In this episode, we get meta with Zack interviewing Lawyerist's own podcast editor and consultant, Britany Felix. They talk about pitching yourself as a guest, using that appearance in your law firm marketing, and building an audience with your own podcast. Britany discusses how to look and feel professional both in your pitches and your appearances. And we get into how podcasts don't necessarily need to be about the law to benefit your marketing strategy. Running a podcast production business can be hard. We know it can be hard to balance all the things that need to get done in order for your podcast production business to grow and thrive. But we also know how important it is not let those things take over your life, so you don't end up looking back years later and realizing everything was out of balance, that you're unhealthy, and that your kids and cats hate you. That's why we're here to share our tips on keeping your podcast production business balanced without letting it take over! You'll learn about ways you can keep yourself sane while still running a successful company. Listen now as we share our tips for keeping your podcast production business balanced without letting it take over. You'll learn about ways you can keep yourself focused on what matters most, like family time or exercise, while still making sure there are enough hours in the day for work. Listen to DiscoverWhat we might be missing when it looks like other people are just crushing it in their businesses. What we need to remind ourselves of when we start comparing ourselves to others. How being a business owner instead of an employee can make this comparison game and the never-ending race to the undefined finish even worse. What we need to define as business owners so that we can begin to set boundaries that are healthy. How each of the Yetis struggle with boundaries and healthy use of their time in different ways. What we should look for instead of balance (hat tip tohttps://podcastingforcoaches.com/ ( Britany Felix)). Some of the things we juggle besides podcast production work and family. The value of estimating how much time will be needed to complete something (even if it's wrong). How regular check-ins with a business partner or trusted friend can make a difference. How sometimes bringing someone in to accomplish a single short-term goal can make all the difference in freeing up time both now and later. Some hacks to help get as much done as quickly as possible when you're at you best (and how to protect client deadlines using margin). Planning for surge capacity. Using a “probability to break” thought exercise to identify what to work on first. Overediting may be one of the most polarizing subjects in the podcasting space. There are many that firmly believe that removing um, uh, like, y'know, lip smacks, and other inaudibles makes the conversation sound less natural, while others believe it's the job of a good podcast editor to remove fillers that waste the listener's time whenever necessary. In Episode 120 of Pod Theory, the goal is to bring you the truth about overediting and provide some clarity on what should be removed during editing...and what should be left as is because it contributes to the conversation. To do this, I invited podcasting expert and editing extraordinaire Britany Felix to the show. Britany is the Founder of Podcasting For Coaches and, in addition to helping people produce a polished, well-edited final podcast, she also hosts her own podcast (also called Podcasting For Coaches) where she brings her years of knowledge to the mic alongside other podcasting professionals who do the same. This was a great conversation that covered a metric ton of good ground about the editing process. We also took a hard look at podcasting as a whole and where things are headed for the medium and those leveraging it for their brands. And, for some added fun, a spirited bout of Poddeck Pandemonium broke out, too.You can connect with Britany at podcastingforcoaches.com and follow Podcasting For Coaches wherever you download your favorite shows!Buzzsprout: Podcasting's #1 Hosting SiteClick Here to Sign Up For Buzzsprout and Receive a $20 Amazon Gift Card! What's the most powerful way to leverage podcasting today?Click Here to Learn About My Comprehensive Podcast Communications ServiceConnect with The Host - Jason CerconeWebsite | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube | PinterestIn need of deeper podcast counsel? Podcast editors: Do you want more clients? If you're like most of us, you're almost always on the lookout for new clients and new ways to attract and connect with them so that we can grow our businesses. But what happens when we attract the WRONG clients? Well, it's not good. It can ruin our businesses and our lives. Literally. But it doesn't have to be that way. Listen