On this week's Talkhouse Podcast, we've put together what might seem like two vastly different musicians, but they're connected by a deep respect and by a truly rebellious spirit that's reflected in their names: Steve Ignorant and Sunny War. Sunny War has been releasing bluesy, folky, virtuosic albums for years, but recently hooked up with the notable Americana label New West for the album Anarchist Gospel, which features not only some of her best songs yet, but also a bunch of notable guest performers, like singer-songwriter David Rawlings and My Morning Jacket's Jim James. You might not guess it from just a surface listen, but War cut her teeth not just on classic songwriters and fingerpickers, but on plenty of harder, more left-of-center music as well. On Anarchist Gospel she covers a Ween song and paraphrases a lyric by the legendary anarcho-punk band Crass—which is the genesis of today's conversation. Check out Sunny War's “Whole” right here, in which she namechecks Crass. The other half of today's chat is Steve Ignorant, a founding member of Crass and still the band's flag bearer more than 40 years later. Now Crass is often overlooked by punk historians who don't run deeper than the Sex Pistols or the Clash, but they were in many ways just as important. Crass were unapologetically political, making anti-corporate, anti-fascist, anti-racist, anti-bullshit statements in both their music and out in the streets—back when that could be a much more dangerous thing to do than it is now. Though Crass split in the early 1980s, Ignorant has performed under various guises over the years, and still plays gigs that cover his vast musical history, including new material as Steve Ignorant's Slice of Life. At 65, he's still got plenty of the anarchist's spirit in him, as you'll hear. In this chat, War and Ignorant—that sounds funny together, doesn't it?—talk about growing up as true outsiders—he in post-war England, her in drug-friendly Los Angeles. They chat about War's devotion to Crass, including a misspelled tattoo she got way too young. And they get into their problems with how young people are educated, and offer a pretty smart, simple solution. Enjoy.  Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Steve Ignorant and Sunny War for chatting. If you liked what you heard, please follow Talkhouse on your favorite podcasting platform, and check out all the good stuff we've got at Talkhouse.com. Today I'm joined by Moby to discuss his film ‘Punk Rock Vegan Movie! The new documentary will have its world premiere and be the Opening Night film for the 2023 Slamdance Film Festival on January 20 in Park City, Utah. The film, which is Moby's directorial debut, is a passionate and stylistically idiosyncratic look at the ongoing relationship between the worlds of punk rock and animal rights. It includes interviews with some of the biggest names in punk and rock history, like Ian Mackaye, HR, Dave Navarro, Ray Cappo, Andrew Hurley, Tony Kanal, Tim McIlrath, Water Schreifels, Dave Dictor, Derrick Green, Steve Ignorant, Theo Kogan, Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein, Amy Lee, and Captain Sensible. Moby tells the story of how punk rock became such a fertile and surprising breeding ground for vegan activism. It's also a call to action, unapologetically reminding people that in a deeply broken world it's incumbent upon each of us to stand up and fight intelligently, passionately, and loudly against injustice. In the spirit of punk rock, Moby will be giving the film away for free following the Slamdance premiere. “'PUNK ROCK VEGAN MOVIE' was created to shine a light on the surprising and inspiring history of punk rock and animal rights, but also to remind people of the importance and desperate urgency of adopting the uncompromising ethics and actions of the original punk rock activists,” said Moby. “After it makes its world premiere at Slamdance, it's yours. It's my goal to give the movie away, as I can't in good conscience try to profit from what is essentially a labor of love and activism." There's something for everyone in here, especially those who have battled with life - that's pretty much all of us, right? Gizz was really generous with his time and we cover a lot of ground and he even plays a few songs live including a version of The Prodigy's Fuel My Fire which never made the final edit. Dogs are often cooked alive in what is a new festival set up in 2009 in a bid to honour ancient ‘dog eating traditions. Thatcher on Acid with Andy Tuck in conversation with David Eastaugh Thatcher on Acid were an English anarcho-punk band. They formed in Somersetduring 1983. Their name is a satirical reference to former UK prime minister Margaret Thatcher.[3] Ben Corrigan, Bob Butler and Andy Tuck also played in Schwartzeneggar with ex-Crass member, Steve Ignorant. The band opened the anarcho-punk band Conflict's "Gathering of the 5000" show at Brixton Academy,[2] an event which resulted in many arrests and achieved a degree of infamy.

