We had the pleasure of interviewing VENUES over Zoom video!With their third album “Transience”, VENUES effortlessly pushes the boundaries of what is possible in modern metal. After two strong predecessors “Aspire” and “Solace”, oscillating somewhere between post-hardcore, alternative metal and metalcore, the Stuttgart-based band are finally tearing down all barriers, borders and walls. “Transience” unleashes an emotional cascade full of great melodies, visionary soundscapes, abysmal heaviness and visceral, unfiltered emotion. This is not just an album. This is catharsis. A medicine for a sick world. The antidote to dreariness, indifference and coldness.And yet it is anything but a given fact that VENUES are still standing. Old members left, corona hit hard; yet, from a long dark tunnel emerged a band that has somehow only grown bigger, stronger, more fearless through all the setbacks and catastrophes. “Since our last album, we've grown together enormously as a band,” confirms shouter Robin Baumann. Since 2019, he has been sharing the vocals with wonder voice Lela Gruber, who has given VENUES a huge boost and is easily one of the most versatile, strongest vocalists in modern metal – a voice like an axe for the frozen sea within us. “We all pulled together and can now talk openly about everything,” she says. “That has brought a whole new vibe to the band – not to mention that insane energy.”You can hear it, but you can feel it even more: The ten songs on “Transience” revolve around vanitas, farewells, new beginnings and the inevitability of change; they are emotional projectiles that hit home exactly where they hurt the most: right into our wounded hearts. Recorded in three creative and harmonious sessions with their long-time producer and confidante Christoph Wieczorek (Annisokay) at Sawdust Recordings in Halle, the final act in their trilogy bears all the pain of a wounded world. VENUES don't look away, don't suppress anything, don't sugarcoat. But they don't give up on themselves and this world either and sing, scream and play against powerlessness. They live, they suffer, they love, they breathe; they don't close their eyes to toxic relationships (“Unspoken Words”), they channel emotional baggage (“Godspeed, Goodbye”). But VENUES are at their most moving in their most intimate moments. When Robin Baumann addresses his mother's cancer in “Braille”, for example, or when Lela sings about imprisonment in the depressing “Coming Home”. “I haven't yet managed to sing this song without crying,” she says quietly.This vulnerability, this unfiltered empathy leads to an incredibly intense, at times painstakingly honest album that draws on post-hardcore, alternative rock and electronic prisms. A healing thunderstorm, no less. “When I think back to my 16-year-old self, sitting sadly in his room and immersed in music, I realise what we are actually doing here and that we are this important band for some people today,” says singer Lela. They are: The bristling power of Bring Me The Horizon goes hand in hand with the symphonic arena demolition of In This Moment, infused with a very unique sound that has once and for all become an unmistakable brand on album three. “Transience” is a camera obscura, a prism composed of numerous dazzling facets and immortalised by a band at a new creative and musical peak. “Our last album was a pretty heavy metal record in response to our debut; this time we consciously wanted to be as open and multi-faceted as we are as individuals,” says Robin. “This album sounds the way we always wanted to sound.”VENUES are a metal band at heart, of course. Nevertheless, this has never been a band for those who prefer to think in drawers. For those who don't want to miss out on great melodies or powerful breakdowns, in turn, they are: The band has been playing their way up step by step since 2015. First “Aspire”, then “Solace”, touring extensively for both records. Since the last album, VENUES have been on the road with Emil Bulls and Blind Channel and played in Wacken, and the first new songs were already released back in 2022. Many participating countries to the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 are holding their selection shows across Europe and each week on Radio International we take a look at the ongoing selection processes and play some of the highlights from the National Finals and songs that actually will be selected to represent their country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmoe. Dermot Manning will be reviewing the selection processes over the last week and you hear some of the songs on the show this week. Eurovision Song Contest – Das deutsche Finale 2024: Live Interview with German Finalists. Like in previous years Radio International reaches out to interview some of the acts from the German National Final which in 2024 comprises of nine acts which will be competing for the ticket to Malmoe to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmoe on 11 May 2024. Among the acts is also former German entry Max Mutzke who reached 8th place for Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest 2004 in Istanbul, Turkey with the song "Can't wait until tonight". Will he do the race again or one of the other acts: Bodine Monet, Marie Reim, Ryk, Floryan, Galant, Isaak, Leona or NinetyNine. Radio International this week will be previewing the songs of The German National Final will be bradcast Friday, 16 Feb 202 at 2205 hours on ARD. Melodifestivalen 2024 - Heat 2 Allstarz Melodifestivalen 2024 - Heat 2: 2624 songs were submitted to Swedish Television (SVT) for Melodifestivalen 2024. The selection was narrowed down to 30 acts which were distributed onto five heats. 12 songs will be competing in the Grand Final of Melodifestivalen 2024 on 06 Mar 2024 in Stockholm's Friends Arena. The winner of that show will then represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. On 03 Feb 2024 saw the first of five heats taking place and with that starting the Melodifestivalen 2024 Roadshow. Radio International's JP and Ludvig were in Gothenburg at Heat 2 having had the pleasure of chatting with all six acts during the rehearsals and after the live broadcast. Maria Sur also won a place in the Grand Final of Melodifestivalen 2024 after winning the Heat 2 voting and will perform her song "When you are gone" in Stockholm. Place 3 was Dear Sarah with the song "The Silence after you" and place four was Fröken Snusk with the song "Unga & fria" of which both will compete in the Semi Final of Melodifestivalen 2024. Senhit (San Marino 2011 and 2021) at OGAE Germany Convention 2024 Interview with Senhit (San Marino 2011 and 2021): Surprise guest at the recent edition of OGAE Germany's annual convention 2024 in January in Munich was Senhit. She represented San Marino twice at the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2011 it was with "Stand By" which failed to qualify San Marino for the Grand Final of Eurovision 2011 reaching number 16 in Semi Final 1. Her second attempt was "Adrenalina" with which Senhit qualified San Marino for the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contes 2021 coming 22nd in Rotterdam. Salman and JP were at the contest in Luxembourg and conducted interviews with the participants. The Luxembourg Eurovision Song Contest 2024 - Interview with CHAiLD (Luxembourg National Final 2024): For the first time since 1993, Luxembourg returns to the Eurovision Song Contest. The National Final in Luxembourg - The Luxembourg Song Contest 2024 is scheduled to take place on 27 Jan 2024 from the Rockhal in Esch sur Alzette with eight acts battling it out for the ticket to Malmoe in Sweden where the 68th Eurovision Song Contest will be staged on May 07, 09 and 11, following the victory of Loreen from Sweden in 2023 with the song "Tattoo". Luxembourg has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest thirty-seven times since debuting in its first edition of 1956. The country has won the contest on five occasions: in 1961 with "Nous les amoureux" performed by Jean-Claude Pascal, in 1965 with "Poupée de cire, poupée de son" performed by France Gall, in 1972 with "Après toi" performed by Vicky Leandros, in 1973 with "Tu te reconnaîtras" performed by Anne-Marie David, and finally in 1983 with "Si la vie est cadeau" performed by Corinne Hermès. After a poor result in 1993, Luxembourg was relegated from the 1994 contest in accordance with the new rules implemented at the time, and has since opted to be absent from the event. Eurovision Winner Vicky Leandros who won for Luxembourg in 1972 with the song "Apres-toi" will be guest during the The Luxembourg Song Contest 2024. A total of 459 entries were submitted to RTL out of which eight acts will be competing in the The Luxembourg Song Contest 2024.
