Interview by Angela CroudaceFinnish powerhouse Battle Beast is set to unleash their seventh studio album, Steelbound, on October 17, and frontwoman Noora Louhimo says the record is their most empowering yet.Known for fusing classic heavy metal with symphonic flourishes, 80s-inspired rock, and soaring synths, the band continues to evolve while staying true to their mission of uplifting fans through music.“This album deals with serious issues—life, death, and human rights,” Louhimo explains. “But at its core, Steelbound is about empowerment. We want to encourage people to fight through challenges, whether big or small, and to feel strong enough to go on.” Songs like Last Goodbye reflect this ethos, drawing inspiration from bassist Eero's encounter with a fellow patient battling cancer. “It's about that relentless hunger for life and never giving up,” she adds.Louhimo's own transformation into her stage persona, “Mother Beast,” embodies this spirit. With her striking horns; symbols she describes as “horns of courage” and elaborate stage outfits, she seeks to inspire fans to embrace individuality. “I want people to show their horns, to be their true selves. You are enough just the way you are,” she says.For Louhimo, music is more than performance: it's a lifeline. “Culture is vital for mental health. If we don't have something to escape to, we don't have the strength to carry on. With the Invincible animated series propelling more and more fans to the comic books, now is the perfect time for Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley to reteam on a new series. In a universe populated with numerous rich, wild characters, they could have revamped an infinite number of ideas. They chose Battle Beast, the white lion-like humanoid cursed with an unquenchable rage, and in doing so, Kirkmann and Ottley create an opportunity to reframe the character's original narrative. Battle Beast first appeared in Invincible #19 (2004) and did not return until Invincible #55 (2008). Between those comics is a massive swath of time, and the new series, Invincible Universe: Battle Beast, will explore it fully. The first issue arrives in comic shops next Wednesday. If it's any indication, when this series is over, it will radically alter our understanding of Battle Beast's narrative and its place within the larger Invincible storyline. Afterward, Reacher drives Richard into town to meet with Duffy and return her badge; Reacher and Duffy kiss, and Richard realizes that Reacher is a mole. Quinn sends men to kill everyone investigating him, including Neagley; Neagley kills them and tells Reacher. Quinn arrives at Zachary’s house to question him about the U.S. Army investigating him; Zachary tells him that said unit was Reacher’s. Quinn sends Paulie to kill Reacher, but he escapes, leading to a chase. Reacher kills all the men in the forest except Paulie and takes refuge in a laundromat. Quinn punishes Zachary by forcing Richard to play Russian roulette. Reacher and Duffy search for Teresa in Port Rome, but Harley claims that Quinn changed everything after Reacher escaped.
