We try to believe the best about people, even when they let us down. But when it comes to God, we sometimes hesitate, questioning what He's asking us to do.Maybe He's nudging you to give, to serve, to step outside your comfort zone. And maybe, like me, you wrestle with doubt. Is this really for my good? But if there's anyone whose intentions we can fully trust, it's God.“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.” —Psalm 40:4God's plans are always for our good.
Psalm 82 WorksheetAnother psalm of Asaph.God is the ______________________ judge over all other so called ‘gods' V. 1-2Verse 1 is so intriguing, and made more so in the Hebrew language, where the same Hebrew word Elohim (H430) is translated ‘God' at the beginning of the verse and ‘gods' at the end, with the word El (H410) in the middle translated ‘mighty.' It is a great reminder that the ______________________ a word appears in often forces our interpretive options. Anyone want to guess what the 4 interpretive options for “gods” at the end of verse 1might be?Whatever is meant by “gods” in verse 1, the point is clear – God is the Ultimate Judge over all of those who are put forward as rulers and judges over others. In the end those ________________________ ‘judges' will be judged by Him! God is a just judge, and God is angry with the wicked every day. -Ps. 7:11The one true God does not side with the wicked the way these bad rulers do; no, He will judge the unrepentant wicked and unrepentant evil rulers who let the wicked prosper under their wicked rule. What God ______________________ of ‘god-like' rulers V. 3-4God expects ‘godly' rulers to defend and deliver the most vulnerable among the people they rule. Who are among the most vulnerable according to verses 3-4?What are the 4 commands in verses 3-4?In the beautiful Torah of the first 5 books of the Bible, Genesis through Deuteronomy, caring for the most vulnerable among them was a consistent expectation of God's people. The message of the prophets was often a _________________________ of leaders and people alike for failing to lead well. Isaiah 1:16-20 In Psalm 82 God is kind of sarcastically rebuking those who fashion themselves god-like leaders of others! It's as if He says, “Some kind of ‘gods' you are! You judge unjustly, you favor the wicked, but you don't defend, deliver, and do justly toward those who need you to do those things the most!” God states the truth about ‘_______________________' gods V. 5-7In v. 5 God _____________ all godless idols, people, and the demons backing them as being truly ignorant, foolishly walking in darkness and destabilizing the earth the way Satan did in the Garden of Eden. Who do you think God is going after in verses 6-7?The true problem behind all false ‘gods' is _______________________!Isaiah 14:12-21 Ezekiel 28:11-19Note what verse 7 teaches – the Real God will _______________________ fall or die, but false rulers, false prophets, false gods, and false angels (demons) all will! John 10:31-39In John 10:34 Jesus cites Psalm 82:7 as He chastises the Pharisees for their pride and acting as the religious judges of Him. They were acting like ‘gods' and were even trying to ____________________ to death Jesus their true God. That's what pride does – misses worship of the one true God, and sets up god substitutes that allow all manner of sin to follow. The Psalmist ends with a prayer for God to rule on earth V. 8Verse 8 is a “a call back” to Psalm 2! Remember that Psalms 1-2 set the _____________________ for every Psalm that follows. Psalm 2 Questions?
Over eight weeks, we will consider the substance of the Lord's Prayer - prayerfully seeking to infuse that substance into our own prayers. We will seek to mold our prayers by our Lord's model prayer, communing with our Father God as Jesus himself did. This week, we explore 'Hallowed be your name...' from Matthew 6:9b.“Were we left to ourselves, any praying we did would both start and end with ourselves, for our natural self-centeredness knows no bounds.” - J.I. Packer“The holiness of God is the infinite distance between his deity and our humanity.” - - Philip RykenBefore we can hallow God's name, something must be done about our sin. hallow: verb; to make or reveal as holy Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. Psalm 24:3-4God's name in heaven is hallowedby our holy lives on earth.“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour'? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father, glorify your name.” John 27:27-28a“Hallowed be your name”is the only prayer we will pray forever. “When some of the other petitions shall be useless and out of date, as we shall not need to pray in heaven, ‘Give us our daily bread,' because there shall be no hunger; nor, ‘Forgive us our trespasses,' because there shall be no sin; nor, ‘Lead us not into temptation,' because the old serpent is not there to tempt; yet the hallowing of God's name will be of great use and request in heaven; we shall be ever singing hallelujahs, which is nothing else but the hallowing of God's name.” - Thomas WatsonPRAYER PROMPTSGod: Hallow your name in my actions.“For I am the LORD your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy.” Leviticus 11:44God: Hallow your name in my words.Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29God: Hallow your name in my thoughts. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Philippians 4:8 God: Hallow your name in my emotions. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct… 1 Peter 1:14-15 God: Hallow your name in my affections. As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? Do you sometimes feel stuck mourning a loss? In this message, Pastor Jamie will share how to deal with grief. Things I want you to know about grief:Grief is a normal, healthy response to loss, pain, and death.John 16:20aWater washes – in the natural we have to clean a wound. Think of crying as cleaning an emotional wound. There are two wrong ways to grieve: distraction and despair.1) Distraction is when we try to numb ourselves to how we feel. The problem is, you can't distract yourself out of grief. Feelings are meant to be felt. Talk it out with someone close to you or you'll take it out on someone close you.Proverbs 13:14Don't try to run from grief, instead run to God in your grief. 2) Despair is when grief becomes our identity.Psalm 31:10Don't wallow in your grief; worship in your grief and fight off despair. Christians follow Christ so we should grieve how Jesus grieved.Isaiah 53:3 John 11:35 "Jesus wept"How we grieve reveals what we believe. The best thing you can do for someone grieving is to just be there with them.Proverbs 18:13Grieving people don't need your mouth, they need your ears. God doesn't take away our grief—He adds good things to it.Antivenom doesn't remove the venom from the body, but bonds with the venom and causes it to no longer be harmful. God will add things to your life like "anti-grief" so that the grief won't harm you. Four things God will add to your grief:1. Peace.Philippians 4:6-7Thankfulness requires that you don't lose perspective on what you already have in order to receive something else. You can grieve and have peace at the same time, if you invite the Lord into your grief. 2. Joy.John 16:20Don't ask why, ask who. 3. Comfort.Matthew 5:4When you are grieving, you are now in a unique position to experience God in a way you've never experienced Him before.2 Corinthians 1:3-4God's comfort is an inexhaustible resource. When you give it away, you still keep it.4. Hope.1 Thessalonians 4:13-14If Jesus were to come back tonight, you'd get a front row seat to your loved-ones' resurrection. While walking through grief, face East. Almost every grave in every cemetery in the US is facing east. Why? Because Jesus will come back in the East. People are buried facing and expecting their resurrection. As you walk through grief, face East—expect the promise of Jesus to come true for you and those you've lost. Don't give up hope. Don't give into despair. Face East. How are you dealing with grief?