as Britany Felix of https://podcastingforcoaches.com (Podcasting for Coaches) joins us to share what she's learned about attracting the right clients (for her), how she manages relationships with professionalism but keeps the boundaries clear, how she screens clients (hint...it can start well before your first conversation), and how she knows when it's time to make a drastic change. Listen to discover: The story of a client who was such a bad fit, one error ruined a vacation, damaged trust irreparably, and sometimes still has her looking for a place to hide. That you really CAN set your own rules for how you'd like to work with your clients. Not only WHO you'd like to work with but also how quickly you'll turn around their edits, and even what happens if they are late with their files. One change that Britany made to ensure she never gets a bad-fit client again. The red flags Britany looks for when she's on an initial call. How Britany stands out from the crowd when she's responding to a prospective client. Her uncommon approach to pricing her editing services. How Britany now often has people paying her LONG BEFORE she ever considers working with them as an editor. How she manages https://www.wrike.com/project-management-guide/faq/what-is-scope-creep-in-project-management/ (scope creep) and resets expectations when needed. And much, much more. If you're looking to grow your podcast editing business in a way that allows you to stay sane, balance your personal life and goals, and service your clients well, you need to listen to this. I first came across the name Britany Felix in the Podcast Editors Club Facebook group. Britany was someone who always had a thoughtful answer for questions posed to the group. We actually met in person last summer in Orlando at Podcast Movement and have interacted much more lately on social media. I'm thrilled to have her as today's guest.Britany takes me through a journey I know all too well -getting tired of a corporate job and discovering podcasting, podcast consulting, and podcast editing. And she doesn't beat around the bush when it comes to discussing her transition. As her business grew, Britany learned that there were certain types of people - and personalities - she worked best with. This led her to carving out a niche for herself in creating podcasts for various coaches. We take a deep dive into the tough moments and decisions that often need to be made when owning your own podcasting business - including when you have to turn money away. (Spoiler: its never easy.)We also discuss travel, how COVID-19 has affected the podcasting space, and preview the upcoming virtual Podfest event this August.Resources:Britany Felix's Website: https://www.podcastingforcoaches.com/Podfest Website: https://podfestexpo.com/JAG in Detroit Website: https://jagindetroit.com/

“My clients think I’m a wizard. I don’t think they know entirely what I do. They just know that I do it…. What I actually do is polish people’s podcasts interviews to save everybody time.” ~Carrie Caulfield Arick, YaYa Podcasting Four podcast editors walk into a bar… Nah, that’s not what happened at all. We got together where you’d expect us to - on a podcast, of course! Wait! Before you go all “Meh. I’m not an editor so why should I listen?” on this episode, hear me out. You will become a better client and a better podcaster after listening to Carrie Caulfield Arick of YaYa Podcasting, Jennifer Longworth of Bourbon Barrel Podcasting, and Podcasting For Coaches’ Britany Felix. There’s room for everyone at this podcast editors roundtable! My guests agree that it’s difficult to make family and friends - let alone clients - understand what an editor does. Other aspects of their work are more familiar: consulting, producing, networking, teaching… there’s more; my guests are busy! But it’s the role of editor that seems to mystify most. People have no idea what we do to make someone’s raw audio file audience-ready. In their minds, an editor either does nothing (grumble, grumble) or performs magic (thanks, but...there’s no fairy dust here). Maybe it’s because, as humans, we’ve been talking all our lives that people think, how hard can it be to record what we say and have it come out the other end sounding intelligent and natural? If you’re not an editor, you’d be surprised. Whether you’re an intrepid DIY podcaster, a turn-key client, or just a faithful listener, you’ll want to listen in as four editor ladies get together on a podcast. Britany started her career while working a full-time job, renovating her house, and planning to go location Independent. All of this meant minimal sleep for several months. While Britany says owning a business is still hard, it’s a very different kind of hard. The determination that got her through those first few months taught her to push through and believe in