Amanda Hunter's journey from the depths of addiction to a life of purpose and peace illuminates the extraordinary power of redemption. Born into a military family without spiritual foundation, Amanda's early experimentation with substances at age 13 set the stage for decades of struggle. The absence of faith left her vulnerable to toxic relationships, depression, and ultimately a devastating spiral into prescription drug abuse that evolved into heroin and methamphetamine addiction. The turning point came dramatically—a high-speed police chase through Destin ending in her arrest with 47 criminal charges. It was rock bottom. Face down in the dirt, handcuffed, Amanda believed she had nothing left to lose. But within the confines of Okaloosa County Jail, she encountered Jesus. Through studying Ephesians, she discovered her battles weren't merely chemical imbalances as doctors had claimed, but spiritual warfare that required spiritual solutions. What makes Amanda's testimony particularly powerful is her raw honesty about recovery. After 16 months in jail, Stephanie McMinn from the Yellow House offered her an alternative to prison—a faith-based recovery program that required her to face her emotions without medication. "It wasn't graceful," Amanda admits. The healing journey meant confronting perfectionism, control issues, and learning to receive love after years of abuse had taught her to expect harm from relationships. Most challenging was forgiving herself.Today, Amanda manages All Things New, a nonprofit gift shop where she mentors women walking similar paths. Her message transcends mere sobriety—it's about an "upside-down kingdom" where what the world labels failure becomes part of a beautiful testimony. For anyone feeling hopeless, her words resonate with quiet authority: "He delights in you, even in your mess. He's never taken His eye off of you." Amanda's life stands as living proof that relationship with Jesus changes everything, not by avoiding pain, but by finding purpose within it.Take your first step today. Read God's Word. Find a Christ-centered community. Your road to redemption awaits. For more information contact us atrtrdestiny@gmail.com

“I found writing almost an unbelievably incredible way to deal with the grief. It was a way to channel my energy in a really productive way that ultimately led to this book that I've written. And it was therapeutic. It was really helpful for me in many ways." — Glenn Hilemann In this deeply moving episode of "Uncorking a Story," we explore the poignant journey of Glenn Hilemann, who turned a heart-wrenching tragedy into a legacy of love and storytelling. Following the devastating loss of his parents in the East Troublesome fire of 2020, Glenn embarked on a path he never anticipated—writing a memoir that captures the essence of his parents' lives, their love, and the indelible mark they left on him. Through our conversation, Glenn shares how writing became an unexpected sanctuary of grief processing, a medium for preserving cherished memories, and a bridge to understanding his parents' lives more profoundly than ever before. This episode is not just a story about loss; it's a testament to the power of storytelling to heal, connect, and immortalize our most treasured connections. Meet Glenn Hileman Glenn Hileman is the CEO of Highmark School Development and has spent over fifteen years living in Bountiful, Utah. His love of Grand Lake, Colorado led to him purchasing his parent's home in 2020. His family is actively working to restore the property from the devastation of the East Troublesome Fire and, in doing so, they hope to honor the legacy of his parents. He joined me on Uncorking a Story to talk about his memoir, "A Yellow House in the Mountains.” Key Themes: The Catalyst of Writing: Glenn Hilemann's journey as an author began in the wake of a devastating fire that claimed his parents' home and lives. The tragedy opened a path for him to write, capturing memories and stories of his parents to honor their legacy. Writing as Therapy: Glenn discovered writing as a powerful medium for processing grief. The act of capturing his parents' stories not only preserved their memory but also provided him a therapeutic outlet. The Power of Shared Stories: Throughout the process, Glenn learned more about his parents' lives through stories shared by relatives. This not only deepened his understanding of his parents but also the bonds within his family. Creative Inspiration: Glenn's creative journey was sparked unexpectedly through music, leading him to write a song that encapsulated his parents' lives, demonstrating the unforeseen ways creativity can emerge. The Challenge of Publication: Transitioning from manuscript to published book involved learning the intricacies of editing, design, and publication, highlighting the dedication required to bring a story to readers. The Importance of Legacy: Beyond personal healing, Glenn's work stands as a testament to his parents' lives, offering insights and inspiration to others through the universal themes of love, loss, and resilience. Future Endeavors: Glenn is contemplating a follow-up book focused on the recovery and restoration process post-fire, aiming to share lessons learned and the continued impact of his parents' legacy. More than discussing plants, however, we will be reflecting on how the Master Gardener has revealed Himself to us all the more through green, growing things.Check back later for the second half of this conversation! (Which I love even more than the first!)

Glenn Hileman's parents lived a love story for the ages. Their story ended together when the East Troublesome fire in Colorado took their lives and the home they had built and loved together. Their son, Glenn, needed action to go forward with his grief. He mobilized the community to begin rebuilding and wrote a book telling their story. Although true, their lives feel almost like a novel! Sometimes home is a place and sometimes, even when that place is lost it lives in the hearts of all the people connected to it! Telling their story cemented Glenn's love for his parents and continues to help him in carrying his grief. Theirs is truly a story of love and refinement.