Have you heard the story about the Sheriff of Bergen County that was convicted, but became a priest? Father Joe Ciconne is that man. He is an incredible man who has lived a fascinating life. Father Joe was born in New Jersey. His dad was a police officer, and he eventually followed in his dad's footsteps. His dad was actually his boss in their precinct when he first began. He spent over 20 years in law enforcement and also taught as a professor social science/criminal justice. Father Joe was eventually elected Sheriff to the largest county of New Jersey...Bergen County... as a long shot candidate in a special election. Father Joe began making impactful change immediately that clearly ruffled the feathers of the old establishment. He was commanding nearly 500 law enforcement officers, managing a budget of over $40 million. Father Joe was investigated for illegal campaign fund raising and he eventually was forced to resign with his conviction. How Father Joe became a priest and the knockdowns and grit it took to stand back up and get what he was passionate about is what inspiring movies are made of. This is a good man helping so many people with their second chances. Father Joe is my kind of Priest! Genesis 1:1-31 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3And God said, Let there be light, and there was light. 4God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light day, and the darkness he called night. And there was evening, and there was morning the first day. 6And God said, Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water. 7So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. 8God called the vault sky. And there was evening, and there was morning the second day. 9And God said, Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear. And it was so. 10God called the dry ground land, and the gathered waters he called seas. And God saw that it was good. 11Then God said, Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds. And it was so. 12The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13And there was evening, and there was morning the third day. 14And God said, Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth. And it was so. 16 God made two great lights the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19And there was evening, and there was morning the fourth day. 20And God said, Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky. 21So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22God blessed them and said, Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth. 23And there was evening, and there was morning the fifth day. 24And God said, Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind. And it was so. 25God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 26Then God said, Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground. 27So God created mankind in his own image,in the image of God he created them;male and female he created them. 28God blessed them and said to them, Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground. 29 Then God said, I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in itI give every green plant for food. And it was so. 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morningthe sixth day. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/shcc/message

Be Strong series message 12Text: Proverbs 15:4God's Word has much to say about the power of words - our sermon theme from Proverbs for this Sunday! A wise person knows the weight of his or her words and uses them accordingly. With our tongue we either bless God or curse our fellow man - let's be sure to bless God AND build one another up with our words! Our words have such tremendous capability to destroy or give life.
Isaiah - the Vision - Part Three: “Effective Grace” Isaiah 30:18-26 Four Effects of God's Grace:1. Compassion - He demonstrates compassion in his waiting! Earlier Isaiah realizes that he must wait and trust:Is. 8:16-17 He can't dispense grace without their recognition of their rebellion, but there is always a remnant who are waiting and trusting in the Lord as evidenced in Isaiah 8:16-17.To be given time to repent is a great mercy which should be grasped with profound gratitude: Romans 2:4God does not want anyone to parish: 2 Pet 3:8-9 2. Comfort - He comforts through answered prayer. After punishing Israel God will once again bless them: Isaiah 40:2God's judgment is tempered by grace and ultimately fulfilled through the cross of Christ: Col. 1:21-22 3. Clarity - He is recognized as their teacher. Because of judgment their eyes and ears will be opened to what it is he has been trying to say: Isaiah 26:9God's Spirit will guide us: John 16:13We are defined by who we follow: Rom 8:14The casting away of idols is the natural consequence of a vibrant relationship with God; For idols speak of divided loyalties: Ex. 20:3 4. Covenant Blessing Restored If chapter 1 refers to the devastation caused by Assyria's invasion, this present passage refers to the restored covenant blessing promised in Dt. 28:11-12 Remember first comes Judgment and then the blessing: Isaiah 1:7The outpouring of creation's bounty speaks, of the end of sin and the curse and of the return Eden: Amos 9:13When the towers of Judah's pride are smashed, she may expect a new era of unbelievable fruitfulness: Isaiah 2:12-17Instead of the darkness of despair, uncertainty and sin, and the misery of the pains resulting from running into God in the darkness, there will be perfect clarity and the tender ministry of the Father bandaging our wounds and bruises: Isaiah 60:19-20 Support the show
Grasp God's Word By Reading, Studying, Meditating, Memorizing And Applying It To Our Lives Hebrews 2:1 - 4 Warning to Pay Attention 1We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2For since the message spoken through angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3how shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. 4God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

A very good morning to you! It is Monday morning, a new week - the 25th of April, 2022. And this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.Just one verse this morning... Jesus says:“I have glorified You on the earth. (He is talking to His Father) I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.”John 17:4God is not interested in good starters, He is only interested in good finishers. We need to finish the task that has been set before us by our Lord. I remember when I was actively farming, sometimes I would prepare the land and prepare a beautiful crop of corn (maize) and tend it with tender loving care. Then a drought would come and the maize would start taking strain, it would start twisting. It would start looking like onions. And I thought a potential disaster was on its way. Some of my neighbours in the past have put the plough in and said, “We will start over again.” But I felt, “No, I must finish what I have started.” And I tended it and I looked after it as best I could and yes, the rain came and the crop grew. Often, it was the best crop that I had ever planted because no one else had any corn and the price went up so we got a good price for our crop. But I finished the job. We need to finish the job that the Lord gives to us.I just watched something, the 1992 Olympic Games, and I want to tell you something now, I sat there with tears in my eyes. A runner, a 400-metre runner, at the Olympic Games at the top of his game. What an occasion to be selected by your country to run in the Olympic Games - Derek Redmond. The race started, the gun went off and the runners were running. They were so fleet at foot, it was an amazing thing to watch and then halfway through the race, he must have pulled his muscle in his leg and he went down on the track... he lay there in a crumpled heap. It was devastating, a massive crowd, television right around the world, watching this young man. The next thing, we see a figure coming out of the crowd, running across the track. Yes, it was his dad, picking him up... Oh folks, picking him up, putting his arm around his neck and starting to carry him to the finish-line.The officials ran across the track, trying to tell his dad to go and sit down. He pushed them aside. “Leave me. I am finishing the race with my son.” A potential tragedy turned out to be, probably, one of the most memorable incidents in the entire history of the Olympic Games. Why, because he came first? No, not at all, he came last actually. He walked across the finish line... He didn't even walk, he hobbled across, arm in arm with his dad. Oh, what an occasion folks, it makes me want to cry. You see, it is not how you start, it is how you finish. He would not stop and his dad supported him all the way, he fought off the officials and finished the race.I want to say to you, today, get up and finish your race. Hosea 11:1-4God's Love for Israel11 “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son.2 But the more they were called, the more they went away from me.They sacrificed to the Baals and they burned incense to images.3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk, taking them by the arms;but they did not realize it was I who healed them.4 I led them with cords of human kindness, with ties of love.To them I was like one who lifts a little child to the cheek, and I bent down to feed them.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/yourdailybible)