her success. As entrepreneurs, we have to keep an eye out to make sure that we’re not working every waking hour. When you love what you do it’s really easy to say "I don’t need hobbies, I enjoy my work and it’s enough". Only it’s not enough. We need to relax we need to wind down, we need to take time to refresh. The push that gets us going, that gets us stabilized in our businesses, eventually no longer serves us. Eventually, we need to step back and enjoy what we’ve created. For most of us, we start out priced too low. And many of us keep those prices too low. We have this idea of the struggling freelancer and we've got to let that go. Britany says that every time she raises her prices, which she does 3 to 4 times a year, she gets a new client at her new rates almost immediately. When was the last time you raised your rates? Who is Britany? Britany Felix is a 30-something woman who wants to inspire you to live the life you truly want to live—not the one you're conditioned to live. She wants to help you find your freedom! In the Spring of 2016, she and her husband quit the highest paying jobs they’d ever had, sold almost everything they owned (including their home), and began traveling the Western United States in their RV. Britany is the host of the travel podcast, Living Unconventionally, and the owner of Custom Podcast Editing where she helps everyday people discover the power of podcasting and how to get their message out into the world. Living Unconventionally podcast covers her personal Freedom Journey and features weekly interviews with like-minded people—incredible people who’ve ditched their desk, or traditional life, to chase their passions and explore the world. Quotes from Britany I think success is being happy— whatever is going to make you happy. If that’s a ton of money in the bank so you can feel secure, then that’s success for you. If it’s having the time freedom or location freedom to work wherever you want, or not work whenever you want, and from anywhere in the world, which is what my version of success looks like. You know it’s different for everybody but when it comes down to it, it’s just being happy with the life that you live on a daily basis. (6:15) You know I started reading these travel blogs and started listening to podcasts and started following entrepreneurs who had businesses around this type of subject and I just consumed so much of it until I believed wholeheartedly that I could do it. If all these other could do it then, why can’t I? And so that’s always what I recommend to other people because they think everyone else can have it but they can’t and that’s not true. So you just have to keep consuming information of people doing what you want to do until it sinks in that it’s possible for you as well. (16:32) What You’ll Learn How inspiration from others living successful, unconventional lifestyles had helped spur her to quit her day job in order to travel with her husband How traits like determination and persistence are necessary to achieve one's means How creating a podcast of her own has changed her life for the better Ironically, she's never read lifestyle design manifesto Four Hour Work Week Resources and How to Connect: Britany's Websites: LivingUnconventially.com, CustomPodcastEditing.com Social Media: Facebook and Twitter Resources Mentioned: ChrisGuillebeau.com, SuitcaseEntrepreneur.com Other Listening Options: Individual player or full player view on website: http://lorirochino.com/podcast-2/

Britany is the host of the Living Unconventionally podcast where she talks to people living in an unconventional way. She recently took a many month road trip after she and her husband sold all of their possessions as well as their house. However, a little bit into it, the husband didn't like it nearly as much as she did. We talk about relationships and travel as well as what to do when you partner isn't too crazy about travel. Since it was only a few weeks before the interview it was still fresh in her mind but it as still interesting to hear about the solutions.

In this season four finale of the Travel Stories Podcast, Hayden is joined by Nicole (his writer) and Cody (his composer) to look back over the season, share outtakes, and talk about the upcoming fifth season. They weave through every episode and discuss what they thought about the guests and the stories, bringing in recaps and flashbacks to the highlights of each episode. You’ll remember this season featured Tom Butler, Sarah Miduski, Tania Aebi, Nate Buchanan, Britany Felix, Frank Salas, Leon Logothetis, Ladan Jiracek, Justin Walter, Cody Crabb, and Mike Corey. The gang shares their favorite episodes and moments from this season. In their rambling discussions, the gang talks about the same themes that they see cropping up in every episodes, and the vein they see running through