Huge shocker incoming: Zach Broyles made a Tube Screamer. The Mythos Envy Pro Overdrive is Zach's take on the green apple of his eye, with some special tweaks including increased output, more drive sounds, and a low-end boost option. Does this mean he can clear out his collection of TS-9s? Of course not. This time on Dipped in Tone, Rhett and Zach welcome Tyler Bryant, the Texas-bred and Nashville-based rocker who has made waves with his band the Shakedown, who Rhett credits as one of his favorite groups. Bryant, it turns out, is a TS-head himself, having learned to love the pedal thanks to its being found everywhere in Texas guitar circles.Bryant shares how he scraped together a band after dropping out of high school and moving to Nashville, including the rigors of 15-hour drives for 30-minute sets in a trusty Ford Expedition. He's lived the dream (or nightmare, depending on the day) and has the wisdom to show it.Throughout the chat, the gang covers modeling amps and why modern rock bands still need amps on stage; the ins and outs of recording-gear rabbit holes and getting great sounds; and the differences between American and European audiences. The milestone tenth studio album from folk-blues luminary Ruthie Foster, Mileage finds the singer-songwriter reflecting on a life that's been full of professional triumphs, courtesy of a musical journey that took a self-described “little Black girl with a guitar” from singing at churches in rural Texas to chalking up multiple Grammy nominations. With this album in particular, Ruthie shares a collection of songs that was inspired by heartfelt conversations with producer Tyler Bryant and Rebecca Lovell, Bryant's wife and one-half of the duo Larkin Poe. In that regard, Mileage was borne from a unique and very personal experience, one that found the music emerging organically and in ways that were both real and illuminating. The result is an album flush with creative synergy and symmetry, a snapshot of a career well spent.Consequently, Mileage also marks for a profound collaboration with the legendary Sun Records, one that allows Ruthie's narrative to intertwine with the legendary label's rich tapestry of musical history courtesy of a soul-stirring journey through America's musical heartland. In that regard, it's more than merely an album — rather, it's an invitation to take part in a conversation about memories, emotions, and shared humanity. Speaking with Lee and Billy, Ruthie describes the ways in which she was able to dig deep into her own life story and bring to life her dreams, desires and aspirations. With both verve and vulnerability, she shares her story. No matter whether she's singing blues, gospel, R&B, or rock and roll, on records or in conversation, Ruthie Foster makes it an honor to simply be in her presence. Flowing East and West: The Perfectly Imperfect Journey to a Fulfilled Life
There are all kinds of reasons Chris Hendricks could have a poor outlook: he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age 4 and his doctor told him he would have a hard time in life; he was in and out of a wheelchair in middle and high school and suffered the particular brand of cruelty practiced by teenagers; at one point, he lost his grandmother, his girlfriend and his band all at the same time. Life has not been easy for Chris. However, Chris chooses to look for magical moments instead of miserable ones. He uses music when he needs inspiration and lives by the philosophy that believing is seeing instead of the opposite. Please listen in to hear some of Chris' story, and his amazing music that are part of his perfectly imperfect journey. Bio Chris Hendricks' music is a blend of pop and RnB with sprinkles of influence from James Taylor to Eminmen. Chris began singing at the age of four for friends and family and hasn't stopped since. "Some folks thought The Wans were dead in the water. I like to think we were in hibernation,” says lead singer Simon Kerr of the Nashville based rock band, The Wans. Described as sounding “like The Stooges having a baby with Stone Temple Pilots” by Classic Rock Magazine, the group are welcoming their highly-anticipated fourth LP Magical Touch, which includes 11 songs that showcase a refreshing new approach that is sure to perk up your ears. Magical Touch will be released on July 26, 2023, which is exactly 11 years to the date of their first release. The Wans' new eleven-song LP, Magical Touch, was co-produced, recorded and mixed by Michael Fahey at Starbird Sound in Nashville using vintage recording equipment and recorded live with minimal overdubs. With two new additions to the band, Akshay Narang and Noah Denney, it was sure to add to the expansion of the sonic qualities. Noah Denney, formerly of Tyler Bryant and The Shakedown and who originally played bass in The Wans, now sits behind the drums. “The new sound is so exciting for me. We've known Akshay for over a decade and bonded over everything from Nine Inch Nails to Depeche Mode so it was only natural to ask him to play some synth and guitar with the band.”, says Kerr. The hard-touring Wans have been on the rise for a while now, playing major festivals like Austin City Limits, Voodoo Fest, Forecastle and Hangout Fest, and sharing bills with Pearl Jam, Beck, and Queens of the Stone Age. They recorded their 2014 album He Said She Said, with Grammy-winning producer Dave Cobb (Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Rival Sons), the acclaimed record landed them press at USA Today, NME, Consequence of Sound, The AV Club, and more. Not only that, the band's music has been featured everywhere from major motion picture Point Break and TV shows like Nashville, Longmire, and Necessary Roughness to a powerhouse commercial for BMW'S 4 Series Gran Coupe, which was soundtracked by the band's muscular riff rocker "Black Pony."