We glorify God when we learn to rest in the fact that He has saved us.Key Verse: "Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father..." Galatians 1:3-4God has delivered us:1. By His grace through Christ (Gal 1:3-4a)2. According to His will (Gal 1:1,4b)3. For His glory (Gal 1:5)
VI. The Restoration of the AltarAs psychologists know, when defenses are disrupted there is a period of real disorientation, accompanied by fear, guilt, and usually vacillation between anxiety and depression. 2The process discussed here is different only in that defenses are not being disrupted but reinterpreted, even though it may be experienced as the same thing.80 3In the reinterpretation of defenses, they are not disrupted, but their use for attack is lost. 4Since this means that they can be used only one way, they become much stronger and also much more dependable. 5They no longer oppose the Atonement, but greatly facilitate it.2 The Atonement can only be accepted within you. 2You may perceive it largely as external, and this will make your experience of it minimal. 3You can be shown the chalice without accepting it for yourself.81 4This is due to the improper use of the defense of externalization.82 5Do not fail to appreciate, however, how remarkable your progress can be in this respect. 6You may perceive the chalice at first as a vessel of some sort whose purpose is uncertain. 7Even then, however, you can notice that the inside is gold, while the outside, though shiny, is silver. 8This is a recognition of the fact that the inner part is more precious than the outer side, even though both are resplendent.3 The reinterpretation of defenses is essential to break open the inner light. 2Since the separation, defenses have been used almost entirely to defend yourself against the Atonement, and thus maintain your separation. 3You generally see this as a need to protect the body from external intrusion. 4Fantasies about the body arise from the erroneous belief that the body can be used as a means for obtaining Atonement.4 Perceiving the body as the temple is only the first step in correcting this kind of distortion.83 2Seeing the body as a temple alters part of the misperception, but not all of it. 3It does recognize that the concept of Atonement in physical terms is not appropriate. 4But the next step is to realize that a temple is not a building at all. 5Its real holiness lies in the inner altar around which the building is built.5 The inappropriate emphasis which people have put on beautiful church buildings is a sign of their own fear of Atonement, and an unwillingness to reach the altar itself. 2The real beauty of the temple cannot be seen with the physical eye. 3The spiritual eye, on the other hand, cannot see the building at all, but it perceives the altar within with perfect clarity. 4This is because the spiritual eye has perfect vision.6 For perfect effectiveness, the chalice of the Atonement belongs at the center of the inner altar, where it undoes the separation and restores the wholeness of the mind. 2Before the separation, the mind was invulnerable to fear, because fear did not exist. 3Both the separation and the fear were miscreations of the mind, which have to be undone. 4This is what the Bible means by the restoration of the temple.84 5It does not mean the restoration of the building, but it does mean the opening of the altar to receive the Atonement. 6This heals the separation, and places within you the one defense against all errors which can make you perfectly invulnerable.7 The acceptance of the Atonement by everyone is only a matter of time. 2In fact, both time and matter were made for this purpose. 3This appears to contradict free will, because of the inevitability of the decision. 4If you review the idea carefully, however, you will realize that this is not true. 5Everything is limited in some way by the manner of its creation. 6Free will can temporize and is capable of enormous procrastination. 7But it cannot depart entirely from its Creator, Who sets limits on its ability to miscreate by virtue of its own real purpose.8 The misuse of will engenders a situation which, in the extreme, becomes altogether intolerable. 2Pain thresholds can be high, but they are not limitless. 3Eventually, everybody begins to recognize, however dimly, that there must be a better way.85 4As this recognition is more firmly established, it becomes a perceptual turning point. 5This ultimately reawakens the spiritual eye, simultaneously weakening the investment in physical sight. 6The alternating investment in the two types or levels of perception is usually experienced as conflict for a long time, and can become very acute. 7But the outcome is as certain as God.9 The spiritual eye literally cannot see error, and merely looks for Atonement. 2All of the solutions which the physical eyes seek dissolve in its sight. 3The spiritual eye, which looks within, recognizes immediately that the altar has been defiled and needs to be repaired and protected. 4Perfectly aware of the right defense, it passes over all others, looking past error to truth. 5Because of the real strength of its vision, it pulls the will into its own service and forces the mind to concur.10 This reestablishes the true power of the will, and makes it increasingly unable to tolerate delay. 2The mind then realizes, with growing certainty, that delay is only a way of increasing unnecessary pain, which it need not tolerate at all. 3The pain threshold drops accordingly, and the mind becomes increasingly sensitive to what it would once have regarded as very minor intrusions of discomfort.11 The children of God are entitled to perfect comfort, which comes from a sense of perfect trust. 2Until they achieve this, they will waste themselves and their true creative powers on useless attempts to make themselves more comfortable by inappropriate means. 3But the real means is already provided, and does not involve any effort on their part at all. 4Their egocentricity usually misinterprets this as personally insulting, an interpretation which obviously arises from their misperception of themselves. 5Egocentricity and communion cannot coexist. 6Even the terms themselves are contradictory.8612 The Atonement is the only gift which is worthy of being offered to the altar of God. 2This is because of the inestimable value of the altar itself. 3It was created perfect and is entirely worthy of receiving perfection. 4God is lonely without His Sons, and they are lonely without Him. 5Remember the poem which begins:6And God stepped out on space,And he looked around and said,“I’m lonely—I’ll make me a world.”877The world was a way of healing the separation, and the Atonement is the guarantee that the device will ultimately do so.88
THE WEEK OF EPIPHANY IV - MONDAYLESSON: JOHN 15:18-27Whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. 1 John 5:4God so arranges matters that our faith is not called upon to concern itself with unimportant matters, but with matter which exceed the competence of all men, matters such as death, sin, the world, and the devil. There is no one in the whole world who can withstand death. All men flee from death and quake in terror before it. Nevertheless, they are overtaken by death. But faith remains firm and stands up against death which gobbles up the whole world. It conquers death and devours this ravenous glutton. So also, the whole world cannot constrain or suppress the flesh. It is in control of the whole world and what it wills must happen, so that the whole world is fleshly. But faith takes hold of the flesh and subdues it. Faith bridles the flesh into obedience.Similarly, no man can endure the raging, persecution, blasphemy, reproach, hatred, and jealousy of the world. Every man gives way and becomes exhausted. The world gains the upper hand and carries off the victory. It makes a mockery of faith and treads it under foot, and even finds joy and pleasure in all this.Faith alone is the victory that overcomes the world.SL.XI.499,4AE 76,284PRAYER: We know, O Christ, that by your glorious resurrection from the dead you have conquered and destroyed death as far as we are concerned. Keep us ever mindful of this truth, especially in the hour of death and amidst the ragings of the world. Amen.