all the themes and episodes this season. They talk about what traveling means to them, then start devolving into a conversation about expectations versus reality, making experiences positive or negative, and how this plays into travel. They discuss traveling with children and travel aesthetics. The gang has fun together, bantering and joking around, as well as dragging each other and wholeheartedly (and savagely) mocking one another. The team also discusses the unreality of thinking they have actual listeners and actual fans. In their conversation, they revisit past guests and fans, like Billy from last season and what he’s been up to. Hayden brings some outtakes to share, as well - such as one where Hayden and Nicole roast Cody when his connection dropped during an episode. Their big finish features discussing what’s coming up in season five. Coming up next season we have a name change: we are becoming Backpack Digital. Our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram handles, as well as our website name, are all changing to backpackdigital to reflect this. We’re also expanding to include more than just podcasts. We have more inspiring travel-related content coming your way, so stay tuned! The podcast itself is changing, as well: the intro is changing, we’re getting new artwork, and the format is going to be split up. We’ll break up the interview and the story into two separate episodes for easy listening. We’re also releasing a book during season five: Nicole’s novel Venus , a novel about two young women who go on an adventure, searching for an escape and for a way to discover who they are as people. Along the way, they figure out who they are, they fall in love, and they learn that the journey is sometimes better than the destination. If you stay tuned all the way until the end of the episode, you can find some bonus outtakes of Hayden being a mushmouth. We look forward to bringing you forward to season five come late March. Learning how to live a life that is exclusively yours versus the life that you believe you are supposed to live is an essential part of your growth, not just as a traveler, but as a person. Britany Felix has taken a long road to living her life as she wants to, but she has made it all the way to being the person and traveler she wants to be. Her message is to live unconventionally. Britany joins Hayden from Colorado, at the base of the Rocky Mountains. She talks about compromising on settling down when you travel with others, how to have adventures without traveling very far, and how to live your life the way you want to. Hayden brings up how he creates a checklist in order to decide what he will and will not do. Britany also shares the story of her own life, and how she did research on the life she wanted to live and how she grew to achieve her dreams. Britany also brings her travel story, the aptly-named “Parisian Roller Coaster of Emotion,” in which she weaves the tale of her first trip out of her home country, to France. While she and her new husband were there, they immediately encountered several unfortunate incidents, then a few positive experiences, in a true roller coaster of highs and lows, ups and downs, a tumultuous ride through their Parisian vacation. Britany used the experience to teach herself how to use the negative emotions that come with such unfortunate events like these ones. Becoming the person you want to be is a long road, but, if you do not take the first step on the path, you can never reach your destination. Britany is living proof that, with the right research and journey, you can be the traveler - and the person - that you want to be. All you have to do is live a little unconventionally. In this episode, Hayden and Britany Felix discuss: Traveling full-time versus traveling part-time. Hayden asks Britany how to compromise on settling down when you travel with partners or other companions. Finding adventures in the place you grew up in or the place that you were in at the moment. You can travel all over the world, because you never think of the place you are in as being a destination, but everywhere is a foreign place to people who are not from there. The concept of living your life the way you want to, not the way you are supposed to. Hayden brings up how he makes up a checklist to decide whether or not to do something. How to free up your life and to feel the freedom and happiness that adventurers who share their stories, like Britany, feel when they travel. Traditional ways of living, and how to incorporate your life with your desire to travel. Britany shares her personal story of how she was able to achieve her dream of traveling and adventuring, and how she made herself happy through research. Britany recommends The Art of Non-Conformity, by Chris Guillebeau, the book that really sparked the change in her.
