Two senators are calling for a racism inquiry in parliament; A coronial inquiry into domestic violence in the Northern Territory hands out 35 recommendations; And in sports, Max Verstappen wins a fourth consecutive F1 World Championship.
Max Verstappen has won this year's Formula One motor racing world championship. Motorsport expert Bob McMurray spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
Max Verstappen likely sealed his fourth F1 World Championship with a storming drive from 17th on the grid to win a wet Brazilian Grand Prix. Lando Norris still has a mathematical chance, but that is it. Alpine also set up a $50m payday with dual podiums, elevating it a few spots on the constructors' battle. MotoGP has also experienced some weather events, with the deadly floods around Valencia forcing the final rounds of the series to find a new home. Jorge Martin is looking at his first MotoGP title, aided by a fall from Francesco Bagnaia, but the fight is alive after one of the greatest races in history. Then there's NASCAR, with the Championship 4 decided for both the Cup Series and Xfinity Cup, with punches thrown at the end of the Xfinity race at Martinsville, and the promise of more fireworks this weekend in Phoenix as scores look to get settled in the final race of 2024. Plenty is going on, so join Andrew Clarke, Bruce WIlliams and Paul Gover on this week's Auto Action RevLimiter podcast. Jennie Gow is joined by former F1 driver, Jolyon Palmer, and the BBC's F1 correspondent, Andrew Benson, to look ahead to the Mexico City Grand Prix. The team discuss Lando Norris' controversial penalty last time out in Austin, hear from both Norris and Max Verstappen, plus discuss whether the title battle is still on with just five rounds remaining of the 2024 F1 World Championship
Round 17 of the 2024 F1 World Championship had the sport head back to the streets of Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. And despite Charles Leclerc's early breakaway, it was Oscar Piastri who stunned the Monegasque driver with a brilliant pass into Turn 1 and then held off Leclerc's attacks to take his second career victory. Ben Hunt and Filip Cleeren join Bryn Lucas on this edition of the Autosport Podcast to discuss the epic battle for the win and the difficulty that Piastri's victory places on McLaren's driver management after their soft commitment to team orders for the rest of the season. Is it too quick for a U-turn now that Piastri's just 32 points behind Lando Norris in the standings? There's also a deep dive into the penultimate lap crash between Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz and whether either driver could have done more to avoid the incident, the strong rookie drives of Franco Colapinto and Ollie Bearman, and how Red Bull's new floor upgrade will fair with their Singapore struggles of 2023 still fresh in the memory as F1 heads back there this weekend. The race weekend brought a surprise debutant from the Ferrari Driver Academy in Oliver Bearman as Carlos Sainz was diagnosed and treated for appendicitis. Max Verstappen won the Australian Grand Prix for the first time to extend his F1 World Championship lead to 15 points. But it wasn't as straightforward as many of his previous victories. The Dutchman overcame battles with Mercedes, safety cars and three red flags. Tom Clarkson and Damon Hill are joined by Australia's Network 10 TV team to dissect all the drama from an action-packed race in Melbourne. After a disappointing Saturday, Sergio Perez produced a monster drive from the pitlane to come fifth and stay in touch with his teammate in the driver standings. Alfa Romeo's Zhou Guanyu shares his delight at scoring points for the first time this season after finishing ninth. Oscar Piastri's manager Mark Webber and McLaren CEO Zak Brown reflect on a memorable home race for Oscar, who scored his first ever points in Formula 1. There were mixed fortunes for Mercedes, with George Russell suffering a power unit failure and an elated Lewis Hamilton holding off Fernando Alonso to claim second place. Will that be the springboard for a turnaround in the team's season? And it was another bad day at the office for Ferrari. Charles LecLerc went into the gravel on turn one for his second DNF of the season and Carlos Sainz failed to score points after receiving a 5-second penalty for spinning Alonso in a chaotic restart at the end of the race. The paddock for the opening round of the 2023 F1 World Championship may smell slightly of beef given the last week of motorsport. After a four-week summer break, Formula 1 engines finally roared again at last weekend's Belgian Grand Prix, with Max Verstappen taking a supremely commanding win to further tighten his grip on the 2022 F1 World Championship. In the lead-up to the Spa event, though, F1 news was dominated by the long-awaited announcement that Audi would be joining the sport in 2026 as a power unit supplier.Joining Michael Butterworth to discuss the key issues from the Belgian Grand Prix weekend is Dieter Rencken, Editorial Director of RacingNews365.While Audi have finally committed to F1, a similar announcement has not yet been forthcoming from Porsche, who have been heavily linked with Red Bull. What's behind this delay? And with Honda's partnership with Red Bull now having yielded championship success, is the Japanese firm looking to row back on its earlier decision to leave F1, and instead continue with the drinks-backed squad?Though it appeared likely to drop off the F1 calendar, Spa has been granted a reprieve for 2023 after a deal to bring back the South African Grand Prix failed to materialise. What scuppered the chance of a race at Kyalami? And after his dominant win at Spa, will Verstappen break Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel's record of 13 wins in a single season?