Isaiah 35:3-4God's way is holiness.1. Holiness is a fight (1 Tim. 6:12)2. Holiness has foes (1 John 2:15)3. Holiness requires faith (Heb. 12:3)
THE WEEK OF EPIPHANY II - TUESDAYLESSON: GALATIANS 5:22-25Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Philippians 4:4God is not concerned about external matters like a marriage, provided that faith and love remain and, as has been stated, moderation is practiced, as is fitting for every estate. For the marriage at Cana, although it was a poor and lowly affair, still had three tables. This is clear from the mention of the “steward of the feast,” who usually had charge of three tables. The bridegroom did not attend to these but had his servants. They also had wine to drink. All this could well have been dispensed with on considerations of poverty, as happens also among us. The guests here at Cana, moreover, did not just allay their thirst with the wine, for the steward of the feast remarks that the good wine should be served first and afterwards “when men have drunk freely, then the poor wine.” John 2:10.Christ lets all this pass, and we should also let it pass and not cause men conscientious scruples on this score. They were not children of the devil, even if some of them exceeded the needs of quenching their thirst and became merry. Otherwise you will have to reckon it as a fault in Christ that He was the cause of this with His gift, and also His mother who requested it. Eventually we will reach the position that both Christ and His mother were sinners here if the saints who can only see what is sour are to judge the matter.SL.XI.466,8AE 76, 241PRAYER: Preserve us from a judgmental spirit, O God, which sees nothing but sin in what our fellowmen are doing, and overlooks the fact that your children are not only permitted to rejoice, but commanded to rejoice in Christ their Savior. Amen.
Matthew 5:1-3 (NLT) 1One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, 2and he began to teach them. 3“God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. 4God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth. 6God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied. 7God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8God blesses those whose hearts are pure, for they will see God. 9God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God. 10God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. 11“God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. 12Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.

If you could see my home right now, you would just turn around and walk right back out. Let me just tell you that we have plastic in our living room hanging from the ceiling to floor taped on both the ceiling and the floor. The floor is covered, the furniture is covered, and we are tearing things down. We are building things up, we are throwing things away, and we are bringing new things into the house. It honestly looks like a war zone because of how chaotic things like right now. Here's the thing: my husband and I purchased our house 12 years ago knowing we were purchasing a bit of a fixer-upper.So we knew that about once a year, maybe once every couple of years, we would tackle a really big project. Well, we let a couple of years go by and we had a few big projects that we wanted to tackle. So we decided that we were just going to pull the plug and do it and then we found out that we needed seven piers under our home. Everything is just crazy right now and there is no relaxing in our home right now. I was thinking about how ironic it is that in the middle of a year that kind of resembles a war zone that has all of us anxious and unable to relax, difficulty finding peace; that my house sort of seems to mirror that. As I was thinking about this the other day, I remembered Philippians 1:6 which says:"being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." - Philippians 1:6In all honesty, my house is not bothering me all that much. You know why? I'm focused on the finished product. Because when all the tearing down and redoing is over, something beautiful will be there. I can promise you that when all is said and done with the pandemic, with the rioting/political unrest or with fill in the blank, God is doing a good work here in you and in our world. So let's focus on what's to come. There is a beautiful passage tucked in the very end of the Bible in Revelation Chapter 22, and it says this:"No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads." - Revelations 22:3-4God is doing something beautiful in you and in creation. Let's focus on that today.
This week Michael is back on the podcast, and makes Brent guess the movie based off it's 1-star review on Amazon. Then, Brent gets further into the 10 Key Truths to Understanding the “Whoever” Salvation that Jesus Provided he mentioned on Sunday:God does not will for any person to perishSo it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. - Matthew 18:14The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. - 2 Peter 3:9God sent his Son to be the Savior of all peopleFor God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16God desires all people to be saved[God our Savior] who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. - 1 Timothy 2:4God purposes to show mercy to all peopleFor God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all. - Romans 11:32God is not partial in gifting his salvation to peopleSo Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality.” - Acts 10:34Jesus fully satisfied God’s wrath toward the sins of all peopleHe is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. - 1 John 2:2 Jesus, through his crucifixion, is drawing all people to himselfAnd I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself. - John 12:32Salvation by grace is available for all who believeFor the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people - Titus 2:11For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9God’s will and human will both play a part in salvationO Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not! - Luke 13:34A person can reject God’s purpose for their life...but the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him. - Luke 7:30Working together with him, then we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain. - 2 Cor. 6:1Finally, if you have questions you'd like for Brent to answer, just email them to michael@citipointchurch.com
In today's world life can seem unfair. This current season of life may have created circumstances for you that are just unfair. You may have financial pressures, relationship pressures, decisions and to make and bills to pay, you may wonder when you can go to church again. And then you see others out there able to do things that you can't do and you think this is so unfair.Let me remind you that even though life can seem just unfair, The Grace of God is also unfair. Because God does not give you what you deserve he gives you what you cannot obtain. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 For no person will be justified (made righteous, acquitted, and judged acceptable) in His sight by works prescribed by the Law. For the righteousness of God is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3:20-24 The Bible is filled with unfair beginnings and Grace Endings.– It wasn't fair for Abraham to offer up his only son Isaac. But in offering up his only son Isaac, God offered up his only son to redeem us back to himself. It wasn't fair for Joseph to be sold into slavery, however God showed him favor and blessed all the works of his hand until he became second in command in Egypt and saved his family. Joseph says, what you meant for evil against me, God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. Genesis 50:20 –It wasn't fair for Moses to be born at the time when the order was given to kill all children. However, God use Moses to deliver his people out of bondage. It wasn't fair for Jabez to be namedby his mother pain. But Jabez called on the God saying, Oh, That You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that you would keep me from evil, that may not cause pain! 1 Chronicles 4:9-10It wasn't fair for Jesus to bear your sin that and paid the penalty for your sins. For our sake He made Christ virtually to be sin Who knew no sin, so that in and through Him we might become endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of the righteousness of God what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness. 2 Corinthians 5:21God's grace is greater then the unfairness you may find your life and situation today. Each of the persons above thought very similarly to what you think about your life. However, when you see what God intended then you know that God has a plan and a purpose for your life to bring you out and make you greater then you can even think hope ask or imagine because faith his purpose and plan for your life.Listen, God knows the things that you have need of. And he has a plan to get them to you. He supplies all your needs, he knows what they are before you knew what they were. And he knew what your situation would be today before you were ever born. Ephesians 1:4th fellowship he chose you in Christ before the foundation of the world. That means the the Father Called you to be his child before the foundation of the war. And he's a good good fall so he provides for all your needs and he knows how to get what you need to you even if he has to created for you. Ephesians 1:4God's grace and goodness will rewrite your life like it did in the lives of the Saints of old. In each one of their lives he rewrote the script of their current situation, and brought them out to a greater position than they could've drink. What God wants you know is that your infirmities that you're going through right now does not identify you, but that he will take it and turn it for the good and conference you, so you can comfort others in their hardships and tribulations with the comfort with which you yourself have been contacted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:4When God brings you through your life situation he gives you a testimony, and your testimony gives you a place of authority of the goodness and grace of God to encourage and comfort others who may have lost hope.Remember what Joseph concluded from his situation. What the enemy meant for all, God takes it and blesses you to make you a blessing to others. So don't let life circumstances discourage you, know that God is directing you your destiny to accomplish his purposes.A man's mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure. The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Man's steps are ordered by the Lord.Proverbs 16:9, Ps. 37:23; Prov. 20:24
DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK:WHEN GOD GETS YOU IN A JAMSunday, June 14, 2020Sometimes God gets us out of a jam we got ourselves into. There are other times God gets you in a jam so He can show Himself mighty and reveal His Glory.Exodus 14:1-4God positions Israel between two mountains, with the Red Sea in front of them. God was about to use an impossible situation to reveal His glory!Israel “wandering in wilderness” was not wandering at all. These are just a few texts that foreshadow specifically the crucifixion. The completepervasiveness of this theme throughout the OT should show us how absolutely central it is. Wedo well to determine with Paul to know nothing but Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. It shouldalso lead us to worship a God who is so wise, a God who we find constantly in His word"declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, 'Mycounsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose."Isaiah 46:10[The format of what follows is basically notes for something I was going to present verbally, so itmay not be entirely coherent]1. "I will put enmity between you [the serpent] and the woman, and between your offspringand her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel." (Spokeninterestingly to Satan- CD Col 2, where Christ triumphs over him)Genesis 3:152. First death in OT. "And the Lord God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skinsand clothed them." Genesis 3:21(Then a WHOLE lot of death cf Gen 5. "And he died, and he died, and he died. Theproblem from/curse of sin=death. The last enemy 1 Cor 15)3. Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. Make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outwith pitch Gen 6:14 ( כפר Co-fair= ATONEMENT/Ransom. Cf Lev 16 Yom kippur(Hebrew word roots based on Vowels. Eg verbal form of atonement used repeatedly lev16.Noah escaped God's judgment by taking refuge in the ark (Christ) covered with ATONEMENT.Also, the ark landed on the mountains of Ararat (curse reversed) 3 days after passover (the dayof the resurrection- Easter) before the calendar was changed."in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on themountains of Ararat" Gen 8:4God changes the Hebrew Calendar in Ex 12(See speaker's commentary)Cf. Moses in the basket covered with כפר4. "Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and took some of every clean animal and some ofevery clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar."Gen 8:205. Gen 15- God makes a covenant with Abraham and passes through animals that havebeen cut in half alone signifying that he alone takes on the responsibility of seeing to theFulfillment of this Covenant and will bear the consequences if it is broken by either party.E.g., He will be killed like these animals6. Gen 22 sacrifice of Isaac. Cf Heb 11.7. Gen 37-45 Joseph betrayed by his brothers."Then they took Joseph’s robe and slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood."Gen 37:31"Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is calledFaithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like aflame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no oneknows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which heis called is The Word of God."Revelation 19:11-13His father thinks he is dead- turns out, he is alive (resurrection). "And they told him[Jacob] “Joseph is still alive, and he is ruler over all the land of Egypt.”He has been exalted as ruler in Egypt and by being betrayed and sold by his brothers, hassaved Egypt, his brothers and his fathers whole house.8. Ex 2- Moses in the basket (*literally, "ark")"When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes anddaubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds bythe river bank."Exodus 2:3(Side note: water, especially oceans/big bodies of it , very often represent evil. E.g.chaos/de-creation/obstacles to God's people/God's enemies. Cf creation, Noah, Mosesin the nile, Red sea, Jordan (Joshua and Elijah/Elisha), Nile, Peter walking on it &sinkingCf Several times in Isaiah, eg:"Ah, the thunder of many peoples; they thunder like the thundering of the sea! And Moses did so, in the sightof the elders of Israel."Exodus 17:6"For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and allpassed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and allate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from thespiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ."1 Corinthians 10:1-4CF "Rock of Ages"11. "The next day Moses said to the people, "You have sinned a great sin. And now I willgo up to the Lord ; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin." So Mosesreturned to the Lord and said, "Alas, this people has sinned a great sin. They havemade for themselves gods of gold. But now, if you will forgive their sin—but if not, please blot me out of your book that you have written." But the Lord said to Moses,"Whoever has sinned against me, I will blot out of my book."Exodus 32:30-3312. Leviticus: Sin OfferingsHave to do with a) sin, b) atonement c) forgiveness. We read over and over:"Thus shall he do with the bull. As he did with the bull of the sin offering, so shall he dowith this. And the priest shall make atonement for them, and they shall be forgiven. And he shall carry the bull outside the camp and burn it up as he burned the first bull; itis the sin offering for the assembly.Lev 4:20-21Specifically a formula repeated with minor changes: " and the priest shall makeatonement for him for his sin and he shall be forgiven"-Lev 4:20, 26, 31, 35.5:6, 10, 13, 16, 186:713. Day of Atonement. Lev 16Why is atonement made for inanimate objects? SIN"Thus he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleannesses of thepeople of Israel and because of their transgressions, all their sins. And so he shall do forthe tent of meeting, which dwells with them in the midst of their uncleannesses."" For on this day shall atonement be made for you to cleanse you. You shall be cleanbefore the Lord from all your sins.""And this shall be a statute forever for you, that atonement may be made for the peopleof Israel once in the year because of all their sins.".Leviticus 16:16, 30, 3414. Num 21- The Brass Serpent"From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land ofEdom. And the people became impatient on the way. And the people spoke against Godand against Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food." Then the Lordsent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people ofIsrael died. And the people came to Moses and said, "We have sinned, for we havespoken against the Lord and against you. Pray to the Lord , that he take away theserpents from us." So Moses prayed for the people. And the Lord said to Moses, "Makea fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shalllive." So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone,he would look at the bronze serpent and live."Numbers 21:4-9"And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be liftedup, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but haveeternal life."John 3:14-1615. "And if a man has committed a crime punishable by death and he is put to death, andyou hang him on a tree, his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall buryhim the same day, for a hanged man is cursed by God. You shall not defile your landthat the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance."Deuteronomy 21:22-23Cf. "For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed beeveryone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them."Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for "The righteous shalllive by faith." But the law is not of faith, rather "The one who does them shall live bythem." Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for itis written, "Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree"— so that in Christ Jesus theblessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promisedSpirit through faith.Galatians 3:10-14God's providence: Jew's mostly stoned ppl. Roman's killed by crucifixion16. Judges: Samson, with arms stretched out, defeats his enemies through death"Then Samson called to the Lord and said, "O Lord God , please remember me and pleasestrengthen me only this once, O God, that I may be avenged on the Philistines for my two eyes."And Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and he leaned hisweight against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other. And Samson said,"Let me die with the Philistines." Then he bowed with all his strength, and the house fell uponthe Lords and upon all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death weremore than those whom he had killed during his life."Judges 16:28-3017. David after the census ( the actual events here are obviously different because he wasbeing punished for his own sins but the sentiment is similar in what he says)Then David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel who was striking the people, andsaid, "Behold, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly. But these sheep, what have theydone? Please let your hand be against me and against my father's house."2 Samuel 24:1718. Esther- Hamaan tries to kill Mordecai, and is hung on the very gallows that wereconstructed for Mordecai (satan will experience eternal death. He was defeqted when hetried to defeat Christ through death- Col 2)Now just a run through:19. Job- the righteous sufferer20. Many of the PsalmsEspecially *Psalm 22*- quoted by Jesus on the cross (Well known)Psalm 41Ps 59Psalm 8821. Isaiah 6 cf Jn 12. Jesus is on the throne. The coal burns Isaiah's lip and he is told thathis sin has been "atoned" for.Isaiah 53. VERY CLEAR. Incredible. (Tons of things about Jesus in Isaiah, just thesetexts focus most on the 'cross'/atonement.22. Jer 31 (indirectly) Hebrews 8 and 10 tie the blessings of the New Covenant directly toChrist's sacrifice on the cross. CF Ezek 3623. Jonah- His being in the belly of the Whale 3 days/nights foreshadows Christ. Christ says"Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered him, saying, "Teacher, we wish tosee a sign from you." But he answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation seeksfor a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For just asJonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son ofMan be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."Matthew 12:38-4024. Now muster your troops, O daughter of troops; siege is laid against us; with a rod theystrike the judge of Israel on the cheek. But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are toolittle to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to beruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days. Therefore he shallgive them up until the time when she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of hisbrothers shall return to the people of Israel.Micah 5:1-3 (Cont through 6)[note many of these passages have immediate filaments in events that took placearound the Times these prophets wrote, but these events were themselves types ofChrist CF Hosea 11:1]25. Zechariah 3- Joshua the high priest, bearing Israel's guilt via dirty clothes:Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord , andSatan standing at his right hand to accuse him. And the Lord said to Satan, "The Lordrebuke you, O Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this abrand plucked from the fire?" Now Joshua was standing before the angel, clothed withfilthy garments. And the angel said to those who were standing before him, "Remove thefilthy garments from him." And to him he said, "Behold, I have taken your iniquity awayfrom you, and I will clothe you with pure vestments." And I said, "Let them put a cleanturban on his head." So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him withgarments. And the angel of the Lord was standing by.Zechariah 3:1-5"And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit ofgrace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they havepierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly overhim, as one weeps over a firstborn.Zechariah 12:10 (Quoted of Christ in Jn 19:37)
Increasing, Succeeding & Prospering Leon Fontaine November 10, 2019 The church of Jesus Christ is to be equipping the saints for the work of the ministry.Ministry is not just speaking at church, your ministry could be politics or education, building, carpentry, movies, or dance. Every area can bring glory to God! There is a power from God that energizes us andempowers us, it makes us creative and we begin to believe that we can do incredible things. The boundaries of life come out of your own heart and you can limit your life like the children of Israel and Psalm 78. This needs to be about establishing the heart in grace for success. Ever increasing heart or life Psalms 35:27 Deuteronomy 30:8-10 2 Peter 1:4God needs your life to increase. To really live we must learn to listen and obey every word that comes from God. Matthew 10:39 Luke 4:3-4 Deuteronomy 8:3 Mark 14:1-11 Acts 10:1-6 Faith without corresponding actions is dead James 2:20 Psalms 126:5 - 127:2 If Jesus didn’t need money why do we need money? Jesus had enough money on Judas to feed 4000 people or maybe their kids and families too. people were giving him money like in evangelistic ministry Can we make God move by giving, no Our giving establishes a legacy, investing in others allows you to influence the end time harvest for the kingdom of God. Acts 1:8 Luke 12:16-21
Hebrews 6:13 to the end. Also reading of Psalm 110:4God gives us great hope so we can press on till the end... what hope are you giving your wife?

Lifeline with Apostle Shirley Jones: GIVE THANKS! Apostle Shirley J. Jones is the Senior Pastor of Rehoboth Family Life Center, located in Upper Marlboro, Md. The Lord has given her the charge to make disciples; help them identify their spiritual gifts and set up platforms of opportunities that their gifts may be exercised; and then release them into their divine destiny. She pushes them forward that the world may be saved by those birthed out in the Spirit. Apostle Jones has declared that she should be about her Father's business and acknowledges that her life is called to be an available vessel to set the captives free. Her desire is to spend her remaining years furthering the Kingdom of 4God. She feels honored and so blessed that God would choose her to deliver His Word and to love His people. She gives Him all the glory. There is no other place that she would rather be than in the hands of her loving Father.Marriage Takeover: The Body of One. With Rev. Eric and Rev. We’re here to shepherd Christ’s flock and seek the lost sheep by sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with all. Come, let us worship! For your convenience, in the back corner of the sanctuary there is a room for any parents with children in need of a quiet place. The restrooms are located on the lower level. Please ask if you have any further questions or concerns. Lord Jesus, bless our Christmas celebrations. You know me far better than I know myself; you came to this world as a baby in order to create peace between me and you. Grant me a quiet heart to hear your Word, and remind me again with the joy of your birth; AMEN.The Gift of Christmas:“In the obedience of this person Jesus . . . Christ has covered all our disobedience, which dwells in our nature and its thoughts, words, and works. Our disobedience is not charged against us for condemnation; it is pardoned and forgiven out of pure grace alone, for Christ’s sake.”Formula of Concord, Article 3 (Concordia p. 545)Our worship this evening is an adaptation of the Lessons and Carols service traditionally held at King's College, Cambridge, England, on December 24th every year. Lessons and Carols was first held on Christmas Eve, 1918. It was planned by Eric Milner-White, who at the age of thirty-four had just been appointed Dean of King’s College after experience as an army chaplain. The lessons for tonight have been used for almost 100 years to recall God’s promise to send a Savior, as well as that promise’s fulfillment. EXHORTATION & PRAYERPlease rise.Dear people of God, in this Christmas season, it is our duty and delight to hear again the message of the angels and, in heart and mind, to go to Bethlehem and see this thing which has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us — the Christ Child lying in a manger, born to save us.Let us read and learn in Holy Scripture the story of the loving purposes of God from the first days after our fall into sin to the glorious redemption brought to us by this holy child. But first, let us pray for people all over the world who would delight with us to know the good news of Jesus Christ and who would join with us in singing his praises. Let us pray for the people of our community and our church. And, because this would please the Lord, let us remember in his name the poor and helpless, the cold, the hungry and the oppressed, the sick and those who are sad, the lonely and the unloved, and the elderly and the little children. We especially remember all those who do not know the Lord Jesus, those who do not love him, and those who by unrepentant sin have grieved his heart of love. Finally, let us remember before God all those who rejoice with us in heaven, who live in greater light than we, that multitude which no one can number, whose hope was in the Word made flesh, who died in faith, and who live before the throne of God and praise him each day in his temple. We confess that we are united with them as we are united with one another. To sum up all these petitions, let us pray as Christ himself taught us:Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever; Amen.OPENING HYMN: 55 – Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful FIRST LESSON: Genesis 3:8-15God promises that a descendant of Eve, as the champion and substitute of all mankind, would win a victory over Satan and rob him of his power.8They heard the voice of the LORD God, who was walking around in the garden during the cooler part of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9The LORD God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?” 