Welcome to the podcast with Dr. Brendan McCarthy! This episode takes you deep into the real-world practice of prescribing testosterone therapy for women. This is not a high-level overview—this is a nuts and bolts breakdown: ✅ Who it's for ✅ How it's dosed ✅ What labs to run ✅ What delivery methods are safest ✅ Why it's often done wrong—and how to get it right With over 20 years of clinical experience, Dr. McCarthy shares the insights no seminar or textbook can offer, including the emotional and psychological challenges women face when beginning testosterone therapy, and the very real fears around side effects and community stigma.
Welcome to the podcast with Dr. Brendan McCarthy! In this episode we dive deep into one of the most misunderstood and debated topics in hormone health: testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) for women. You may have heard horror stories—or glowing reviews. But what's the truth? Dr. McCarthy discusses: - Why testosterone matters for women's health - How it affects brain chemistry, mood, bone density, and even breast tissue - Its role after estrogen-suppressing breast cancer treatments - The difference between safe and unsafe TRT - What your provider should be doing to monitor and manage it effectively Dr. Brendan McCarthy founded Protea Medical Center in 2002. While he's been the chief medical officer, Protea has grown and evolved into a dynamic medical center serving the Valley and Central Arizona. A nationally recognized as an expert in hormone replacement therapy, Dr McCarthy s the only instructor in the nation who teaches BioHRT on live patients. Physicians travel to Arizona to take his course and integrate it into their own practices. Besides hormone replacement therapy, Dr. McCarthy has spoken nationally and locally before physicians on topics such as weight loss, infertility, nutritional therapy and more.

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"Being yourself may sound easy, but it's actually the hardest thing you can do. And that's okay. It takes time, but it will come.” Have you ever wondered if there's more to life than just going through the motions? What if the key to a fulfilling life lies in an unexpected source: the art of clowning? In situations that often feels heavy and overly complicated, it's easy to lose sight of who we truly are and the joy in everyday moments. Many of us are searching for a way to reconnect with ourselves and with others, and today, we're exploring a unique approach that does just that. The qualities of a clown—authenticity, vulnerability, and radical honesty—can profoundly transform not only how we interact with others but also how we see ourselves. Embracing these traits can help us live a life with purpose, view failure as a tool for growth, and apply these principles to build better relationships, navigate life's challenges, and improve in business or leadership roles. Eddy Smits has spent over a decade as a hospital clown, visiting thousands of sick children and bringing joy to their lives in the most challenging circumstances. His work inspired him to explore the deeper impact of authentic communication and human connection, which led him to write his book, Model C. Eddy shares how clowning has shaped his journey, the lessons he's learned about resilience, and how he applies these principles in his work as a personal development coach. Episode Summary: In this heartwarming and insightful episode of The Chris Voss Show, host Chris Voss welcomes Eddy Smits, a multifaceted expert and former hospital clown, to discuss the transformational power of humor, leadership, and authentic communication. Eddy Smits unique background and comprehensive experiences offer a refreshing perspective that merges laughter with profound life lessons, aimed at making significant impacts in professional and personal development. Through a blend of humorous anecdotes and deep reflections, Eddy Smits unveils how the principles of hospital clowning can be applied to leadership and coaching. The discussion pivots around the acceptance and resilience required to bring joy to terminally ill children and their families, underscoring the importance of seeing situations from multiple perspectives. This ability to find light in the darkest moments is a testament to the enduring power of hope and human connection, themes central to Eddie's approach to personal development. Listeners will gain insights into Eddy Smits coaching philosophy, which prioritizes individual needs over rigid programs. He emphasizes the significance of active listening and genuine connection, borrowing from the same principles that guided his interactions in hospitals. The show delves into the transformative role of humor in healing and leadership, illustrating how playful yet sincere engagement can lead to profound personal and professional growth. Key Takeaways: Humor as Healing: Humor can be a powerful tool for coping and healing, even in the darkest moments, by providing hope and shifting perspectives. Acceptance and Authenticity: Genuine connections and the acceptance of realities, however harsh, are pivotal in leading others and oneself through challenging times. Flexible Coaching Approach: Eddy emphasizes a tailored coaching style that addresses the unique needs of each individual, rather than adhering to a strict, one-size-fits-all program. Leadership through Service: True leadership is about focusing on the needs of the people you lead, using common sense, and removing ego from the equation. Power of Communication: Effective communication, grounded in authenticity and active listening, can significantly influence and improve interpersonal relationships and professional outcomes. Notable Quotes: "The moment people start telling jokes about it, that's the moment they start to heal." "As a clown, you need to accept everything. If you say to a clown, 'Hey, you looked like an idiot,' he says, 'thank you.'" "You only can start to swim when you are in the water. You can't swim when you are out of the water." "Humor is like a scalpel. You can save a life with it, but you can also kill somebody with it. It's just the way you use it." "As a leader, it's not about me; it's about the people I lead, my company, my brand, and all other stakeholders."

In this episode, my guest and I dive into the critical aspects of planning business exits, emphasizing the need for consistency and structure. The episode highlights the importance of preparing for exit strategies 3-5 years in advance to ensure predictability in valuation. The role of strategic planning and advisors in facilitating this process is vital. A key point is the significance of having a structured advisory board, even for small businesses, to maintain accountability and effective planning. This team, including CPAs, financial planners, and attorneys, plays a pivotal role in guiding business owners through the nuances of exit strategy, offering valuable advice on tax and financial matters to position them for a successful negotiation and minimize risks. We also explore various exit strategies, with a particular focus on the benefits of an options strategy over a single-event exit. This approach, backed by expert advice from CPAs, attorneys, tax advisors, and financial wealth advisors, aims to prevent regrets in the sale process. On todays episode of Bass Fishing for Noobs, Susie & Sean sit down with Kurt Smits to talk about DIY wiring electronics on your kayak. It can seem and feel overwhelming when trying to figure out how to wire everything together, but Kurt helps break things down in simpler terms. Some key things to keep in mind is to always refer to the user manual of each piece of equipment you're going to be running to determine what gauge wire and kind/size of fuses you will need. Not having the correct size of wire alone can greatly increase the risk of corrosion, overheating, or not having enough current going to the device. The second key thing to keep in mind is to keep connections as few and as simple as possible. Having a direct line running from the battery to the device is the best way to ensure there won't be any faults in the wiring. If you do need to connect wires, Kurt prefers to solder any and all connections. This creates a solid, metal connection to ensure the most complete connection. We take a brief look at how Kurt runs and manages his wiring system in his Hobie PA and has a nice, clean, and efficient way to mount and put wires and connections. Even if you're not an electrician or the thought of electricity might intimidate you, this is definitely an episode you'll want to check out!
