On the latest episode of Past Our Prime, we dive into one of the most memorable moments in baseball history — the May 31, 1976 cover of Sports Illustrated that captured a dramatic home plate confrontation between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. The cover photograph, shot by Neil Leifer, showed Red Sox catcher Carlton Fisk (#27) making a tag out on Yankees outfielder Lou Piniella (#14), with home plate umpire Terry Cooney visible in the frame. Piniella was ruled out at home, but the collision sparked a bench-clearing brawl, and the cover's headline captured the rivalry perfectly: "Head-On Collision in the East — Speeding Yanks Run Into the Sputtering Red Sox." The brawl turned ugly when Yankees third baseman Graig Nettles and Boston pitcher Bill Lee fought so fiercely that Lee suffered a separation of his left shoulder, significantly affecting the rest of his pitching career. It remains one of the most iconic covers in the magazine's history, perfectly encapsulating the fierce and often physical rivalry between the two American League East rivals. Steve "Psycho" Lyons carved out a nine-year MLB career with the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox — where he was a teammate of Carlton Fisk — the Atlanta Braves, and Montreal Expos. He earned his nickname through antics like playing tic-tac-toe in the infield dirt and famously pulling his pants down after sliding into first base — a blooper reel staple for years. After retiring, Lyons became a three-time Emmy Award-winning broadcaster for Fox Sports, where he worked alongside Lou Piniella, before later joining NESN as a Red Sox studio analyst — proving, as he once said, that he talked about the game better than he played it. Lyons gives us incredible insight into Fisk, the Hall of Fame catcher, and reveals that for some reason, the serious Fisk would let the younger Lyons give him the business. He recounts how Fisk told Deion Sanders to run out a popup — leading to yet another bench-clearing incident — and how Fisk, as captain of the White Sox, was the hardest worker in the clubhouse. Lyons also takes us inside that iconic cover shot of Fisk and Piniella colliding at the plate and the brawl that followed, and reflects on how the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry back then was a whole different animal compared to today. And he tells us how he wishes he'd had the opportunity to play for Piniella, who brought that same fire to the game that Lyons himself always did — and yes, he sets the record straight on how he really got the nickname "Psycho," and no, it had nothing to do with dropping his pants in the middle of a game. If you enjoyed this episode, please download, review, and subscribe to Past Our Prime — and help spread the word to every baseball fan who loves the game the way it used to be played. Which college football coaches are REALLY on the hot seat heading into the 2026 season? Brad Powers and Joey Knish break down the coaches they believe may not survive the year at their current schools, including Bill Belichick at North Carolina, Deion Sanders at Colorado, Dabo Swinney at Clemson, Shane Beamer at South Carolina, Mike Locksley at Maryland and more. The crew debates whether Bill Belichick will still be coaching at North Carolina in 2027, if Deion Sanders missed his chance to leave Colorado, and whether Dabo Swinney can still compete in the modern era of college football. They also discuss which programs are falling behind financially, the toughest jobs in college football, and which coaches are under the most pressure heading into the season. Will Bill Belichick succeed at North Carolina? Can Deion Sanders keep Colorado relevant without Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders? Is Clemson heading toward a major fall under Dabo Swinney? Let us know in the comments which college football coach you think is under the most pressure this season.