10The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, so I hid myself.” 11God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree from which I commanded you not to eat?” 12The man said, “The woman you gave to be with me—she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” 13The LORD God said to the woman, “What have you done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” 14The LORD God said to the serpent: Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all the livestock, and more than every wild animal. You shall crawl on your belly, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. 15I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will crush your head, and you will crush his heel. SECOND LESSON: Genesis 22:15-18God repeats his promise: All nations will be blessed through Abraham’s descendent. 15The Angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time from heaven 16and said, “I have sworn by myself, declares the LORD, because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17I will bless you greatly, and I will multiply your descendants greatly, like the stars of the sky and like the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the city gates of their enemies. 18In your seed all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice.” CONFESSION OF FAITHFrom the Augsburg Confession, Article 3:M: Our churches teach that the Word, that is, the Son of God, assumed the human nature in the womb of the Virgin Mary. C: So there are two natures — the divine and the human — inseparably joined in one person. There is one Christ, true God and true man, who was born of the Virgin Mary, truly suffered, was crucified, died, and was buried. He did this to reconcile the Father to us, and to be a sacrifice, not only for original sin and guilt, but also for every sin of all humanity. He also descended into hell, and truly rose again on the third day. Afterward, he ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father. There he forever reigns and has dominion over all creatures. He sanctifies those who believe in Him, by sending the Holy Spirit into their hearts to rule, comfort, and make them alive. He defends them against the devil and the power of sin.The same Christ will openly come again to judge the living and the dead, according to the Apostles’ Creed.THIRD LESSON: Isaiah 9:2, 6-7The Promised One will rule on David’s throne forever.2The people walking in darkness have seen a great light. On those living in the land of the shadow of death, the light has dawned. ... 6For to us a child is born. To us a son is given. The authority to rule will rest on his shoulders. His name will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7There will be no limit to his authority and no end to his peace. He will rule on David’s throne and over his kingdom to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from now on and forever. The zeal of the LORD of Armies will accomplish this. HYMN: 42 – Come, Your Hearts and Voices RaisingFOURTH LESSON: Micah 5:2-4God points to the place where the Messiah will be born.2“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come the one to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from ancient times, from eternity.” 3Therefore he will surrender them until the time she who is in labor gives birth to a child. Then the remainder of his brothers will return to the children of Israel. 4He will stand and shepherd with the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God. They will dwell securely, for at that time he will be great to the ends of the earth. FIFTH LESSON: Matthew 1:18-25The angel’s announcement to Joseph.18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ took place. His mother, Mary, was pledged in marriage to Joseph. Before they came together, she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. 19 Joseph, her husband, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her. So he decided to divorce her privately. 20 But as he was considering these things, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”22 All this happened to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23 “Look, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son. And they will name him Immanuel,” which means, “God with us.”24 When Joseph woke up from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him. He took Mary home as his wife, 25 but he was not intimate with her until she gave birth to her firstborn son.[f] And he named him Jesus.CONFESSION OF FAITHAdapted from Dr. Martin Luther’s seventh sermon on John 1, from 1537/8. (LW 22:102f)M: John’s Gospel says: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” Earlier, John called the Word ‘God,’ then a Light which came into the world and created the world - and yet, was not accepted by the world. C: With this word ‘flesh,’ we see how God has assumed our human flesh and blood. Human reason cannot comprehend the mercy of our God, choosing to share our humanity. M: We Christians learn to prize and esteem these words, for herein we see the gospel. The Son of God did not take on himself the nature of angels, but humbled himself and took on the seed of Abraham. C: Jesus Christ, who is of my flesh, blood, and soul, is seated in heaven at the right hand of God the Father. The humanity of Christ is enduring proof of God’s mercy toward me, on account of Jesus. M: These words are not given for you to misuse or merely take up on occasion; these words are given for you to believe. C: Therefore, we should constantly have such words in our heart and on our lips. Let us learn not to argue with the devil when he tempts us; rather, let us put him to flight with the heartfelt words: “The Word became flesh for me!”M: The eternal Son of God ‘committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;’C: And though he was not guilty of death, he became man for our comfort and salvation. Yes, he became a curse and sin for us, in order to deliver us from the eternal curse, and to justify us. M: We believe the Scriptures and confess with the holy Christian church, which existed at all times and will endure until the end of the world: This article of our Christian faith, together with all the others, is firmly and solidly established by the apostles & prophets, the spokesmen of the Holy Spirit:All: That Christ, our Lord and God, assumed true human nature; and that he became a natural man like any other man. He dwelt among us, with a human body as you & I have; he was nourished and grew as every other human, except without sin. SIXTH LESSON: Luke 2:1-7The birth of our Lord.In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3And everyone went to register, each to his own town. 4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the town of Nazareth, into Judea, to the town of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was from the house and family line of David. 5He went to be registered with Mary, his wife, who was pledged to him in marriage and was expecting a child. ( . . . continued . . . )6And so it was that while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7And she gave birth to her firstborn son, wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. HYMN: 61 – Hark! The Herald Angels SingSEVENTH LESSON: Luke 2:8-20The angel’s announcement to the shepherds.8There were in the same country shepherds staying out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified! 10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. For behold, I bring you good news of great joy, which will be for all people: 11Today in the town of David, a Savior was born for you. He is Christ the Lord. 12And this will be a sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude from the heavenly army, praising God and saying, 14“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward mankind.” 15When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Now let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17When they had seen him, they told others the message they had been told about this child. 