S3E4 Kaiju Unite w/ Son of Godzilla (1967) and Destroy All Monsters (1968) With GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE upon us, we salute the Big G himself, GODZILLA, with a pair of his movies made a year apart from each other, that show his tremendous range. First, the radioactive mutant dinosaur tackles family comedy in SON OF GODZILLA (1967), the "Courtship of Eddie's Father" of kaiju movies. But unlike so many movie and TV single dads, Godzilla has to rear young Minya while battling overgrown mantises and a freaky-assed spider called Kumonga. I'd like to see Dustin Hoffman do that in "Kramer vs. Kramer!" Then, Godzilla shows his serious side in the greatest monster mash of them all, DESTROY ALL MONSTERS! All the kaiju are here--Godzilla! Rodan! Mother! Gorosaurus! Anguirus! Ghidorah!--and they are smashing cities! This was supposed to be the final Godzilla film, so GOJIRA (1954) director and OMFYS GOAT Ishiro Honda directs it with a poignant tone. Movie and TV critic Matt Zoller Seitz was booked for this episode but he had to reschedule. We hope to have him back soon. Greg Franklin and Philena Franklin also couldn't make it so it's just Bob and Cory this time, and they still managed to gab for over an hour. AMAZING! Besides the Kaiju Classics, Bob and Cory discuss the new remake of ROAD HOUSE with Jake Gyllenhaal. One host is Yeh, and the other is Meh on Prime's big streaming release, so it's like Siskel and Ebert for people who smoked too much Super Silver Haze. They also talk about the Netflix documentary AMERICAN CONSPIRACY: THE OCTOPUS MURDERS and what to see THIS SATURDAY at Noir City Hollywood. There's something for everyone here. SON OF GODZILLA and DESTROY ALL MONSTERS are streaming on Criterion Channel, Max, Tubi, and the Pluto Godzilla channel. In the bands my guest has played with over the past, what 30 years maybe – like Minority, Brick, One Against Many and presently Black Mercy – I'm getting influences from some outstanding bands and I'm thinking Negative Approach, Whipping Boy, Poison Idea, Artificial Peace definitely a bit of Napalm Death thrown in there to grind things up a bit. Fuck, just saying those band names makes me want to do a back somersault…but at my age and all that, I'd better give that a miss.In addition to his hardcore vocals, he's also a skater, podcaster, caipoerista, comic book aficionado, husband and dad. I'm really interested how we get drawn to particular cultural scenes – music, comics, painting, design, poetry…and how that relates to which senses we favour – visual, aural, tactile – and which of our skillsets that appeals to.https://www.iwannajumplikedeedee.comI Wanna Jump Like Dee Dee is the music podcast that does music interviews differently. Yes, the three game West Coast road trip did not go well. No sugar coating that. But does that make Jared Bednar shuffle the lines up a bit to try and get some players going? Or do we just chalk the bad trip up to just that? A bad three games we can all move on from and have confidence in our guys to bounce back for this home stretch? We also discuss why Bowen Byram seems to be the new whipping boy from the section of Avalanche fans who are just looking for someone to blame everything on since Samuel Girard isn't around. Why do fans do this? Do fans live entirely too much in the present instead of letting things play out?And The Athletic released their favorites for the top of the NHL Awards with Cale Makar at the top of the Norris AND the Hart. Being a body-builder and MMA fighter, Eugene S Robinson was a bit of an anomoly as the charismatic front man for the band he founded OXBOW, and before that in Whipping Boy, a more traditional punk rock outfit in the early 80's. It's in his new book, A Walk Across Dirty Waters and Straight Into Murderer's Row: A Memoir (Feral House) that we learn how he navigated these sometimes murky waters with braun and confrontation, a style he had had time to perfect as a black man in the world of punk rock. He's a direct and brash writer with a penchant for vivid story-telling of his often turbulent life. He's been a contributing writer and/or editor-at-large for GQ, Vice, Hustler and many more magazines and continues to spill his musings on his different platforms; his vlog Show Stomper with Eugene S Robinson allows him a place to air politics and MMA issues, and his blog Look What You Made Me Do, is an often personal, moving and funny account of his life and times. The new OXBOW record Love's Holiday (Ipecac) features the song Lovely Murk which was recently nominated for a Grammy, a first for this human who continues to expand his brand in brilliant ways.

