Today you'll hear from Vicki Campos-Dimmer about her career in Change Management. Her transition into change management came at a critical juncture in her career. Coming off a recent downsizing of her department, as part of an organizational restructuring, Vicki did a deep dive into her desire and career aspirations to remain in the communication profession. She was very interested in expanding her skillset and had recently explored project management as a potential profession. In researching other potential career paths for someone with her background, she happened to discover change management. While exploring different career options that align with her background, she stumbled upon change management. The mix of communication, instructional design, training, and project management caught her eye. She saw it as a chance to use her 15+years of experience and at the same time, learn new things and grow in a direction she had never tried before. This unique combo gave Vicki the ability to use her skills and improve herself personally and professionally. One of the most significant factors in her successful transition to change management was working with a career coach. A career coach is much more than a resume writer, they can provide invaluable guidance to help identify your strengths and weaknesses, develop a career plan, and navigate the job search process. They also provided emotional support and accountability during many challenging times through the job search process and career transition. For anyone considering a career change, Vicki encourages you to consider working with a career coach. They can help you define your career goals, develop a strategy for achieving them, and overcome the obstacles that may arise along the way. With the right support, you can successfully transition to a new and rewarding career in change management. Vicki has been a change management consultant for the past 7 years and worked with many clients across various industries, helping them navigate organizational changes such as mergers, acquisitions, and technological transformations. She learned the importance of understanding stakeholders' needs, effectively communicating change initiatives, managing resistance to change, and building a culture of transparency, open communication, and adaptability. For newcomers interested in pursuing a career in change management, Vicki highly recommends seeking out helpful resources and exploring the certification program that best fits your needs. The Prosci Change Practitioner certification is one of the most well-recognized. However, there are others that can also help you demonstrate your commitment to the field. When seeking to implement change in your organization are you going off what your gut tells you or are you asking questions to as many people as possible in order to see the patterns that exist and discover ways to change them for the better? To discuss how thought leadership can be beneficial in change management I've invited The Chief Innovation Officer at Prosci, Tim Creasey to join me. In addition to his work helping individuals and organizations build their own capabilities in change management, Tim is the author of Change Management: The People Side of Change. For Tim and Prosci, creating thought leadership starts with pattern recognition and identification. By asking questions of hundreds of people and documenting their answers you are able to start to see the patterns that already exist and get input on how to create impactful change. Only then can you synthesize the information into content that is actionable and accessible. Creating content that can have a positive impact goes beyond research and a good idea. What you make has to be relevant to the audience and suited to their knowledge level. Tim discusses setting a contextual anchor for the conversation and using different modalities to reach the audience where they are comfortable and in a way they can understand. Three Key Takeaways: · Thought leadership comes from a lot of hard work, and asking smart questions. Then discerning the patterns that others can act on. · There is an art to asking the nuanced questions that are going to yield the insights you are looking for. · Creating good thought leadership comes from collecting data, analyzing it, and then turning those findings into actionable content that is easily accessible.

“We can't necessarily control change because organizations are living systems. But we can certainly more effectively manage the journey and impact and ramifications of the changes in our organization,” explains Tim Creasey, Chief Innovation Officer at Prosci, an international leader in change management. Today, he discusses new perspectives in the world of change management and what is needed for leaders to drive successful, authentic change within organizations. Change is both continuous and inevitable, so it is critical that leaders understand how to successfully guide their employees through the process. It is all well and good to make changes to the technical side of your organization, but without getting your people on board, successful change will be much more challenging to achieve. Prosci uses their ADKAR model to navigate constructive resistance to change at the individual level. This model refers to the awareness of the need for change, an individual's own desire for the change, the knowledge required for successful implementation, and the ability to actually implement the change. If one of those pieces is missing, that will cause resistance within the change process. When employees understand the purpose for the change and how it will benefit them on an individual level, they are more likely to embrace the journey. Clearly define for your employees what is that the change is meant to accomplish and how it will impact each of them on an individual level. By managing each step of the process and being up front with your team, it will be much easier to navigate change as it occurs. Quotes: “We can't necessarily control change, because organizations are living systems. But we can certainly more effectively manage the journey and impact and ramifications of the changes in our organization.” (6:37-6:50 | Tim) “If we don't define the change in terms of the impact it means to the people, we can never hope to help manage and support people through that change journey.” (16:28-16:36 | Tim) “If we want to set ourselves up for success, we need to define what it is we're setting out to achieve.” (20:59-21:03 | Tim) “Change is continuous, but change success is accessible with and through our people.” (31:43-31:49 | Tim) Links: Mentioned in this episode: Learn more about Mike Horne on Linkedin Email Mike at mike@mike-horne.com Learn More About Executive and Organization Development with Mike Horne Learn more about Tim Creasey: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/timcreasey/ Website: https://www.prosci.com/, Book: https://www.amazon.com/Change-Management-People-Side/dp/193088561X/ref=sr_1_1?qid=1676994372&refinements=p_27%3ATimothy+Creasey&s=books&sr=1-1&text=Timothy+Creasey Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm
