Another week, another "Dave unhinged" as Diamond David Lee Roth one continues to burn all bridges left (we need more analogies!), this time with Dave's recent (mercifully short) stories on the Roth Show, about a Van Halen accountant getting thrown out a Jones Beach VH show and then, supposedly why the last Van Halen studio album, A Different Kind of Truth, isn't on the streaming services. Darren takes those stories apart, Steve waxes confusingly on what he hell is the point to all the "truth" and has always thought Dave ignored Wolfie on stage. All that, and more...

Van Halen is undoubtedly one of the most influential rock n' roll bands America has ever seen. In Van Halen: Every Album, Every Song (part of Sonicbond Publishing's "On Track" series), author Morgan Brown takes readers through the band's classic albums, charting their ascent from Sunset Strip amateurs to chart-topping arena rockers and beyond. Exploring the components of their music and its inspirations, as well as introducing us to the musicians behind the songs - including the late Edward Van Halen, the one-of-a-kind frontman David Lee Roth, and Sammy Hagar, who revitalized the band when he took the reins - this book is perfect for new fans and long-time fans. Hear what Morgan and I have to say about all the studio albums from the 1978 debut to 2012's A Different Kind Of Truth. Plus, find out why Morgan says the naysayers who criticize David Lee Roth's vocals are all wrong. On this edition of "The DLR Cast," Darren and Steve catch up about, then they cut to Darren's recent interview with Red Reign drummer Sam "Sammy Lee" Bendhiem. Sammy Lee probably knows more about Van Halen and DLR than Darren does -- Darren's assessment -- and their conversation touches upon various facets of the DLR catalog (e.g. "Skyscraper," "Eat 'Em And Smile," "DLR Band," "A Different Kind Of Truth") and Sammy nearly meeting Dave a few times. Sammy also talks about Red Reign's gigging alongside the likes of Tesla, Quiet Riot, Dokken and other DLR-adjacent artists we all dig. Red Reign's latest single is "Not That Way," and we at "The DLR Cast" are big fans of it. Go learn more about Red Reign via www.redreignband.com and www.facebook.com/RedReignBand. Thanks for listening!
This episode's interview is with Tyler Bryant of Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown. Tyler talks about the huge influence Eddie Van Halen and the first Van Halen album were on him, his first guitar, David Lee Roth still writing cool lyrics (re: the last Van Halen album A Different Kind Of Truth) and a special appearance of his Diamond Dave soundboard. Also, Steven and Darren spoke about the ridiculous Van Halen reformation/tribute rumors that Wolfgang Van Halen had to shoot down on social media. And, of course, go down a couple different paths from there. Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown is an American rock band. Founded in Nashville, Tennessee by guitarist Tyler Bryant, the group has since released four successful studio albums, and has toured with such groups as Jeff Beck, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Guns N' Roses and Lynyrd Skynyrd, as well as making appearances at several rock-themed music festivals. The group's current lineup consists of Tyler Bryant (lead guitar & vocals), Graham Whitford (rhythm guitar), Ryan Fitzgerald (bass), and Caleb Crosby (drums). Their latest album Pressure, just came out last month and is killer!
Episode 13 - Van Halen This week Five For Two Productions and Danbowski On Music remember the late great Eddie Van Halen. Every album is discussed from Van Halen I to A Different Kind Of Truth. This love letter to the band was recorded by Dan earlier this year, and we have moved it up in the playing order so that we could pay tribute to the greatest guitarist who ever lived. RIP Eddie. We will always remember you! View This Episode On YouTube!
Darren talks with music journalist and author G. Brown about what its like interviewing musicians, including David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen. Plus, how the music business has changed for music journalists. G. serves as podcast moderator, curator and executive director of the Colorado Music Experience. He has navigated the Rocky Mountain musical landscape for decades, both as a journalist and as a radio personality. He covered popular music at The Denver Post for 26 years, interviewing more than 3,000 musicians, from Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen, to Bono and Kurt Cobain. Published in numerous magazines including Rolling Stone and National Lampoon, Brown also covered music news and hosted and programmed for a myriad of Denver-based radio stations. He is the author of five books, including the award-winning Red Rocks: The Concert Years, Colorado's Rock Chronicles and Telluride Bluegrass Festival: The First Forty Years. Before that, Steve and Darren also talk about music publicity and journalism - specifically the lack of interviews by Dave and Eddie during the 2007 Van Halen reunion tour. How did the reunion ultimately, finally, happen? Did the media silence help keep the peace? Plus the publicity and marketing around Van Halen's 2012 album A Different Kind Of Truth.
It can be difficult in these modern times...Who to turn to? Who to trust? Is this fake news? No, no, no, dear listener. This is ‘A Different Kind of Truth'!It's 2012 — the year of the London Olympics. A failed attempt to get into the US Squash Court team can mean only one thing. Time for Wolfgang to wrangle up the brothers Van Halen for their first album with David Lee Roth in... well, since Wolfie was but a twinkle in Valerie's eye!Is Ted Templeman coming back into the fold? Will the album just sound like the love child of Alanis Morissette and Westlife? Only one way to find out... TO THE PODCAST!DON'T FORGET!