Tonight, the Extra Mile crew step back to discuss how the conflict in Ukraine could have massive implications for the F1 World Championship.
Welcome to episode 8 of the Lovecars on the Grid podcast! Tiff Needell and Paul Woodman are back with another roundup of motorsport events from the past week! One of our presenters is in a slightly different setting this week, as Tiff reports from a sunny Daytona Beach, Florida, with the motorsport passion team! Has Tiff picked the best time to leave the UK weather? We kick off with the breaking news from this week! The FIA have finally come to their senses, and following the events at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Race Director Michael Masi has gone! Finally, the governing body of Formula 1 admitted a mistake, but this won't change the result between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen for the F1 World Championship! With Masi out, the FIA have announced that not one, but two directors will replace him! The new race directors will be Eduardo Freitas, who held the same role in the World Endurance Championship (WEC), and Niels Wittich, who was the race director in the German Touring car series, DTM. With new race directors taking turns to do each race in the 2022 season, who will be the top 3 drivers in this year's season? We have no cars, engine developments and even new drivers, too! It's a shame we can't see what happens in testing this week! It would be rude not to talk about the Daytona 500 with NASCAR. There are a few new, younger drivers driving these cars around the oval at 200MPH. There were plenty of crashes in the season opener, including some with the Infinity Series. In the main race, victory was taken by Rookie Austin Cindric, who beat Bubba Wallace in his Ford, after being pushed by team mate Ryan Blaney. Extreme E was back in Saudi Arabia, at the desert e-prix. The final race resulted in a red flag after World Rallycross star, Tanner Foust crashed his McLaren into the back of a competitor, with not being able to see with the dust. The race was won by X11, Nico Rosberg's team. Over in the Middle East, the Formula 4 UAE and Regional European Formulas concluded, with a win for Charlie Wurz, with British driver, Aiden Neate finishing the Championship in 3rd place. In the Regional European Formula, brother of Ferrari Formula 1 driver, Arthur LeClerc Won the championship there. Coming up, we have so many exciting events to look forward to, with F1 testing, World Rally Championship in Sweden, Indycar in St. Petersburg and NASCAR in Fontana, California!