Britany Felix sold practically everything to spend two months exploring the Western United States. She hosts the Living Unconventionally podcast where she interviews people who’ve ditched their traditional life to chase their passions around the world and she hopes to inspire others to live a life that truly fulfills them. Britany joins the podcast this week to talk about her experience downsizing from a two-thousand-square-foot house into a small pull behind camper to travel the western United States. She talks about how friends and some wine and Facebook Garage Sales helped her declutter her life. We talk about how you handle the sentimental things that you have inherited over the years from friends and family. Britany tells us a bit about her two week period of life on the road and her podcast Living Unconventionally helped her to make the final push to start creating a life she wanted with her husband. Britany answers a few of my questions on how to get started on your own journey. She also gives us information she has gleaned from over 100 interviews with people who have gotten off the 9-5 track and now find themselves living unconventionally. Take a listen to this week's podcast and enjoy learning about Britany and her podcast (and ebook) Living Unconventionally. We're always talking about how important training is to any successful pet relationship... because, as I'm sure many of you know, training issues are one of the top reasons pets (at leasts dogs and cats) are surrendered to shelters. As I'm sure you also know, training isn't just getting your pets to do what you want, it's a way to communicate with them so they can understand you... and many times the training roles end up getting reversed and our pets start training us! I’m grateful to have this episode of My Rescue Rocks co-hosted by adventurer, fellow rescue advocate, and fellow podcaster Britany Felix! We got so many great responses from all of you and it made for quite a hefty episode, so let’s get right to it, shall we? Here we go! What have you learned? Ever since I was first initiated into the rescue community it's been a non-stop learning experience. I'm so grateful for the many people who've taught me what's going on in the world AND for all the animals I've had the opportunity to meet and work with. I'm really excited to share what you've learned from your experience in the rescue world! I’m also thrilled to be sharing the mic with my season 3 co-host, Britany Felix, from the Living Unconventionally podcast. But before we get to our conversation I just wanted to rewind for a second, because I kind of threw Britany into the show without an explanation, and I totally meant to give you one. If you’ve been listening since the 1st episode you already know that I intended these Q&U episodes to be unedited and “conversational” which I’m saying in air quotes, because I only ever intended to talk to myself in these shows. Of course, I’m actually talking to all of you, but it’s not much of a conversation if you can’t respond to me immediately. It’s also not much a of a conversation if I prepare my answers, and, the truth is that, even though the Q&U episodes were a bit more casual, I was editing the shit out of them. I was reading your comments over and over again, and calculating my responses, and if I sounded awkward I’d just start over and delete the awkwardness… can you guys tell I have a love hate relationship with perfection? I want to be this perfectly real person, but there is no such thing. It’s an oxymoron. The only way for me to stop being so conscious of how imperfect I am is to actually get into a real conversation, plus I figured you guys could use some new stories and a fresh perspective, and what better way to do that then bring on an adventurer who is passionate about the cause? Speaking of which, don’t forget to check out livingunconventionally.com to follow Britany & Brian’s RV adventures; every Friday is the adventure update, and I look forward to hearing this episode most of all each week. So I hope you will enjoy our conversations and appreciate every ah, um, and like we stutter and stumble through… we’re keeping it real. When we talked, they were just about to embark on an open-ended journey around the Western half of the United States in their travel trailer with their two dogs.

Our guest for today’s show has a personal history that I can really relate to. Nearly everyone I’ve interviewed so far has seemed to have been born a rescuer, there was never anyone who shared their “before-I-got-into-rescue” stories, there never even seems to be a “before.” I don’t know, maybe I’m just not asking the right questions… You might know how I was introduced into the rescue world, but I’ve never told you that my life before that was overflowing with store-bought pets, and a few that were bought from breeders. Except for the cats, of course, because of all the strays in our neighborhood… does anyone actually buy cats? Anyway… I remember at least one dog and countless cats that were never even allowed to come inside throughout my childhood… was it my fault… no… but the memories still make me sad and for some reason, they still make me feel guilty. So that’s why I want to give a huge thank you our amazing storyteller, Britany Felix, for telling it like it is – I appreciate it more than you know. In this week's rescue story, Britany Felix talks about how her soulmutts came into her life and how her favorite rescue ended up needed a rescuer themselves! Britany Felix is new to the world of podcasting, but it's been a life-changing decision. She's faced the reality that nine to five work is not for her and it's time to change. So, she's selling up, getting an RV and, along with her husband and her dogs, hitting the road toward the life she really wants. Her podcast is about passionate living as she seeks to follow her own passion of living amongst the great outdoors and making a living on the road. As we discover, previous failure has made her fearless when it comes to facing such a big life change and leaving the security of an owned home and regular wage. Sometimes, we are surprised by celebrities. When we're used to seeing them show mostly their silly side in movies, it can be hard to fathom wisdom springing from their lips, but that's exactly what Jim Carrey has done. His wisdom came through a story about his father and what he learnt by the example. It's a challenge to all of us as we seek to live a life more passionately and purposely.
