SmartRIA founder Mac Bartine joined the Wealth Preservation Podcast once more and shared his insight on building and scaling a SaaS company with a virtual workforce. Mac's extensive experience in the startup world gives him keen insight on the common mistakes new companies make -- and bad company culture can derail a company's progress. We discuss the work that went into starting the company, scaling to bigger clients, decentralizing the decision making, which roles were the first to be outsourced, and so much more. Mac also shares his views regarding mentorship and why it's important to have many mentors -- not one mentor or coach -- many! Whether you're a SaaS company, a legal firm, a blue-collar company, or anything in between, Mac's experience as an entrepreneur is relevant to any business. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when someone realizes how their unique skill set can be applied in multiple industries and how it unlocked their true potential. SmartRIA founder Mac Bartine joined the Wealth Preservation Podcast and shared his experience as a serial entrepreneur who tried to do way too much, on his own, for way too long. His drive to solve problems and think creatively made him highly motivated as an entrepreneur, but it took a decade of side hustles before all of his experience came together to create a strong, healthy, and rapidly growing business. In this episode, we explore Mac's past: growing up with a nuclear physicist and professional musician as parents, his college experience, and his first few startups. Mac admits that he has probably made every mistake he could when it comes to startups, but one thing Mac never did was give up on his curiosity for solving unique problems. This is what ultimately led him to start SmartRIA, a compliance software and service, despite not having a background in financial services or compliance. For Mac, it is always about the identifiable problem and solving it in creative ways. We also go into Mac's advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and warnings to not make the same mistakes he made. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when someone realizes how their unique skill set can be applied in multiple industries and how it unlocked their true potential. Savion Nehemiah built his marketing and branding company, 413 Media, after his dad joked with him that he partied so much that he needed to get paid to party. That joke turned into a revelation, an idea, and eventually, a thriving business. In this episode, Sav dives into his process of building creative and impactful branding for companies and individuals. Sav has the unique hurdle of needing to systematize his process so that he can scale, but not so much that it restricts his creativity. We also explore the Name, Image, and Likeness industry, especially as it pertains to college, and even high school athletes. Sav also shares behind-the-scenes aspects of running a business, and the time and attention required for some of the less than exciting activities. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when guests are able to share their authentic story about becoming an entrepreneur out of necessity. Not every business is built with a combination of education, deep pockets, and meticulous planning. Most of the time, it's necessity, grit, and a desire to create something unique. That joke turned into a revelation, an idea, and eventually, a thriving business. In this episode, Sav gives us a glimpse of his childhood, early business exposure, his short stint in a touring rap group, and how he worked with his college to develop a degree specifically for his passion. All this plays a role in his eventual launching of 413 Media, which he admits was more out of necessity than desire at the beginning. Sav shares stories of initial successes, flops, and pivots. And we touch on the new market for NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) marketing for college and high school athletes. Finoa's co-founder, Henrik Gebbing, revisits the Wealth Preservation Podcast to discuss the specific niche in the crypto investing world they are servicing, the process of scaling a company, the mindset of a business owner using investors' money, and how they've exploded in growth since their 2018 launch date. Henrik is very open about their struggle to get the attention of venture capital, the mental fatigue from consistent rejection, the self-doubt, and the responsibility to best serve clients, investors, and employees. Finoa has the benefit of shaping their company with the new regulations that develop, but that does require Henrik and his co-founder, Chris, to be consistently on top of the ever-changing industry. In this episode we also discuss what specifically the institutional investors needs are and why Finoa is able to fill those needs. From security to regulation to staking assets…getting into the crypto space can seem a bit daunting. This episode is a fantastic listen for anyone looking to learn a little more about the crypto industry or an aspiring entrepreneur who has the goal of one day getting venture capital. It is a rough yet rewarding road ahead. Finoa's co-founder, Henrik Gebbing, isn't just innovating in any old space. He is innovating inside an already innovative arena. That is the equivalent to a caveman inventing the BIC lighter when fire was just being discovered! But in all seriousness, Henrik's entrepreneurial journey, though it takes place in an industry