Day 20 of 90 - Be Devoted to the Work Nobody Sees Ezra 7:1-10   The Bible tells us in the book of Ezra that he was committed: First, he rebuilt the altar. Second, he rebuilt the temple. After these things happened, the people returned. Today, before you work on more of your business plan, rebuild your altar. What does your devotional life look like? Could it be that God will not release the provision you need to make this thing work until you are able to increase your ALTAR time?   Evaluating Your Devotional Life The premise asks, “What does your devotional life look like?” How would you honestly answer that question right now? The Unseen Work of Purpose Who in your life models faithfulness to the unseen work of devotion? What have you learned from them?

The Doane's have introduced what they are referring to as the seven pillars of Catholic discipleship. The third pillar is, “Be Devoted to Prayer.” The Saints, who are models of Catholic discipleship , highlighted the importance of prayer, and what exactly prayer consisted of during their journey. This week the Doane's share the five reasons why we do pray, and then give practical advice on how to develop your prayer life. This broadcast will help listeners learn, how to become disciples who pray!

In this episode, we continue with part three of our series on the identity of Bride: Faithful and Honoring Love. We discuss where we have been wounded or where we have wounded others and how that affects current relationships. We chat about how being guarded can inhibit vulnerability and how to navigate our blocks to grow in intimacy. We offer insights into how to come before the Lord with our preconceived ideas and allow Him to speak the truth, as well as how to maintain fidelity in relationships. This week, let us not resign ourselves to mediocrity, but recommit to loving well.  Sister Miriam's one thing - Tweet about faithful married love Heather's one thing - Restore the Glory Episode 35 “Healing in Marriage with Heather Khym” Michelle's one thing - “Be Devoted” by Dr. Bob Schuchts, “Intimate Allies” by Dan Allender and Tremper Longman III, and “Men, Women, and the Mystery of Love” by Dr. Edward Sri   Discussion Questions:       What stood out to you from this week's episode? What wounded parts of your early story might you be bringing into current relationships that inhibit your ability to love and be loved fully? Have you had an experience of a healthy, loving relationship in your life that has brought restoration to previous hurts? How has witnessing faithfulness is a loving relationship, whether in your life or in the life of others, given you hope? Vows need to be lived out daily. If you're married or consecrated, how do you live out your vows daily? If you're not married, allow yourself to sit at the feet of those who share. Journal Questions: In what relationship do you need God to give you the gift of hope? What ways do you tend to run away in your relationships? What would it be like if you chose not to run? Ponder where you bring your desires that aren't being met. Take some time to offer those desires to Jesus? “We are better in community”. Who makes you a better person? Offer some prayers of thanksgiving and blessing for them.   Quotes to Ponder:  “Nothing cools love quite like resigning oneself to mediocrity.” - Fr. Jacques Philippe   Scripture for Lectio Divina: “Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper as his partner.” So out of the ground the Lord God formed every animal of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all cattle, and to the birds of the air, and to every animal of the field; but for the man[a] there was not found a helper as his partner. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then he took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one shall be called Woman, for out of Man this one was taken.” Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and clings to his wife, and they become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked, and were not ashamed. - Genesis 2:18-25      This episode is sponsored by Scapulars.com. In the early evening Sami heard him come through the door. What would her evening be like? Lately Bob had been argumentative, short tempered and aggressive. As he came through the door his tone set the stage for what in a few minutes would turn into confrontation. Bob's tones got louder, and Sami put her hands up and circled offline firmly saying, “Whoa slow down I don't want to fight.” This was a technique she had learned in her HAPKIDO training, and it worked. Jasper, their Golden Retriever cocked his head and for a moment both Bob, and Jasper were riveted. Sami had managed to slow the escalation of Bob's anger, and stop his advance, doing it firmly standing her ground, and not backing down. Bob broke into tears all at once as he related to Sami that he was an ass, and had been having an affair over the past few months. Sami relaxed her hands and just listened. Although she loved him, she explained that he would have to leave, and they would meet next week to determine what would happen next. Bob started to make excuses and Sami reiterated, “I need you to leave. Now!” Her firm tone showed FEARLESS DEVOTION, not anger. Interestingly enough, Sami was unafraid, and at that moment actually saw Bob as small, and weak. Sami was DEVOTED to the truth, a peaceful outcome, and she would no longer accept his behavior, his infidelity, or this way of life. In self-defense our DEVOTION is to the out come. Instead of arguing, escalating, or attacking, her Sabum (Korean for Sensei) had taught her to look beyond her natural response and be DEVOTED FEARLESSLY to her future. This same scenario happens in domestic disputes on a regular basis, and with emotional escalation, ends many times in injury, property damage, or death. As WARRIORS of LIFE we choose to set aside our emotional responses, when appropriate, and look toward the future, and the big picture of life. Be DEVOTED to life! FEARLESSLY DEVOTED to life. For if I cause you sorrow, who then makes me glad but the one whom I made sorrowful? This is the very thing I wrote you, so that when I came, I would not have sorrow from those who ought to make me rejoice; having confidence in you all that my joy would be the joy of you all. For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears; not so that you would be made sorrowful, but that you might know the love which I have especially for you. 2 Peter 2:10-22 - False Teachers & False Teaching Pt.2 - Bill Johnson False Teaching” in 2 Peter 2:1-10a Wherever the Truth of Jesus Christ is found, Satan will have someone there to deceive!    Satan uses people to do his dirty work.  He finds someone who will manipulate God’s word to do what they want to do, to have what they think they should have, or to satisfy themselves when all along they’re satisfying & serving Satan! Just enough Truth mixed in with the lies to make it sound convincing but it’s not of God. Don’t just listen to anyone!   1st John 4:1 tells us to test the spirits....  Do they affirm who Christ is? Do they confess Jesus as LORD?  It’s not enough to just believe! Is there evidence of the Holy Spirit in their lives? Are they being transformed? More Christlike? God’s Word said, “Beware of; Pay Careful attention to; Watch out for;  Guard yourselves against False Teachers/Teaching in the Body of Christ. False teachers are not always the Pastor! Don’t allow yourself to be Satan’s pawn by becoming a false teacher or allowing false teaching in the Church.   Strive to keep the Body of Christ pure and undefiled! Have the right relationship with Jesus and each other! Be DEVOTED to Jesus!   DEVOTED to God’s Word, To Fellowship, to Breaking Bread together, to Prayer. DEVOTED to Iron Sharpening Iron.  Living out the change that God is doing in you! Today we’re getting into the rest of Chapter 2. Part 2 of False Teachers and False Teaching ~ “Get the Picture!” 2 Peter 2:10-22 As I studied this scripture, I thought about Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple Cult which ended in a mass suicide by drinking poison Kool-Aid. Here’s the thing.... Jim Jones started out as a preacher and civil rights activist.  Ordained in 1957.  By the time the 70’s rolled around the Peoples Temple was located in San Francisco and was politically and socially active in the community...  Having over 3000 members... It seemed to be a successful Christian Church.   Somewhere along the way Satan got ahold of him and planted a False Gospel in his heart. Investigations took place about abuses by Jim Jones. In 1977 around about 1000 packed up and moved to Jamestown, Guyana with Jones. Nov 18th, 1978 he ordered everyone at the compound to drink Kool Aid laced with cyanide!  918 died, almost 1/3 were children. Then Jones shot himself in the head. Why didn’t they recognize what was going on? Why didn’t they see the drift from Christianity to Cult? Jim Jones was a False Teacher who taught his congregation the False Gospel that had poisoned his heart!  Both spiritually and literally, it poisoned those that followed HIM to Guyana. When they should have been following Jesus!! Peter’s goal was to equip us to stand on the Day of Judgement.    But he knew that there are those that only seek to, as our scripture says today: “seduce the unstable” or “entice unsteady souls”.  They are False Teachers with False Teaching! Peter has given them, and us, a warning... Today we’ll see Peter also gives us ways to Recognize the Deception by Recognizing the Deceiver!  How to identify a False Teacher and False Teaching. Peter gives us: A Picture of their Person... of Who they are! Then, Peter gives us: A Picture of their Performance... of What they do! Let’s walk through God’s Word together... Peter had warned of the Danger to growing Christians of following False Teachers and False Teaching.  He then went through this list of those who God had judged and condemned, and those that had been judged and found righteous and God protected. That’s where we’re going to pick it up today. I included vs9-10a for continuity from the 1st half of Ch 2 to the rest, but let’s take a quick look.   2 Peter 2:9-10a ~ if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day o...

