For the last episode of Season 2, we have none other than our own Kaitlyn Beagley, Client Coordinator extraordinaire at Allison Tyler Jones Photography. Since her start with ATJ in 2021, Kaitlyn has taken the client experience to a new level and continues to amaze me with her creative ideas that make every client feel special and confident. In our conversation today, we talk about a wide range and variety of ways we surprise and delight our clients at ATJ. Many of these initiatives are super simple to implement and can make a world of difference in the client experience. In this episode, you'll learn: Ways to make clients feel special with VIP treatment Initiatives that get clients back in the door without feeling pressured How to create a memorable experience for the whole family Here's a glance at this episode: [2:05] - Kaitlyn started working with ATJ in 2021 but began as a client. [3:07] - When she began working in the studio, she thought she had a good idea of what the process was like, but she learned what happens in the background. [4:35] - Kaitlyn describes the learning experience when it comes to calling clients to get them back in for portraits. [6:11] - The main challenge for Kaitlyn is discussing scheduling with some clients who don't realize the value of their own time. [7:40] - One way Kaitlyn goes the extra mile for clients is to know the schedules of the schools in the area and when families might have weekdays available. [9:03] - A recent initiative at ATJ Photo is texts sent to clients to update them on the status of their portraits. [11:09] - At ATJ Photo, Kaitlyn makes sure clients have VIP treatment with their own special parking spot and even refreshments. [13:33] - The second clients walk in, their confidence is boosted and the whole process is going to be great. [14:43] - Kaitlyn also asks parents questions about music their children like and creates a fun environment. [18:07] - Since Kaitlyn has started at ATJ Photo, she has added candy and treasure box items for kids that make them feel special and proud after their sessions. [21:09] - It is okay to reach out to clients a couple of times. Life is crazy. [22:45] - Overcommunicating is not a problem. Bill Beagley heard of Mercy Ships many years ago and soon was aching to volunteer. When he heard that his electrical skills were needed on the Global Mercy, he jumped at the opportunity. He was only on board for 30 days, but the impact of those precious days will last a lifetime. In this episode Bill talks about the major life transformation that had to happen before he was able to volunteer on the Global Mercy. He shares the blessing of the many new friends he met as well as the reward of being a part of the transformations that will occur on board next year. Volunteers like Bill are vital to fulfilling our mission, and because of prayerful and generous friends like you, we are able to help even more people find the hope and healing they desperately need. Every donation, every prayer, and every person can touch the lives of so many. Your donation makes a difference. This GivingTuesday, give the gift of hope to someone in need. Taking client phone calls can feel stressful. You want to make a good impression, while also gathering information and determining if you will be a good fit for their project. When you have more experience with client conversations, it's easy to forget just how hard you worked to get comfortable taking calls and walking clients through your process. That's why we knew now would be the perfect time to bring ATJ's newest Client Coordinator, Kaitlyn Beagley, onto the podcast to talk about her process for learning and strengthening her first contact with potential clients. Having been on the ATJ team for less than a year, Kaitlyn is still in the trenches and understands the fears you need to overcome to create a fabulous first phone call for yourself and the client. Kaitlyn's experience and advice will help you take your client contact to the next level, even if they don't book a session, this level of customer service and attention will make potential clients feel seen, heard and a little bit spoiled. And if they do book, it starts the relationship off right and sets you up for success! In this episode, you'll learn how to: Use a booking form to gather information for yourself and the client Begin developing a client relationship from the very first phone call Schedule multiple appointments at one time Improve your skills through self-development and reflection Create crystal clear expectations with clients over the phone Here's a glance at this episode: [2:28] - Welcome to the show, Kaitlyn! Kaitlyn is the youngest and newest member of ATJ Photography. [3:44] - Starting out as a client, Kaitlyn shares what surprised her when working behind the scenes. [5:35] - When starting in this new position, Kaitlyn observed phone calls and explains how she took notes to learn. [6:27] - You can download the booking form that ATJ Photography uses that guides you through the booking phone call. [8:10] - Sometimes, Kaitlyn also records her own phone calls to review on her own to improve. [9:28] - When speaking with potential clients, begin with the end in mind. [11:19] - The first phone call is not only an interview with you as a service provider, but for us to