many don't understand, has many of the same elements of the usual start-up story. In this episode, we look into Henrik's past and learn a little more about his early childhood entrepreneurial signs. He reminisces about finishing his master's program in San Francisco, having work visa complications prevent him from getting a job with a Bay Area tech firm, and how that issue was the best thing that could have happened. We also go into Henrik's first exposure to crypto and how foreign and sketchy the process used to be for crypto investors. Henrik and his then roommate (eventual business partner) discovered that the same process was used regardless of the amount or purpose of the crypto purchase. With an understanding that early adoption for regulation and streamlined crypto transacting could only strengthen the industry, Henrik and his business partner, Chris, got to work. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when someone realizes their hobby is in a field that is desperate for innovation…and they answer the call!If you enjoyed Henrik's episode and want to hear from more entrepreneurs and strategists, please check out and subscribe to one of our many channels and visit our website. Xplicit Fitness is a boutique boxing gym with a tech-based sister company, Kount-!t, which, when combining the two businesses into one vision, makes for an exciting breakthrough in the boxing industry. Golden Glove Champion, Chad Yarvitz, walked away from what most would consider success to pursue what most would consider crazy. In this episode, Chad goes into the rise and fall of his original concept of a sports and boxing complex and how COVID forced him to rethink his business into something better. Chad had his hand in many ventures and was stretching himself too thin. He also was not fully systematizing his business to either increase efficiency or open himself up to becoming a franchise. COVID was the make-or-break moment for him to either close up shop or reshape his company. In this process, Kount-!t was born. We cover everything from how he was introduced to the technology that supports his smart punching bag, why he went the SaaS route, the partners he joined with, where his vision is set, and where YOU might be seeing a Kount-!t bag in the near future. Golden Glove Champion, Chad Yarvitz, walked away from what most would consider success to pursue what most would consider crazy. In this episode, Chad goes all the way back to his childhood, and we get to hear about his initial introduction to team sports, martial arts, and boxing. Through his athletic training and watching his dad always hustling, Chad developed a “never quit” attitude when it came to executing on his ideas. But even after accomplishing a 6-figure income at a young age, Chad knew time was ticking for him to get invaluable experience as an athlete and a trainer. We discuss his boxing career, his transition out of professional boxing, starting a gym, his mistakes and failures, what he's learned, and how Covid helped him reshape his business into something much bigger. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when someone realizes that they have much more room to grow, despite achieving what others would consider “making it.” Chad took the risk on himself, because he understood that trying, learning, and failing is a far better option than not trying and not learning. Entrepreneur success stories come in many different shapes and sizes. In this second installment with Caylan Larson, we go into how his side project of making a label printer with the best hardware and software combination went from a small hustle to eclipsing his successful consulting practice. Caylan had mentors and close friends advising he not quit his day job (which he didn't) and he has now left them speechless in how his project has come together and disrupted the label printing market. But the story of how he has grown this project is something everyone can learn from. In the episode we cover identifying a true need, ruling out bad ideas, technological debt, scaling a business up, prioritizing improvements, and the opportunity cost of going all in on your side hustle over balancing two jobs. Caylan also goes into the different applications for his printer, how customers are using it, why it is far more efficient than what more people have access too, his value proposition, and why Label LIVE is reaching such a large portion of the market. When he set out to make a better label printer, he did not think he was creating a mini printing press that would save potentially hundreds of hours' worth of work and analysis for consumers. He also didn't know that he would become a global company so quickly. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE the unique roads people travel on their journey through entrepreneurism. Entrepreneur success stories come in many different shapes and sizes. Our part one episode with the computer coding, co-op farming, concession stand running, custom label making Caylan Larson, is no exception. In this episode, we go into detail about how Caylan's love for problem solving and computers, as a kid, gave him direction and purpose as he navigated his troubled teen years, family tragedy, and finding his place in community. He admits that creating labels was not a lifelong passion and, as we discover, not his first invention. Caylan could have worked at his selection of tech firms, and he even had extremely predictable and steady career options. His drive to challenge himself kept him away from choosing “comfort,” and his purpose was found in helping other people succeed. This combination led Caylan to becoming a consultant, but the entrepreneurial journey didn't stop there. Caylan set out to form a small side hustle with Label Live, bridging the tech gap in the label making and printing industry. In his words, this little project “spiraled out of control” as he eventually found more and more people across the globe who found his label printer incredibly helpful in their business. We cover everything from challenging yourself and your kids, serving others, when to be conservative vs liberal in your risk taking, insurance companies, farming co-ops, relationship spawning naan, coffee roasting…and how all of this ties into Caylan innovating in the label printing industry. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE the unique roads people travel on their journey through entrepreneurism. John Rubino joins the Wealth Preservation Podcast to share the unconventional story of how his business was formed. Many entrepreneurs see a need in the market. John saw the success he was already having, using real estate investments for accredited investors, and figured starting a real estate investment business would open the door for others to join in the fun! It's hard to not get amped up, as John repeatedly could not help himself from getting excitable. John walks through the process of how real estate opportunities are found, his unique niche in the market, the value it adds to both developer and investor, and the math behind the opportunities. His passion about orchestrating niche real estate deals for accredited investors is strikingly apparent. As we discovered in his origin story, this is not something he just helps others with. This is what John has been doing, and continues to do, personally. His entrepreneurial venture was birthed from a passion to share with others the strategy he still implements. Something we find very common in the entrepreneurial space is the mindset of giving, not scarcity. John could have easily not shared this information with others, but he had a drive to get more people on his team and enjoy the journey with him. John could have easily kept this information close to the chest, yet, personally reaping the incredible value, felt compelled to bring it to market so that others could benefit. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when someone realizes that they don't have to reinvent the wheel to become entrepreneurial. They need education, to find their niche, and to work relentlessly toward a goal. Olde Virden's TN Pepper Co. has an incredibly tasty line up of farm fresh spices and boasts an inspiring story of how, husband and wife, Chris and Allyson Virden took a simple idea and revolutionized a product found nationwide. These Knoxville entrepreneurs share with us their story of bringing their product to market, getting into grocery stores, and the hilarious twists and turns their entrepreneurial journey has taken them on. In our first episode with Chris and Allyson, we dive into how they met and became the entrepreneur duo that they are today. Their story is not the typical “mutual friend” beginning. Allyson sold one of her businesses and decided to hike the Appalachian Trail, where she met Chris. They not only hit it off well, but they've also been co-workers, business partners, and each other's support system ever since. As we unfold the origin story of getting Olde Virden's Tennessee Pepper Co. up and running, we discover many fun anecdotes of how they overcame adversity. One of the most impressive? Their ability to launch their company with roughly 1% of the recommended start up nest egg! Their grit, determination, and dedication to their craft left them with no doubt, that what they were doing, was worth every ounce of effort! We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE stories like Chris and Allyson's. They had an idea, knew they'd regret not chasing it, and supported each other throughout the struggle. The SaaS entrepreneur and self-proclaimed psycho, Brett Owens, joined us for a 2-part episode about his origins as an entrepreneur, the lessons learned in his numerous SaaS startups, and why he prefers self-funding over seeking out investors. This episode was all about Brett's journey of self-funding each of his startups and why he prefers to not get outside investors, unless it's needed. We get into the nitty gritty of what the first year is like, how much of a nest egg Brett thinks is adequate, how many startups waste time/resources, and the dangers of getting outside investment money. We obviously know that outside investment is sometimes needed and, in many cases, extremely helpful. We don't want this to come off as a podcast telling you that it's bootstrap or bust. What we DO want to let people know is, that looking for funding, just to have funding, can absolutely be your demise, and we hope to provide a realistic view of what it looks like to self-fund. Brett's three self-funded, successful companies have given him valuable insight on this topic, and we are happy to share that insight with our listeners. The SaaS entrepreneur and self-proclaimed psycho, Brett Owens, joined us for a 2-part episode about his origins as an entrepreneur, the lessons learned in his numerous SaaS startups, and why he prefers self-funding over seeking out investors. In our first episode, we lean more into his history and the