Tony and Lois are heading home from across the pond this week, so we are looking back at a historic ECW ppv, Anarchy Rulz 1999! It was the last match for Taz in ECW and, even though he was viewed at the beginning by the fans as a "sell out" and traitor, he was eventually honored and cheered as he lost the ECW title and shook hands with Mike Awesome at the end. Also, Rob Van Dam goes up against Balls Mahoney, Raven and Tommy Dreamer in a very reluctant tag team match, and, not to be outdone, there are appearance by Francine and Dawn Marie. It's time for Luke Pennock & Brendan Flaherty to review episode 197 and 198 of ECW, from February 4th & 11th, 1997! Witness the comeuppance of Dr. Death, a freckled vow by the Funker, the ECW debut of ponytailed Lance Storm (taking on Balls, no less), the formation of the Dudley Boys as we know them, and a dissection of what makes Joe Rogan so insufferable. It's all over the map and so full of tangents it should be... barely legal. And it's all on the new episode of Harcore Haven! Buy the shirt! Buy the shirt! Buy the shirt. It's sometimes nice to see "new people" being put in the main event, but not this time. Balls Mahoney ends up going one-on-one with Rob Van Dam to close the show and it was NOT GOOD. A SHOULD BE main event ECW Title match is actually near the middle of the card. It also goes from Taz defending against Masato Tanaka to a Three Way Dance when Mike Awesome gets involved...AND WINS! This will open the door to a HUGE controversy for ECW that involves WCW and the WWF as Taz is on his way out and, unbeknownst to anyone, so is Mike Awesome. There is an awesome opening contest between Lance Storm and Jerry Lynn. There's enough on this card to keep it from being completely unwatchable, but it was good ole crappy ECW. In the news, we discuss Eric Bischoff being fired from WCW, Sting's heel turn going horribly wrong, Taz leaving ECW, rumors regarding the NFL paying off WWF, and much more! The tribe of extreme has risen again! The year is 2006 and WWE has rebooted ECW. Recently Paul Heyman turned and helped the Big Show beat Rob Van Dam to become ECW Champion. Tommy Dreamer is upset that Paul Heyman turned his back on the people who helped make ECW successful. He wanted answers, instead he got a kiss from Paul Heyman and beat up by Test. As WWE ECW World Champion, The Big Show has invited The Undertaker to come to the land of extreme to challenge for the title! This would be one of the only appearances for The Undertaker in ECW. It is truly a sight to see The Undertaker make his entrance through the ECW crowd! CM Punk & Balls Mahoney tells us what makes them extreme, The Sandman doesn't like Mike Knox stopping Kelly Kelly's Expose, and Sabu out wrestles Stevie Richards in a normal singles match. WWE ECW sure was interesting to say the least. It's ironic that the main event was titled a Stairway to Hell match, because most of ECW was like watching pro wrestling from Hell. It wasn't all bad, though, as we got a decent ECW World Title match between Tommy Dreamer and Justin Credible, a great Four Corners match between Yoshihiro Tajiri, Mikey Whipwreck, Little Guido and Psicosis, Jerry Lynn and Steve Corino had a great match, and we've got a fantastic Six-Man Tag match. Rob Van Dam tries to drag Scotty Anton (the former Scotty Riggs) to a presentable match, Big Sal and Balls Mahoney have a turd, Rhino and Sandman beat each other up over the TV Title, and much more. In the news, we discuss the disastrous fallout of WCW Bash at the Beach 2000, a hellacious injury for Johnny "The Bull" Stamboli, a future WWE star debuting in OVW, the drama between ECW, WWF, and TNN, plus much more! The one and only WW-ECW PPV is on deck today. Can the blend of ECW Originals and a new breed of stars mesh well here? We'll find out as the ECW World Title is defended inside an Extreme Elimination Chamber with Bobby Lashley, Big Show, Test, Rob Van Dam, Hardcore Holly (Replacing an injured Sabu) and CM Punk. Plus, Tommy Dreamer takes on Davari, Balls Mahoney and Matt Striker go at it and The Hardy's take on Johnny Nitro & Joey Mercury and so much more.
It was a hot one Dayton for Extreme Championship Wrestling. For as much as the Marks (Troy & Greg) disliked many things about ECW, they didn't dislike this event. In full heel form, the Dudley Boyz nearly start a riot with a blistering promo on the crowd right before defending the World Tag-Team Titles against Balls Mahoney and Spike Dudley. Besides that, a chibi Steve Corino is all over this show, Tommy Dreamer feints retirement, Taz is out for blood against "The Japanese Buzzsaw" Yoshihiro Tajiri, and RVD and Jerry Lynn make strange bedfellows as they take on the Impact Players, much to the chagrin of Sabu. Besides the event itself, the Marks are talking Sable suing the WWF over her name, then-governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura agreeing to referee the main event at SummerSlam, WCW financially and creatively going down the poop tubes, and much more!FOLLOW US ON TWITTER & INSTAGRAM:@MainEvent_MarksFOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK:www.facebook.com/maineventmarkspodSEARCH FOR US ON YOUTUBE: Main Event Marks--- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/appSupport this podcast: https://anchor.fm/mainevent-marks/support Learn more about your ad choices.