“This record feels like my novella, a journey similar to Steinbecks ‘East of Eden'. It took 4 years to write and a week to record.” says Kerr. There's no doubt that The Wans wore their influences proudly on their sleeves, like Queens of the Stone Age and Nirvana, but this record feels more precise and like nothing we've heard before from the band. There are certainly hints of 80's and 90's Brit-Pop influences, but the songwriting has become more focused and that's not an overthought.” Kerr continues, “My dad, Tony Kerr, has been my main songwriting partner since I was 16. Some Father-Son's bond over fishing, but we bond over writing songs. It's become effortless when we write together.”Bassist Thomas Bragg states, “Simon and I have been so excited with what's going on in the Irish/British music scene in the last few years. Bands like Idles and Fontaines D.C have made some of the best records of the last decade and I think that definitely had an effect on our music and this record.”The Wans' have always shared a brotherhood and love for making rock n' roll, which is much needed in today's overall climate and music scene. Lyrically, this record purposefully radiates self-awareness, love, and togetherness. “The Wans' are everything to me. When it comes to the song's they're all we have.” says Kerr. The great Joe Strummer once said, “People have got to stop pretending they're not in the world. It's time to take that humanity back into the center of the ring and follow that for a time. Think on that. Without people you're nothing.”Host - Trey MitchellIG - treymitchellphotography IG - feeding_the_senses_unsensoredFB - facebook.com/profile.php?id=100074368084848
I love a bit of Southern Rock n Roll..slide guitar...Tennesse bourbon and some good old stomp. That's what you get from this great Southern American rock band. I was taken aback by the album cover of Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown's new album Shake the Roots. A grungy cowboy-looking dude with a steel guitar strapped across his shoulder, well that's enough to get my interest. Add to this a great selection of blues, and rock, with distinctive roots from way back, and you have my full attention. Join me this week as we check out this great band Tyler Byrant and the Shakedown. Join Tyler and I as we talk about Tyler and his band overcoming being a musicians type of band and how he still gets nervous/excited before going on stage. How he recently had a moment where he enjoyed being at a show as a spectator laying on the grass and not watching the show, but listening to it and how perception isn't always what it seems. We also get into being an old soul, how we think that might just come from being comfortable with ourselves as we've gotten older, how that has translated over to his career of not really fitting in any one place, but fitting in wherever the band is and finding success through the bands work ethic. Tyler also talks about owning his own label, how he and his wife were pen pals before getting married and how they've traversed their relationship with both being touring musicians and more in this conversation. Rev. Tyler Bryant, our Director of Online Learning and Pastor in Marshall, IL preaches Read the Writing on the Wall.
Tylar Bryant is a soulful country recording artist whose path took him on a journey to take the stage in the country music arena. Championing the challenge, where no one saw him coming, Tylar is a new contender who's in it to win it. The former MMA fighter changed his career path to pursue a passion that caught him completely by surprise. He laid down his gloves to pick up a songwriter's pen and a guitar. In a courageous leap of faith to chase his dream, Tylar moved to Nashville in 2019. Known for his charismatic stage presence, electric live performances, and infamous beer showers among his audiences, onlookers would never expect Tylar Bryant to be anything but a country music entertainer. Tylar grew up listening to an array of music from rap (Zro, Tupac, Biggie, Hawk, Pimp C) and the tunes that echoed in the background at his grand mom's home (Al Green, Luther Vandross, The Temptations, Diana Ross). The Texas native prides himself in his authenticity and ability to infuse a mix of styles and sounds. Influenced by some of country music's greatest voices and performers (such as Jim Reeves, Randy Travis and Chris Young), Bryant marries modern and traditional country sounds with rock and R&B grooves for an added twist. Playing more than 80 shows a year, Tylar's canvassed the Lone Star State. In 2017, Tylar recorded his debut EP, titled DON'T LET GO, in Nashville co-producing the project that features all original tunes.Hope you guys enjoy this wonderful interview!!!! :)
