Are you still reading these silly show notes? Honestly, bless your heart. You're a true Time Machiner. Or you're just really bored at work. Anyway, on this week's episode, Dave and Milt climb into the Time Machine and rocket back to June 21, 1975 — the land of lava lamps, fringe vests, and an absolutely bonkers Billboard Top 10 Albums chart. We're talkin' Elton, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Beach Boys, and even Alice Cooper giving us all the Welcome-to-My-Nightmare vibes (spoiler: it's not a lullaby). But wait — Milt's back from Africa! That's right, our Chartmeister went on a literal safari. Lions. Giraffes. Possibly cursed sand. He's got stories, and Dave is mildly concerned for his health and sanity. Oh, and intern Jack "The Fact Machine" Nathanson drops in to host a chaotic 80s music trivia quiz that somehow leads to Warrant, Mr. Roboto, David Lee Roth, and yes, Michael Bolton co-writing a KISS song. You can't make this stuff up. The episode ends (because it has to) with the boys politely kicking some albums off the list and replacing them with stuff they actually like. Sorry, Chicago, but y'all were in your weird phase.

Michael Anthony Opens Up About His One Big Regret: Van Halen Deserved a Thunderous Farewell, Not a Whimper For Michael Anthony, former Van Halen bassist, the ride with one of rock's most electrifying bands was nothing short of a dream — until the ending, which still haunts him. In a recent episode of Get on the Bus, Anthony revealed his biggest career regret: how Van Halen's legendary run came to an unceremonious close. “It should have gone out with a fricking bang that shook the world,” he said, “and it was more like a whimper, the way everything ended.” Though he described the band's heyday as “living the dream” and even “a fairy tale,” the behind-the-scenes reality was far from perfect. As years went by, tensions and personal rifts—particularly with guitarist Eddie Van Halen—created a lasting fracture. “Unfortunately, Eddie and I never made amends,” Anthony shared. “We had some issues, and I'm sure that if he had not passed when he did, we would've reconciled… we would've calmed all that stuff down.” In a bittersweet twist, Anthony revealed that there had been talks of a massive reunion tour featuring the original members — a true full-circle moment in the making. “I talked to Wolfgang [Van Halen], and he said there were plans to bring everyone back together,” Anthony recalled. “At that point in Ed's life, he was more like, ‘Hey, the past is the past... water under the bridge.'” But time ran out. Eddie Van Halen passed away in 2020, and with him went the final chance for the ultimate Van Halen reunion. Now, years later, Anthony holds onto the music, the memories — and the what ifs. “That's the only regret I have,” he said. “We were supposed to go out with thunder. Not silence.” Michael Anthony - The TRUE Van Halen Story You've NEVER Heard! https://youtu.be/oKzjBY-OarA?si=TXZlTWyqxHjeu_tB EVH Van Halen guitar keychains - https://www.vanhalenstore.com/page/VH/Little-Guitars/KEYSET-456

Sammy Hagar is up first this week. His new song "Encore, Thank You, Goodnight" is out now. Sammy talks about the song, how it came to him in a dream, and why Wolfgang Van Halen didn't play on it. Sammy is really upfront and candid when he talks, which is appreciated. He also shared his thoughts on playing the last Ozzy/Black Sabbath show and the songs he'll be singing. Doug Aldrich from The Dead Daisies is next. Doug fought a cancer battle last year and talked about that. I'm very happy that he's come out of it, and he says he gets stronger every day. The band dropped a new album called Looking For Trouble, where they cover classic blues songs. He told me how the idea came about and spoke about the recording process and location. He also shared stories of rockers, including David Coverdale of Whitesnake, Ronnie James Dio, Reb Beach, and the first time he met Randy Rhoads. I could talk to Doug all day! Finally, singer Nate Peck joins me. This is the first time I've ever had the chance to speak with Nate. The Michigan-born singer talks about being on American Idol, through getting the job with Firehouse. The first gig they played, he didn't even get to rehearse! Nate speaks of his influences, singing these classic songs, and lots more. It was great to connect with Nate!

