Coming in at #9 Cigar of the Year for 2025 is the Aging Room La Bohème Poeta. La Bohème was initially released in 2014 by Rafael Nodal under his Boutique Blends Cigars portfolio. La Bohème is the name of an opera composed by Giacomo Puccini, a favorite of Nodal's. It was a brand that was intended to bring together three passions of Nodal's: music, Cuban Culture, and, of course, his love of cigars. In 2017, things changed for Nodal. He would move distribution over to Altadis U.S.A. and join the Altadis team as Director of Product Capability (and later, Vice President). At the time this happened, some streamlining and reorganizing of the brands under Boutique Blends Cigars took place, and one line that was put on hold was La Bohème. Late in 2024 word came that La Bohème would indeed be making a comeback. This time branded as the Aging Room La Bohème, featuring a brand-new blend. Full Details: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-yso

Coming in at #12 Cigar of the Year for 2025 is the Romeo Y Julieta 150th Anniversary Balconet by Altadis U.S.A. In 2025, Altadis U.S.A. had a lot to celebrate, marking 90 years of Montecristo and 150 years of Romeo y Julieta. To honor these significant milestones, the company planned to release special cigars, with the 150th Anniversary edition among the most notable Romeo y Julieta launches in over a decade. While Altadis U.S.A. itself isn't quite 150 years old, the Romeo y Julieta brand dates back to 1875 in Cuba. Altadis collaborates with various partners, and what makes the 150th Anniversary release particularly special is its tobacco. The selected tobaccos come from some of Altadis' key agricultural partners, including AJ Fernandez, José Mendez & Co., Plasencia S.A., and the Turrent family. Full Details: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-yrt

Earlier this year at the 2025 PCA Trade Show, Altadis unveiled a new ultra-premium cigar in their Montecristo line called M. What makes this special is a 20 year aged Ecuadorian Connecticut that is used for its wrapper. This special wrapper was acquired from David Perez of ASP in Nicaragua. The blend for the Montecristo M was developed by AJ Fernandez and Rafael Nodal using this wrapper at AJ's factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. Here is what Altadis had to say about the cigar: “Crafted by the legendary cigarmaker AJ Fernandez, the story of this smoke lies in a wrapper that has been carefully and beautifully aged for two decades. Aging a cigar's wrapper leaf, like a fine bourbon or wine, adds a tremendous amount of character and maturity to a smoke, heightening the tasting notes and taking the smoker on a journey far beyond what they have experienced from normal mass market offerings in the past. The Connecticut seed Ecuadorian leaf utilized for this project was cultivated and brought to life through the fifth-generation grower David Perez, resulting in a medium-bodied smoke that is uniquely proportioned to accentuate the subtle beauty of the wrapper.” Vitola: Toro Size: 6 x 52 Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut Binder: Nicaraguan Filler: Nicaraguan Country of Origin: Nicaragua Factory: Tabacalera AJ Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua S.A. MSRP: $15.99 Final Score: 93

One of the bigger announcements heading into the 2025 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show was Luciano Cigars entering into a joint partnership with Empresa Madeirense de Tabacos SA (EMT) to form Constella Group. While both Luciano and EMT will be integrating operations, each will also keep their own identities. Co-Owner Luciano Meirelles has said Constella Group is like an umbrella company for various Luciano Cigars and EMT brands, much like Altadis and STG, which are holding companies for their brands. In addition, baseball great Adrian Gonzalez is coming in as a full partner in the Constella Group operation. Gonzalez also has a new cigar brand of his own called The Resilient. This is one of four new releases Constella brought into PCA 2025. We apologize in advance for some of the audio issues. We recommend you turn up your volume here to enjoy this great interview. Join Nick as he does a deep dive into Altadis USA. Altadis is home to some of the most popular cigar brands such as Montecristo, Romeo y Julieta, and H. Upmann. In this episode, Nick talks about their history, products, and their place in the industry today.
The 2025 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show saw Altadis U.S.A.'s Romeo y Julieta take center stage. Having covered the PCA Trade Show for 15 years, I can honestly say that I have never seen an exhibit quite like the one for Romeo y Julieta. Although Altadis U.S.A. was my "company" going into the Trade Show, I didn't expect to witness something at the level of Romeo y Julieta. Their exhibit was essentially a booth within a booth, showcasing the rich history of this iconic brand. The highlight of the event was the celebration of Romeo y Julieta's 150th anniversary, marked by a special cigar crafted for this significant milestone. This cigar features a unique blend of tobaccos from Altadis and its partners that has never been seen before. Full PCA Report: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-wrt