18And all who heard it were amazed by what the shepherds said to them. 19But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. HYMN: 263 – All Glory Be to God on HighSermon based on Luke 2: A Song about PeaceOFFERINGAfter the offering, an usher will come to your pew and light the candle nearest the center aisle. Please then light the candle next to you until all the candles are lit in the pew. When all the candles are lit, the lights will be dimmed. Remember to tip the unlit candle and leave the lit candle vertical.PRAYERO God, who makes us glad with the yearly remembrance of the birth of your only Son, Jesus Christ; grant that, as we joyfully receive him as our Redeemer, so may we also behold him with sure confidence when he shall come to be our judge; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever;Amen.BLESSINGMay he who by his incarnation gathered things earthly and heavenly into one, fill us with such joy that comes with the knowledge of the forgiveness of sins and the hope of eternal life. And the blessing of God Almighty - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit - be upon you and remain with you always;Amen!CLOSING HYMNPlease be seated for our closing hymn:Silent night! Holy night! All is calm, all is bright, Round yon virgin mother and child. Holy Infant, so tender and mild,Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace.Silent night! Holy night! Shepherds quake at the sight. Glories stream from heaven afar; Heav'nly hosts sing, Alleluia; Christ, the Savior, is born! Christ, the Savior, is born!Silent night! Holy night! This is the fifth class on the book of Hebrews. This Bible class was taught at the Pilot Point Church in Pilot Point Texas. The following is the outline of the class. Son versus the prophets Hbr 1:1-2 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by [His] Son Hebrews 1:2-3 He appointed heir of all things 2. He made the worlds 3. He is brightness of God’s glory 4. The express image of God 5. Upholding all things by the word of his power 6. Purged our sins 7. Sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high Jesus is greater than the Angels Chapter 1:4-2:18 Angels God has used angels to carry messages from Himself to man. communicate with us outside our five senses • God has used angels to arrange blessings for humans. • God has used angels to deliver us from harm. • God has used angels to answer prayer • God will use angels to escort me to Heaven when I die. Comparing Jesus with the angels Jesus: • Only begotten Son • Direct lineage to God • Worship Him • Sits on the throne • God the father calls Him God Angels: • They're not • They never • Never worshipped • They serve • Ministering spirits Hebrews 2 1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, 3how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? Drift also Leak Out Acts 13:52…. filled with joy • Ephesians 5:18… filled with the Holy Spirit • 2 Corinthians 7:4…filled with comfort • Matthew 5:6… Hunger and thirst • Romans 15… filled with knowledge Hebrews 2 (NKJV) 1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. Hebrews 10 (NIV) 28Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? Hebrews 2 (NKJV) 1 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. 2For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, 3how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, 4God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will? Outline for chapter 2:5-18 Another problem associated with angels In the first chapter the writer emphasizes the Son’s deity now, he emphasizes Jesus humanity to complete the picture of why the Son is greater than the angels. • Not only God but man and He can bridge a gap that the angelic host could not. 5It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6But there is a place where someone has testified: • “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? 7You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor 8 and put everything under their feet.” • In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present, we do not see everything subject to them. •[9But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.10In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, Not only did Jesus become flesh • Not only did Jesus live in the flesh • Not only die in the flesh • But He was raised in the flesh • He assended in the flesh-He is still a man, He kept His humanity Hebrews 2 (NKJV) 5It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6But there is a place where someone has testified: • “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? 7You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor 8 and put everything under their feet. SIDE STUDY ON THE DESTINY OF CHRISTIANS James 2: 26 for as the body without the spirit is dead, Philippians 1:21-24 21For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.22But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me, and I do not know which to choose. 23But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; 24yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. To depart and be with Christ for that is very much better. YOUR RESURRECTED GLORIFIED HUMAN BODY - God’s extreme makeover. Resurrection of mortal body Romans 8:10-11 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Philippians 3:20-21 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body. Resurrection Mar 12:24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 1Cor 15:12 Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? The scope of our redemption demands it. The Biblical view of man. (Gen. 1:12, 18 &25) 2. Death - the enemy of God. (I Cor. 15:26) 3. Salvation means, literally, to be made whole. Heb.10:39 Salvation of soul. 1Cor. 5:5 Salvation of Spirit. Rom 8:23 The redemption of our bodies. Our destiny demands it. God became a man with a body. (John1:1, 14) 2. Jesus’ destiny is our destiny. (Rom. 8:17) 1Cr 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, [and] become the firstfruits of them that slept.3. He promised we would never die. (John 11:25-26) Our new environment demands it. 1. “New heavens and new earth” (II Pet. 3:13 - Heb. 1:12) 2. Powerful unimaginable changes. The ultimate makeover (I Cor. 15:37) 1Cr 15:35-38 But someone will say, "How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come? “You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies; and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else. But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own Incredible Change Our new environment demands it. Powerful unimaginable changes. Actual changes no digestive system - (I Cor. 6:13) no sexual relationship - (Mt. 22:30) no aging - (I Cor. 15) glorious - (I Cor. 15) powerful - no handicaps - (I Cor. 15) perfectly fitted for our new home - (I Cor. 15) I John 3: 1-3 1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure 2 CORINTHIANS 5:1-4 Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. Meanwhile, we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling, because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 2 CORINTHIANS 4:16-17 Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, Romans 8:17-18 17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. 18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. IT WILL HAPPEN AT THE 2ND COMING OF CHRIST There will be 3 great signs. (I Thess. 4:14-18) 1. The last great trumpet. 2. The shout of Michael. 3. The appearance of Jesus with all the spirits of the saved who have died. Then the resurrection of dead Christian bodies & then the changing of all our bodies. All in the blink of an eye Hebrews 2 (NKJV) 5It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6But there is a place where someone has testified: • “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? 7You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor 8 and put everything under their feet. The Jews spoke of 3 worlds The world that was = the world before Mt Sinai 2. The world that is = as the Jewish nation 3. The world to come = when the Messiah comes Hebrews 2 (NKJV) 5It is not to angels that he has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking. 6But there is a place where someone has testified: “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, a son of man that you care for him? 7You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor 8 and put everything under their feet. In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present, we do not see everything subject to them 9But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. 10For it was fitting for Him, for who are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
Genesis 1:1-5 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2Now the earth was without shape and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the watery deep, but the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the water. 3God said, “Let there be light.” And there was light! 4God saw […]

Romans 3 1What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? 2Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. 3For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? 4God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. 5But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man) 6God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world? 7For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner? 8And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just. 9What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; 10As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17And the way of peace have they not known: 18There is no fear of God before their eyes. 19Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. 29Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: 30Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. 31Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
