Have You Lost Jesus In Your Life? Duncan Crook | July 13, 2025 ---------- EPISODE SUMMARY Have you ever lost track of a child for even a moment? That panic is nothing compared to losing fellowship with Jesus in your life. In this powerful message, Duncan Crook uses the story of 12-year-old Jesus being left behind in Jerusalem to reveal how even the most devoted believers can lose intimate fellowship with Christ. Through Luke 2:41-52, discover the difference between losing your relationship with Jesus (impossible) and losing fellowship with Him (all too common). Learn the warning signs, understand how it happens gradually, and most importantly, find the path back to restored intimacy with your Savior. Core Message: You can't lose your relationship with Jesus, but you can lose fellowship with Him - and there's a way back. ---------- KEY TOPICS COVERED The Reality of Lost Fellowship - The difference between losing relationship vs. losing fellowship with Jesus - Why even the closest believers can lose their sense of Jesus' presence - The story of the coworker who "found Jesus" then seemed to lose Him again The Biblical Foundation: Jesus Lost in Jerusalem - Jewish travel customs that explain how Mary and Joseph lost Jesus - The significance of Jesus' Bar Mitzvah and coming of age at 12 - Why both parents assumed Jesus was with the other group The Security of Salvation vs. Fellowship - Once saved, always saved - but not a license to sin - Marriage analogy: relationship vs. fellowship maintenance - Why true believers don't want to persist in sin Who Can Lose Fellowship with Jesus - The shocking truth: those closest to Him are most vulnerable - Former pastors, deacons, and church leaders who've fallen away - How you can attend church regularly and still lose fellowship The Gradual Nature of Spiritual Drift - Why losing Jesus doesn't happen overnight - The danger of small steps away from Christ - The Inuit wolf-hunting illustration about gradual spiritual destruction The Samson Syndrome - How Samson lost God's presence without realizing it - The tragedy of assuming God is still with you while living in sin - Recognition that spiritual strength comes from God, not ourselves The Path Back to Fellowship - Step 1: Acknowledge that you have left Him - Step 2: Diligently begin to seek Him with persistence - Step 3: Return to the place you left Him David's Example of Restoration - How "a man after God's own heart" lost fellowship through compromise - The progression from spiritual laziness to adultery and murder - Psalm 51 as a model for genuine repentance and restoration ---------- MEMORABLE QUOTES "Have you ever been somewhere with a small child and turn your back for a second- and the child has gone?" "How easy it is to sometimes seem to lose Jesus in our lives." "I have a good Greek word for that: Hogwash." "If you are born again, you don't want to sin! You are a new creature in Christ." "Has there ever been a time in your life when you were consistently closer to Jesus than you are right now? If the answer is yes, then you have lost Jesus." "Sometimes we stay so busy in church doing religious things that we miss Jesus." "Jesus didn't leave Mary and Joseph; they left Him." "You can't afford one day out of fellowship with Jesus." "He awoke from his sleep and thought, 'I'll go out as before and shake myself free.' But he did not know that the Lord had left him." "You will never reclaim fellowship with Jesus until you are honest enough to acknowledge that you have lost it." "You will need to take as many steps back to fellowship as you took walking away." ---------- BIBLICAL FOUNDATION - Primary Text: Luke 2:41-52 (Jesus in the Temple at age 12) - Supporting Texts: Judges 16:20 (Samson), Psalm 51:10-11 (David's repentance) - Key Theme: The difference between relationship and fellowship with Christ - Context: Jewish Passover customs and coming-of-age traditions ---------- PRACTICAL APPLICATION If You're Questioning Your Fellowship: - Ask yourself: "Has there ever been a time when I was consistently closer to Jesus than I am right now?" - Examine your heart honestly, not just your church attendance - Don't assume religious activity equals intimate fellowship If You've Recognized Lost Fellowship: - Acknowledge it honestly without making excuses or blaming others - Begin seeking Jesus diligently and persistently - it may take time - Return to the specific place or situation where you left Him If You're in Church Leadership: - Remember that being close to Jesus doesn't make you immune to losing fellowship - Don't let busyness in ministry substitute for personal intimacy with Christ - Be watchful for the gradual drift that can happen to anyone If You're Struggling with Sin: - Recognize that small steps away from Jesus become giant leaps - Don't deceive yourself that Jesus is okay with compromise - Remember that sin has an exponential, infectious nature If You're Helping Others: - Look for those who may have lost fellowship while maintaining appearances - Encourage persistence in seeking restoration - it's not always immediate - Point people back to where they left Jesus, not just to religious activity ---------- THE ULTIMATE INVITATION God the Father is waiting for you to return to Him. When you do, He won't condemn, criticize, or punish you. He's going to welcome you with open arms, embrace you with His grace, enfold you with His love, and shower you with His mercy. You can be saved and going to heaven, but your fellowship and intimacy with Jesus can be spoiled. Will you admit it and start seeking the Lord persistently and diligently? Are you willing to return to where you left Him? ---------- Remember: Fellowship with Jesus requires the same diligence as any relationship - it must be maintained through consistent communion, honest acknowledgment of problems, and persistent effort to restore what's been lost.

The Apostle Peter wrote the letter we call 1 Peter while persecution against Christians was simmering in and around ancient Rome. He wanted his readers to be prepared for hard things to come, and he sought to prepare them by reminding them of their identity as the chosen people of God, living as exiles in a world of suffering. We continue our series in 1 Peter looking at 1 Peter 5:5-11.Three Action Steps We Should Pursue as we Wait for the Return of Christ:Be humble. Be on guard. Be encouraged. “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” Matthew 5:3-6 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 Life Group Discussion Questions: lifechurchnc.com/exilesLife Church exists to glorify God by making disciples who treasure Christ, grow together, and live on mission. This week, we will look into the one understanding that anchors not just the series but the way we should live our lives: that God was crucified for our sakes. As we prepare for this week's service, let us reflect on 1 Corinthians 2:2, which says, "For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified." If you are new to Community Church, WELCOME! We would love to get to know you. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God. God made Him who knew no sin to be sinb on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

As Romans 8 is the Mount Everest of the New Testament, Romans 12 stands as K2. Just as we think of the world's two tallest mountains together, though they are separated by distance, so Romans 8 and 12 go together although they are separated by three chapters. Romans 12 serves as the response to the revelation in Romans 8 of how the Holy Trinity reaches out to us, offering love, mercy and salvation. Cecil identifies and walks through six main thoughts in Romans 12: Worship is what you do every day. Don't shape yourself on the outside to fit into the world, but shape yourself on the inside to become brand new in Christ's ways We are joined together as the body of Christ Be who you were made to be Love, hope, pray, honor, give, do good, suffer patiently and serve the Lord Live in relationship with everyone so you can turn them to good

We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God.…   The Gospels of Mark and Luke both relay an incident involving a widow's gift to God. She didn't give much—just two mites—or did she?   The story is often called the story of the widow's mite or the story of the widow's offering. One day, Jesus was sitting with His disciples near the temple treasury watching people depositing money into the offering receptacles. The court of women held thirteen such receptacles, and people could cast their money in as they walked by. Jesus watched as the rich were contributing large sums of money, but then along came a widow with two small coins in her hand. The ESV calls them “two small copper coins, which make a penny” (Mark 12:41). The KJV calls the coins “mites.” These were the smallest denomination of coins. The widow put her coins into the box, and Jesus called His disciples to Him and pointed out her action: “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on” (Mark 12:43–44; cf. Luke 21:1–4).         Listen to Abiding in Christ Ministries with radio host Lesha Cantrell Monday through Friday at 6:45am (MT) on AM670, KLTT in Colorado; online at 670kltt.com; or via your mobile device on the free KLTT app. May God richly bless you as you abide in Christ