Greetings to the Living. And the Dead. In this episode of Up Is Down I speak with author, magician and survivor Nathaniel J Harris who hails from a long line of notorious occultists and practicing magicians in the UK. We discuss chaos magick and his departure from the so-called "magick scene". He details some of the fraud that makes up what is considered by many to be chaos magick and names a few names of those who have made a business of misinforming people and manufacturing consent, particularly the Initiates Of Thanateros. (IOT)Nathaniel is quite outspoken in the area of calling out pedos, frauds and abusers. Just check out his youtube channel. We spend some time discussing Satanic Ritual Abuse, mind-control, Voudon (voodoo for you westerners) and creative civil disobedience. He has authored several books on the occult including his life practice integrating I Ching into chaos magick with science and technology in a 21st century grimoire entitled Neuronomicon. He has also written an autobiography of his upbringing in an occult bloodline, Accidental Antichrist, which is equally funny, informative and tragic. I hope you enjoy this episode and check out his channel and look into his books. I have a feeling Nathaniel and I will be speaking again in the future, so stay tuned for more information about his work and the philosophy and practice of the Neuronomicon. This week we tak to anarcho punk legend Steve Ignorant. Steve was the lead singer in the legendary punk band Crass. We also get the lowdown on our new partners in crime from across the pond Alterati.com. and chat it up with head honcho Joseph Matheny. In this weeks episode we discuss (with Steve): Busting punk myths, Anarcho punks humble beginings, The influence of Crass and Dial House, pranking the government, and Punch and Judy!Due to a breakdown in the normally iron-like SittngNow communication network, Daddytank was unable to mobilise in time. However, Ken is at hand with a slab of droney brilliance from the amazing Lunar Abyss Quartet with 'Buruvana'.If you have any queries, suggestions, insults etc. Please feel free to email ken@sittingnow.co.uk.Enjoy!Steve Ignorant Biography now available:The day that Stephen Williams walked up the path to Dial House and found Jeremy Ratter at the end of it, sitting at a typewriter, was undoubtedly an auspicious event for both of them - not to mention for many of us.  It was 1977, and although there were fifteen years and a world of social privilege separating them, the two shared something much more important: their dissatisfaction with the life that society was offering them. Steve had recently been infected with Punk Rock at a gig by the Clash, and Jeremy had a drum kit. Together, they formed Crass.  Over the next seven years, Crass would stencil its name in indelible paint across the face of British culture. They would become the band that rattled the timbers in the Houses of Parliament, infiltrated teenage magazines, fought savage anti-establishment, pro-humanitarian battles, and challenged the music industry with a new definition of DIY.The Rest Is Propaganda is not, however, the story of that band.  Rather, it is the story of a young boy who grew up on the streets of Dagenham, wearing Tuf shoes and holey jumpers, being railroaded to a life on the factory floor.  This is the story of a lad who learned about life on on the terraces of Upton Park, in the pubs and clubs of East London, behind the counter of Wallis's supermarket, and why he left that all behind. It is the story of how Stephen Williams became Steve Ignorant. And what he did after.

Have you ever wondered how so many news anchors and publishers seem to say or print the exact same headlines and talking points? Isn't it uncanny how they say precisely the same words at the same time, in the same way with nearly identical tone and inflection? It's almost as if there's a writer's room and they've been given script. Do you ever get the feeling that there's a lot more to the story that you won't get to learn because the cycle of information is moving at such breakneck speeds that it'll just get washed out within a few hours? Or even a few minutes? And what about follow-up reporting on certain events? We know there's a lot more going on in the world today than what we're being told. So why is the news dominated by one-sided stories echoing the same party lines? It's almost as if we're being brainwashed with repetition, flashing colors, signals and countdowns. We've known for sometime that the media is controlled by large multi-billion dollar conglomerates operating on a bottom-line basis to provide the world with news based on "objective" reporting. What happens when 90 or so companies that at one time worked together to verify and corroborate news items for public consumption get consumed by larger corporate interests and become leviathans of broadcasting? How do the Intelligence Communities influence what we read, hear and see every day?And how long have the CIA paid people in major media, including Hollywood and network television, to effectively filter and fabricate stories in order to obfuscate unsavory truths while simultaneously pushing self-aggrandizing narratives in efforts to direct and redirect attention to and from certain realities? The answers just might surprise you. Or not.Tune in to this episode of Up Is Down for a quick rundown of how the mainstream media has been corrupted, what it means for you as a sovereign individual with free will to think for yourself, and what you can do to protect that sovereignty.((((S U P P O R T THE S H O W)))) https://paypal.me/frankenbones?locale.x=en_USVALUE-FOR-VALUE: Consider the value you have for yourself as a free person with the ability to think for yourself. Greetings all. Back from a short hiatus, I had the pleasure of talking with Michael Patrick from the Neon Neuron Podcast via Skype. Michael is a warm, interesting and welcoming individual who hosts a podcast about art and creative types. He listened to my MK ULTRA series, shit his pants, and subsequently wanted to talk with me about my process and the origin of Up Is Down. So we Skyped it up and had a great conversation about podcasting and why we do it, what we like about it, why we make art and how art and creativity informs our ability to think critically about the world and how we use that to produce new and different forms of art (podcasts). We also talk about all the great fringe topics that interest us like mind control, media narratives, addiction, racism, child trafficking, mythology, love and marriage (and divorce), history, and loads of talk about ART and what it means to us and why we do it. This was a great conversation with a lot of background about me and the podcast. It was such a joy to take a break from all the darkness and just have a conversation. Look forward to more interviews with interesting people as I feel the podcast pivoting again. Of course I will still produce powerful pieces of informational art to feed your mind, but expect more occasional shows like this one. Check out Michael's podcast NEON NEURON to learn more about him and his interests:https://www.neonneuron.comHe can also be found on iTunes and AnchorAnd of course, please consider supporting this podcast Up Is Down by clicking here:https://paypal.me/frankenbones?locale.x=en_USAnd visit my website to check out my other stuff: deanreiner.com((((S U P P O R T THE S H O W))))Value for Value.