rise and exit from his various companies. Brett was on the pathway to corporate success with an engineering degree from Cornell, a desirable job, and plenty of upward potential. Only one problem: HE HATED IT!Brett shares the awkwardness of telling his family about going into business for himself (during the Great Recession), the various startups he's been a part of, why investing $300K in a business and walking away with $95K is a win in his book, and so much more! We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when someone realizes that the risk on themselves is far greater than climbing the corporate ladder of misery. Delusional Altruism author and philanthropy consultant, Kris Putnam-Walkerly, joins us again on the Wealth Preservation Podcast and dives deeper into the topics of her book and the errors and education she gives to other philanthropists. Whether it is a family foundation, charitable organization, or just a stand-alone philanthropist, Kris has amazing insight on how to make a bigger impact and minimize waste. But, there is a HUGE market that is likely unknowing of their need for someone like Kris: the estate, tax, and financial sectors! Kris shares that those, at the core of a client's wealth and legal counsel, are in a unique position to bring creative solutions to the table. This can help leave a legacy behind, improve the world around us, and turn into generational clients. That is a WIN-WIN-WIN! So why don't more people do this? Simple: they haven't met someone like Kris to open their eyes! Here on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, we LOVE when people share their stories about giving back to the community and having a heart for serving a need. So naturally, we were OVERJOYED to have a combination of two awesome topics: philanthropy and entrepreneurship. Our guest, Kris Putnam-Walkerly, is the combination of those 2 things in human form! She admits, early on, that the thought of being a charitable giving consultant scared the daylights out of her, but the more time she spent working with foundations and philanthropists, the more she realized she needed to step into her calling. Kris began a consulting firm giving philanthropy advice and guidance to others, who were either looking to make an impact or unknowingly wasting their philanthropic efforts. Over the years, she realized that she could make an even bigger impact by writing Delusional Altruism, which allows others to learn from Kris more easily without booking an appointment. In this episode, we dive more into her upbringing, early career, and why she chose to go into business for herself rather than continue in the nonprofit world. We had an absolute blast, and we hope this episode is able to help our listeners create the biggest impact in their giving. Allison Sugahara and Derek Thomas are a husband-and-wife entrepreneur couple with very different personalities but a rock-solid business. In our first episode, they shared all about their upbringings, how they got started, their clashing personalities, and so much more. In this follow-up episode, we dove into the actual process they go through when building out a marketing plan. We go over what needs to be done before hiring a marketing firm, what NOT to do when you do hire one, Polygon Market's process of developing branding and marketing, and some tangible practices and tips you can implement today. Allison Sugahara and Derek Thomas are a husband-and-wife entrepreneur couple with very different personalities but a rock-solid business. In this episode, we dive into background of both Allison and Derek to learn a little more about what motivated them to start Polygon Market. Interestingly enough, each had a very different outlook on work, career, money, and life in general, all the way up to their wedding day. That is when it all changed, and Derek ended up walking away from a career to join his wife who he described as much “happier in her work” than he was, despite his success. We dive into what it was like for Allison, the self-proclaimed “control freak,” to relinquish her oversight on certain elements of the company and how Derek adapted from his career life to entrepreneurship. There are many interesting nuggets of information ranging from dealing with less than supportive family and friends, the panic of low workload, the stress of cashflow management, and so much more. Polygon Market has made a huge splash as a marketing consultant firm in its few short years of existence from helping small, local companies to some publicly trading names. This success from their niche branding has helped them gain quite a reputation and a social media following…even on TikTok! We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when we hear about a power couple with very different personalities, who is able to work together, complement each other, and find a way to dominate their industry. Ray Young from Razor Sharp Public Relations, a boutique PR firm, joins us again on the Wealth Preservation Podcast and talks about how entrepreneurs can be managing their own public relations, up until the point where it makes sense to outsource. While it may seem like managing your PR would be time costly and overwhelming, Ray breaks it down into simple steps of what can be done to make it manageable and slowly scale up your overall strategy. We discuss the parameters of what is involved in public relations, the different target outcomes, and why you might not be able to afford NOT prioritizing your PR campaign. Ray also shares stories of strategies that have worked and have failed, the changes in the industry over 20 years, and the old school PR techniques that are highly effective today. