But these are people who have gone through struggles and hardships, and they need direct action from their community to help them get back on their feet. They need help, not hate. In this episode, we talk to Glen Dunzweiler, a filmmaker and producer. Glen had a story to tell, but he didn’t wait for someone else to do it for him. He went out and took action himself. He takes us behind the scenes of creating his books and documentary about the homeless. Jon Noll, ultra runner, joins us to talk about how after running for 51 hours and covering 212.5 miles he was the last person standing during the Quarantine Backyard Ultra back in July. If you are unfamiliar with the backyard ultra concept, you have to run 4.167 miles every hour until there is only one person standing (running). These two simple nouns represent much more than just two things. We have all experienced peaks and valleys (highs and lows) in life and that does not make us different. What makes us different is how we react to the challenges themselves. Are we going to choose to not fight? What is next for me if I can't seem to get back to where I was? These answers don't come easily but thankfully, God is always with us. Listening to this week's episode we see where, without much hope at all, God spoke to John and let him know that there was something greater in store for him. So great, that John survived an accident that seemed insurmountable. What is in store for you? Can you hear God now? The more we speak to Him and trust Him, the more we can lend our ears to His omniscient plans. How Has God Wired You? How has God wired you? This is a really interesting question that John brings up in the podcast. While thinking about his next steps in life, it was a mentor (also a believer) who chose to bring a different light to the subject, "Why not let God lead you into what is next for you based on how He wired you?". Have you ever asked yourself how God has wired you? Everyone is meant to do something very specific in our lives - God has planned it that way. Yet, if we do not take a step back and focus on how God wired us in the first place, we might miss our calling altogether. "The peaks are filled with no air, it is then that we realize the valleys have the fruit in them, and not the heights".   Among the many missions that came out of the Apollo Applications Program, one of the most amazing was the Venus Flyby mission. Imagine, using the same Apollo technology that brought us to the moon, for a long duration mission to fly by our nearest planetary neighbor, the planet Venus. Humans, traveling to another planet in our solar system. It was an ambitious plan. Unfortunately, in real life, funding for this mission never materialized. It wasn’t even close. Yes, there was some actual planning that went into a proposed mission, and some early plans were created. But no serious program was budgeted. Given the significant budget cuts after the moon landing, the Venus Flyby mission didn’t really have a chance. That was in the real world. But this is not the real world… This is…the “Venus Flyby” mission. IntroductionIn the last episode, we talked about the Apollo Applications Program, and the future use of Apollo technology beyond its use in landing on the moon. During the late 1960’s, one of the missions that was considered for the Apollo Applications Program was a Flyby mission of the planet Venus. As we discussed previously, due to lack of support from both the Johnson and the Nixon Administrations, the mission never really was taken seriously. But there was some actual planning that went into this proposed mission. In fact, you can check out Wikipedia and other online sources, and you’ll find information about what was proposed in the late 1960’s for this trip. A high level outline of a mission plan was created. A link to that proposal is included in the links above. But this is Belitopia. In our world, Johnson and Nixon did support the AAP program, and the Venus Flyby mission was funded. This episode describes a significant variation from the initial plans that were created in the 1960’s. Instead, it describes a trip that I believe is more inline with what would have actually occurred, if we were allowed to invest in and create such a mission. In our version of the mission, the one that occurred in the world of Belitopia, the mission was named Venus 1 and it sent two astronauts on a planned nearly seven month round trip on a flyby pass around the planet Venus. What follows is a fictional documentary about this flyby mission. The documentary takes place in the year 2040, 65 years after the mission took place. This documentary, titled “Our World in Space”, describes the Venus Flyby mission in greater detail, as a historical record of past events. While fiction, it’s based on much thought and consideration on what it would take to make such as trip possible. This documentary is about the voyage of the first humans to leave the Earth-Moon system and flyby another planet.
