March 7, 2025 - Author Michael Sawyer joined Byers & Co to talk about his new book, Sir Lewis, detailing the career of F1 driver Lewis Hamilton. Listen to the podcast now!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Wednesday's guest was Professor Michael E. Sawyer. Mr. Sawyer is the author of the recently published book “Sir Lewis”. The title refers to the top Formula One race driver of all time, Lewis Hamilton. The book captures the life of Hamilton from modest beginnings to becoming one of the richest and most recognized athletes in the world.
Re-live Sir Lewis Hamilton's titanic win at Silverstone via Peter Windsor's full analysis. Peter pin-pointed the breathtaking grace of Lewis's driving as early as Saturday, when Lewis's prolonged use of eighth gear into Becketts was in sharp contrast to that of his team-mate, George Russell, who was using seventh at exactly the same place. George led the race from the pole but Lewis was a constant presence. When the early rain fell, it was Lewis who took the lead; and when McLaren's Lando Norris was delayed in the pits during the final round of tyre changes it was Lewis who led the race on the softest of the Pirelli tyres. In the wake of the Mercedes, it was impossible for Lando to conserve his tyres. Out in front, in clear air, it was Sir Lewis's race to lose. Red Bull's Max Verstappen, on hard Pirellis, began to close...but it was Sir Lewis who won the day - won a glorious and record-breaking ninth British GP at Silverstone. With thanks to Jetcraft, the world's largest buyer and seller of executive jets:https://jetcraft.comTo OEM Exclusive, the passionate suppliers of OEM upgrades for exotic and high-performance vehiclesAnd to TrackNinja, a lap-timer and data app designed to help users improve their on-track car and driver performance through analysis and an innovative Data Garage. Get in there, Lewis! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

After a half year hiatus we are back (for real this time.) Langa and Naz sat down to discuss the Monaco Grand Prix and tried to contextualise the 2023 season so far. Discussion points include Aston Martin and how far they can go after the new Honda deal but hamstrung by Lance Stroll. Mercedes who made step in the right direction and how it was to see Sir Lewis smiling again, although George Russell needs to make sure he doesn't become like Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button. And of course, Estie Bestie's superb performance at Monaco We managed to spare Ferrari from some deserved slander but that will happen in weeks to come. We love to hear from you so engage with us on twitter @drsopenpod and Instagram: @drsopenpodcast.
Toto Wolff makes mention that Mercedes have Charles Leclerc on their board for a long term seat in the future. While both Toto and Charles confirm there has been no official lines opened between team Mercedes and driver Charles. They both confirm a conversation in transit while returning from a grand prix. We all know many deals aren't generated in the office. Many deals are birthed on the golf courses and possibly in this case, the airport.
Welcome to Season Two Episode One of the Racy Books Podcast! (This is the podcast where Hanna and Kate talk about things that interest them, mostly forgetting they are supposed to be doing something entertaining to other people!) This season we'll be reviving some of the worlds we entered in Season One and I made that pun because this week we're diving back into Samantha Towle's Revved series with Revived. This book scored points with us for its interconnectedness of racing and sex, but there are some CWs up top FYI. Some things that came up:Hanna has a new book out, Queen of Dust. We both enjoyed it.If you like kidnappings and have a high-tolerance for stream of consciousness, may we recommend: Kristin Ashley Rock Chick. It's pronounced Silver-stun, according to Sir Lewis (we don't have time to unpack the questionable American-English accent). What is rally racing? We still don't really know so prepare for this to come up again and again in Season Two.For those following along with microtropes we got: Pre-race rituals! Balaclavas! Therapy gone too far! But no Disney mentions. And! We learned about super license fees! (Kind of/from TikTok, as one does.)Now, for our hero: we think it's Alonso. Don't forget to check out our playlist for this book and get started reading [KATE I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S NEXT PLEASE ADD THAT IN TYSM]. Editor's note: Our next book is The Price of Success by Maya Blake
Langa sat down to chat with Sir Lewis and Mercedes fan Eni Shobo to discuss the 2022 Sao Paulo grand prix which marked Mercedes AMG's first win of the season. We deep dived into the fall out from Max Verstappen refusing to let his teammate through despite team orders, his collision with Sir Lewis Hamilton and reflected on the cost cap scandal. We also spoke at length about an incredible first win for George Russell and Mercedes' strong development this year. The Mercedes car is truly indestructible. We reflected on the career and character arcs of Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo who may be racing for the last time in F1 next week at Abu Dhabi. Finally we had thoughts on the rumours of Mattia Binnoto's role as team principle at Ferrari being under threat and we have the return of Kevin Magnussen appreciation corner as the Dane scored his and Haas' first ever pole position. Digressions include Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspurs, who Eni supports, whether Mercedes should have a junior team talent management in F1, Toto Wolff learning from mistakes and when Niki Lauda tried to sign Verstappen for Mercedes. Eni is extremely considered and funny and presented Langa with a number of ideas that gave him food for thought. The only thing more egregious than the FIA's corruption is Matt's deathbed voice (get well soon, bubbeleh!). The boys cover all the headlines from this week's Japanese GP including Pierre Gasly's warranted anger, why the FIA should hire us if they want to become really good at cheating, the cinematic story arc of Seb vs. Alonso, how Christian's whooping Toto in 3D chess, why we should invade Switzerland, Sir Lewis and Max being eerily similar, why Danny Ric has too much to live for, and 2 simple words that will solve Red Bull's cost cap issue: DEBIT CARD. This week's episode is a bit different: Adri is presenting on their own! They talk about one of the best races in the season, celebrate CTL's first anniversary - can you guys believe it's been a year already? -, Checo's dad at the London Pride, George's courage and compassion, Carlos' maiden win, tension rising at Ferrari, the disgusting events at Austria towards the fans and Masi's official departure from FIA. Once again, CTL condemns any act of racism, homophobia, sexism and harassament, be it towards the drivers or fans. The episodes involving Lewis and Nelson Piquet's racist quote at a podcast and some fans being abusive towards others are unacceptable and as Sir Lewis said in his tweets: enough talking, it's time for action. ----- Crossing Recs Adri: "One of Us is Lying" a book written by Karen M.