Here she is, the long-awaited episode with the one and only Formula 1 expert and host Yannik. Fortunately our Super Max, Max Verstappen is the winner of the 2021 F1 World Championship. He really did it. And of course, we are still on schedule hehe (Idk either how!?). This year's final race to decide the 2021 F1 World Championship didn't disappoint. And of course it had a healthy dose of controversy but not for the reasons you may have expected. First we take a step back to discuss Saudi Arabia Grand Prix then on to Abu Dhabi. Tim dislikes the red flag rule in Formula 1 - so do most others. Did Lewis gain an advantage by straight lining turn 6 when Max attempted a pass? Not sure it matters given the dominance of the Mercedes. Was Perez playing a good teammate or dirty? Should the race have been red flagged or was the use of the safety car the right call? In late 1999 the combination of Jordan and Heinz-Harald Frentzen was at the peak of its powers, and it so nearly pulled off a world championship upset against the might of McLaren and Ferrari. Glenn Freeman is joined by Matt Beer and Edd Straw to revisit the final few races of the season to work out how Jordan found itself in an unlikely title fight. They assess how good the Jordan 199 really was given only one driver was doing anything with it (sorry Damon!), the fragilities that were costing McLaren and Mika Hakkinen, why Eddie Irvine's form was so inconsistent following his incredible spell in the summer after Michael Schumacher broke his leg, Jordan and McLaren's opposing theories on Hakkinen's memorable Monza blunder, the lap of Frentzen's life in qualifying at the Nurburgring, how the same problem that struck Frentzen's car while he was leading that race also resulted in Pedro Diniz's terrifying roll-hoop-busting crash at the start - and a rare explanation of the trick system that was behind that mysterious glitch! We also look at why the fizz went out of Jordan's season after that Nurburgring heartbreak, and why it would never scale those heights again.HAVE YOUR SAY: Get your questions in for our series finale to @wearetherace on social media, using the #BringBackV10s to ask us anything about F1 from 1989-2005!
How to rid the oceans of plastic? Boyan Slat strives for the solution! He's the founder and CEO of "The Ocean Cleanup" – aiming to clean up 90% of ocean plastic pollution. At the age of 25, he leads a company with about 100 employees. I am really impressed by Boyan's story, his leadership and for tackling one of our major environmental issues, which many say is unsolvable. We met in Davos at the World Economic Forum. In my podcast Boyan shared his passion for environmental engineering and his solution on how to solve our environmental issues and the ocean plastic pollution. Their beta version recently proved successful in the great pacific garbage patch. The mission was completed and first plastic has arrived on shore. The Ocean Cleanup also aims to solve the cause of the problem – that's why "The Interceptor" was developed catching plastic pollution in rivers across the world. In September 2020 they will launch the first product made out of the collected plastic – check it out here: https://bit.ly/2OeHjsk Check out the video version of Beyond Victory here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7lL_M1cPjU&t=58s Follow me online: Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/nicorosberg Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/nico_rosberg Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/nicorosberg Website: http://www.nicorosberg.com

CRACKING DOWN ON FOOTBALL The civil unrest and government crackdowns in Nicaragua, which led to the cancellation of the CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship in the country is continuing to affect the sport in Nicaragua. In a country where almost 30 per cent of girls are pregnant before the age of 18, and around half never go to secondary school, Soccer Without borders helped to break certain norms in a male-dominated society. But that work has been severely curtailed. RED STAR RISING Red Star Belgrade were the last club to win football's European Cup when it was a knockout competition. But until this season, they'd not qualified for the Champions League. We explore the fall and rise again of Serbia's most famous football club, ahead of their first group stage match at home to Napoli on Tuesday. SKATEBOARDING TO SAFETY Skateboarding will make its Olympic debut in Tokyo in two years time. And with the support of one of South Africa's top competitors, Jean-Marc Johannes, the sport is helping keep Cape Town youngsters away from drugs and gangs in the City's townships. GRAND PRIX, BUT NO DRIVER As Singapore hosts the latest round of the F1 World Championship this weekend, can the country produce its own F1 driver? We speak to the young karting star, who may be that driver, and his mother, after the family re-located to Italy to chase the dream. SNOOKER'S NEW ERA? When it comes to snooker the male stars of the game can earn up two million dollars in prize money in a good year. The Chinese players Ding Junhui and Marco Fu can add considerably more from endorsements. But the women's game is still amateur. With government backing and engaging personality, Hong Kong's women's world number one, Ng On Yee could be the player to help change that. #292 Nico, Lewis and the 2016 F1 World Championship. Who will win it, and who deserves to win it? Plus what’s occurring elsewhere on the grid. Sniff Petrol on Ron Dennis speak, Verstappen and the new Mercedes baby.
Cheeka, Phill and Terry reflect on round two of the 2016 F1 World Championship. It’s a dictatorship with a very dubious human rights record, but enough about FOM - let’s instead look at the Bahrain Grand Prix. More shonky qualifying! First corner collisions! Sand! Yay!
