Rise and Thrive: Conversations For Greatness with John Merkus
After six weeks of travel, reflection, and wild memories from Canada's lakes to Ibiza dance floors ... I'm back. And this episode is a raw download of the three biggest takeaways I've had from one of the best summers of my life. Not surface-level. Not motivational fluff. These are the principles I'm now doubling down on as we go into the final stretch of the year: 1️⃣ Build success from home – not just in theory, but in your actual weekly structure. 2️⃣ Train every single day – because energy is the foundation of everything: business, fatherhood, leadership, life. 3️⃣ Rebuild connection – not just with loved ones, but with the world around you. It's time to stop hiding and start living. This isn't about nostalgia. It's about mission. It's about how you lead from here. Because what's ahead is four months of execution, and you've got the chance to end the year on fire or let it drift away like every other one. ⚔️ Ready to lead from the front? Join the 28-Day Built to Win programme and start showing up like the man you're meant to be.

In this episode, Steph shares three "early" lessons she's been learning as she reflects on the last few months going through chemotherapy for breast cancer treatment. She touches on themes of courage and taking risks, being open to receiving help, and prioritizing energy. She acknowledges that there are many more lessons to come, but in the spirit of transparency, wants to offer what she's noticing before the process is all done. Rabbi Aharon Zulberg, and the other people he credits, was still scratching his head as to what significant thing South African Jewry might do on behalf of their brethren affected by the war. His synagogue, “The Bais” teamed up with the Jewish National Fund of South Africa to offer respite for hostages released from the terror tunnels of Gaza and in urgent need of relaxation and tranquility. What better place could there be than the beautiful country of South Africa and an initiative was launched uniting Jews, and in the process learning about the inestimable good there is in people. In this episode of Becoming a Bowhunter, Matty sits down with 21-year-old Logan Hawker — a young bowhunter who's quickly earning his stripes through persistence, hard-earned lessons, and a deep respect for the hunt. Logan first got into bowhunting thanks to a mad-keen neighbor, and even managed to pull his rifle-hunting dad over to the dark side (aka stick and string). These days, he's putting in 20–30 km days chasing boars in the mountains. This one's full of laughs, insight, and the kind of grounded stories every hunter can relate to. I first walked a section of the Camino de Santiago in 2006, and it taught me one big lesson—one I've carried with me ever since. At the time, I was in a tough place—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. By the third day of walking, I got horribly lost after missing a way marker. I ended up hiking much farther than I planned. By the time I stopped, I had blistered feet, a painful injury, and a backpack that was literally falling apart.I was hurting. I was angry—at myself, at life, at everything. I seriously considered quitting and catching the next flight home.Highlights:No matter where you are on your journey every step countsWhen was the last time you felt like giving up?The next step might change everything#Resilience #HealingJourney #FaithInTheJourney #CaminoDeSantiago #CaminoJourney #TheWayOfSaintJames #PilgrimageLife #CaminoLessonsWebsite:www.reinogevers.comBooks:Sages, Saints and SinnersDeep Walking for Body Mind and SoulWalking on Edge: A pilgrimage to Santiago
On this mid-week episode, we're switching it up again. This time Bill joins the 'Finance for Physicians' podcast with host Daniel Wrenne, CFP®. In this vulnerable interview, Bill owns up to every late-starter mistake—credit-card splurges, 'free' advisors, and lifestyle creep after a twin-sized home upgrade. Then he slings real-world antidotes: pause-plan-pivot, backward budgeting, downsizing the McMansion, and letting Social Security's ‘inflation-proof annuity' finish the job. Bill's best advice is that physicians should treat money like they treat medicine—learn the language, follow the protocol, and stop ignoring the labs. Now a Financially Independent Physician, we're giving Bill a new name: the (FI)sician!

