Cepee Tabibian is the Founder of She Hit Refresh, a global community for women aged 30-plus who want to break free from routine and start a life of travel—specifically moving abroad or quitting their job to travel long-term. Tune in as Cepee shares stories of how she has immersed herself in new cultures, used those opportunities to try on new identities even at the age of 37, and take notes about all of the resources that are available for women who want to fulfill their wishes of exploring an unconventional life filled with travel today. And if you are thinking of Europe as your top destination then Cepee has the book you’ll want to grab immediately.  Here’s some further background on Cepee. She is a citizen of the world, she is half Colombian and half Iranian, and proudly considers herself a native Texan. She loves jumping feet first into the unknown and encouraging others to make their own leap in life.  Through her Facebook group, podcast, annual retreats, online course called #MAKEITHAPPEN, and the new digital book I'm Outta Here! An American's Ultimate Visa Guide to Living in Europe, she inspires her community members to take imperfect action and make their dreams a reality.  Highlights:  What is home? Especially if you move around a lot. (5:53)  Cepee shares how she didn’t know what she wanted to be until she turned 37. (7:55)  How she discovered what she was good at, could do and how that led to the beginning of She Hit Refresh. (9:27)  Try on a new identity even if you feel like an imposter. (10:01)  She Hit Refresh filled the need for a lack of resources for women who want to take or took an unconventional path and were in their 30+years. (12:33)  Seeking validation from a Facebook community for wanderlusts with “crazy ideas” of living abroad. (13:24)  Reasons why women may not live abroad include fear of failure, finances, or embarrassment. (13:35)  It’s okay to take a pause to figure out what’s next and, Cepee discusses how to plan for that financially. (16:35)  Cepee shares why leaving a good life in pursuit of a great one is okay. (19:58)  If an idea keeps popping up you should listen to it, don’t ignore it for decades. (22:32)  Why Cepee is so action-oriented. (29:24)  Is trauma needed to feel a sense of urgency or are decades of life experience enough? (31:25)  Learn all about the book: I’m Outta Here: An American’s VISA guide for going to Europe – it includes the 16 easiest countries to which Americans can move to for more than 90-days. (34:16)  What if you don’t know the language spoken in your dream European country? (36:34)  How the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting women who lived abroad or have a travel bug. (38:29)  How to explore different cuisines and be transported to other countries through food. (39:42)  What gave Cepee the audacity to get unstuck; no need for a permission slip to try on different identities. (43:04)  The Middle Finger Project book and how living abroad enables you to try new identities or expand your identity. (44:26)  The top three things Cepee learned from living abroad 1) Give living abroad sometime before passing judgment. 2) Believe in yourself. 3) Share the journey with others i.e. finding your tribe locally. Cepee has been supporting women to reinvent themselves in various stages in their lives. We caught up with her to see how she and her community of Refreshers of She Hit Refresh were doing. This episode was recorded during the early stages of COVID-19. During this time, Cepee had to pivot and readjust her business to meet her community’s needs. We talked a lot about what it means to reinvent yourself and how to embrace learning new skills and the reinvention journey. She believes that moving abroad allows you to play with your identity. Now, her community has grown into 5k women who have committed to choosing themselves first. We’re so inspired by what Cepee has created and how she continues to support women in making their dreams of travel and living abroad come true. In this episode you’ll be inspired by the following:1. It’s okay to reinvent yourself.2. You don’t know what your potential is or what you can discover unless you give yourself the space to do so. 3. Be flexible.  Want to connect more with Cepee and the She Hit Refresh crew? Check them out on these following social media platforms:Check out Cepee’s new book: I’m Outta Here! When your life is location independent, finding your community is difficult. We have online groups, and many of them are supportive, but the connections can seem fleeting. One thing Cepee does is foster meaningful connections within her groups. We hear that online relationships aren't real and that's just not true. It's a question of how strong those connections are. You have to decide how much effort you're going to put in, but building a network of other digital nomads is one of the best things you can do for your travel life. "What if nobody shows up?" The thought that runs through the mind of everyone who ever hosts anything. Cepee found her original members by posting on Facebook. She continued telling people about it, putting herself out there, showing up with energy and enthusiasm and built the community up. When working with individual clients, Cepee likes to overshoot her pricing, so she has a buffer for negotiation. So often we start with what we want to get paid and when the potential client comes back with a counter offer, we don't really have room to budge and either have to walk away or take a rate lower than our work is worth. This is similar to what Ikiah talked about in her thoughts on negotiating a salary, aim high so you can land where you want. For full links and show notes, visit compasspod.com/045

Today's interview is with Cepee Tabibian. Born a citizen of the world to a Colombian mother and Iranian father in West Virginia, Cepee spent all but 9 months of her childhood growing up in the Lone Star State and proudly considers herself a Native Texan. Although her parents were from South America and the Middle East, her passion for travel didn’t start until high school when she befriended a group of foreign exchange students. Convincing her traditional Iranian father to let her travel solo to the Netherlands for her 17th birthday was no easy feat. Little did they know that his support of her trip to visit a friend would become the most pivotal moment in her life. Her first trip abroad prompted a deep and magical love affair with travel and self-exploration that continues till this day, 21 years later. Cepee shares her story of moving to Spain over a period of years via Texas and working as a digital nomad in online marketing. After several stints in Spain Cepee decided to come back to the country she loved and made a plan. One year of teaching English and no more; she would carve out a career for herself in a different field. Cepee takes us through her process of transitioning to work online in digital marketing and the creation of two online/offline communities- She Hit Refresh (for women over 30 changing their life through travel) and the Madrid Blogger Network (providing training and resources for bloggers and content creators). Both groups were borne out of needs and questions that Cepee had - and that have now grown hugely in terms of numbers and engagement to become helpful and inspiring resources for so many people. In fact She Hit Refresh has grown to almost 5000 people since its creation in November 2017! I hope you enjoy today's episode with the fabulous Cepee.
