Choosing a Youth Football Offense - Part 3 - Popular Youth Offenses UBSW / DW / Wing-T / Beast Offense In Part 3 of the Choosing a Youth Football Offense series we are reviewing popular youth football offenses; DW, WT and Beast SW based on 15 of the 25 important variables that I outlined in Part 1 and Part 2. At the last of part 2 we looked at the Unbalanced Single Wing Offense (UBSW) as an intro to Part 3. In Part 3 of this series, Choosing a Youth Football Offense, we will look at the Double Wing Offense, the Wing-T Offense and the Beast Yale Single Wing Offense. In Part 4 we will look at the I- Formation, Power I, Wishbone and T- Formation. Part 5 will finish out the review of the Spread Offense, Gun-T, Pistol Offense and Split Backs formation. In Part 6 I will review Age issues in more detail. The Single Wing is traditionally an unbalanced line, direct snap, power runs, deception, multiple ball carriers, unique formation from football's past. The DW Offense is a double tight end double wing formation with minimal passing, power dives, misdirection, ball control, with an overwhelming ground game. The Wing-T is a Run-heavy football offense with misdirection plays, multiple ball carriers, power runs, and deceptive passing. The Beast Yale Single Wing is a modified Single Wing; unbalanced line, 3 shifting blocking backs; power runs, misdirection, and versatile plays. Choosing a Youth Football Offense is a tough decision for a new youth football coach and an experienced one too. Recently, I went down the Rabbit Hole to try find the magic solution or hidden door to answer this difficult question. In my research, many coaches will tell me what they think is the simplest or best youth offense and it is mainly the offense they already know. In a past blog post I did write about what I think are the Best Offenses for youth football. So even I will have a bias but hoping to but that behind me for this multi part article on Choosing a Youth Football Offense. In this multi part article on Choosing a Youth Football Offense I am trying to move past my internal bias and look at choosing a youth football offenses based on about 25 variables that keep coming up when I talk to youth football coaches. I define youth football from 5u to 12u, not really 7th and 8th grade ball. I would also like to thank many of the coaches in my Facebook groups and the Wing-T, Single Wing and Double Wing Facebook Groups for some great feedback and also thank Coach Kessler and Green for their thoughtful input. Key Variables on Choosing a Youth Football Offense Here are essential factors I'll consider while evaluating and choosing a youth football offense for potential use: Age of Players Experience of Players Maturity & Memory of Players Size of Players Size of Roster / # of Players Minimum Play Rules Amount of Practice Time / Week Coach's Experience / Knowledge of Offense Assistant Coaches Experience Levels Rec vs Select League Competition Skill Level Type of Defenses in League Type of Snap / Gun or UC Size of Offensive Linemen Blocking Skills / Calls Pulling Linemen Multiple Formations / Shifts / Motion QB Skills – Footwork / Hands / Passing Passing Capabilities Speed of Team / RBs Number of Top Running Backs Power / Speed / Misdirection / Pass Type Offense Versatility and Flexibility of the Offense Offensive System Easy to Learn, Install, Execute Available Offense Materials / Resources / Playbooks Check out all Coach Parker's digital youth football playbooks https://coachparker.org/youth-football-playbooks-store/ Schedule a Virtual Clinic with Coach Parker Visit my Website at http://CoachParker.org Join me on: http://www.facebook.com/youthfootball/ http://twitter.com/coachparker_org Play for Fun and Winning is Funner! Riley is from Ankeny, Iowa. Played high school football at Ankeny Centennial, and was one of those guys who Iowa finds and takes a chance on that other Division 1 programs seem to miss. He excelled at both football and track in high school, and his speed was something the Hawks thought they could work with, and they were right. He talks about his unexpected early playing time, and what his actual goals were in year 1 as a Hawkeye, and how playing as a young guy was met with mixed feelings from his peers. We discuss Coach Parker and the dough boyz and why they are so special, Riley's most memorable ass chewing during a game, and what it was like playing on arguably the best Defense in the country. We talk life current day and what the NFL combine was like, how his Pro Day went, and how he blocks out the noise and doubt of being a white Corner in the NFL. He talks about his favorite moments in kinnick, 2 house Calls in a single game vs Indiana, living in the walkons old Benton house, and a lot more!If you love the show and want to show support, tell your friends!
