A new survey conducted by the University of New Hampshire shows a lot of unhappy people living in our state. According to the findings, only one in six residents describe Connecticut as very or somewhat affordable. Four in ten residents say they are likely to move out of the state within five years, and even more want to move out, higher than any other surveyed New England state this month. We asked Senator Jeff Gordon about the findings. To read the survey: "More Than Four in Ten Connecticut Residents Want to Move Out of State," by UNH Survey Center

The challenging field of family law is a vital part of the litigation profession, demanding an understanding of both the law and the psychological trauma that can dramatically affect the well-being of children and others caught in the middle. Guest Ashish Joshi is a Michigan attorney and author who has devoted his career to helping those struggling through the most difficult situations imaginable. Family violence, coercion, and control are, unfortunately, a huge and often under recognized part of our legal reality. The field of family law can include issues including parental alienation, child abduction, the weaponization of children and their relationships with sparring parents, gaslighting and manipulation, and even complicated adjacent areas of law such as hidden assets, stalking, and pet abuse. Family law litigation requires a complex skill set and mental toughness, but it's a vital part of our lives. Joshi shares how practicing in the field involves working with people going through the worst period of their lives, the protection of innocent and powerless victims, and the field of psychology and human behavior. Looking for a challenge and the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life? Family law litigation is a demanding and rewarding field. Also in this episode, quick tips from Erin Clifford, managing director at Clifford Law Offices, about avoiding legal burnout. Have a question, comment, or suggestion for an upcoming episode? What if the reason you can't relax… is because your body learned that calm never lasted and does not mean you are safe?In this episode, I'm talking about something so many survivors experience after coercive control and domestic violence: feeling constantly on edge, even when nothing is actively happening. The messages stop. The house is quiet. Things seem calm. But your body still feels like it's bracing for impact. We explore why survivors often struggle to feel safe even after separation, how trauma and unpredictability train the nervous system to stay hypervigilant, and why this is not a character flaw or “loving drama.” It's survival.I also break down the difference between being safe and feeling safe, the role of the nervous system and amygdala in trauma responses, and why healing has to include more than just insight or positive thinking. Most importantly, we talk about “felt safety” — those moments where your body starts to believe you might actually be okay — and how building those moments can change the way you parent, communicate, respond to stress, and begin healing after abuse. In This Episode We Discuss:Why survivors feel anxious even during calm momentsHypervigilance and the nervous system after abuseThe impact of unpredictability in coercive controlWhy healing is not just cognitiveFelt safety and nervous system regulationHow trauma responses impact parentingPractical grounding and regulation strategiesThe difference between being safe and feeling safeIf you've ever thought, “Why can't I just relax?” this episode is for you.Nervous System episodes: Ep 150: Post-Separation Abuse Burnout: A Nervous System Perspective https://www.buzzsprout.com/1991648/episodes/17103086 Ep 11: Your Nervous System is Shot: Strategies to Move Out of Fight, Flight, and Freeze https://www.buzzsprout.com/1991648/episodes/11272280Join the Rising Beyond Community today. This week we're discussing the 5 Daily Practices to Move Out of Survival Mode Life as a single parent often feels like a relentless cycle of responsibilities with no margin to catch your breath. The demands pile up, and it can seem impossible to find peace, let alone joy. That's why today's conversation with Will Acuff, co-founder of Corner to Corner and author of No Elevator to Everest, is so important. Will shares from his own story of despair, healing, and renewal—reminding us that even in the hardest seasons, there are small steps we can take toward wholeness. Today, we cover three main points: How to face despair and grief without pretending everything is fine. The role of daily practices in helping us stay grounded and present. Practical ways to reframe sacrifice so it becomes life-giving instead of depleting. These pain points matter because surviving alone can leave us feeling powerless and stuck. But by naming what's hard, embracing rhythms of care, and reframing sacrifice, we rediscover hope. As Will reminds us, healing often starts with small, intentional steps—breathing, journaling, or