A combination of economic stagnation, disinvestment and mismanagement of the city's budget brought New York into a fiscal crisis in 1975 — unlike any it had seen up to that point. The result was shuttered schools and firehouses, mountains of garbage on the streets, and cops being laid off by the thousands. But what happened next is perhaps even more important: the city somehow united to pull itself out of financial and cultural ruin. The story is told in a new documentary called “Drop Dead City.” The film's co-directors, Michael Rohatyn and Peter Yost, joined NY1's Errol Louis to discuss the movie and this infamous moment in our city's history. The conversation touched on the film's construction, its soundtrack, and the broader themes of governmental responsibilities and the impact on New Yorkers living through the crisis. They also talked about the co-director's father, Felix Rohatyn, who was a pivotal figure in the financial recovery. Welcome to another behind-the-scenes business update! March has been a rollercoaster, filled with wins, challenges, and valuable lessons learned. We share everything from client losses to new leads, from virtual assistant struggles to content creation breakthroughs. In this episode, we discuss:
It's the end of an era... but not forever! In this final episode of Mike and Kristen (as you know it), we take you along on our adventure through the U.S., sharing highlights from our second time attending SXSW, playing basketball in the rain in LA and how we were greeted with apologies in America. From a terrifying plane ride to an insane Austin bus adventure, we embraced every unexpected twist with open arms. We dive into the biggest lessons we learned—about happiness, human connection, extraterrestrials (!), quantum computing, AI, the future of humanity, and what it means to be Canadian on a global stage. We also reflect on sacred moments, like working through life on Venice Pier and feeling the weight of inspiration from some of our greatest role models and thought leaders such as Michelle Obama, John Fogerty, Brené Brown, and Dr. Laurie Santos. And, as we soak in all these experiences, we've realized that it's time to hit pause. We're stepping back from podcasting—not to say goodbye, but to make space for everything we've learned over the past while and come back with a fresh show! We'll return with incredible guests, creative guidance and Nova Scotia pride. Thank you for being on this journey with us. We can't wait to share what's next! Listen now & stay tuned for our return! Send us a textAbout This EpisodeShawn Nelson, founder and CEO of the Lovesac Company, defines boldness as a state of mind that is as constant as we push ourselves to make it. He maintains his bold edge by deliberately seeking situations that challenge him. When faced with seemingly impossible vertical climbs, in dirt biking and in real life, he applies his philosophy: "If it has been done, it can be done. And why not me?" This same mindset helped him transform a simple beanbag chair into a publicly-traded company now worth billions. What makes Shawn's journey particularly valuable is his transparency about struggle. He openly shares Lovesac's bankruptcy experience, which he calls his "MBA in a box," and shares so many of the other lessons he has learned in his latest book, Let Me Save You 25 Years. Shawn also challenges listeners to be bold enough to be honest about what truly motivates them, rather than pursuing status symbols or others' definitions of success. Tune in for an inspiring episode that will encourage you to make you own bold path forward. About Shawn NelsonShawn D. Nelson is the author of the best-selling book Let Me Save You 25 Years: Mistakes, Miracles, and Lessons from the Lovesac Story. He is the founder and CEO of the Lovesac Company, which designs, manufactures, and sells such furniture as modular couches and bean bag chairs. Nelson holds a BA in Mandarin Chinese from the University of Utah and a Master's degree in Strategic Design and Management from Parsons, The New School for Design in New York City, where he later became an instructor. Are you feeling unprepared for the intense emotions and challenges of raising teens? Do you wonder if other moms are going through the same struggles with friendships, independence, and emerging adulthood? In this special 300th episode of Power Your Parenting: Moms with Teens, Colleen O'Grady invites four close friends—moms who've been through it all—for an honest and heartfelt conversation. Together, they reflect on the middle school and high school years, navigating everything from shifting friendships and social media pressures to the bittersweet milestones of teenage independence. They share raw and relatable stories about the struggles, like dealing with broken hearts, driving privileges, and different parenting values. Beyond the challenges, they celebrate the moments of joy, laughter, and growth that come with watching their teens mature into young adults. Sue Ludwig is a mom of two grown kids, ages 27 and 25. She is the president and founder of the national association of neonatal therapists, an occupational therapist by background, and author of the book, Tiny Humans, Big Lessons. Dr. Shannon D. South, aka the “Joy Doctor”, is an award winning therapist, an amazon best-selling author, and an inspirational speaker. She is an expert in the field of spirituality and healing trauma for over 25 years and the Founder of the Inner Counselor Certification Program. Sara Dickison Taylor is President and Founder of Celebrate Life by Design, LLC. As a certified Executive Leadership Coach, she has helped countless individuals maximize their life potential and turn their wildest dreams into reality. Sherry Duson is a family therapist who has been in practice since 1999. She has specialized in the needs of new mothers, focusing on perinatal mental health, both as a practitioner and the founder of The Center for Postpartum Family Health in Houston, Texas. Here are three powerful takeaways from the episode: First, let go of perfection and trust the process—it's okay if the journey isn't linear; your kids will find their way in their own time. Second, focus on building connection over control—your relationship will matter far more than the pressures of grades, college, or success. Finally, prioritize yourself as a mom—taking care of your emotional well-being models resilience and self-love for your teens. Whether you're in the trenches of middle school drama or navigating the complexities of launching young adults, this episode is a reminder that you're not alone, and there's joy in the journey. https://sueludwig.com/ https://www.instagram.com/sue.ludwig/ https://drshannonsouth.com/ https://www.instagram.com/drshannonsouth/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/sara-dickison-taylor-21681010/ https://www.instagram.com/celebratethebestu/ https://www.sherryduson.com/ https://www.instagram.com/sherryduson/ Learn more about your ad choices. Today I've got something very personal and special to share with you.As you might know, I'm about to unveil a major rebrand of my business, and it's something I've been working on for a looooong time. And the word “rebrand” can feel very corporate and marketing-y and difficult and all of those things that we might get a sacral “nuh-uh” response to.But what I discovered as I went through the process of making my business more — no, not just more, making my business completely aligned with who I am……was how freaking easy it was!Because I was responding to things that came my way when I was in flow, and could see the evidence that the universe is supporting me.