You may be filled with self-doubt. When you hear others talk about great women of God, you may say, ‘Oh, that’s not me.’ “But friend, it is you. You are more than you think you are. “A superpower exists inside you. If you are a believer, the Holy Spirit lives in you. We can’t keep walking around feeling powerless like life is happening to us, like we are victims. The Spirit of God lives inside us, empowering us for greatness. We just have to tap into it.” Need some encouragement to live this truth out? To rest in God’s strength? To face adversity and hard things empowered by the strength of the Lord? The Life of Joseph - Genesis 41:1-46 – Remembered and Rewarded! Couple of weeks ago, Joseph was accused of Raping Potiphar’s wife and Potiphar put him into Prison…  Even in Prison Joseph thrives, he’s successful because he just continues to Honor God no matter where he is or what he’s doing.  Last week, Bill’s message: Joseph was “Willing to Wait on God.”  He humbled himself, he’s obedient to God, he’s working hard (making every effort) and he’s serving where God placed him!  That’s why He was so successful.  Waiting on God is one of the hardest things for us to do.  One of the biggest problems in Ministry is people getting ahead of God… While we Wait…  Be Faithful to God where he has you. There’s a purpose for it!  Be Humble, Obedient, Work hard and Serve! Always be Ready where you are. If you aren’t ready how can God move in you, through you and then MOVE YOU? Be Bold! We are Ambassadors, Representatives of the “One True Living God… Speak the Truth in Love. Be Joyful! Don’t be confused and be focused on “Immediate” results… God’s in control!  Trust Him and what He’s doing!  Focus on Christ… Be humble, obedient, work hard and serve where God has you and do it with great JOY!   The Life of Joseph: Genesis 41: 1-46 – Remembered and Promoted! Joseph interprets the two dreams while in Prison… the King’s Baker and Cup Bearer.  The Baker killed, the Cup Bearer restored to His position. Genesis 40:23 – 23 Pharaoh’s chief cup-bearer, however, forgot all about Joseph, never giving him another thought. Genesis 41: 1-13 – Joseph Remembered! Two full years later, Pharaoh dreamed that he was standing on the bank of the Nile River. 2 In his dream he saw seven fat, healthy cows come up out of the river and begin grazing in the marsh grass. 3 Then he saw seven more cows come up behind them from the Nile, but these were scrawny and thin. These cows stood beside the fat cows on the riverbank. 4 Then the scrawny, thin cows ate the seven healthy, fat cows! At this point in the dream, Pharaoh woke up. 5 But he fell asleep again and had a second dream. This time he saw seven heads of grain, plump and beautiful, growing on a single stalk. 6 Then seven more heads of grain appeared, but these were shriveled and withered by the east wind. 7 And these thin heads swallowed up the seven plump, well-formed heads! Then Pharaoh woke up again and realized it was a dream. 8 The next morning Pharaoh was very disturbed by the dreams. So he called for all the magicians and wise men of Egypt. When Pharaoh told them his dreams, not one of them could tell him what they meant. 9 Finally, the king’s chief cup-bearer spoke up. “Today I have been reminded of my failure,” he told Pharaoh. 10 “Some time ago, you were angry with the chief baker and me, and you imprisoned us in the palace of the captain of the guard. 11 One night the chief baker and I each had a dream, and each dream had its own meaning. 12 There was a young Hebrew man with us in the prison who was a slave of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams, and he told us what each of our dreams meant. 13 And everything happened just as he had predicted. I was restored to my position as cup-bearer, and the chief baker was executed and impaled on a pole.” Joseph had ask the Cupbearer to remember him… but he forgot him!  People forget - God doesn’t forget!   Romans 8:38-39 - 38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Man, God is really giving it to Joseph!  God isn’t punishing him, He’s preparing Him for Greatness!   Bill shared this quote last week by A.W. Tozer,

Society has its own definition of freedom but God's perspective is much different. What kind of message are we as wives, moms, and difference makers sharing with those around us? Do we know what our freedoms are in Christ? Here are some key scriptures we referenced to help us understand our freedom: John 8:34, 36 -we used to be slaves to sin but we are now free because of Christ. Matthew 4:1-11 - Jesus models how we are to use our freedom to resist Satan and call him out on his lies. Genesis 3 - God models how because of Him, we have the freedom to practice grace. Joshua 2 - God gives grace to Rahab. Daniel 6 - God gives grace to Daniel. Romans 8:1 - We are free from condemnation. Questions to ponder/journal: How will we live in freedom daily? How will we teach our children to do the same? How will we build a marriage and/or business that reflects our freedom in Christ? Are you satisfied with Christ? Be careful. It’s a trick question. On the one hand, we should be satisfied with Christ. He is all we need. He is more than enough. And Paul stressed the need for godly contentment. But he also warned of the danger of growing complacent or content with our current spiritual status. For Paul, there was such a thing as divine discontentment. And he refers to it in Philippians 3:12-21. It’s an attitude that is marked by a constant striving to know Christ better and to grow in our likeness to Him. When we come to know Christ, we receive the righteousness of Christ. But we don’t automatically receive the nature of Christ. We still retain our old sin nature and the propensity to live our old life styles. That is why Paul insists that we “put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you.” As long as we live on this planet, we will be faced with the constant need to grow more like Christ, and that will require a divine form of discontentment.

2011-08-21-1800 Pastor Loran Livingston is the speaker this evening August 21st, 2011 in the 6:00 service. Scripture:I Chronicles 16:8-10; Hebrews 10:19-23; 13:5-6; Matthew 18:18-20 Topic: Prayer Notes: - Prayer is the most powerful thing we can do on this earth, a connection to the supernatural that always makes something happen- “If you ask anything in my name I will do it”... the integrity of God is at stake- When we pray we have little expectation for a result; we pray out of Christian obligation... our faith decreases and there is no joy when we pray- We ought to rejoice because we get to seek the Lord God answers prayer- We don’t talk enough about what God has done in our lives- Sometimes we get so fascinated with the  written word that we miss the relationship with the Living Word; the written word points us to the Living Word; the Living Word makes the written word come alive- You don’t deserve what God has given you but He gave it to you by grace and expects you to walk in with boldness in the authority of the shed blood of Christ- Be content with what you have- What you bind/loose on earth is bound/loosed in heaven- When two agree it will be done; when two or three gather I am in their midst