simply noticing what sparks joy. When we allow ourselves to lament, practice radical responsibility for our own well-being, and cultivate rhythms that connect us with ourselves and with God, we begin to see that life is not just something to endure. It can be rebuilt, reshaped, and infused with joy again. In this episode, I share insights from a recent VIP retreat where I worked with a small group of clients to help them transform their lives and move fully from stage three to stages four and five of healing from betrayal. The key theme that emerged was the importance of willingness. Here are the five crucial traits of willingness that can significantly impact your healing journey: Willingness to Move Out of Your Comfort Zone: Growth begins outside your comfort zone. Change won't happen if you stay within familiar confines. Challenge yourself to embrace discomfort as a sign of progress. Willingness to Venture into the Unknown: Stepping into the unknown is necessary for true transformation. This means being open to new experiences and trusting the process, even when the outcome is uncertain. Willingness to Think Bigger: Expand your perspective and challenge your current limitations. Thinking bigger allows you to break free from restrictive beliefs and envision a more empowered future. Willingness to Give Up Your Story: Letting go of the painful narrative that defines your betrayal allows for the creation of a more empowering story. This shift is crucial for moving beyond being stuck in past hurt. Willingness to Embrace Hard Now, Easy Later: Short-term discomfort and hard work lead to long-term ease and fulfillment. Making drastic changes and addressing the root issues head-on is essential for lasting transformation. Key Takeaways: Comfort Zone: Life and change happen outside of your comfort zone. Embrace discomfort as a sign of growth. Unknown: Being willing to venture into the unknown can lead to significant personal growth and new opportunities. Bigger Thinking: Expand your mindset to achieve more than you initially believed possible. New Story: Reframe your betrayal story into one of empowerment and transformation. Hard Now, Easy Later: Embrace short-term challenges for long-term ease and success. Reflection Questions: Are you willing to move past your comfort zone? Are you open to venturing into the unknown? Can you challenge yourself to think bigger? Are you ready to let go of your current story? Will you embrace hard now for an easier later? Action Steps: Reflect on the areas where you may be stuck in your comfort zone. Identify any fears you have about venturing into the unknown and challenge them. Set a goal to expand your thinking beyond current limitations. Write a new narrative for your betrayal experience that empowers you. Commit to making the hard changes now for long-term benefits. Join the Journey: If you're interested in participating in a future VIP retreat or working within The PBT Institute, reach out and get on the list. I feel like I have gotten a good handle on it and it's still fresh so I understand the thought process and the thoughts that might be going through your head if you're wanting to move out or are going through that process... or maybe you are a recent post-grad or are nearing it. "If regular people are telling you that you're crazy, you're going the right way." -Sunil Tulsiani If you don't have at least one crazy big dream, you're not living. Without dreams, we would be nothing more than robots going through the motions of life. Dreams give us hope and purpose. They remind us that there is more to life than just the here and now. And yet, so many of us settle for small dreams. We convince ourselves that we're being realistic, but in reality, we're just scared— scared of what people will think, scared of failing, scared of not being good enough. But why settle for a life that's just okay when you can have a beautiful one? This week, Daniel sits with Sunil Tulsiani, the founder of the Private Investment Club, the largest elite real estate club in North America. Listen in as Daniel and Sunil discuss how we can overcome the fear of moving out from the unhappy zone we're in, the formula to make your dream crazy big, 3 steps to turn it into a reality (no matter how crazy big that is), how we can be prepared for the challenges and scrutinies ahead, and the best university in the planet. Is move out madness costing you money or making you cranky? The customer tells you "it's not that bad" and then it takes twice as long for the move out clean as you expected. Or maybe after all the cleaning, you realize you underbid the job? Or, how about home sales that are happening with a one-day turnaround and the last-minute cleaning requests are keeping you up till midnight because the new owners are moving in tomorrow? Don't worry, you're not alone, but you don't have to be naive either. Today's #movingday Ask a House Cleaner sponsor is Savvy Cleaner Training and certification for house cleaners and maids.