On this episode of Exclusively Van Halen, we talk about Sammy Hagar's bold invitation to Wolfgang Van Halen to join him for a special Van Halen-themed residency, the dream that inspired his emotional tribute to Eddie, and why he still holds out hope for more musical magic—even without Alex Van Halen. Sammy Hagar is turning up the heat again—and this time, he's calling out to Eddie Van Halen's son, Wolfgang, with a heartfelt and electrifying offer: “Hey Wolfie, let's do a residency someday—just one show of Van Halen songs!” In a new interview with WRIF, the Red Rocker didn't hold back his admiration for Wolfgang, praising the Mammoth WVH frontman for blazing his own trail. “He's not trying to be his dad, and I love that,” Hagar said with genuine pride. “Let that boy boogie!” Despite Wolfgang's past statements that he won't perform Van Halen songs live, Hagar is holding out hope for a one-night-only celebration. But that's not all. Sammy revealed something even more surreal—his new song Encore, Thank You, Goodnight was inspired by a dream he had where he wrote a song with Eddie Van Halen himself. “I had a friggin' dream and wrote a song with Eddie!” Sammy shared. “That's as real as it gets.” He describes the track as a final chapter, a spiritual jam session that gave him the closure he needed. “The ‘what if' is gone now. I feel good. Healthy, even.” The track features none other than Joe Satriani, who Sammy says completely captured Eddie's essence. “The intro… I don't even try to figure out what Joe's doing,” Hagar laughed. “I ain't torturing myself with that.” One person not involved? Alex Van Halen. “Al and I… we've got a problem,” Hagar admitted. “You'd have to ask him what it is. I don't know. But I knew he probably wouldn't be part of it.” Still, when asked if he regrets his time in Van Halen, Sammy didn't hesitate: “Oh, hell no! The only regret I have is that we didn't make more music. Eddie and I were just getting started. We were capable of so much more.” And as a bonus, Hagar revealed he'll be part of Black Sabbath's farewell show, originally planning to sing No More Tears until Ozzy Osbourne himself asked to sing Hagar's Rock Candy! So now? Sammy's cranking up the volume on Flying High Again. You won't want to miss this episode of Exclusively Van Halen—packed with heart, history, and one seriously rocking dream. #VanHalen #SammyHagar #WolfgangVanHalen #MammothWVH #EddieVanHalen #JoeSatriani #AlexVanHalen #OzzyOsbourne #BlackSabbath #RockNews #ExclusivelyVanHalen #JohnnyBeaneTV Want to create live streams like this? Just two days after their 2025 MMRBQ performance, Mammoth came back to Philadelphia to perform in the very intimate club setting of the Foundry in a Pierre Presents session. Along with playing a set for some very lucky WMMR listeners, Wolfgang Van Halen sat down for a conversation with Pierre Robert in between songs, recorded in front of a live audience full of fans. The pair discussed Mammoth's latest single "The End," including the wicked music video directed by one of Wolf's favorite directors, Robert Rodriguez. They also talked about the legendary 5150 and how Wolf incorporates vintage Van Halen gear into this new music. When Pierre brought up Mammoth's very first single, "Distance," and moving through grief with music, you'll hear the impactful moment that brought the room to a standstill; anyone who's lost a loved one will be able to relate. Wolf is always honest about how the loss of his father, Eddie Van Halen, has affected him, but he's also hopeful and the future is bright for the band. He's preparing for the Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne tribute in Birmingham, touring with Creed this summer, and putting out more new music. https://www.youtube.com/live/CsAEnZv3hvA?si=fWnQ6d6TKoUMJ3ra Mike Rutherford's Secret Tapes: Lost Recording Sessions with Eddie Van Halen Revealed! In a stunning revelation for the guitar world, Genesis guitarist Mike Rutherford has disclosed that he secretly recorded several songs with Eddie Van Halen during the late legend's prime. This news comes on the heels of former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony's comments that Eddie's son, Wolfgang Van Halen, is safeguarding a massive archive of demos. “We recorded every idea we had,” Anthony explained. While Alex Van Halen earlier this year released the final song he worked on with his brother before Eddie's passing in 2020, Rutherford's revelation hints at even more unheard Eddie Van Halen recordings than fans ever imagined. Speaking with My Planet Rocks, Rutherford shared that it wasn't his guitar playing that first caught Eddie's attention but rather an unlikely aspect: his voice. “Eddie heard a song from my second solo album, Acting Very Strange [1982], which I sang,” Rutherford recalled. “He called me up and said, ‘Will you do some writing?' My voice, of all things!” The collaboration brought Rutherford to Los Angeles, but he quickly found himself out of sync with Eddie's nocturnal creative process. “I brought some gear and went to his studio,” Rutherford said. “Eddie told me, ‘Come over about 1:30.' And I thought, ‘That's perfect, just after lunch.' But he meant 1:30 a.m.! He started at night and worked through the early hours. I just couldn't do it.” Despite the late hours, Rutherford took the opportunity to work with Eddie. “We had some sessions. We wrote songs. Bits and