Go to BenandTravis.com/books for more information. Challenge Youth Conference (www.cyconline.com) weekend is back again. For over 25 years this conference has taken place in the Smoky Mountains. For many years now it has been in the LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge and there have been close to 14,000 attendees some years. Our congregation will have over 40 in attendance this weekend and other congregations will have 100. Travis and I get to do some crazy activities and videos to get the event started and then we also participate in S.W.A.T. (Skits With A Truth) team. Most people who have attended, whether adults or teenagers, have found the weekend to be encouraging in their faith and they often leaved challenged to live a bold life for Christ. The speakers this year include Chris Miller, Lonnie Jones, Brad Montague, Craig Evans, and David Shannon. All men who will challenge listeners to live to a higher standard. The theme this year is Look Up! An easily relatable theme when in the smokies mountains of East Tennessee. Show NotesWe start from an informative update on the Flat Earth movement. Their model for the earth usually includes a wall of ice round the rim – Anarctica, that implies the 24 hour sunshine in the Anarctica summer is impossible and their claims often include that it does not occur. So what happens when a group of prominent Flat Earth advocates are paid to visit Anarctica during its summer? That happened this month. For the rest of the show we discuss another story doing the rounds. It is prompted by the Museum of the Bible putting on display a mosaic from Israel which was uncovered in 2005 and was discussed back then. It dates to around 230AD and includes the phrase “God Jesus Christ” in one of its inscriptions. We deal with the context both in terms of the developing doctrine of the Trinity and in terms of apologists jumping on the latest ‘thing'. Hank and Dr. Evans discuss the mistake of taking the Bible for granted, P45—the most ancient collection of all four Gospels, if the late dating of many New Testament biblical scholars is arbitrary or biased, the eyewitness testimony of biblical authors, and viewing the life of Christ using extra-biblical historical accounts.
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (09/26/23), we pick up where we ended on our previous broadcast and present more of an episode of the Hank Unplugged podcast. Hank is talking with Dr. Craig Evans, Distinguished Professor of Christian Origins at Houston Christian University and a featured scholar in the documentary film, Fragments of Truth: Ancient Documents, New Discoveries. Hank and Dr. Evans discuss how Jesus taught his disciples to communicate, the two sides of Bart Ehrman, how long the original manuscripts of the Bible were kept in circulation, the difference between papyrus and parchment and how they were used for biblical manuscripts, and the significance of the early fragments of the New Testament such as P52 (an early fragment from the Gospel of John).
On today's Bible Answer Man broadcast (09/25/23), we present an episode of the Hank Unplugged podcast. Hank's guest is Dr. Craig Evans, Distinguished Professor of Christian Origins at Houston Christian University and a featured scholar in the documentary film, Fragments of Truth: Ancient Documents, New Discoveries. Hank and Dr. Evans discuss if we can trust the Bible, how archeology supports the authenticity of biblical narratives, how Misquoting Jesus inspired Dr. Evans to correct Bart Ehrman's misrepresentations of biblical manuscripts, if the claim by Bart Ehrman that the Bible has been altered is true, and the problem of historical and biblical illiteracy.

New Testament scholars treat John's gospel as largely a-historical when it comes to things Jesus said and did. This is even true of some evangelical scholars. For example, Craig Evans has publicly said that Jesus just sounds too different from how he talks in the synoptics, so John more or less paints an interpretive portrait of Jesus, making up things that Jesus never literally said in the narrative contexts we read about, but still vaguely captures some essence of what the historical Jesus taught. But how solid of a conclusion is this view? In this episode, Dr. Lydia McGrew offers a rebuttal. In today's lesson, we will delve into the Roman Imperial Cult and the officially sanctioned worship of Caesar Augustus. As the message of the Kingdom of God, centered around Jesus as Lord, spreads throughout the Roman Empire, it encounters a direct clash with the Roman establishment, where Caesar is regarded as the supreme authority. Both Jesus and the writers of the New Testament possess a keen awareness of the imperial propaganda machinery. They skillfully employ the terminology associated with the imperial cult to directly challenge the assertions made by Caesar. Come and join us on a journey to ancient Priene, where we will investigate an inscription dating back to 9 BC. This inscription portrays Augustus as the "savior" and "god," while also depicting his birth as the "good news for the world." --------------------- Tower of Babel: https://youtu.be/8B8JjGFEvgs Support Fig Tree Ministries: https://donorbox.org/support-figtree-ministries Class Handout: https://www.figtreeteaching.com/faith-lessons/good-news-of-caesar-augustus#/ www.figtreeteaching.com YouTube: https://youtu.be/dv2d0lKtKQU Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7mh4v8e7FDwOoPhQd7bz7Y References: Priene Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calendar_Inscription_of_Priene#:~:text=The%20Priene%20Calendar%20Inscription%20(IK,the%20edict%20from%209%20BC. The Cale Clarke Show - Today's issues from a Catholic perspective.
Cale is joined by famed Bible Scholar Dr. Craig Evans to talk about the new Gospel of Matthew discovery that's gone viral. Plus: an ex-Catholic priest doubts Jesus' disciples remembered anything.
Bart Ehrman claims that the Gospels are anonymous because the names attached to them are too convenient and were added a century later, and because the disciples of Jesus were too illiterate to write such exquisite Greek texts. Has Dr. Ehrman overstated the case? This episode is in response to the comments that critical New Testament scholar Bart Ehrman has made in writing and to interviewers, such as in the video highlighted in our episode: Bart Ehrman on the Bible's Authors ( https://youtu.be/pDfYA21lDic ). Also mentioned in this episode was Simon Gathercole's article "The Alleged Anonymity of the Canonical Gospels" in The Journal of Theological Studies (2018), Craig Evans' Jesus and the Manuscripts (Hendrickson Academic, 2020), and Brant Pitre's The Case for Jesus (Image: 2016).