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE stories where people identify their uniqueness and ability to achieve more on their own than as someone else's staff member - only the bold follow that realization to its incredible end! Ray Young is an entrepreneur and family man who launched his boutique public relations firm during a time of absolute uncertainty. Like many entrepreneurs, he saw a niche that he felt was underserved, ripe for an innovative breakthrough. In this episode we dive more into WHO Ray is rather than what he does. A business is only as strong as the character and integrity of the people operating it. Ray dives into his childhood, early aspirations, college experience (and opinions on how college has changed), and what it was like launching a business in the midst of the financial crisis while having four of his eventual seven kids. He did not have the luxury of living off of savings; he had to use his life's worth of experience and knowledge to execute his business plan and vision perfectly. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE stories where people identify their uniqueness and ability to achieve more on their own than as someone else's staff member - only the bold follow that realization to its incredible end! Laura Meier sat down with the Wealth Preservation Podcast and shared her story of becoming a published author, entrepreneur, powerhouse estate planning attorney, and marketing monster -- all while running the company with her supportive husband and their four kids. Among the many talents of Laura, marketing has got to be close to the top. Both her and her husband Josh do a phenomenal job as estate planners and attorneys, but Laura knows that it takes more then a good product or service to be successful. It takes about 7 to 12 touches before a prospect converts into a client! In the episode, we dive heavily into what Laura’s marketing strategies and how she builds multiple ways to reach her target audience. We also discuss some of the common failures of entrepreneurs and how poor expectations can lead to wasted effort. The goal is typically to grow enough to where you can outsource this portion of your business, but Laura also shares the importance of keeping your pulse on your marketing to ensure you don’t lose authenticity. You can outsource a lot of the marketing tasks but you can’t outsource your personality and unique touch. Laura Meier sat down with the Wealth Preservation Podcast and shared her story of becoming a published author, entrepreneur, powerhouse estate planning attorney, and marketing monster -- all while running the company with her supportive husband and their four kids. Laura has an incredible story spanning the early influence of seeing women leaders, to becoming a top attorney right out of law school, to ultimately building her own business with her husband from their kitchen table. This mompreneur author and estate planner was definitely not handed the keys to success. She has built an incredible team around her, heavily focused on her marketing, and has kept a posture of serving her family and others at the forefront of her life. In this episode we discuss Laura’s early childhood, post law school experience, and how her past influenced the creation of her and her husband’s Newport Beach estate planning practice, Meier Law Firm. We also dive into Laura’s two books, why she was inspired to write them, and how she fit them into her VERY tight schedule. This is another great testament to the power of determination and conviction. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when someone realizes that they are the obstacle in their own way and has the honesty to address their faults in order to succeed in entrepreneurship. Joshua Rotbart, Founder of J.Rotbart & Company, sat back down with the Wealth Preservation Podcast and took us on a deeper dive of what it is like to diversify into precious metals. It is very common to hear about people “diversifying into gold,” but not really knowing exactly what that means. There are many reasons why someone would explore buying gold, silver, or other precious metals but, whatever the reason is, the HOW is critically important. Josh goes into the details of purchasing gold and silver, who they purchase it from, how the gold and silver transportation process works, and much more. We also discuss what it is like for Josh, as the face of the company, to be in an industry that relies heavily on trust and security. When you are purchasing, transporting, and securely storing seven figures worth of precious metals, you need to have a tight run ship. Clients need to feel they are your top priority and have the utmost confidence in your team -- a FANTASTIC thing to model with any business! We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE hearing about the giant risks that entrepreneurs make and how they turn a sliver of an open door into a thriving, amazing company. Joshua Rotbart, Founder of J.Rotbart & Company, sat down with the Wealth Preservation Podcast to share his story of how he left his job as a corporate lawyer in Israel and moved to Hong Kong with NO job prospects. Having grown up with two hard working parents who instilled in him a strong work ethic, Joshua knew that opportunity would not find