The great Bud Kennedy visits to tell us what the hell is happening in Tarrant County and also where to eat
Fort Worth legend and living encyclopedia Bud Kennedy joins the show to talk about his own journey from eating “coaches food” as a sports writer to penning the longtime Eats Beat column for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He also dives into the evolution of the Fort Worth food scene, from its place as the headquarters of regional Texas cuisine to making room for new cuisines and ideas: “Fort Worth is a different kind of real food city. The food has to be good and the prices have to be realistic.” The Dallas Morning News food team then talks about the new Barsotti's restaurant and the end of Dallas' red sauce saga, how an Arlington taco shop may get the city to change its mural policy, and a new late-night vegan burger shop coming to Deep Ellum.

Bud Kennedy at the Fort Worth Star Telegram thinks secession is illegal. It's a wonder such a great constitutional scholar has not been hired by some Texas school to teach law or at the very least Texas history. You see, he also doesn't understand that "Remember the Alamo!" was a rallying cry for...secession. He puts down a Texas legislator who advocates Texas secession because he owns an Ace Hardware store. This coming from the "historian" who has spent nearly forty years writing stupid pieces like this one and getting paid for it. Who is more valuable to Texas? "The Jeff Ward Show” is for those who are unafraid to be intellectually challenged. With no political, social, or moral agenda, snarky Austin-based host, Jeff Ward, consistently challenges his audience to examine relevant news, issues and situations in alternative ways. Ward, who is known for his bold, irreverent commentary on stuff that matters, never leaves listeners without their curiosity piqued, their beliefs challenged, or their minds reeling. If you crave more of those “whoa” moments in your life, then you need “The Jeff Ward Show.” Subscribe, rate and write a review to Our Little Show! Jeff Ward is a highly decorated former NCAA football player with extensive ties to the University of Texas. He's been nominated as an Outstanding Young Texas Ex, and while a student at The University of Texas, he was a four-year Letterman in football, a football team captain, a member of the Athletics Director's Academic Honor Roll, a three-time all-conference football player, and a two-time All-American football player. He's among the top five all-time leading scorers at The University of Texas, and he's the NCAA record holder for game-winning field goals. He was selected in the 1988 NFL Draft to play football professionally. The podcast market is oversaturated with NCAA and NFL football content but with Jeff, you get the educated perspective of someone who's lived it. Jeff has been appearing on both national news andlocal (Texas-based) news platforms to discuss sports, politics and economics for over 20 years. Jeff's time at The University of Texas provided him with knowledge of worldwide economics, marketing strategies and the economics of sports, particularly with NCAA Football. With the NCAA always finding itself involved in hot-button issues, Jeff Ward explains what's going on behind the scenes. Jeff takes a libertarian position when it comes to politics. Jeff is aLibertarian to maximize autonomy and freedom of politics. Jeff is aware that people are not going to agree with all of his opinions when it comes to politics, but he challenges you to look at other perspectives. Being Libertarian displays a skepticism of authority and state power, but some Libertarians diverge on the scope of their opposition to existing systems of economics and systems of politics. Libertarian thinking highlights the dignity of each individual. The growing extension of dignity to people is one of the great libertarian achievements of the world. In 1761 a French schooner was shipwrecked in the Indian Ocean, leaving more than 200 people stranded on a tiny island. The crew departed in a makeshift boat, leaving 60 Malagasy slaves to fend for themselves and wait for rescue. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll tell the story of the Tromelin Island castaways, which one observer calls "arguably the most extraordinary story of survival ever documented." We'll also admire some hardworking cats and puzzle over a racer's death. Intro: In 1830 architect Thomas Willson proposed building an enormous pyramid to house London's dead. In 1959 a Norwegian insulation manufacturer undertook to transport a three-ton block of ice to the equator without refrigeration. Sources for our feature on the Tromelin Island castaways: Samir S.