pieces,” he revealed. Surprisingly, Rutherford has yet to revisit the recordings. “I've got two boxes of cassettes. I'm not sure I'm mad enough to go through them!” he admitted. “Eddie was an incredible player, and we had a great time, but working through the night wasn't my style.” Rutherford, now preparing for a UK tour with Mike + The Mechanics, noted that late-night sessions often didn't yield productive results. “You'd show up the next day and think, ‘What was that all about?'” Eddie Van Halen's collaborative spirit extended to many other artists, as Alex Van Halen has also revealed. Earlier this year, Alex shared that the Van Halen brothers attempted a project with Chris Cornell and even considered an Ozzy Osbourne-fronted Van Halen lineup, though both ideas ultimately fizzled. While Rutherford's tapes remain untouched, the prospect of lost Eddie Van Halen material continues to fuel excitement, adding another layer to the legend's enduring legacy. He also told me about the record label he co-owns with producing legend, Howard Benson.  Wolfgang Van Halen is up second. He came through Detroit with 3 Doors Down and Creed, so we talked for a few minutes before soundcheck. He told me about playing at the Rock Hall induction ceremony last month. Insane that he got to jam Ozzy's 'Crazy Train' with so many rock legends. We talked about opening up shows, working on new music, and his first year or marriage for starters.  Thanks for listening!

https://youtube.com/live/IjPHR2jXGGc?feature=share On Saturday (October 19), Ozzy Osbourne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist, marking his second recognition by the institution, following his 2006 induction with BLACK SABBATH. Actor and TENACIOUS D frontman Jack Black inducted Ozzy, calling him "the greatest frontman in the history of rock 'n' roll." Black recalled seeing the cover of Ozzy's debut solo album, Blizzard Of Ozz, saying, "It was the most metal thing I had ever seen, and I didn't even know what metal was. Then I went back to Ozzy's BLACK SABBATH albums, and I thought, 'Unholy shit, this guy invented heavy metal—the darkest, heaviest stuff the world had ever heard.'" Seated on a throne, Osbourne humbly accepted the award, saying: "Well, here we are. I can't believe it myself. Let me get the thank-yous out of the way. I'd like to thank everyone who voted me into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for my solo work. A great thank you from the bottom of my heart. My fans have been so loyal over the years, and I cannot thank them enough. I've been lucky to play with some of the world's greatest musicians, and many of them are here tonight. But I have to especially mention Randy Rhoads. If I hadn't met Randy, I don't think I'd be sitting here now. And, more than anyone, I have to thank my wife Sharon, who saved my life, and my grandbabies and babies. I love them all." With his brief speech concluded, Ozzy handed the mic back to Jack Black, and an all-star performance followed. The backing band featured RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith, METALLICA bassist (and former Ozzy band member) Robert Trujillo, producer Andrew Watt, and keyboardist Adam Wakeman. They were joined by TOOL's Maynard James Keenan and Wolfgang Van Halen for a powerful rendition of “Crazy Train.” Zakk Wylde and country star Jelly Roll then took the stage for "Mama, I'm Coming Home," and Billy Idol closed the set with "No More Tears," accompanied by his longtime guitarist Steve Stevens. Sammy Hagar and Slash Light Up the Stage with “Hot Blooded” at the 2024 Rock Hall Induction for Foreigner The 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony became a night to remember when rock icons Sammy Hagar and Slash joined forces to pay tribute to the legendary band Foreigner. As the hall reverberated with excitement, the duo tore into a blistering performance of Foreigner's timeless classic, “Hot Blooded,” sending shockwaves through the audience. With Sammy Hagar's unmistakable voice soaring through the iconic chorus and Slash's signature Les Paul riffs electrifying the crowd, it was a performance that honored Foreigner's legacy while bringing their music into a new era. The chemistry between these two rock veterans was undeniable, as they traded licks and vocal lines, breathing fresh life into the 1978 hit. Hagar, no stranger to the Rock Hall after his own induction with Van Halen, shared his admiration for Foreigner during the ceremony. "These guys paved the way for so many of us," Hagar remarked, "and it's an honor to be here, rocking out to a song that still gets the blood pumping after all these years." Slash echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the influence Foreigner had on the next generation of rock musicians. "Their songwriting, their energy, it's all a part of the DNA of rock 'n' roll." Foreigner's induction has been a long time coming, and this powerhouse collaboration made sure it was celebrated in style. As the final notes of “Hot Blooded” rang out, the crowd was on their feet, a testament to Foreigner's enduring impact on rock history, and the incredible performance delivered by two of the genre's most enduring stars. Whether you were there in person or watching from home, this performance will go down as one of the standout moments in the Rock Hall's history—a true celebration of rock and roll's past, present, and future.