interview them. [12:28] - Even if a client doesn't book after the first call, they need to feel that they were heard. It is the start of a relationship. [13:41] - Be clear and kind. Stop and smile before you answer the phone. [15:09] - People can tell if you are not truly listening. [17:54] - During the first call, Kaitlyn books three appointments at one time - the consultation, the shoot, and the viewing. [19:09] - Kaitlyn begins with scheduling the photo session. [21:18] - Allison has enough information on the booking form to have a foundation with the client without having to start the conversation over. [23:20] - When talking about pricing, Kaitlyn starts with a bottom pricing to let clients know what it will be at the least. [24:40] - If you are a solopreneur, you can use the booking form as a phone consultation. [26:27] - The booking form is an excellent guide and if you're asked a question you are unsure how to answer, pause and let them know. [28:18] - Don't just assume the client can talk if they answer the phone. Strike when the iron is hot and know that they have a few minutes to talk about their project. [30:02] - The booking form has been updated, so even if you've already downloaded it in the past, double check that you have the most recent one. As kids, we've all been asked the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” The answer to this question might change as we grow older, but in many ways the ideas we have early in life have an impact on our decisions as adults–just not in the ways that we might originally think. In the experience of today's podcast guest, that rings especially true. Traci Beagley knew early on that she wanted to own her own business, but through the ups, downs, and curveballs in life, her life and her business trajectory went through some drastic changes. So what do we do when life doesn't turn out quite like we imagined? Today's guest is Traci Beagley, CEO of Sunland Home Care & Medical in Arizona. She's my long-time friend and confidante and together we have the most transformational conversations. I'm sharing one of our conversations with you today in the hope that it will lift you and inspire you to think about what to do when life turns out differently than you'd originally planned. Listen as Traci shares her entrepreneurial background, the life-changing experiences that changed her mindset, and her continuous learning journey. In this episode, you'll learn how to: Ask for help even when it is hard to do Normalize failure for yourself and your team Facilitate the growth of others Acknowledge Imposter Syndrome and move to overcome it Love your unique journey and continuous growth Here's a glance at this episode: [3:03] - Traci shares her background and what she envisioned for herself growing up in a family of entrepreneurs. [5:00] - Although she works in a field she didn't expect, Traci and Allison own their own businesses which is exactly what they sought out to do. [6:43] - It's important to think about the different seasons of your life. Different aspects of your life will need more attention at different times. [8:00] - Traci shares the major life experiences that changed her trajectory. [9:04] - Asking for help can be hard, but Traci realized the impact of showing vulnerability. [11:14] - We all have foundational experiences that change how we view things. [12:29] - Normalizing failure is important in your business, especially if you are leading a team. [13:31] - Traci recommends a book called The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy and the courses the author offers as well. [14:23] - Facilitating the growth of others is important to Traci in her business and she finds an immense amount of joy in doing this. [17:01] - In a previously owned business, Traci realized she didn't feel gratified like she does now in senior care. [20:40] - Allison has taken photos of Traci and her family since the start of her business in 2005. Traci has seen the progress over the years. [22:21] - Allison shares the experience that made her realize that you can have everything you want but maybe not all at the same time. [23:43] - Imposter syndrome played a big role in Traci's career in the beginning, but now she focuses on stepping into her role as an expert in her space. [25:54] - Staying in self-doubt is actually self-indulgent. [26:47] - As an achiever, Traci admits that it is exhausting to view her expertise as attached to the next step in her journey. [28:38] - Are you living your mission? Your mission can and should change over the years. [29:43] - The term “journey” is fluid. It gives you the opportunity to learn, explore, and get to know yourself more. [31:51] - Your trauma, experiences, and the healing journey you are on creates the inspiration to give back. [33:15] - Sometimes we doubt ourselves, but ask yourself, “Why not me?” [34:42] - Put your team first and your customers will be happier, too. [37:02] - There are a lot of great things in Traci's future, but she's pausing to figure out what the right path is for her. Traci shares how Sunland's home care services help older adults safely stay in their homes and combat loneliness during Covid-19, and how a cancer diagnosis allows her to go deeper with her clients. About Traci Traci Ahlstrom Beagley has been the Managing Partner