First, a group of researchers is promising a new evidence-backed head impact assessment protocol for women's players. Ross doesn't know exactly what that means, and we discuss what is already known about women's susceptibility to concussion. Then, a new study out of Ireland provides the first published evidence that lowering the legal tackle height in rugby has reduced concussion and overall injury rates at community level. Ross, who has been directly involved in the process, explains what we now know, what still needs work, and why a 20% drop, scaled across tens of thousands of players, is a genuinely meaningful public health winCan an athlete still compete professionally in multiple sports at the highest level? Ken Carman and Anthony Lima dissect the Cavaliers' historic collapse against the Knicks and debate if Kenny Atkinson's coaching decisions are hurting the team's momentum. They explore the dynamic at Browns OTAs with Mary Kay Cabot and analyze the Guardians' success with a focus on Tanner Bibee's pitching performance. Tim Legler also joins the conversation to provide a national perspective on the Eastern Conference Finals and Donovan Mitchell's late-game energy. 02:33 - Hard Luck For Tanner Bibee 07:18 - Memories Of Steroid Era Baseball 13:42 - Analyzing The Cavs' Game 1 Meltdown 23:44 - NBA Superstars And Playoff Drama 31:50 - Quincy Williams' Defensive Mindset 37:10 - Monken And Garrett's Lack Of Meeting 50:53 - Small Business Sandwich Price Debate 58:12 - Is Game 2 Do Or Die? 01:08:30 - Guardians' Rise To American League Elite 01:16:11 - Harden, Garland, And Atkinson's Shade 01:28:50 - Mary Kay Cabot On Browns QB Competition 01:36:02 - Joel Bitonio's Future With The Browns 01:47:40 - Deion Sanders' Influence On The Browns 01:56:07 - Tim Legler Breaks Down The Cavs 02:06:37 - Donovan Mitchell's Fourth Quarter Struggles 02:17:26 - Debating The "Gassed" Narrative 02:26:36 - Patrick Beverley Defends The Cavs
Browns beat reporter Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com joins Ken and Lima to sort through the OTA noise, confirming Watson took more first-team snaps early but Shedeur got the critical 11-on-11 period that matters most, which means the competition is real even if the optics favor the veteran. The Myles Garrett absence debate gets a definitive answer from Mary Kay — there's simply a different set of rules for generational players, and Todd Monken himself has said it's not a big deal. Judkins looking explosive in 11-on-11 is the best Browns news of the week, Petonio's future remains a genuine mystery, and Mary Kay draws the line on the Game 1 collapse being a Drive or Fumble-level moment — only if they lose the series does it belong in that conversation.
They analyze the dynamic between Deion Sanders and NFL coaches, specifically regarding his son Shedeur Sanders' professional future. They argue that as a Power 4 head coach, Deion's desire to communicate with figures like Todd Monken is standard practice rather than nepotism. 01:00 - Browns Quarterback Race 02:04 - Deion Sanders Outreach Debate 04:33 - Manning Family Standards 06:21 - Professional Coaching Dynamics 09:46 - Cavaliers Playoff Expectations
Kenny Atkinson defends James Harden's role with the Cleveland Cavaliers while suggesting they would not have advanced past the first round without him. Mary Kay Cabot joins to provide updates on the Browns' quarterback competition between Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders. Victor Wembanyama's rise takes center stage as Evan Roberts and Tiki Barber debate whether the Spurs star is already becoming the kind of player the rest of the NBA has no answer for. His size, skill, defense, and offensive dominance spark a bigger conversation about rare athletes who completely change the way opponents have to play. Evan and Tiki also get into Wembanyama's MVP motivation, why his health may be the only real question, and how he compares to once in a generation forces from other sports. The discussion expands into Randy Moss, Deion Sanders, Aaron Rodgers, and Shohei Ohtani as they search for the best comparison to an athlete who feels almost impossible to stop.
On this episode of 2 Pros & A Cup Of Joe, Jonas Knox, Brady Quinn, & LaVar Arrington go over why Deion Sanders is disappointed in the Browns and Jaguars. Jason returns to days of yesteryear as the lone ranger. Jason has had enough of the fake agenda that has taken over the sports world. Deion Sanders claiming his son Shedeur Sanders endured hell last season; Stephen A. Smith having the audacity to speak about another manipulating the narrative when he has manufactured his backstory; Azzi Fudd drafted first over Olivia Miles … come on, man, we know why. Just say it! We learn that Giannis is a diva after all and Doc Rivers was, in fact, part of the problem. How does this all tie into ChudTheBuilder? Jason, exhausted with an abundance of fraudulence, bluntly proclaims enough of the fake and gay lies smothering the sports world, while going Han Solo — slicing and dicing the evil empire.
