Our guest on today's episode is Super Bowl Champion Lori Locust. Lori is a pioneer in the football world, and became the Assistant Defensive Line Coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019. Lori has been a football fan her whole life, and began coaching after playing semi-professional women's football for four seasons. She joined the Buccaneers after working as the assistant defensive line coach for the Birmingham Iron of the Alliance of American Football during the league's inaugural season. In 2018, she gained incredibly valuable experience working as a defensive line coaching intern for the Baltimore Ravens during the team's training camp and had previously coached a variety of teams at the high school and semi-professional level. Lori has an incredible story, and we think you'll all enjoy hearing from her about how she overcame the odds to pursue a career coaching football at the highest level. Let's go!
Veteran sportswriter and Birmingham, AL native Scott Adamson (The Home Team: My Bromance with Off-Brand Football) joins the pod to discuss his curious decades-long relationship with the various attempts at rooting pro football in the "Magic City." Birmingham's venerable Legion Field - known legendarily as the "Football Capital of the South" for its long-time association with the annual Alabama-Auburn "Iron Bowl" college season-ender - has also been home base for a parade of franchises in virtually every major challenger pro football league since the 1970s, including: The World Football League "World Bowl" champion Birmingham Americans (1974); 1975's de facto title-winning Birmingham Vulcans of the reincarnated second edition WFL; The USFL's perennially competitive Birmingham Stallions (1983-85); The World League of American Football's Birmingham Fire (1991-92); 1995's Birmingham Barracudas of the Canadian Football League; The woeful Birmingham Thunderbolts of 2001's original XFL; AND The playoff-qualifying Birmingham Iron of the 2019's short-lived Alliance of American Football Adamson helps us dig into Birmingham's checkered history with the pro game, the pathology of its fandom over that time, why the city is reliably found on new/startup league short lists, and whether the XFL's return in 2022 might portend yet another chance - this time with a brand new Protective Stadium as a lure.

We have a fun one on deck for all you listeners including an all-new segment! Even though the AAF almost folded a week ago, we're still all in. Jimi's "team" the Birmingham Iron are still undefeated, and he tried to convince and to #ForgeOn with him. We also discuss Christian Hackenberg's fall from grace and look at a few more prominent teams. Next, you get your first taste of our college basketball opinions. It's been a busy week in college basketball with Zion Williamson's injury, upsets, and Gonzaga's emergence as a powerhouse once again. Andy gives you his pretenders and contenders in the top-15, and we talk about the parody you're seeing throughout the nation. The NHL has the busiest trade deadline in pro sports, and this season was no different. Listen to see how we think each team's trade impacts the playoff race, and where we see the Penguins after acquiring another defenseman. It's time to draft ... sports movies! We picked a number of our favorite sports movies and drafted them to build our ultimate movie team. Who do you think has the best lineup of sports movies? What's are your favorites? We close out our fantasy positional recap with a look back at the quarterback position in 2018. Who was the top QB in our league? Who do we think will drop out and rise into the top 10 in 2019? Our show closes with our one awesome thing in sports. Jimi has a story about one of the best hockey announcers ever, and Andy shows some respect to a future NBA Hall-of-Famer.

There are a few folks with ECU ties who are involved in the new league and we had the chance to catch up with a couple of them. We discussed numerous aspects of the AAF with Greg Herring, who is the VP of Marketing with the Memphis Express while also hearing from former ECU All-Conference tight end and current Arizona Hotshot Bryce Williams. The Pirates also have former quarterback Philip Nelson with the San Diego Fleet and we look forward to catching up with the talented signal-caller down the road. ECU Hall of Fame coach Steve Logan is the OC with the Birmingham Iron. This week Mark and Jason discuss the issues with Alabama basketball and how we might make a run to get in the NCAA tournament. Then they discuss the snafu with the NFC Championship Game with the no call and the stupid call that ref ball licker Tom Brady got in the AFC Championship Game. Finally on to the Alliance of American Football and the coaches of the Birmingham Iron and what they did before joining the team and needless to say most of them are not that impressive. Hope you Enjoy

As Birmingham has been a favored test market for rogue/alternate professional football leagues since the 1970s, Scott has seen them all come down the pike. His tells us some about his current interest in the up-and-coming American Alliance of Football (including the Birmingham Iron franchise) and its potential effect on the CFL.
