And so it ended.  Max, Oscar and Lando finished one-two-three on the Abu Dhabi road - but it was Lando who was thus ahead in the final standings of the FIA Drivers' World Championship by the margin of two points. Lando Norris = World Champion. Max was magnificent from the pole; Oscar ran hard Pirellis from the start (rather than the Mediums selected by all the other major runners) and, in so doing, applied some pressure on Max for most of the distance; towards the end, though, on old-ish Hards, Max was super-quick and super-consistent as he consolidated his margin over Oscar. Lando brought his McLaren MCL39-Mercedes home in a crafted third place, responding to potential undercuts from George Russell and Charles Leclerc and scything through the mid-field traffic whenever he was on fresh tyres; and Charles Leclerc finished a dazzling P4 for Ferrari, upstaging the factory Mercedes of George Russell and ultimately setting fastest lap late in the race on used Mediums. Into P6, behind George, came a classy Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin-Mercedes, Esteban Ocon (Haas-Ferrari) and Sir Lewis Hamilton, who had started P16 in his Ferrari. In this video Peter looks back at the key elements of this absorbing, tension-filled finale and reflects - just a little - on the flavour of the season just past. With thanks to Jetcraft, the world's largest buyer and seller of executive jets:https://jetcraft.comTo OEM Exclusive, the passionate suppliers of OEM upgrades for exotic and high-performance vehiclesTo TrackNinja, a lap-timer and data app designed to help users improve their on-track car and driver performance through analysis and an innovative Data Garage. 2025 F1 Qatar GP - full analysis with Peter Windsor

Against all odds - against all logic - Max Verstappen and Red Bull-Honda decisively and clinically won the Qatar GP on Sunday, with McLaren-Mercedes finishing only P2-P4, sandwiching the Williams-Mercedes of Carlos Sainz. In what will be remembered as the most inexplicable strategy call of the 2025 season, both McLaren drivers were told to stay out when a Safety Car was deployed on lap seven. Thus went their chance of a "free" tyre change in a race in which the use of each set of Pirellis was uniquely limited to 25 laps. With the rest of the field switching tyres under the SC conditions, McLaren now faced a two-stop race against what had now effectively become a one-stop race for their opposition.  And it was Max Verstappen who capitalised on that error - instantly and without blinking.  He was quick on his second set of mediums - and he was McLaren-fast on his set of hard tyres, often surpassing Piastri's times in the first two sectors. His was a titanic win at a crucial point of the championship, for Lando Norris now goes to Abu Dhabi, the season's finale, with only a 12-point lead over Verstappen and a 16-point margin over his team-mate. In this video, Peter Windsor looks back at the key elements of an extraordinary night. Sit back to enjoy another Max Verstappen demonstration of how it should be done - this time with a Red Bull that was virtually undriveable on Friday, so bad was its bouncing.  Max struggled through to P4 in the Sprint but, after changes made to the car before qualifying, recovered to start the main race P3. That became P2 after the first corner and then P1 when the McLaren-Mercedes made their first stop for tyres.  And P1 - despite the quality of the McLaren MCL39s - became the win. Simple. Or was it? We begin this video with a chat with Mark Slade, the race engineer who won races and world titles at McLaren and Mercedes.  After that, it's Peter taking your questions and comments about subjects as far afield as word-portraits of Stirling Moss, Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart; the sort of speech Zak Brown will deliver if McLaren fail to win the Drivers' title; and prospects for Abu Dhabi this Sunday. There is much to consider after Austin - so there are views aplenty on the Big One:  can the brilliant Max Verstappen achieve the almost-impossible and win the 2025 world title? Following his clean sweep in Texas, that question is more than hypothetical.  Also, how is Zak's McLaren Masterplan panning-out? And, following their aggressive showing in Texas, can Ferrari be truly competitive in the thin air of Mexico this weekend? As a special bonus, this livestream also includes an in-depth chat with Mark Slade, the title-winning F1 Race Engineer. On the back of his two poles and Sprint race win, Red Bull-Honda's Max Verstappen led the US GP from start to finish, beating Lando Norris (McLaren-Mercedes) by eight seconds. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finished an excellent P3 after choosing to start the race on soft-compound Pirellis; his team-mate, Sir Lewis Hamilton, finished fourth; and a lackluster Oscar Piastri took P5 in the other McLaren-Mercedes, ahead of George Russell (factory Mercedes), Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull-Honda), Nico Hulkenberg (Sauber-Ferrari), Oliver Bearman (Haas-Ferrari) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin-Mercedes). In this video Peter details the brilliance of Verstappen's performance; explains why, in his opinion, McLaren under-performed; and highlights the sheer quality of Charles Leclerc's race to P3. Also included in this podcast is a special interview with Mark Slade, the championship-winning race engineer at McLaren, Renault and Mercedes. It was George Russell and Mercedes all the way in Singapore - thanks to the brilliance of that combination around the Marina Bay circuit  and also to a decision by Red Bull to start Max Verstappen on soft Pirelli tires. In trouble with tyre degradation long before the medium-compound runners around him were due to stop, Verstappen thereafter spent the bulk of the race in stunning defense on his older, hard-compound Pirellis. He finished a diamond-hard P2, though, ahead of the two McLaren drivers and Russell's young team-mate, Kimi Antonelli. There was controversy at McLaren as, first, Lando Norris collided with both Verstappen and the other McLaren driver, Oscar Piastri, at the first corner sequence and then, later, when Norris was asked to make a decision about when Piastri should stop to switch from medium tires to hard. The night race could be close, particularly if Ferrari keep it on the straight and narrow. For a while out there it looked as though Charles Leclerc and Ferrari would spoil the day of McLaren-Mercedes. As the wind blew from the west, rather than the east, Leclerc had taken the pole in the closing seconds of Q3.  And, from the start, he appeared to be in control: Oscar Piastri sat in his mirrors but Lando Norris fell back in the wake of George Russell's Mercedes.  Then, almost inevitably, it went wrong: Charles stopped early for his second set of Hard Pirellis and was thereafter never in the hunt: with floor damage, his Ferrari was over a second-a-lap off the pace.  It then became a straight fight between the two McLaren drivers, with Zak Brown allowing them to race to the finish. Piastri, on a two-stop strategy, had the performance advantage - but Norris, on a one-stopper, had the advantage of track position.  In this podcast, Peter looks back at the key elements not only of that race to the chequered flag but also of the weekend as a whole - at the amazing pole of Charles Leclerc, the dismal pace of Red Bull and the wretched weekend of Sir Lewis Hamilton. It rained all right - exactly at the time of the scheduled start of the Belgian GP.  This being 2025 F1, however, we didn't get a wet race.  Instead, the drivers sat around for 75 minutes or so before starting behind a Safety Car on a rapidly-drying track.  The pole of McLaren's Lando Norris then disappeared in the time it took for his team-mate, Oscar Piastri, to tow past Lando on the main straight on the first racing lap with an 11kph speed advantage - and thereafter it was Oscar all the way, helped by a slow pit stop for Lando plus two time-consuming Lando errors on hard-compound Pirelli slicks. Charles Leclerc finished a valiant third in his low-downforce Ferrari; Max Verstappen's wet rear wing settings left him a sitting duck on the dry track and a frustrated P4; George Russell finished fifth for Mercedes; and Alex Albon drove beautifully for Williams-Mercedes to hold off Sir Lewis Hamilton's Ferrari for P6-P7. Peter in this podcast looks back at the three days in Spa - at the Sprint pole for Oscar; at the Sprint win for Max; and then the Qualifying pole of Lando. There's lots of detail, too, about the upgrades to the cars as we go into the first part of a double-header before the August break. Lando Norris began his race weekend in Austria with headset on, watching Alexander Dunne show his talent in FP1.  He then quickly made up for lost time, setting the pace in FP2, taking the pole on Saturday and winning the race on Sunday.  Of course, as Peter Windsor describes in this podcast, it was not as simple as that: his team-mate at McLaren-Mercedes, Oscar Piastri, applied pressure throughout the race; and Lando - like many other drivers - was obliged for most of the distance  to nurse aero damage on the car. McLaren, though, finished one-two again, with Ferrari crossing the line P3/P4 (with Charles Leclerc ahead of Sir Lewis Hamilton). George Russell was P5 for Mercedes but Red Bull-Honda's Max Verstappen, who qualified only seventh, was eliminated on the first lap when he was t-boned by the Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli. Support the showVisit: https://youtube.com/peterwindsor for F1 videos past, present and future

They were drawn into the closing laps with different teams, in different cars, via different strategies. With 15 laps to run, though, it was never closer: only five seconds covered George Russell (Mercedes),  Max Verstappen (Red Bull-Honda) and Kimi Antonelli in the other Mercedes. Then came the two McLaren-Mercedes of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.  Nothing seemed certain...until... In this podcast, Peter Windsor talks about the build-up to the finale and about what happened in the closing minutes of the Pirelli-sponsored Canadian GP on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Peter's well fired-up in this episode - partly because Cameron, nice guy that he is, likes to wind up PW on the Mondays after a GP (in this case Canada) and partly because, for different reasons, and by different factions, the characters of two of F1's truest people - Lando Norris and Derek Warwick - have been called into question. Peter in this episode vehemently defends both of them. This podcast, in other words, features lots of McLaren and Red Bull chat - plus some Mercedes, Ferrari and Aston Martin observations for good measure.  A decaf, while listening, will suffice.