of Sunland Home Care since its inception. In 1958, her great-grandfather and grandfather, Joe and Ross Farnsworth, built the first 55+ active adult community in the East Valley in Arizona. Since then, her father, Craig Ahlstrom, Sr. has developing several active adult communities in Mesa. Many of her memories growing up, involve serving and working with seniors. Sixty years later, she is following her family legacy. Traci graduated with a Bachelor's of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree from Arizona State University with an emphasis on Business and Communication. In 2009, Traci opened Accent! Window Treatments. Her entrepreneurial spirit built a successful company that sold after five years. Then, in 2016, she was ready to start another company, Sunland Home Care. She has been actively involved in all aspects of the business. In 2018, Traci was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Although it has been difficult to fight the disease, she feels the experience has given her insight with seniors in a deeper and more meaningful way. Key Takeaways A 2016 AARP study shows that loneliness is costing the Medicare System 7 billion dollars a year. There is a trend toward “hospital at home”—it is less emotionally and psychologically disruptive and studies show it is less expensive. Despite the explosion in telehealth, Sunland offers private duty nursing and medical doctor appointments because there is no substitute for face-to-face interaction.
Recently on our podcasts we discussed abuse in sport and more specifically in Wrestling. This week we turn to Ballet. Ballet students, as with many sports, start at a young age. Those focussing on such a career may attend specialist schools and spend hours alone with coaches forming strong bonds in the hope of progressing their career. We previously discussed the risks of coach - student relationships and the NSPCC campaign ‘Close the Loophole’ (#CloseTheLoophole) which aims to change the law regarding positions of trust to be extended to include any adult (in this scenario coaches) who holds a position of power over sixteen or seventeen year-olds. In the summer of 2020 a ballet school in Scotland became the centre of a probe into claims of ‘inappropriate sexual behaviour’ by staff member, Jonathan Barton, towards students. Victims stated how the teacher targeted the quiet vulnerable girls. One victim confirmed how Barton would message her, which slowly increased to asking her to attend his room at night. Barton and the student entered a sexual relationship when she was just sixteen. ITV News investigated and heard from more than sixty women alleging abuse going back as far as 2004 and as recently as 2018. This resulted in the resignation of Barton. Such reports again highlights safeguarding issues for children in the sports world and further areas where children spend significant time unsupervised with adults. These allegations in the Ballet world quickly follow the 2019 news headlines that former Royal Ballet star, Stephen Beagley, sexually abused girls he taught in private lessons. This resulted in him being jailed for ten years. Beagley was convicted of abusing three girls aged nine, ten and twelve during private ballet lessons between 1997 and 2010. He pleaded guilty to five counts of sexual assault, two charges of indecent assault and one of causing a child to engage in sexual activity. Beagley was sentenced at Lewes Crown Court. Beagley was a well known talented dancer and had held lead roles in Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, Cats and performed with Freddie Mercury. For many years Beagley was a guest teacher and the head of the adult ballet programme for the English National Ballet. He had taught around the world including Italy, America, Australia and Hong Kong. With such experience and skill he would have been held in high regard to his students and placed in a position of trust. As with many abusers, he would have used his position to manipulate his victims. A victim states "Beagley targeted the young girls he came into contact with and abused them while they were at their most vulnerable over many years." Again abuse in sport or these types of institutions require exposure and sufficient safeguarding measures to stop predators. At the time of writing, further media articles have disclosed abuse by coaches in cycling and tennis, once again highlighting the lack of safety in sporting industries. Bradie Beagley-Reiner went through an incredibly stressful process in the crackdown of vacation rentals in San Diego, California. And in hindsight, she realized that a whole new kind of sharing economy sits within just beneath the surface: something we can all begin doing before it's too late. The instinct of independent vacation rental professionals is not always to get together with their competitors or share information with the other stakeholders in town. But in listening to Bradie's tactic, you may see things in an entirely new light. If you want to innovate like Bradie, consider a demo with our friends at PointCentral (free HVAC Analytics included from this landing page): https://www.pointcentral.com/vrmb/ Here are some links mentioned in the episode: http://vacationrentalwomen.com https://www.bluewatervacationhomes.com https://www.liverez.com