Montecristo was one of many brands being showcased by Altadis U.S.A. at the 2025 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show. The year 2025 marks the 90th anniversary of the Montecristo brand, a milestone that coincides with the celebrations of its sibling brand, Romeo y Julieta. To avoid overlapping festivities, Altadis U.S.A. has chosen to concentrate on Romeo y Julieta's remarkable 150th anniversary at PCA 2025. Nonetheless, Montecristo will have its moment in the spotlight later in 2025. In the meantime, Montecristo isn't being overlooked. Altadis has recently unveiled its latest prominent release, the Montecristo M, along with a few special editions, including the Montecristo White Series Diadema and the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua Heirloom Ceramic Jar. Coming in at #14 on the 2024 Cigar Coop Cigar of the Year Countdown is the Trinidad Espiritu Series No 3 Toro by Altadis U.S.A.. Back in 2019, the Trinidad brand celebrated its 50th anniversary. Trinidad is a brand that traces its roots back to Cuba, but Altadis U.S.A. has owned the Trinidad brand in the U.S. for quite some time. For a while, the brand was almost dormant in the Altadis portfolio. That changed in 2019 when, coinciding with Trinidad's 50th anniversary, Altadis U.S.A. launched the Trinidad Espiritu Series. This would take a whole new spin on the Trinidad brand and essentially bring the brand back to life in the Altadis portfolio. Currently, there are three Trinidad Espiritu releases, with the Espiritu No. 3 being the latest in the series. Each installment pays homage to a different Latin American region—that also happens to be a cigar-producing region. Full Details: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-uwC

Coming in at #17 on the 2024 Cigar Coop Cigar of the Year Countdown is the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante Toro by Altadis U.S.A. In 2020, Rafael Nodal and Altadis U.S.A. teamed up with AJ Fernandez to release a cigar commemorating 85 years of the Montecristo brand, the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua. The cigar proved to be both critically acclaimed and commercially successful for Altadis U.S.A., including landing #12 on the 2021 Countdown. Another blend was under consideration during the development of the original Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Nicaragua. At that time, Nodal believed this blend had potential, but he felt the tobaccos required more aging. As a result, that blend was not used initially. Fast forward a little over three years, and that blend has transformed into the Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Diamante. Full Details: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-uts