him -- he needed to get out of his 100 square foot apartment and network if he was going to make it in Hong Kong. His journey of eventually opening his own bullion storage, brokerage, and advisory service business is incredible and inspires listeners to pursue wild opportunities even if they seem outlandish. Joshua did not have a background in this industry but dove headfirst into this venture and quickly made a name for himself. Within this episode, we also cover his upbringing and inspirations from growing up in Israel, career burnout, his side hustle in law school, and how he gained experience in new fields. Chris Shuba, founder of Helios Quantitative and Helios Integrated Planning, sat down with the Wealth Preservation Podcast and shared his entrepreneurial journey of bringing quantitative analysis and automation into the financial advising space. But like many (if not all) of the other guests on our show, Chris discovered that you don’t just “open your doors” and have a business. His skills in the quantitative space have been years in the making and he had quite a career before leaping out on his own. Chris takes us through honing his exact business plan, how he identified his ideal client, the struggle of explaining his industry’s complexities, earning trust, and the philosophy that keeps him motivated: love the problem more than the solution. We also dive into his book recommendations for other entrepreneurs, advice he wishes he was given, his inspirations, and even his dream golf team! James Onieal sat down with the Wealth Preservation Podcast, again, to discuss the ins and outs of what he does aside from his aviation job: career consulting. If you listened to our first episode with James, you’ll know why he decided to become a career consultant and help others advance their careers. In this episode, you’ll hear the strategy, tactics, and psychology behind James’ method. James brings together a data driven analysis of career decisions and utilizes emotionally driven strategies that can yield a leg up on the competition. We review things like disarming honesty, networking around competitive minimums, leveraging graceful status demotions, and making your resume look like the job position’s predecessors – NOT the job description. As in his first episode, James brings knowledge and coaching alongside his own sarcastic sense of humor. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE when someone hits an absolute brick wall, has the cards stacked against them, and they are able to innovate themselves out of a hole.If you enjoyed James‘ episode and want to hear from more entrepreneurs and strategists, please check out and subscribe to one of our many channels and visit our website. James Onieal sat down with the Wealth Preservation Podcast and outlined his origin story of, despite having an initial fear of flying, becoming a pilot and then becoming a career counselor within the aviation industry. While his field may seem niche, James dealt with all the struggles that every other entrepreneur deals with when scaling up a small business. Not only does James share his relatable stories as a struggling business owner, but he also dives more into the adversity and incredibly simple beginnings of what would eventually become a major part of his career: Raven Career Development. You do not need a complex business plan to launch a startup. Sometimes it’s as simple as having a small piece of knowledge that others will pay for. Also discussed in this episode was the way James navigated positive growth in his business after the desolation of the aviation industry during the Covid-19 pandemic. Being an entrepreneur requires the ability to adapt, commit, and charge ahead when the rules of the game change. Raven Career Development did so in a BIG way in 2020. Gabrielle Bosché joined the Wealth Preservation Podcast again to discuss her book, The Purpose Factor, and the company that she and her husband, Brian, have built around their extensive research. While so many people focus on their “why,” Gabrielle and Brian focus on finding your purpose through discovering your “who.” When you know exactly what you are meant to do and can focus on the exact type of person you want to help, that is where Gabrielle says you find fulfillment. With self-discovery, setting up systems, and taking control of your destiny, Gabrielle and Brian work with groups and individuals to greatly increase their impacts and legacies they leave behind. At 23, Gabrielle quit her job to launch her first company, consulting major brands and the government on how to reach millennials. Her breakout moment came when, at a networking meeting, she introduced herself as a "millennial expert" to someone who would end up being her first client (the U.S. Navy). Gabrielle has written five books covering topics regarding millennial motivation, next-generation entrepreneurship, and how to find your purpose. Gabrielle's approach to life, love, and business is the self-deprecating, deeply wise, and insanely practical solution we need right now.Gabrielle is one of the most booked millennial motivators in the world. James Crawford, founder of the Venture Leather Company, is producing high-quality leather products out of Uganda. In his first episode, we heard all about how this millennial entrepreneur dropped his steady job in San Diego to start a business in Africa. In this episode, James goes into what it is like running a company in a different country. He shares stories of working in a completely different culture and the hurdles of being an “outsider.” We also get more insight into the microloan program, reinvestment into other businesses, and even how James has helped introduce additional industries into the Ugandan community, all from manufacturing leather. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE bringing stories of innovation and stoicism to our listeners so they can be inspired and educated to chase their passions. James Crawford joins the Wealth Preservation Podcast and shares his truly unique story of inspiration and journey through entrepreneurship in Uganda. While he admits to not being a born entrepreneur, James’ interest in developing countries and the complexities of growing economies led him to not only start a Ugandan leather company, but to do it for-profit. This was during a time when nonprofits were incredibly popular, and James even had prior experience in the nonprofit arena. But while James has an incredible amount of respect for the work nonprofits do for their causes, he had a concept and conviction that in order to truly make a difference, he needed to be a competitive, for-profit company and use the profits to reinvest in the community. This means he had to rely less on the charitable messaging and marketing and focus heavily on building a successful company producing high-quality leather products. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, LOVE bringing stories of innovation and stoicism to our listeners so they can be inspired and educated to chase their passions. Marques Ogden has the character and energy that instantly makes you think his NFL career immediately parleyed into the success he has today. That is NOT his story! Marques goes into detail about his struggles to be an effective leader and his eventual bankruptcy after the NFL. We cover his experience of getting drafted, starting a company, going bankrupt, having his “trash bag” moment, and eventually becoming the speaker, coach, and author he is today. Real estate investor and host of the Simple Passive Cashflow Podcast, Lane Kawaoka, joins us on the Wealth Preservation Podcast to share how he got off his “linear career” path. To Lane, the “linear career” consists of getting the education, the decent paying job, saving in company plans, advancing, and retiring with your retirement nest-egg. After getting a master’s degree and landing a solid job with plenty of upward potential, Lane realized he could probably do better. And, boy, was he right! Through his journey of becoming a real estate investor, he has accumulated a wealth of knowledge. He then takes his real estate investor stories and turns them into real estate investor advice via website and podcast at www.simplepassivecashflow.com. Andrew Henderson is an exceptional entrepreneur and fascinating individual. In his first episode on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, we go into how he went from a Midwestern boy to a world traveler, citizen of multiple countries, and global entrepreneur. His success is attributed to some very simple advice he was given at a young age: go where you’re treated best. In this episode we will discuss his humble beginnings in Ohio, how his dad influenced his outlook on the world, his brief college experience, finding a career without college, and eventually exploring the opportunity of investing and living outside the U.S.A. This is the story of how Andrew Henderson went where he was treated best and created the Nomad Capitalist brand! Brian Bradley of BTB Legal joins us on the Wealth Preservation Podcast as we explore the systems and procedures he puts in place to best set up his clients with the most cost efficient yet effective asset protection planning possible. No two people are alike and therefore plans MUST be flexible and designed around specific need and desires. We bust some of the asset protection myths and common mistakes, identify how you can absolutely OVERSPEND on your planning, walk through creating incentives to get attacking creditors to settle out of court, and even explore going offshore. Brian’s experience playing the role of both a prosecuting and asset protection attorney gave him the experience and insight to then bring citizens a plan and strategy to put in place BEFORE they came under duress. We, on the Wealth Preservation Podcast, are strong believers that keeping your money takes precedence over growing your money, and the BTB Legal team is helping educate and execute protection strategies nationwide! Brian Bradley of BTB Legal joins us on the Wealth Preservation Podcast and shares his journey of opting out of Navy Seal training to become an attorney entrepreneur. If you're thinking that building a successful law practice came easy, think again. His journey begins with getting out of law school right as a recession swept the nation and doors were closed to new hires in the legal world. His story continues to impress as he took unconventional tactics to build a name for himself, established his reputation, had to relearn money and marketing strategies, and put in place systems that would allow him to become a lawyer, business owner, and present husband/father to his family. This attorney entrepreneur has many examples of the grit and stoicism needed to master a profession and successfully run a business. Slight spoiler alert: a huge part of this attorney’s success story has to do with checking your ego at the door and knowing when an undesirable task is