Be Devoted in Love…and Honor One Another – Romans 12:10 What do these phrases mean? Why is this so important for us as believers? How can we actually do this? Questions: Did the Holy Spirit speak to you about anything today? What does your heart tell you when you ask it whether you love another believer without hypocrisy? When you say you love someone but don’t like them, how does the first part of verse 10 press against that?  What should you do to change your relationship into genuine family affection? What does it mean to out-do one another in showing honor? What are some reasons that loving and honoring each other are so important in the church?  Romans 12:1 says, “in view of God’s mercy…”. How do those words help us to love and honor? Give some specific ways that you can do the things verse 10 tells us to do.

Jesus invites us to see money from a new perspective. What if we saw money as a tool and saw ourselves as managers vs owners? Jesus is trying to teach his followers – borrow a lesson on shrewdness. Be determined and deliberate to recognize you have a little bit of time on this earth, you have a little bit of opportunity to leverage your temporary stuff for an eternal purpose and impact! Be Trustworthy. Be Devoted.

This is the second of 3 teachings on "Make everyday a 'D' Day" by Pastor Mathew Jones. "D"=decisive and we need to be people who are choosing life daily in God, and making the right decisions for our Christian lives. Pastor Mat provides three keys to achieving that in this teaching today: 1. Be Devoted  2. Be Disciplined  3. Be Determined.