Host Nate Wilcox welcomes Eugene S. Robinson to discuss his new memoir "A Walk Across Dirty Water and Straight Into Murderer's Row" which covers his live during the period he went from dancing at Studio 54, playing saxophone in a New York no wave band to leading NorCal hardcore band Whipping Boy and that band's evolution into a post-hardcore noise rock band that would ultimately become Oxbow. Eugene Robinson was at many iconic hardcore shows in the 80s--as a musician (He played in Whipping Boy), as a journalist, and as a fan. The scene was not always a pretty place. He's been in enough fights that he wrote a book about it. Fight: Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Ass-Kicking but Were Afraid You'd Get Your Ass Kicked For Asking. But Eugene's latest book details his hardcore years and it's another mouthful. A Walk Across Dirty Water and Straight Into Murderer's Row: A Memoir. So we brought him on to tell his punk stories. This is easily the most intense episode of In Defense of Ska. There are many violent stories, including the infamous Misfits show in San Francisco in the early 80s where the band hurls homophobic slurs at the crowd and then Paul Caiafa (aka Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein) nearly kills a kid. Eugene tells this and other stories in graphic detail. We also talk about Dead Kennedys and SSD in Staten Island, Bad Brains' famous 3-day run at CBGBs, Whipping Boy's first show ever (opening for Circle Jerks), and the time Eugene got jumped on his way to see The Clash film Rude Boy. He also tells us how his love for The Specials inspired him to go to college at Stanford, how he made a lot of money arm wrestling a group of guys and how he went to high school with the members of early New York dance/ska band Urban Blight. Plus we talk about his band Black Face which he did with Black Flag bassist Chuck Dukowski, and how Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi) tried to get them to change the name to Black Velvet because "Black Face is a fucked up name." Eugene explains why he didn't take Ian seriously (Hint: It's because he wrote "Guilty of Being White.") Support the show
The usual crew of Joe Rivers, Gabbie Nirenburg, Juan Rodríguez and David Coleman join forces to debate the big fat zero in music reviews. What does a zero mean? Can it be justified? Is it used just to drive traffic from aggregators? Plus, as elder millennials, we like to look back at the 1990s, so we talk about an album from the era that's deserving of more love and attention: "Heartworm" by Whipping Boy
Senior managing editor The Athletic NHL James Mirtle joins Leafs Lunch to chat about the Leafs' 4-3 loss to the Bruins on Saturday. Top o' the mornin' to ya! This week we turn several shades of green as we celebrate the emerald isle and St. Patrick's Day! We here in the good ol' US of A have completely bastardized this whole affair into a day of wearing ridiculous amounts of green, pretending to be of Irish descent, and getting extremely drunk while listening to U2, those single songs by The Cranberries and Thin Lizzy that everyone knows, and any host of Celtic-based punk rock (Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, etc…). Not on this episode!!! We are going to go deeper into true Irish rock n' punk n' metal that should be added to your St. Paddy's Day playlist and celebrated all year round! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we listen to some artist that throw a little traditional Irish into their mix and others that just simply rock! Here's to a long life and a merry one. A quick death and an easy one. A pretty girl and an honest one. A cold pint and another one!Songs this week include:Young Dubliners – “Follow Me Up To Carlow” from Breathe (1995)ONOFF – “Taximan” from Don't Take Our Word For It (2012)The Boomtown Rats – “Mary Of The 4th Form” from Best Of Boomtown Rats (1985) Whipping Boy – “Valentine 69” from Submarine (1992)Mama's Boys – “Straight Forward, No Looking Back” from Power & Passion (1985)The Murder Capital – “Feeling Fades” from Feeling Fades (single) (2019)Celtic Legacy – “Emerald Eye” from This Lie Of The Land (2014)Flogging Molly – “The Kilburn High Road” from Drunken Lullabys (2002)Fastway – “Rock On” from Waiting For The Roar (1986)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/inobscuria/og-shopCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
It's a long sordid history of corruption, evil and treason. Uranium One was the crux of many schemes. Remember, nukes are clean energy. The war lies, concocted stories, blatant treason, and deep state failure of everything. Visa, SWIFT, and the amazing flash ban on Russian everything. History has realists like Stephen F. Cohen. The view from 40k feet makes it all make sense. Is this the Dim's Hiroshima? Western blood gets spilled with senseless war mongering. Costs are too great for the EU or NATO. Nuland, the election planners and an atta boy attitude. This is Antifa like behavior. CHAZ in Kiev looks familiar. It's proud boys on steroids. Since 2010 this has been building. The brave Andrew Breitbart went around the gatekeepers. Be ready for anything, because they can't avoid the truth this time. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

JD, Blake and Ailish open with a discussion on Nick Ritchie being placed on waivers, why it hasn't worked out for him with the Leafs, what his future holds, how they view Kyle Dubas' offseason now, and who is the new Leafs whipping boy (3:40). Next, in honour of some terrible NFL teams' seasons coming to a close this weekend, the crew started up their “Hopeless Franchise Rankings” draft among the 4 major sports (30:20). To wrap, it's Ailish's A-List which includes Logan Paul's expensive (fake?) Pokemon investment (45:29).The views and opinions expressed in this podcast are those of the hosts and guests and do not necessarily reflect the position of Rogers Sports & Media or any affiliate.

It was the year that Soccer hooligans rioted in Lansdowne Road, Jack Charlton retired, and Ireland voted to allow divorce. 1995 was also the year Whipping Boy released their stunning second album Heartworm. Recorded between September and November 1994 in Windmill Lane Studios, it included tracks such as Twinkle, When We Were Young and We Don't Need Nobody Else. It's an album that is highly respected by many music fans. It's emotional; it's powerful; it's timeless. And it's about to be reissued on double vinyl and cd, featuring a number of b-sides and demos. Whipping Boy consisted of Ferghal McKee on Lead Vocals, Paul Page on Guitar, Myles McDonnell on Bass and Colm Hassett on Drums. Formed in Dublin in 1988, they initially went by the name of Lolita and the Whipping Boy before shortening their name when their female guitarist left the band. Throughout their career, the band released three albums on three different record labels. But it is Heartworm, released on Columbia records, that has cast the longest legacy. The whipping boy is a tale of adventure that's right up there with Treasure Island. The author, Sid Fleischman, wrote many great books for boys but this is one of his best, so I've graced it with a two part podcast series. It's a coming of age story, an adventure tale, a lesson in life, but historically accurate it is not as there is no proof that whipping boys ever existed. Apart from that, it's well worth the listen and you will grow to love all of the characters in this adventure classic. Silicon Valley oligarchs have plenty of reason to lose sleep these days, but the looming prospect of Nov. 1 has to be high on the list. That's the day that executives from Google, Facebook, and Twitter are scheduled to testify in back-to-back hearings before Senate and House committees investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.
