The Restoration of the AltarAs psychologists know, when defenses are disrupted there is a period of real disorientation, accompanied by fear, guilt, and usually vacillation between anxiety and depression. 2The process discussed here is different only in that defenses are not being disrupted but reinterpreted, even though it may be experienced as the same thing.80 3In the reinterpretation of defenses, they are not disrupted, but their use for attack is lost. 4Since this means that they can be used only one way, they become much stronger and also much more dependable. 5They no longer oppose the Atonement, but greatly facilitate it.2 The Atonement can only be accepted within you. 2You may perceive it largely as external, and this will make your experience of it minimal. 3You can be shown the chalice without accepting it for yourself.81 4This is due to the improper use of the defense of externalization.82 5Do not fail to appreciate, however, how remarkable your progress can be in this respect. 6You may perceive the chalice at first as a vessel of some sort whose purpose is uncertain. 7Even then, however, you can notice that the inside is gold, while the outside, though shiny, is silver. 8This is a recognition of the fact that the inner part is more precious than the outer side, even though both are resplendent.3 The reinterpretation of defenses is essential to break open the inner light. 2Since the separation, defenses have been used almost entirely to defend yourself against the Atonement, and thus maintain your separation. 3You generally see this as a need to protect the body from external intrusion. 4Fantasies about the body arise from the erroneous belief that the body can be used as a means for obtaining Atonement.4 Perceiving the body as the temple is only the first step in correcting this kind of distortion.83 2Seeing the body as a temple alters part of the misperception, but not all of it. 3It does recognize that the concept of Atonement in physical terms is not appropriate. 4But the next step is to realize that a temple is not a building at all. 5Its real holiness lies in the inner altar around which the building is built.5 The inappropriate emphasis which people have put on beautiful church buildings is a sign of their own fear of Atonement, and an unwillingness to reach the altar itself. 2The real beauty of the temple cannot be seen with the physical eye. 3The spiritual eye, on the other hand, cannot see the building at all, but it perceives the altar within with perfect clarity. 4This is because the spiritual eye has perfect vision.6 For perfect effectiveness, the chalice of the Atonement belongs at the center of the inner altar, where it undoes the separation and restores the wholeness of the mind. 2Before the separation, the mind was invulnerable to fear, because fear did not exist. 3Both the separation and the fear were miscreations of the mind, which have to be undone. 4This is what the Bible means by the restoration of the temple.84 5It does not mean the restoration of the building, but it does mean the opening of the altar to receive the Atonement. 6This heals the separation, and places within you the one defense against all errors which can make you perfectly invulnerable.7 The acceptance of the Atonement by everyone is only a matter of time. 2In fact, both time and matter were made for this purpose. 3This appears to contradict free will, because of the inevitability of the decision. 4If you review the idea carefully, however, you will realize that this is not true. 5Everything is limited in some way by the manner of its creation. 6Free will can temporize and is capable of enormous procrastination. 7But it cannot depart entirely from its Creator, Who sets limits on its ability to miscreate by virtue of its own real purpose.8 The misuse of will engenders a situation which, in the extreme, becomes altogether intolerable. 2Pain thresholds can be high, but they are not limitless. 3Eventually, everybody begins to recognize, however dimly, that there must be a better way.85 4As this recognition is more firmly established, it becomes a perceptual turning point. 5This ultimately reawakens the spiritual eye, simultaneously weakening the investment in physical sight. 6The alternating investment in the two types or levels of perception is usually experienced as conflict for a long time, and can become very acute. 7But the outcome is as certain as God.9 The spiritual eye literally cannot see error, and merely looks for Atonement. 2All of the solutions which the physical eyes seek dissolve in its sight. 3The spiritual eye, which looks within, recognizes immediately that the altar has been defiled and needs to be repaired and protected. 4Perfectly aware of the right defense, it passes over all others, looking past error to truth. 5Because of the real strength of its vision, it pulls the will into its own service and forces the mind to concur.10 This reestablishes the true power of the will, and makes it increasingly unable to tolerate delay. 