In this latest episode I was joined by former Ladies European Tour professional Danielle Thwaites who was Danielle Masters when she played on tour. First thing's first please subscribe and listen into Danielle's new venture Birdies n Banter on YouTube where you will see interviews with former colleagues, range swings and golf clothing! Danielle played golf at an early age believe it or not with left handed clubs to start with then eventually had to change over to right handed clubs. Danielle represented England at various tournaments alongside the likes of Sophie Walker and was a part of Vagliano Trophy in 2003 & a part of the Curtis Cup in 2004 at Formby where they had a superstar on the US side in the form of Michelle Wie. Danielle would turn pro in 2004 and would successfully gain her LET Card at the first time of asking which is a very impressive feat and would be out on tour for 4 full seasons before injuries would affect her progress before she would become a mother to 2 children. Since she gave up tour life she has become a successfully qualified Chiropodist with her own business, plays golf again at County level in Kent & is happily married with hubby John and has 2 kids now! Danielle recently got the chance to start up on a new venture with the Going OB podcast with Craig Purves where she would co-host after a successful episode together. Download and like via Podbean, Apple & Spotify and be sure to give Danielle some loving after a good episode! Wish Danni all the best with Birdies n Banter! Thanks
John is joined by Brian Schatz, the senior U.S. senator from Hawaii, to discuss the second week of Trump 2.0 and where Democrats go from here. Schatz pulls no punches in describing Trump's attempt to politicize the tragic midair collision over the Potomac by blaming DEI initiatives as“disgusting” and in arguing that “millions could die” if RFK Jr. is confirmed as HHS secretary; but he also warns fellow Democrats against reflexively taking Trump's bait and letting themselves lose sight of what matters to the real lives of real people. Schatz also opines on the Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel nominations, Trump's aborted attempt to freeze federal spending, and what it's ike to have attended the same high school as Barack Obama and Michelle Wie. In episode 3, Jim Dodson tells the story of his third ”Pinehurst cure," how Pinehurst brought championship golf back to historic course No. 2, and how Payne Stewart and Michelle Wie found magic in the pines, resulting in the biggest wins of their careers.
The Pinehurst Cure and the Road to the US Open is a stirring, heartfelt, and sweeping narrative story of how golf's greatest champions found magic on the hallowed fairways of the most celebrated golf course in America, Pinehurst No. 2—the site of the 2024 US Open. The title comes from New York Times bestselling golf writer James Dodson, who wrote and narrates the story. While living in the tiny golfing village of Pinehurst, North Carolina, Dodson discovered a phenomenon he calls “The Pinehurst Cure.” It's the place's particular magic to change the lives of people when they need it most, including some of the best golfers in the world, from Payne Stewart to Michelle Wie, Arnold Palmer to Ben Hogan, and Donald Ross and Harvie Ward, who Dodson calls “the greatest golfer most people have never heard of.” But it's Dodson's personal stories that create a roadmap for this audio journey, with his own Pinehurst Cures leading the way. Episode 2 will be released on Wednesday, June 19th. Episode 3 will be released on Wednesday, June 26th.

In Part 2 of this week's show, I'm joined by SportsBox Ai Founder Jeehae Lee plus Caddie Hall of Famer Dennis Cone and former PGA of America Write & Historian Bob Denney. Jeehae Lee picked up a plastic bat at the age of 8, swung it and the next thing she knew her parents bought her a set of clubs, got her an Instructor, dropped her off at the driving range, and told her to find her way there each day after school to practice...in Seoul, South Korea...at the age of 8! She played her college golf at Yale, helped them win the 2003 & 2006 Ivy League Championships, broke 70 for the first time ever at LPGA Q-School, finished 12th, and earned her Tour card. She retired from the Tour in 2014 and became Michelle Wie's Assistant/Manager. From there she went on to be the Director of Business Strategy for Top Golf. She then started her own company called SportsBox Ai. Their software creates a 3D video of your swing taken from your cell phone. You can see your swing from every possible angle including overhead and underneath. You can overlay your good swings and bad swings to understand what was different. You can also overlay Tour Player swings and learn to swing like they do. Hear all this plus check out Sportbox Ai here: https://www.sportsbox.ai/ Dennis Cone is a Caddie Hall of Famer and the Founder of the Professional Caddie Association. Before his retirement, Bob Denney was a Writer and Historian for the PGA of America. They tell the stories of two remarkable ladies in our game, Madelyn "Moochie" Turner and Renee Powell. Moochie is also a member of the Caddier Hall of Fame. Renee Powell played on the LPGA Tour and is the daughter of Bill Powell who is the first African American to design, build, and own a golf course in the US. It's Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, Ohio. Hear all of those stories plus what both guys are doing to assist our Veterans around the country.
Hally Ledbetter has a lot going on in and around the world off golf and Emma Carpenter asks her about all of it. Born into a golf family, the daughter of two professionals, she didn't start really getting into the game until an early teen but she quickly got very good and played collegiately at Arkansas and Rollins College. Despite being a highly-ranked amateur, her interests in the game became more than just playing competitively and she currently produces a high volume of golf content with her "On the Tee" series, "Better off with Hally Ledbetter", a podcast with long-time friend Michelle Wie and one about to launch with her brother. This conversation is a great look at how golf can be utilized as a vehicle off the course as well as on.

Ann visits with three top women in golf: Michelle Wie, former LPGA star and golf influencer; LPGA Hall of Famer Betsy King; and LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan.
This May marks the 20th anniversary of Annika Sorenstam playing the Bank of America Colonial at Colonial Country Club, where she became the first woman in more than 50 years to play with the men on the PGA Tour. That week was highly anticipated, stressful, and loaded with controversy as more than 300 reporters, hundreds of photographers, and thousands of fans flocked to Texas to see her play. The reactions to her inclusion ranged from supportive to hostile, and though she handled herself admirably both on and off the course, it's no surprise that she never did it again. In a way, Sorenstam was playing for the entire LPGA Tour and women's golf in general that week. She wasn't the first. Two women before her, and three after, also took their turn playing with the men, and the story of those women is one of courage, triumph, failure, and a no small amount of sexism. This is the story of the six women in history who teed it up with the men on the PGA Tour.
Ann catches up with LPGA star Michelle Wie West, Host of the LPGA Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National in Jersey City, NJ, June 1-4, 2023, and she opens up about her career, her life after the LPGA Tour, and hopes for more progress for the female players in terms of TV coverage and prize money.
Ann shares her thoughts about Brooks Koepka and Michael Block from the PGA Championship and Block missing the cut at Colonial; visits with former LPGA star Michelle Wie West who will be hosting the LPGA Mizuho Americas Open at Liberty National in Jersey City, NJ this week; and catches up with Lt. Col. Dan Rooney, F-16 Fighter Pilot and PGA Professional, about the work that Folds of Honor is doing to support military families and families of first responders.