Though excited at first, Satriani struggled with the challenge of replicating Eddie's unique style, saying, “Eddie played in a completely different way. His timing and feel were so different from what I've cultivated over decades." While Alex convinced him to reconsider, Satriani ultimately felt the tribute wasn't the right fit, noting that Wolfgang Van Halen's own tribute to his father offered fans the closure they needed. Instead, Satriani joined Sammy Hagar's Best of All Worlds tour, which includes Michael Anthony and Jason Bonham, playing a mix of songs from Hagar's career, including 15-20 Van Halen tracks. Satriani explains that this project resonated with him because it wasn't solely focused on Van Halen, but on Hagar's legacy as a whole. He appreciated the tour's celebratory vibe, adding that the fans' reaction has been heartwarming. Though he's mindful of not copying Eddie's parts, Satriani has adapted some of Eddie's techniques, blending them with his own style to honor the music while staying true to himself. "It's not a Van Halen tribute," Satriani clarifies, "It's a tribute to Sammy's legacy that happens to include a huge chunk of Van Halen music." “Exclusively Van Halen" is the ultimate destination for all things Van Halen. Ugly American Werewolf in London: Mammoth with Wolfgang Van Halen Live Review

As huge Van Halen fans growing up, The Wolf & Action Jackson always took a keen interest in the career of Wolfgang Van Halen and his band Mammoth. Though The Wolf had seen Wolfgang on tour with Van Halen on bass near the end of their run, he'd missed opportunities to see Mammoth in the past. However, he remedied when they hit Louisville on the last night of their latest tour of the USA and boy was he treated to a killer show. Wolfgang Van Halen is front and center as the lead singer, lead guitarist and lead storyteller. He delighted in the fact that his band has received so much support for their first two albums (Mammoth WVH & Mammoth II) and entertained the crowd by pronouncing Louisville (Loo-a-vul) correctly, profusely (and profanely) thanking opening act Intervals and threw us a headfake with a few bars of an Oasis classic. The tight band ripped through songs off Mammoth II like Erase Me, Better Than You and Take A Bow while also breaking out the acoustic for Distance and kicking out his Dad Eddie's favorite Think It Over from the first record. He bends bluesy notes in some of his solos while working in some of that tapping that made Eddie a Rock God. It's no surprise they've earned opening gigs with Metallica and Foo Fighters as well as some top notch European festival spots. Seeing them in a club (The Mercury Ballroom) while they're on their way up was a fun night out and we highly recommend catching them if you can! This week we are thrilled to sit down with Wolfgang Van Halen, who you probably know from playing bass in a little band called Van Halen as well as fronting his own band, Mammoth WVH. We discuss what it was like growing up with Eddie Van Halen as your father (and why he didn't want Wolfgang skateboarding), formative musical experiences and weigh the odds of a Jonah Bayer signature guitar. We also get into Wolfgang's other obsession: Video games. We discuss the way Nintendo 64 paved the way for this hobby, the difference between Mario/Wario and the glory days of Guitar Hero and Rock Band. We also get into how Wolfgang's mom Valerie Bertinelli helped support his gaming habit (and how he tries to scare her with games today), why being an adult means you can basically do whatever you want and Vanessa wonders why her dentist felt the need to clean the stains on the back of her teeth? We also play a round of YESTOLGIA OR NOSTALGIA where we discuss the reboot of the video game "Crazy Taxi," the dramatic update of "Bewitched" and the return of Wendy's Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich. Wolfgang also lets us in on the secret reason why his dad always ordered the Filet-O-Fish when stopping for fast food. Be sure to check out Mammoth EVH's latest album "Mammoth II" and catch them on tour right now! If you're interested in learning more about the SA-126 guitar, check that out HERE!