2The mind then realizes, with growing certainty, that delay is only a way of increasing unnecessary pain, which it need not tolerate at all. 3The pain threshold drops accordingly, and the mind becomes increasingly sensitive to what it would once have regarded as very minor intrusions of discomfort.11 The children of God are entitled to perfect comfort, which comes from a sense of perfect trust. 2Until they achieve this, they will waste themselves and their true creative powers on useless attempts to make themselves more comfortable by inappropriate means. 3But the real means is already provided, and does not involve any effort on their part at all. 4Their egocentricity usually misinterprets this as personally insulting, an interpretation which obviously arises from their misperception of themselves. 5Egocentricity and communion cannot coexist. 6Even the terms themselves are contradictory.8612 The Atonement is the only gift which is worthy of being offered to the altar of God. 2This is because of the inestimable value of the altar itself. 3It was created perfect and is entirely worthy of receiving perfection. 4God is lonely without His Sons, and they are lonely without Him. 5Remember the poem which begins:6And God stepped out on space,And he looked around and said,“I’m lonely—I’ll make me a world.”877The world was a way of healing the separation, and the Atonement is the guarantee that the device will ultimately do so.88

Teaching NotesThe Igniting of Acts 2 Revolution On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1:4-5 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:7-8This quite ludicrous at first glance. When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:1-4The Outline of the Book of Acts Jerusalem 1:1-6:7 - So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith. Acts 6:7Judea & Samaria 6:8-9:31 - Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers. Acts 9:31Coastlands & Syria 9:32-12:24 - But the word of God continued to spread and flourish. Acts 12:24Cyprus & Galatia 12:25-16:5 - So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers. Acts 16:5Macedonia, Achaia, Asia 16:6-19:20 - In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power. Acts 19:20Rome 19:21-28:31 – He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance! “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed.”  Matthew 8:8This familiar phrase is repeated every time we prepare to go to Holy Communion.  It’s a statement of great humility and trust from the Roman Centurion who asked Jesus to heal his servant from a distance.Jesus is impressed with this man’s faith stating that “in no one in Israel have I found such faith.”  This man’s faith is worth pondering as a model for our own faith.First, let’s look at his humility.  The centurion acknowledges that he is “not worthy” to have Jesus come to his home.  This is true.  None of us are worthy of such a great grace.  The home that this spiritually refers to is our soul.  We are not worthy of Jesus coming to our souls so as to make His dwelling there.  At first this may be hard to accept.  Are we really not worthy of this?  Well, no, we are not.  That’s just the fact.It’s important to know this to be the case so that, in this humble realization, we can also acknowledge that Jesus chooses to come to us anyway.  Recognizing our unworthiness should do nothing other than fill us with great gratitude at the fact that Jesus comes to us in this humble state.  This man was justified in the sense that God poured His grace on him for his humility.He also had great trust in Jesus.  And the fact that the centurion knew he was unworthy of such a grace makes his trust all the more sacred.  It’s sacred in that he knew he was unworthy but he also knew that Jesus loved him anyway and desired to come to him and heal his servant.This shows us that our trust in Jesus must not be based on whether or not we have a right to His presence in our lives, rather, it shows us that our trust is based on our knowledge of His infinite mercy and compassion.  When we see that mercy and compassion, we will be in a position to seek it out.  Again, we do this not because we have a right to it; rather, we do it because that’s what Jesus wants.  He wants us to seek out His mercy despite our unworthiness.Reflect, today, on your own humility and trust.  Can you pray this prayer with the same faith as the centurion?  Let him be a model for you especially every time you prepare to receive Jesus “under your roof” in Holy Communion.Lord, I am not worthy of You.  I am especially not worthy of receiving You in Holy Communion.  Help me to humbly recognize this fact and, in that humility, help me to also recognize the fact that You desire to come to me anyway.  Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2020 My Catholic Life! He reminds us that God does not want anyone to perish. He also talks about how we can respond to a global pandemic, by praying for our city and nation and the world. How we need to connect and encourage each other during these unprecedented times. And we need to help and serve people, being generous wherever possible, looking out for the most vulnerable people and those on the frontline.

“Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed.”  Mt. 8:8This familiar line is taken from the faith of a Roman centurion.  He asked Jesus to heal his servant, Jesus agrees to come cure him, and the centurion exclaims this profound faith in Jesus stating two things: 1) He’s not worthy of Jesus’ presence in his home and, 2) His confidence that Jesus can heal his servant simply by saying the word.  Jesus, of course, is quite impressed with this man’s faith and obliges him with the physical healing of his servant from a distance.  But Jesus does much more than a healing.  He also holds this man up as a model of faith for all.This beautiful statement of faith from the centurion is used within the Mass to speak of two matters of faith in regard to the Eucharist: 1) We are not worthy to receive Holy Communion and, 2) We invite Jesus anyway to come and heal our souls.Advent is a time when we especially ponder the great mystery of the Incarnation.  It’s a time when we especially ponder the mystery of God coming and dwelling with us in physical form.  Though this happened over two thousand years ago, it continues to take place at each and every Mass.  And at each and every Mass we are called to express the same faith as this Roman centurion.Reflect, today, upon your faith in the coming of Christ in the Most Holy Eucharist.  Each Mass is a manifestation of the God-Man who came to live among us and live within us.  If we but have the faith of this centurion, we, too, will be blessed by our God beyond measure.Lord, I do believe.  Help my unbelief.  Help me to see my unworthiness each time I prepare for Holy Communion.  And in that humble admission, may I also invite Your healing presence in my life.  Jesus, I trust in You.

I introduced my sermon with the following anecdote: “This actually did happen to a real person, and the real person is me. I had gone to catch a train. This was April 1976, in Cambridge, UK. I was a bit early for the train. I'd gotten the time of the train wrong. I went to get myself a newspaper to do the crossword, and a cup of coffee and a packet of eight cookies. I went and sat at a table. I want you to picture the scene. It's very important that you get this very clear in your mind. Here's the table, newspaper, cup of coffee, packet of cookies. There's a guy sitting opposite me, perfectly ordinary-looking guy wearing a business suit, carrying a briefcase. It didn't look like he was going to do anything weird. What he did was this: he suddenly leaned across, picked up the packet of cookies, tore it open, took one out, and ate it.Now this, I have to say, is the sort of thing the British are very bad at dealing with. There's nothing in our background, upbringing, or education that teaches you how to deal with someone who in broad daylight has just stolen your cookies. In the end I thought, Nothing for it, I'll just have to go for it, and I tried very hard not to notice the fact that the packet was already mysteriously opened. I took out a cookie for myself. I thought, That settled him. But it hadn't because a moment or two later he did it again. He took another cookie. Having not mentioned it the first time, it was somehow even harder to raise the subject the second time around.We went through the whole packet like this and it felt like a lifetime. He took one, I took one, he took one, I took one. Finally, when we got to the end, he stood up and walked away. Well, we exchanged meaningful looks, then he walked away, and I breathed a sigh of relief and sat back.A moment or two later the train was coming in, so I tossed back the rest of my coffee, stood up, picked up the newspaper, and underneath the newspaper were my cookies. The thing I like particularly about this story is the sensation that somewhere in England there has been wandering around for the last quarter-century a perfectly ordinary guy who's had the same exact story, only he doesn't have the punch line.”Two Names Matthew 1:18-23 & Luke 1:31Heather's devotional, yesterday, centered on the two names of Christ given to Joseph and Mary, recorded in Matthew and Luke. The two names are Jesus and Emmanuel. The Name Jesus refers to the personal name of God (Yahweh) and adds the verb for “to save” - translated Yeshua means Yahweh saves. The angel gives the explanation in that He will save His people from their sins. God is a personal Savior. The second name of Jesus, Emmanuel, explains how God will accomplish this. El is at the end of this name and is the generic reference to God (it is used in Scripture of false gods as well). The verb in this name is translated among us, meaning that He is the “among us God”. God personally saves by becoming the among us God. The gospel in two names.I would like to plumb the depths of these two names this morning, by looking at Christmas from a different perspective; namely God's. MacArthur called this passage the “theology of Christmas”, because it gives us a look behind the scenes, before Jesus is the helpless babe lying in a manger in Bethlehem.Two Humiliations Philippians 2:6-8This passage is called a Christ hymn and divides into two sections: 6-8 and 9-11. This first half is named His condescension. Jesus is introduced as God. Don't be distracted by the wording that Paul uses here. “In the form of God” is a reference to things that we do not understand: God is spirit (John 4) and therefore His nature is somewhat of a mystery to us. The Greek word makes reference to “the outward appearance of the true nature.” Make no mistake that Jesus is truly God. The text continues to explain that He did not consider His position and majesty as God as a thing to cling to and willingly emptied Himself of this glory in order to take on human form (same word: referring to human nature).The emptying of Christ might be illustrated in drawing a stick figure on paper. What might you have to give up in order to become part of a two-dimensional world in order to explain to