Altadis U.S.A. was a busy booth at the 2024 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show. Plenty of new or newly released products were showcased. Leading the way was the ultra-premium Montecristo 1935 Anniversary Edición Noble Diamonte and a special release celebrating the 180th anniversary of H. Upmann. At the same time, there are projects among many of the other brands under Altadis U.S.A. It should be no surprise that Altadis U.S.A. got off to a fast start, given its banner year in 2023. Consequently, this resulted in a 2023 Large Company of the Year award for Altadis and its parent company, Tabacalera USA, and a 2023 Person of the Year award for Vice President of Product Capability Rafael Nodal. This past year, Nodal introduced a new line, an offshoot of the Quattro Nicaragua line known as the Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua Sonata. Like many Aging Room Cigars, the Aging Room Quattro Nicaragua Sonata is inspired by Nodal's love of music. A Sonata is a classic music composition for an instrumental soloist, often accompanied by piano. After the success of the original Aging Room Nicaragua Quattro, Nodal decided he wanted to compose his own interpretation of a sonata, but in the form of a cigar. Coming in at #9 is the Montecristo Epic Vintage 12 Blue Toro by Altadis U.S.A.. In 2021, Altadis U.S.A. introduced a new installment to its Montecristo brand under its Epic line – the Montecristo Epic Vintage 12. The Epic series focuses on using vintage tobaccos. In the case of the Montecristo Epic Vintage 12, the blend incorporates vintage tobacco from 2012 into the filler. This is a crop that Altadis U.S.A. has deemed exceptional. As for the blue name, it is the color that adorns the packaging and band of this cigar - and it's the first time this color has been used on the Montecristo brand. The Montecristo Epic Vintage 12 features an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper over a Dominican binder and a combination of Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. The Dominican component of the filler contains tobacco from 2012. The Toro size is a classic 6 x 52 offering. As for production, it originates from the famed Tabacalera de Garcia in the Dominican Republic. It's a project that was developed by Rafael Nodal and Altadis' famed Grupo de Maestros team. As the name indicates, this cigar produced an epic experience - especially when it came to flavor. Notes delivered include coffee bean, natural tobacco, chocolate, earth, hay, and black pepper. It's a medium-strength and medium-bodied smoking experience. You can't underscore enough the job that Nodal has done as Altadis' Director of Product Capability. Whether its working with his own factories or outside ones, he is delivering some amazing cigars - and the Montecristo Epic Vintage 12 Blue Toro is no exception. The Montecristo Epic Vintage 12 Blue Toro joins the H. Upmann Nicaragua AJ Fernandez Heritage Toro as cigars by Altadis U.S.A. that have placed on the 2022 Countdown. This is the seventh year Altadis has landed on a Cigar Coop Countdown. It also gives the Dominican Republic a fourth cigar on this year's Countdown. Full Report: https://wp.me/p6h1n1-ooV

Coming in at #13 is the H. Upmann Nicaragua AJ Fernandez Heritage Toro by Altadis USA. When it comes to the H. Upmann brand, there is quite a strong track record both from a commercial and critical standpoint when Altadis' Rafael Nodal and AJ Fernandez join forces. This includes the H. Upmann Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez and the limited edition H. Upmann 175th Anniversary. Toward the end of 2021, came the word of another H. Upmann project with Nodal and Fernandez known as the H. Upmann Nicaragua AJ Fernandez Heritage. The blend for the H. Upmann Nicaragua AJ Fernandez Heritage is a combination of extra-aged tobaccos from Brazil and Nicaragua. This is highlighted by a Brazilian Mata Fina triple fermented wrapper over a Nicaraguan Habano binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Brazil. The Toro measures 54 x 6. The result is a cigar that is medium in strength and medium to full in body. The flavors shine in this blend as it delivers notes of coffee beans, stone fruit, cocoa, spicy cinnamon, and pepper. These flavors complement each other quite well. We all know Rafael Nodal's love of music, and the way these flavors play well together is reminiscent of how a symphony orchestra performs. For Altadis USA, this is the seventh year the company has placed a cigar on a Cigar Coop Countdown, including three years in a row. This is the latest cigar from Nicaragua to land on the Countdown. If you are following our reveal at home Nicaragua has been the dominant country thus far. With 18 cigars unveiled, this is the 13th cigar to land on the Countdown from that Central American country. Altadis' Adam Najarian joins us with the about to be released line extension to the highly acclaimed Montecristo 1935 Anniversary line, the 5 1/2 x 60 box pressed Espeso. The Montecristo 1935 was one of our favorite new releases from last year, does this new "thick" vitola rise to meet those high expectations? Speaking of high expectations, Erik Stokkebye, who's 4th Generation Tobacconist line of pipes and tobaccos is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. And to celebrate that, Erik has released Jubilæums Flake, a small batch release consisting of 1500 100g boxes. Does this latest release from Erik live up to the Stokkebye legacy? In the second half of the show, we will open one of these prized tins and find out. Both the Monte and the Jubilæums Flake will be paired with Willet bourbon.
