This week, Akilah takes a close look at Shenandoah County, Virginia, where one of the more public fights over Confederate iconography has been playing out over the past few years. In 2020, two schools in Shenandoah County named after Confederate generals were changed to Mountain View High School and Honey Run Elementary School. However, the racists fought to change the names back. Incredibly, the students took up the challenge. Akilah speaks with a local journalist and a lawyer representing the students in this legal battle to get a full scope of what it takes to defeat the Confederacy...again. The question is when, if ever, will the MAGA movement actually condemn the racism Trump dishes out on a near-daily basis? Or is this just another moment they'll excuse, deflect from, and move past until the next outrage? To break it all down, Don is joined by a stacked panel: Hasan Piker, Akilah Hughes, Katie Phang, Charles Coleman, and Ana Navarro. Sharp takes, real talk, and zero tolerance for excuses.

Welcome back to the studio.  This is My Day of Play, where you're taken into the real events and actions of how it happens long before the process of editing or cleaning up.  The original purpose of these episodes was to give my broadcasting students something to edit, to practice with and to call their own.  Then I realized that you are just as important.  Share the reality of how it really went.  We begin things with Akilah Hughes the host of the podcast Rebel Spirit.  It's about her journey back to a small town to change her high school's mascot. Then we'll wrap things up Brigit Esselmont who is one of the world's best known and most beloved Tarot readers. This is My Day of Play.  Completely unedited in the way of meeting the wizard behind the curtain.  Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