Over the next few weeks, I've got something a wee bit different for you! This is the very first edition of Cold Pitch, an experimental media project from YellowHouse.Media. Cold Pitch explores media, curiosity, and identity through a variety of forms and methods. In this first edition, Sean McMullin (my husband & partner at YellowHouse.Media) and I talk about, well, cold pitches. A cold pitch, simply put, is a request to a stranger to do something for you. Podcasters deal with cold pitches every single day. Most are terrible. Not only are they irrelevant and poorly executed—they most often start with an outright lie.I have feelings. Clearly. In this conversation, we talk about the social "meat space" basis of a cold pitch, the psychology of email, what you might learn from the autistic folks in your life about honest & direct communication and more.If you dig it, follow along with Cold Pitch at coldpitch.substack.comAnd you can find a written version of this edition, along with links to references, here: https://coldpitch.substack.com/p/an-inbox-full-of-lies Learn more about YellowHouse.Media, our audio production agency Find out more about Sean McMullin Support What Works ★ Support this podcast ★

In episode forty-three, Alex and Karly introduce the pod to Alyssa, of Alyssa's Yellow House. Alyssa is a neurodivergent home organization strategist who works with people who have ADHD and autism, as well as others struggling with conventional organization techniques, to take the shame and anxiety out of home organization and build successful systems that work for them so they can stop stressing and truly relax in their space. She knows the story, since she struggled for years with self-blame, stress, and shame around her disorganization. But after being late-diagnosed neurodivergent, she began to think about organization differently and discovered a better way. Now, she wants everyone to know organizing doesn't have to be one-size-fits-all and with the right tools you can create a restful, organized home. Tune in for all of Alyssa's tips, advice for late discovered autistics and her autistic glimmer. Thank you for listening!

Trust me, this is a very Sean thing to do.Each week, he shares a fresh pep talk along with a poem, some tunes, and other audio goodies. You just select from the phone tree which you'd like to hear. Plus, you can even leave him a message yourself! You can hear this week's edition by listening to this quick episode. Or, dial 1-406-200-8460 to get the full experience. Hey hey mama! Are you neurodiverse? Do you feel like you have tried all the systems to get your home organized but none of them seem to work for you? You are not lazy or unorganized! You just need a different approach that works with the way you process! Join me today as Alyssa from Alyssa's Yellow House shares about the systems she developed to help make organization make sense!Through a series of life turns (we all know how those happen) Alyssa found herself at home and feeling frustrated that despite all of her efforts, her home didn't seem to feel organized. So Alyssa took her background in psychology and created systems that worked with her brain in a way that felt more intuitive. Then she started seeing so many around her struggling like she had been and reaching out for her help. So Alyssa's Yellow House was born! Now Alyssa takes the approach of knowing there are so many different ways to do things so the key is to find what works for you and your household. And that's what she does! Helps you understand the things that are truly getting in your way and helps you to create a system to find the path that is right for you! This week I was excited to welcome Tara McMullen to the show to hear her insights, research, and reflections on her new book, What Works: A Comprehensive Framework to Change the Way We Approach Goal Setting. Tara is a writer, podcaster, and producer who for over 13 years has studied small business owners - how they live, how they work, what influences them, and what they hope for the future. In this conversation Tara shares with us how to transform the way you set and achieve your goals to create a gentler and more fulfilling way to work toward what you truly want. In the book, you'll explore what's driving your pursuit of “more” (more money, more things, more prestige, etc.), set commitments to help orient your growth, and organize your actions as part of a holistic learning process. In addition to writing and speaking Tara is the host of What Works, a podcast about navigating the 21st-century economy with your humanity intact. Tara is also the co-founder of YellowHouse.Media, a boutique podcast production company. Her work has been featured in Fast Company, The Startup, The Muse, and The Huffington Post. LIGHTSPEED MAGAZINE - Science Fiction and Fantasy Story Podcast (Sci-Fi | Audiobook | Short Stories)
On the first floor of a Colonial-style house constructed last century out of planks of old growth cedar, a monster is dragging a woman's husband from room to room. The specific path this monster takes will be evident the next morning from the gashes in the wood floors and the splattering of the husband's innards upon the plaster walls. Blood on the ceiling. The woman herself is hiding in the upstairs bedroom in her closet, face buried in the nylon hems of her patterned dresses, hands to her ears, a washcloth between her teeth so she can bite down hard on something that isn't her tongue. | Copyright 2022 by Debbie Urbanski. Narrated by Roxanne Hernandez.
Tell me if this sounds familiar: You get a Bachelor's degree, but it doesn't really feel like enough, so you apply for a Master's program. You attain the Master's but turns out, it doesn't feel like enough either, so you start your own business. You set the goal to make six figures in your business, but when you achieve that marker, it somehow still doesn't feel like enough. Maybe the key to happiness is to attain seven figures in your biz? Or maybe the goal should be to get married… or have a baby… or lose fifty pounds. So, you set up more lofty goals. Because, if you aren't on a path toward attaining a big goal, what is your life even about? But, also, why haven't any of these goals created happiness? Like, when-the-fuck is happiness going to show up? Does that scenario sound like the strategy of achievement you've employed in your own life? Through societal influences, systems of oppression, and families of origin, we learn very early on that there are those who achieve (aka the GOOD folks) and there are those who don't (aka the BAD folks… the lazy losers). And, in a culture that glorifies hustle, wears burnout like a badge of honor, and focuses on capitalism and productivity, it's no wonder that so many of us collapse our entire sense of self-worth with what we accomplish. What we lose sight of while we strive, and strive, and strive, is… what actually brings us happiness and fulfillment. This week on the show, I dial up Tara McMullin, a writer, podcaster, and producer, who has spent the last 13 years studying what makes small business owners tick. She has recently written her first book entitled, What Works: A Comprehensive Framework To Change The Way We Approach Goal Setting. In this chat, Tara and I discuss the myriad of influences telling us what we're “supposed to want” and what we “should” strive for and how to discern what is truly a desire of your heart. And, don't worry, you don't have to throw all your goals aways… Tara simply invites you to think critically about why you want to attain them to begin with. This pod explore How capitalism has a vested interest in keeping us unfulfilled The origin of modern-day goal setting and how it can often steal your joy The intersection between the self help community and goal setting and how it can sometimes cause you to move farther away from yourself How to use critical thinking to ensure your goals have your “informed consent” ____ LAST CALL TO APPLY FOR WORTHY.!
