Former Ohio State Buckeye, Whitehaven Tiger, now Memphis Tiger defensive end CorMontae Hamilton joined GoTigers247 on Off the Boards. CorMontae transferred to Memphis during the offseason from Ohio State after spending three years with the Buckeyes. CorMontae is a native Memphian who excelled playing football for the Whitehaven Tigers. CorMontae details the story of his recruitment to Ohio State where he took a 12 hour bus ride to Columbus to participate in a Friday night camp as a senior. We discuss the theme in his life of him having a level of confidence in his abilities that motivated him to put himself out there as a recruit in order to be seen, and how this confidence helped him as he transitioned from playing tight end to joining the defense as a defensive end. CorMontae shares how tough the transition to defensive end has been, but shared that his dedication to showing himself as a recruit motivated him to continue to grind and learn the position. He explains how when he entered the transfer portal he had made the decision to move back to playing tight end, but during conversations with Ryan Silverfield and Matt Barnes he was motivated to continue playing defensive end. He shared how Coach Barnes told him that he had noticed how good CorMontae could be at that position and that he should come to Memphis and continue to learn. CorMontae expressed that the opportunity to come back to Memphis and play for his hometown school became too much to turn away from. His motivation this year has been the phrase that Ryan Silverfield has adopted for the Tiger program, and that he is "All In" on Memphis and playing defense. In the second segment, CorMontae talks about the defense at Memphis under Matt Barnes. He explains that Matt Barnes is a high level, energetic coach who consistently brings out the best in his players. He also shares how his relationship with defensive line coach, Kyle Pope, has developed and that the reputation he has developed as a motivator and high-level position coach is well earned. He believes that the defensive line will be key to the Tigers' defensive success this year, and their ultimate goal is to be the best defense in the conference. CorMontae ends the episode looking forward to being able to play in front of his family and friends, donning the blue and gray, and being a positive example for other young kids in Memphis who look up to him. Join Trey and TJ as they discuss the latest in University of Memphis football and basketball happenings from a fan's perspective. In the first segment, Trey and TJ celebrate the beginning of fall camp 2022. Their takeaways initially are on the defense and how impressed they are with seeing Matt Barnes out there coaching up the guys. They both love his energy he shows on the field and how the players are adopting that into their own practice time. The "fast and violent" mantra that Coach Barnes is bringing to the defense is a welcome change from the "bend and don't break" type defense that the former defensive coordinator instilled. Trey shares his excitement for the second year of QB1 Seth Henigan, and the maturity he has shown coming into his sophomore year at the helm of the Tigers' offense. Trey is upset that Seth has received very little national recognition and both him and TJ believe that, while Seth had a fantastic first year as a true freshman, that the sky is the limit for Seth moving forward. They finish the segment talking about Tiger great, Brady White, coming back to Memphis as a graduate assistant on offense. In the second segment, Trey and TJ transition to talk about the basketball program. They discuss the possibility of Alex Lomax coming back to play at Memphis for his fifth and final year. Trey believes that this year could be the best year for Alex as he will play a backup role to Kendric Davis, and how he can flourish in a role like this. Alex is a lightning rod for criticism with the Tiger fanbase, with some of it being deserved but most being undeserved. They believe Alex can be a calming influence for the Tigers as the team leader. They move on to discuss the newest Tiger addition in the Spaniard, Ian Granja. They level set the conversation around Ian and what Tiger fans should expect from Ian. To end the show, the guys discuss the unveiling of the Tiger basketball out of conference home schedule. He describes playing hockey as a young kid, but do to the expense of playing hockey he transitioned to play football as a 10 year old. Geoffrey immediately fell in love with the game and a he began to dream of playing in the NFL one day. While playing for Cégep Garneau, he decided to come to the States and attend a football camp at Syracuse University. After the camp he was immediately offered by Syracuse and joined the Orangemen. With French being his original language, Geoffrey explains that he had to learn words that American coaches would use with him as they coached him, but he spent quite a bit of time and energy to learn how to speak English fluently. Playing ball in America has been a huge accomplishment for him, but learning to speak English fluently in three years is something he is as proud of as anything else. In the second segment, Geoffrey shares how Memphis got involved with him after he entered the transfer portal in 2021. He explains how he was offered by Power 5 school, but made the decision to join Memphis because of the culture that Ryan Silverfield and the staff has built. His introduction to the team was with linebacker coach, Jordon Hankins, on a visit early on, and he immediately bonded with Hankins. The deal was done by the time Geoffrey and his mother made an official visit to Memphis, and he experienced the "familial" bond that the players have with each other. Geoffrey explains that his mom is the most important person in the world with him and her approval for the next school he attended was extremely important. His mother loved the staff, immediately trusted them, and also is a massive Elvis fan. Geoffrey ends the episode talking about the veteran leadership on the Memphis defense and how the camaraderie on the defense made the transition to Memphis easy for him. He specifically talked about Tyler Murray and Zay Cullens as the guys he is closest to on the team and the advances he has made in his game due to their leadership. He also expresses a lot of admiration for Coach Barnes and his ability to teach and share his vision for the defense in a way that makes sense for all the players. "I think the most significant thing I've done is coach and teach during the heart of the opioid crisis. I've dealt with it as a parent, teacher & coach and still continue to do so. " ~ Brent BarnesCoach Brent Barnes has been a parent/teacher/coach for 36 years, and was hugely influential in my development as a young man. Him and his staff introduced me to the sport of wrestling, and with it I began to learn just how shallow my mental toughness was. Luckily for me Coach Barnes continually instilled in me the idea of mindset and mental toughness which I am using today more than ever!Coach Barnes is highly recognized in the sport of wrestling: - NFHS National Coach of the Year- Washington State Coach of the Year- 6x USA Wrestling World Team Coach- Coached 12 State Championship Teams (I was on 3)- Coached multiple individual National ChampionsBut what I recognized him for is far greater than any of the previously aforementioned acknowledgements. Hear all that Coach Brent Barnes did for me as a young man w/o many male role models growing up, and how his message is STILL influencing me today, almost 20 years later.

Hello Hello Tennessee fans! This is the Podquest, and we are here to bring you arguably the MOST EXCITING edition of the PodQuest to date. Your crew has been thinking outside of the box to bring you excitement and entertainment, and we will be going through our Mailbag of voice messages from our listeners and fellow Vol fans. @Volfaninla1 and @cldemarcus were our first two to be selected for the mailbag! The funny part is that we caught the PodQuest casters off guard with the questions-- great stuff guys. The PodQuest will also finally wrap up the 2019 class and talk 2020 needs. Can the Vols land some playmakers? Also, will this football staff be the best in America? There have been some rumors going around that Jay Graham might be brought in... The PodQuest discusses this and whom he might replace. Is it Stinky Weinke? Finally, you will not want to miss the BasketVol discussion. A lot of fans have been asked to just "enjoy the season".. we all think that is true! This team is 22-1, but where can they improve? Where does Coach Barnes think this team needs to step up? Can the Vols win a huge game on the road at Kentucky, or will it be too big of an atmosphere? We discuss all of this and more (including many shout outs to our beloved Holly Warlick) in the PodQuest! Casters: @Priestvol @bleedorange23 @powellvolz @ptcvol @gatechvol Agenda: 1. Introductions 2. 2019 Recruiting Wrap Up: Great class meeting many needs 3.
