Misfits is a 1986 compilation album by the American punk rock band Misfits. Officially titled Misfits, but also known as Collection, Collection 1, or Collection I, the album features twenty songs by the band. The tracks include some of the group's early singles, as well as songs from their 1982 album Walk Among Us, their 1983 album Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood, and the 1985 compilation album Legacy of Brutality, which was curated exclusively by vocalist Glenn Danzig after the band had dissolved in 1983. Collection I was first released on July 1, 1986 by Plan 9 and Caroline Records, and was followed by Collection II in 1995. Both Collection albums were included in the boxed set The Misfits, which was released in 1996. www.frumess.com FRUMESS is POWERED by www.riotstickers.com/frumess GET 200 DIECUT STICKERS FOR $69 RIGHT HERE - NO PROMO CODE NEED JOIN THE PATREON FOR LESS THAN A $2 CUP OF COFFEE!! https://www.patreon.com/Frumess

Eugene Robinson was at many iconic hardcore shows in the 80s--as a musician (He played in Whipping Boy), as a journalist, and as a fan. The scene was not always a pretty place. He's been in enough fights that he wrote a book about it. Fight: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Ass-Kicking but Were Afraid You'd Get Your Ass Kicked For Asking. But Eugene's latest book details his hardcore years and it's another mouthful. A Walk Across Dirty Water and Straight Into Murderer's Row: A Memoir. So we brought him on to tell his punk stories. This is easily the most intense episode of In Defense of Ska. There are many violent stories, including the infamous Misfits show in San Francisco in the early 80s where the band hurls homophobic slurs at the crowd and then Paul Caiafa (aka Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein) nearly kills a kid. Eugene tells this and other stories in graphic detail. We also talk about Dead Kennedys and SSD in Staten Island, Bad Brains' famous 3-day run at CBGBs, Whipping Boy's first show ever (opening for Circle Jerks), and the time Eugene got jumped on his way to see The Clash film Rude Boy. He also tells us how his love for The Specials inspired him to go to college at Stanford, how he made a lot of money arm wrestling a group of guys and how he went to high school with the members of early New York dance/ska band Urban Blight. Plus we talk about his band Black Face which he did with Black Flag bassist Chuck Dukowski, and how Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi) tried to get them to change the name to Black Velvet because "Black Face is a fucked up name." Eugene explains why he didn't take Ian seriously (Hint: It's because he wrote "Guilty of Being White.") Support the show
On this show, we discuss the new documentary film written and directed by musician and animal rights advocate Moby. The film is called Punk Rock Vegan Movie and spans a number of decades examining the ongoing relationship between the worlds of punk music and animal rights, and how punk ideology is associated with animal rights activism and veganism. The film premiered in January 2023 at the Slamdance Film Festival and is freely available to watch on Moby's YouTube channel. https://moby.com/news/punk-rock-vegan-movie/ The film, which is Moby's directorial debut, includes interviews with some of the biggest names in punk and rock history, like Ian Mackaye, HR, Dave Navarro, Ray Cappo, Andrew Hurley, Tony Kanal, Tim McIlrath, Water Schreifels, Dave Dictor, Derrick Green, Steve Ignorant, Theo Kogan, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, Amy Lee, and Captain Sensible. Slamdance Film Festival wrote about the film: Moby tells the story of how punk rock became such a fertile and surprising breeding ground for vegan activism. It's also a call to action, unapologetically reminding people that in a deeply broken world it's incumbent upon each of us to stand up and fight intelligently, passionately, and loudly against injustice. Today I'm joined by Moby to discuss his film ‘Punk Rock Vegan Movie! The new documentary will have its world premiere and be the Opening Night film for the 2023 Slamdance Film Festival on January 20 in Park City, Utah. The film, which is Moby's directorial debut, is a passionate and stylistically idiosyncratic look at the ongoing relationship between the worlds of punk rock and animal rights. It includes interviews with some of the biggest names in punk and rock history, like Ian Mackaye, HR, Dave Navarro, Ray Cappo, Andrew Hurley, Tony Kanal, Tim McIlrath, Water Schreifels, Dave Dictor, Derrick Green, Steve Ignorant, Theo Kogan, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, Amy Lee, and Captain Sensible. Moby tells the story of how punk rock became such a fertile and surprising breeding ground for vegan activism. It's also a call to action, unapologetically reminding people that in a deeply broken world it's incumbent upon each of us to stand up and fight intelligently, passionately, and loudly against injustice. In the spirit of punk rock, Moby will be giving the film away for free following the Slamdance premiere. “'PUNK ROCK VEGAN MOVIE' was created to shine a light on the surprising and inspiring history of punk rock and animal rights, but also to remind people of the importance and desperate urgency of adopting the uncompromising ethics and actions of the original punk rock activists,” said Moby. “After it makes its world premiere at Slamdance, it's yours. It's my goal to give the movie away, as I can't in good conscience try to profit from what is essentially a labor of love and activism." At 16, Youtube personality, actor, musician and budding music critic Elliott Fullam has a pretty impressive resume. His youtube channel, "Little Punk People" has over 80K followers. He's interviewed everyone from ICE-T, James Hetfield (Metallica), Keith Morris (Black Flag/Circle Jerks/Off!), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Tom Araya (Slayer) J. Mascis (Dinosaur, Jr) and Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein (Misfits) just to name a few. But it was Elliott's spot-on homage to Ian Curtis from an old Joy Division "Disorder" live video that really caught my attention. HIs next acting project—a horror film entitled "Terrifier 2" will be coming out this summer as a new animated series where he plays the lead will follow next year. We talked about all of the above as well as what interview subject intimidates him, the silly gore of horror films, live music as a religious experience, the price of fame and much more. https://www.youtube.com/user/littlepunkpeople instagram: @elltiottfullam --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/scott-crawford3/message

