What a race!  Kimi Antonelli and George Russell fought for the lead until lap 31, when George's Mercedes ground to a halt with a battery issue. Kimi then cruised to his fourth successive victory, leaving the P2 spotlight on Sir Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) and Max Verstappen (Red Bull-RBPT-Ford); Sir Lewis won that battle. The McLaren-Mercedes? After qualifying on row two, they were out of it virtually from the start when the team opted to start on Pirelli intermediates on a dry track. Lando Norris led a token opening lap but that was all. Former Renault driver and F1TV commentator, Jolyon Palmer, and Sky Sports F1 presenter, Natalie Pinkham, join Tom Clarkson to discuss all the big talking points ahead of this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix. Should Lando Norris be worried about the 10-point gap to championship leader Oscar Piastri? Will their rivalry start to heat up in the coming races? Jolyon explains where Oscar has the edge over Lando in qualifying and why that seemingly small lead in the standings is something the Australian can use to his advantage now.  After causing a collision with George Russell at the Spanish Grand Prix, Max Verstappen is now just one penalty point away from an automatic race ban. Will the four-time World Champion change his approach in Montreal, or will he bounce back to secure what would be a fourth straight win at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve?  Also on the agenda: why does Jolyon think Canada will be Mercedes' best race of the year so far? Will Lewis Hamilton find ‘redemption' at one of his most successful tracks? It's almost time for Formula 1 to head back across the Atlantic for Round 9 of the 2024 World Championship as the sport returns to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for this weekend's Canadian Grand Prix. Jon Noble and Jake Boxall-Legge join Bryn Lucas on the Autosport Podcast to break down all the news heading into the weekend, including the big announcement of Esteban Ocon parting ways with the Alpine F1 team at the end of the 2024 season. Was his clash with teammate Pierre Gasly at Monaco a factor in his decision? Where will Ocon go next? And who could Alpine bring in to replace their veteran driver? Also on the show, with strong reports that Sergio Perez and Yuki Tsunoda will be retained by Red Bull in their respective teams, the trio debate whether their teams are doing the right thing in retaining them, as well as discuss the future of Daniel Ricciardo and ponder how secure his seat is going forward. There's also a full preview of the Canadian GP, including whether Montreal's bumps will cause more problems for Red Bull after their difficult weekend in Monaco, whether McLaren and Ferrari can keep the pressure on the reigning Champions, and the potential risk of the unpredictable local weather disrupting the running order. Tom Clarkson is joined by 1996 World Champion Damon Hill for F1 Nation's preview of the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix. But before talking all things Canada, Tom gets the inside story on the news that Esteban Ocon and Alpine will part ways at the end of this season. Fred Ferret, F1 reporter at French newspaper L'Equipe, tells us why they've made this decision, what's next for both parties, and how this could impact the wider driver market. On the agenda ahead of Montreal: with three different winners in the last three races, do we have a title fight on our hands between Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren this year? Will the Bull's Monaco weaknesses be exposed again in Montreal? Is Oscar Piastri primed for his first Grand Prix victory? Also, after Alex Albon secured Williams' first points of the season in Monte Carlo, their chief engineer Dave Robson joins the pod to chat about the team's progress, what challenges the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve provides, and how they're trying to develop Logan Sargeant. The summer season is in full swing with round 9 of the 2023 Formula 1 season at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in the Canadian GP. Ricardo and Blake return to discuss the race, which saw most of its excitement take place in a very wet qualifying session. Despite the tire drama of qualifying, the starting order wasn't too far out of the norm, especially after a penalty knocked Hass' Kevin Magnussen off the front row. There was plenty more to discuss after this race, from a rebounding Aston Martin team, a Mercedes team that is finally understanding its car, and a worrying trend continuing for Sergio Perez. We talk about all this and more in the full episode below.
