We finally found some time to record and are back with talk on the first few episodes of the 2014 continuation of Mushishi! We hoped the 9 year break would allow the show to return to the heights of its earlier episodes, but so far we're a bit...underwhelmed. We also talk for a bit about Konosuba, Demon City Shinjuku, Magic Knight Rayearth, and the first three episodes of Gundam 00 (no spoilers)!CWs: Discussions of ableismTwittersLiv - @GhostGirlMusicSeneschal - @SomberazaleasSend any questions to tbhanimepodcast@outlook.com!

Kevin and Walter overcome obstacles to return and discuss the 1988 animated film Demon City Shinjuku. Kevin fears that Walter's historic distaste for anime will drag the whole thing down, but they share some common ground while discussing incredible lighting, character design, and animation. Will some tired tropes ruin their experience? Plus, some wild digressions about action movies and the evolving physiques of pro wrestlers lead the boys to dredge up an old argument. Then, Walter watched a bunch of movies with some spoiler light talk of John Wick: Chapter 4. Kevin can't remember why he chose some particular media and delves into some stories about claustrophobia. Walter still feels bad about picking Willy's Wonderland.

On this installment of Anime Death Ray, Chris and Max take a trip to a lil' ol' place called DEMON CITY SHINJUKU brought to us by legendary studio Madhouse. Topics include:Why does this whole movie feel like a QAnon fever dream?Nothing like an overzealously foul mouthed dub recorded in the back office!Aw shit! This may be our worst protagonist yet!All this and we pine for artistic subtleties of "Wicked City". We are the easiest, breeziest quasi-weekly light-hearted anime recap podcast recorded in backyard! In our penultimate installment of #scaretoons, we received a specially curated episode at the request of special guest and continuity guru Steve Beckley for the 1988 Japanese OVA special DEMON CITY SHINJUKU. It's a swift epic in miniature about a madman who has made a deal with the demon realm to unleash monsters upon the earth, and the only one standing in his way is a novice young man with a family legacy of waging war against evil. While the film has its merits (a striking visual style and genuinely compelling monsters) and its demerits (some unfortunate audio dubbing and tropes which haven't aged well), we have a surprisingly rich conversation about waging war against our own desires and the legacies, both good and evil, upon which we build our own choices. It's a fun conversation as always, including a special Patron segment covering CASTLEVANIA Season 2, episodes 3 & 4. On this episode, Cat and Joe welcome back guest host Vance Tucker to talk about another wild classic anime movie by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, based on the works of fantasy horror author Hideyuki Kikuchi. Demon City Shinjuku, released in Japan in 1988 and later in the US in 1994, is set in a distant future where there's one president of the world, amazing technology, very vague magic force-like powers, a lot exposition and demons about to pour out of the center of Tokyo to take it all over. Cat, Vance and Joe have a lot of questions about this truly ridiculous, but very fun film.

Recorded a day late again no thanks to my allergies kicking my ass. This week, I start off by ranting about tile installers trying to get more money out of me, two bad animes called Demon City Shinjuku and Garaga, then Llamageddon, a hilariously bad movie. We also talk about the rebranding/reintroduction of Lucasfilm Games, Battlefront 2, along with Siuxshi talking about a 12 year old throwing a rave in his school bathroom, some guy who injected magic mushroom tea in his veins, and using alternate terms during her conspiracy stories to try and avoid youtube flagging due to ridiculous algorithms. Motel Hell is back after a holiday hiatus with the latest and greatest weird news! This week’s format is a little different as Ben the Beardo and Dick Fetti take turns delivering the weirdest and dumbest news stories they could find from the past 3 months. The boys cover the upcoming war with robots, blood sculptures, Sacha Baron Cohen’s hard-hitting investigative journalism and collecting debts from pre-teens. But first the boys review Yoshiaki Kawajiri’s 1988 OVA adaptation of “Demon City Shinjuku”, originally written by Hideyuki Kikuchi.
This episode concludes season two, and covers both the 1982 Hideyuki Kikuchi novel, Demon City Shinjuku, and its OVA adaptation from 1988, directed by Kawajiri Yoshiaki. Contact: @Sentionaut_plus @Rockspacedandy
We take our third tour of Yoshiaki Kawajiri here on 3Blackgeeks, this time with a classic among otaku. For what reasons its a classic is...because it was shown on Showtime and Sci Fi in 90's that's why. We talk about "The Glow", monsters, Kawajiri repeating designs, plot armor, a racist af voice over and a one hit kill!

This is the seventh episode of Dead Cells, a segment for splatterpictures.net. I am covering Wicked City. Wicked City is a 1987 standalone OVA directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri who also brought us Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust - two titles that are certainly on the Dead Cells list, alongside Demon City Shinjuku, another one of those that we watched stoned on sugar and Jolt Cola on VHS back in the day. Before I was aware, I was watching his work on Gatachaman, or Battle of the Planets, which it was known in syndication. I urge you to perv his extensive credits online with no doubt you have watched something he’s had a hand in. Hear more at http://splatterpictures.net or see more at http://typicallydia.com
