Max Verstappen delivered a precise and commanding victory at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to take the top step of the podium for the 2024 F1 Canadian Grand Prix, despite having to negotiate difficult changeable conditions as Montreal had multiple showers over the course of the race.   Joining Bryn Lucas on the Autosport Podcast is Jake Boxall-Legge from the track, and US Editor Charles Bradley as the trio discuss Max's calm and measured brilliance, but also ponder whether a gamble from McLaren's Lando Norris running one extra lap on a drying track with an intermediate tyre, may have cost them a shot at the victory.   There's also a discussion on the recent strugglers in the Red Bull umbrella, with Sergio Perez had a horrible race, crashing from the rear of the field after failing to make it out of Q1 in qualifying for the second weekend in a row, and Daniel Ricciardo scoring points in a Grand Prix for the first time this season.  And finally, there's discussions about Ferrari and their horrible weekend as both cars failed to finish, and more drama at Alpine where despite a double points finish, team orders marred the occasion with Esteban Ocon venting his frustration to the media.   Learn more about your ad choices. Round 9 of the Formula One World Championship took us to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the Canadian Grand Prix, arguably the most entertaining race weekend we've had all season, from a Mercedes on pole and the second ever dead heat in qualifying, to all the different strategies posed by the rain and a multi team challenge for the win. It wasn't to be for George Russell or Lando Norris however, with multiple safety cars playing into Verstappen's favor, seeing him cross the line to take his 60th victory in Formula One. Elsewhere around the paddock, Yuki Tsunoda extended his deal with VCARB for a further year, Perez somehow earned a multiyear extension, and a deep dive into the newly released images and information about the 2026 regulations. Lights out for the Spanish GP is two weeks out, but the fabled 24hr of Le Mans is here to give us a full day of racing this coming weekend and we can't wait to share our thoughts with you next time out On The Gravel.

Formula 1 heads to the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve for the Canadian Grand Prix. Sean Parker and Mary-Anne Wakefield kick off the episode by discussing the recent developments in the driver market on the back of news from Red Bull and Alpine. This weekend's race sees Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull resume battle at the apex of the grid. Charles Leclerc, buoyed by his victory in Monaco a fortnight ago, is one of the favourites in Montreal but faces competition from a hungry Max Verstappen and the rapid McLaren duo. Kevin Magnussen is two points away from having his Super Licence suspended and a one-race ban and needs to stay out of trouble this weekend.

The summer season is in full swing with round 9 of the 2023 Formula 1 season at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in the Canadian GP. De organisatie voor de Grand Prix van Canada heeft er een uitdaging bij. Er woeden op dit moment hevige bosbranden in de provincie Quebec, waar ook de stad Montréal en Circuit Gilles Villeneuve toebehoren. Het vuur zou twaalf keer sneller om zich heen slaan dan normaal in dit seizoen. Sportmarketeer Chris Woerts verwacht dat Ziggo een serieuze poging zal gaan doen om de Formule 1-uitzendrechten vanaf 2025 weer naar de zender te halen. Volgens Woerts heeft Viaplay met de aanschaf van de rechten 'gegokt en verloren' en staat Ziggo met smart te wachten om alles weer in ere te herstellen.

Formula 1 returns to Canada for the first Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve since 2019 after Covid-19 enforced travel restrictions that prevented the race from taking place. The top tier of motorsport racing has changed considerably since Lewis Hamilton finished ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc two years ago with new regulations and a pause of Mercedes dominance. Red Bull and Ferrari have been the dominant teams this season, with reigning world champion Max Verstappen scoring five victories to lead the drivers' championship from his teammate Sergio Perez. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc chalked up two wins and has been in scintillating form in qualifying, starting on pole for the last four races. However, Ferrari have recently been crippled by reliability issues and bad strategy calls. The drivers will battle on a third street circuit in a row, with the fast, flowing track requiring the cars to be at full throttle for the majority of the lap.  A focus on higher top speed and less on cornering grip will be the dominant set up across the paddock. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is dominated by heavy braking chicanes. It's vital for the drivers to be precise when accelerating out of those areas on the track and not lose traction which costs valuable milliseconds. We're likely to see teams who performed well last weekend in Baku replicate that form in Montreal. Red Bull start as favourites and it'll be interesting to see which driver has the superior pace on race day as that'll determine who the team decides to back strategy wise. Leclerc has been superb in qualifying this season and we still back him to start on the front row. Ferrari will hope they are not plagued by any issues over the weekend.  One statistic that stands out is that pole position has been decided by less than a tenth of a second at four of the last seven Canadian Grands Prix. Finally, the final T13 also known as the 'Wall of Champions' is a chicane that bleeds into the final straight and has caught many drivers out over the years. Ist der Ferrari-Motor zu weit aufgedreht oder war das Bouncing verantwortlich? So oder so steht fest, dass die Ergebnisse wieder in eine bessere Richtung gelenkt werden müssen. Die Moral lässt bei den Italienern gerne mal nach und das spielt Red Bull natürlich voll in die Karten. Die drehen richtig auf und haben mit Max Verstappen wieder eine absolute Maschine im Cockpit gehabt. Kein Fehler, toller Start und Nervenstärke par excellence. Auch Sergio Perez konnte ihn diesmal nicht schlagen. Schlägt Leistung Moral? Es rappelt in der Kiste Mercedes und das Porpoising - eine niemals endende Geschichte. An diesem Wochenende wurden sowohl George Russell als auch Lewis Hamilton wieder ordentlich durchgerüttelt. Besonders Hamilton klagte über Rückenschmerzen und hatte beim Aussteigen sichtlich Probleme. Ganz offensichtlich ist es auch so, dass sich Hamilton voll in den Dienst des Teams stellt. Während George Russell gute Ergebnisse einfährt, testet Hamilton munter Teile, Setups und steckt ordentlich ein. Eigentlich ein tolles Beispiel für einen Teamplayer, wenn man sich nicht die Frage stellen müsste, ob er das freiwillig tut oder vom Team dazu angeordnet wird? Die Geschichte, wenn er 2023 dann nicht nur den jungen Russell auf den Weg zu seinem achten Titel schlagen würde, könnte entschädigen. Steiner im Kreuzverhör - Nimmervoll und Scheuren im Zwiegespräch Es war DAS Aufregerthema in der deutschen Formel-1-Szene am Sonntag. Peter Hardenacke nahm Haas-Teamchef Günther Steiner in die Mangel und musste sich dafür ordentlich was anhören. Es wurde ein heißer Tanz am Mikrofon, bei dem Hardenacke große Hartnäckigkeit unter Beweis gestellt hat und Steiner eher dünnhäutig auf die Kritikpunkte des Reporters reagieren konnte. Auf den sozialen Netzwerken hat sich die Meinung zu diesem Gespräch eher gespalten, auch bei uns. Während Christian Nimmervoll voll des Lobes für das Interview und die Führung von Peter Hardenacke war, so ist es Kevin Scheuren, der nicht wirklich zufrieden mit der Berichterstattung des Bezahlsenders war. Hej och trevlig tisdag. Det är Race Week igen, F1 har åkt över "the pond" till Montreal och Kanadas Grand Prix. Än så länge ganska tyst nyhetsvecka inför racet, och inga större uppdateringar från någon förutom Williams som kämpar för att ta igen resten av fältet. Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve är en bana som borde passa Ferraris kraftpaket till bil lite bättre, så förhoppningsvis kan vi få lite kamp om topp-platserna med Mercedes.