Doyle, Davey Suicide, Malaki, Authentic Sellout, Big Scary Robot Concert Date: June 17, 2017 Venue: Brick By Brick Location: San Diego, CA Review by Yvette Arambula Interview conducted by Justin Goyette Having arrived at the venue close to 10 PM in order to interview the man himself, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, we missed all of the opening bands and most of Davey Suicide before we finally went inside the venue. This night we were trying out a new interviewer, Justin, and what better way to throw him into it than to have him interview one of his idols. Who says COMA can't make dreams come true? Albeit, in a nerve-wracking, slightly terrifying manner. That's what we do. We met up with Doyle's tour manager and he led us into the band wagon. I had never been inside a tour bus, but it was basically what I expected. Doyle was dressed in his signature garb and make-up. After offering us water, we sat down and got the interview rolling. The bus was running the whole time which accounts for that humming background noise. No amount of filters could completely remove it without making the recording sound tinny and less audible. The heavy musk of metal show punched us in the face when we went inside. Davey Suicide was on stage but we were too busy trying to meet up with Justin's wife to pay as much attention as we needed to for a fair review. There was a good crowd inside but it wasn't unbearably full that I ended up with many dozens of DNA samples on my clothing. (I'm talking about shed skin cells that may be floating around people's sweat, not anything more unsavory.) Doyle finally came onstage and the crowd moved towards them. A pretty good mosh pit started going eventually. Justin participated as much as he could without being an asshole. In fact, he actually tried to help one guy up when he fell, but another berserker ran into them and they both fell over in a rather comedic manner. All in good fun. At one point when the pit dispersed for a few minutes, a lonely chancla (word for sandal, flip-flop, slipper, etc. that is often thrown at misbehaving children) was left in the middle of the beer-soaked floor. Its owner shuffled back to it while the coast was still clear. The show was energetic; everyone thrashed about which just added to the kinetic activity as Doyle and Alex moved around the stage. Before each song, Alex would say, “it's kind of like a love song; you can dance if you want,” which if you look at it based on the song titles, they do sound like some kind of twisted odes to “love” as dark creatures know it. You can check out some live footage of the show on our Facebook page.

We tried to contain our fiendish excitement on this one, but we failed, creeps. As ever, 'all hell breaks loose', and we end up talking about some pretty random stuff with the big guy.