necessary in order to progress forward. If you're interested in Brian Bradley's story and would like to hear other entrepreneurial success stories, like and subscribe to one of our many channels and look for more content on our website. We sat down with successful entrepreneur, Twitter savant, and affordable chiropractor businessman Jared Thomas and captured his “how I started my chiropractic practice” story. Looking at his high-volume model, you might think he either inherited a successful practice or had deep pockets. WRONG!Dr. Thomas gave praise to someone you would NOT expect when it comes to running a popular chiropractor business: Henry Ford. So, how does the automobile revolution tie in with the chiropractic industry (and possibly your business as well?) We cover the topics of applying Henry Ford’s business model, becoming a “social media chiropractor,” and even briefly discuss Mortal Kombat! The Wealth Preservation Podcast didn't want to stop at just learning about the "WHY" behind Whole Story Meals’ approach to a nutritionally dense enteral formula. We wanted to know the HOW!? Seriously! How does a single mother entrepreneur take an ingenious idea and get it from her kitchen to production, ALL while maintaining her "raise ‘em wild" parenting style and staying active with a tubie? Life with a special needs child can make everyday tasks more cumbersome, but that didn't stop Autumn Cullen from taking on an entire industry. You may not be a mompreneur who is creating the first powered, nutrient dense enteral formula, but the struggles will be very similar. The necessity for advising counsel, getting stuck on issues, needing to outsource, or the intimidation of innovating in an area where you aren't considered an "expert” -- these are all very relevant hurdles for entrepreneurs. Enjoy Autumn Cullen's insightful story of how she built Whole Story Meals despite the obstacles and challenges in her way. Autumn Cullen came on the Wealth Preservation Podcast and laid down the hammer: nobody has excuses! That’s right! When the mother of 4 high energy boys found out she was having a special needs “tubie” baby (term used for community of tube fed individuals), she made it her mission to raise her daughter in the highest of standards without compromising the upbringing of her boys. That is were she ran into issues. Commercial formula did not provide her daughter with the dietary stability that her and her boys enjoyed. It also made it impossible to take the boys on hiking and backpacking trips as her daughter (and her heavy formula) had to be packed in and packed out. So, what did Autumn do? Create an enteral formula alternative to the big commercial formula available which gave her daughter a more well-balanced diet AND afforded her an active life with a tubie! She then saw the bigger calling! So many lives could be improved if she just added “mompreneur” onto her resume. We explore the journey of creating a nutrient dense enteral formula, the struggles of creating something new, her experience as a single mother entrepreneur, and how she got the attention of Hike It Baby, Backpacker Magazine, and Merrell!
While so many focus on rate of return, tax strategist Ed Cotney sheds light on why tax diversification in retirement planning is critical for wealth preservation! He also outlines that proper planning and getting excellent council is important in deciding when to do a Roth conversion. We dive into various estate tax strategies, and Mr. Cotney gives alarming arguments as to why you should probably start developing a 401(k)-liquidation strategy now! While tax deferment is great, there are some "tax deferred killers" that nullify years of tax efficiency! For more tax strategies from Mr. Cotney, you can find his contact on our podcast website, www.wealthpreservationpodcast.com, or purchase his book, Tax Secrets Made Simple, on Amazon. Wow is this episode full!? Mr. Ed Cotney is a tax and business strategist with an impressive background. In his opinion, even those considered, by many, as tax savants are only truly using a fraction of the 80,000+ pages of the IRS tax code. He thinks we should look at some of those pages. Mr. Cotney walks us through the tax difference of donating stock to charity versus donating cash to charity -- this could make you rethink charitable planning all together! We also tap into how the SECURE Act changed the RMD requirements for retirees and replaced them for inherited IRAs. For the new inherited IRA liquidation requirements, he also walks us through his “give it away twice” strategy where he uses Charitable Remainder Trusts as a tool for maximizing inherited IRAs. They say two things are certain: death and taxes. Our guest had not much to say about minimizing the former, but a TON on handling the ladder! Eli Weiner sat down (again) with the Wealth Preservation Podcast and walked through examples of how the current tax code (specifically that of accelerated depreciation) has helped many of his co-investors with realized capital gains tax pain. One of the most bittersweet feelings in the world of wealth accumulation is realizing a large gain from a sale of a business, property, or other investment, but then getting the bill from the tax man. Listen and learn more about how this strategy can mitigate the bitter. It might even make it sweet. A sweeter-sweet moment! This is likely not something your typical CPA or advisor would be privy to, since it is such a unique situation. Unique but VERY impactful!