stick figures that there is hope? Impossible and incomprehensible? Exactly… the transcendent Creator of all that we know became part of His creation in order to save us. Emmanuel.But He humbled Himself further by becoming obedient to his (parents first, but also) Father and submitted to death on the cross. Why? To save us from our sins… Jesus.Two Exaltations Philippians 2:9-11Because of this God, the Father exalted the Son and gave Him a Name above all names, with such authority and strength that every knee will bow at His Name. Every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. This Christ hymn began with Jesus Christ as God. The hymn ends with Jesus Christ revealed and acknowledged as Lord over all. In emptying Himself, Jesus Christ regained all glory and authority. That is the theology of Christmas. That is Christmas from God's perspective.Now, here is my closing thought. There will come a day that you acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord. Will you recognize Him as personal Savior from your sins? Or will you recognize Him in the end as the righteous Judge, who will judge your sins?How should you respond to this? Peter says is best in Acts: Repent of your sins and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Names and Titles of Jesus –  I Am the True Vine Episode 99 This series of the names and titles of Jesus will give us a more in-depth understanding of Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the eighth in the series. The following is an outline. I Am the True Vine John 15 (NIV) “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. • 5“ I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing. 6If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. "Under the crown– work was spread out a golden vine, with its branches hanging down from a great height, the largeness and the workmanship of which were an astonishing sight to the spectators" (Antiquities of the Jews, 5.5.4). 31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here.   ISERAL GOD’S VINE Genesis 49:22 Jacobs blessing to Joseph Isaiah 5 A love affair between God and His Vineyard the nation of Israel Isaiah 5 Something went wrong! Isaiah 27: 6 He shall cause them that come of Jacob to take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and fill the face of the world with fruit. Hosea 10:1 “Israel empties his vine; He brings forth fruit for himself…” 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,  and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. A Shadow THE TRUE VINE John 15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Against such things, there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. Before Jesus returned to heaven, He left us some parting words. His last command is Powerful. So powerful that it still give His followers the ability to be His messengers to our neighborhoods, cities and wherever we Go and share His Good News even to the ends of the earth. Amazing! He can use anyone who waits on His promised power. With His power we are totally recharged and ready to go and be, without that charge we will be weak and almost out of enthusiastic energy.A comparison that came to mind is my cell phone. I'm not into spending over $800 to have a smart phone, although the new gen smart phones are capable of doing what my laptop can do, it's incredible. But, almost everyday I get updates that need to be downloaded into the phone to help my apps function to it's fullest. The updates are set to automatic and I don't have to do anything extra after I set the options needed. But there is a catch. The phone must have enough power to download the updates. If the phone is less than 20% charged a message to plug-in my phone pops up. So, the downloads will not complete until I have enough battery power to receive the downloads, and on top of that there needs to be enough storage space to fit all the downloads to my internal storage. WoW! Do you see where this headed? The Lord has a Divine Download available. He Has the Power to give us and He makes room for our Internal Storage to Fit the Download as well. When these two options are not available 1)Power 2)Storage then it's time to stop and get Recharged. Our Spirit is Willing it's the flesh (Human) side of us that gets weak. I don't know about you but, I want the Full Download of the Holy Spirit to be Ready to Receive His Power to Be a Witness to my territory. Read Acts 1:8This should be the the Determined Purpose for All believers. Is it Your Determination? Are you a Follower of Jesus? If we try to Go and be Gods witnesses without a strong recharge from Holy Spirit God then we are setting ourselves up for disaster. If we try to be obedient to the Last command of Jesus without His Power than we are just religious people acting like we have Power but come up empty. So, what becomes the important piece to this message is our Relationship with God through the Holy Spirit. Jesus is The Word that was sent and Now we Have Him living on the inside and we need to recharge with His Charge. All other attempts to get it done is called legalism that will only cause a spark, when God is calling to be a Flame of Holy Fire to GO and Be. Great Commission! Matthew 28:16-2016 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. She takes them, strips the back, repaints them, makes them new and beautiful again. Right at this moment, God spoke to her heart and said “Sharon, that's what I wanna do with people”. So many people are hurt, have no hope, they're ready to give up but she knows that God was showing her that in the same way that she was restoring unwanted pieces of furniture, He wants to restore every person He has created, no matter where they've been or what they've done. If we allow Him to, He'll strip back those layers of hurt, unforgiveness, lack – because He sees enormous potential in each and every one of us.I really felt like He just wants to restore people – fully restored.
