Saya membahas buku Smartcuts karya Shane Snow.

Your knowledge is finite. Your curiosity is infinite. So why, oh why, do we usually rely more on our existing knowledge than our boundless curiosity? A lot of people read my book, or listen to my show, or hear me speak, and they want a tactic. There's nothing wrong with tactics. I love efficiency hacks. But I'm telling you: you are missing the point if you don't understand that wealth begins with how you think.” [30:22] “The solutions that we find to our weaknesses become our greatest strengths.” [48:52] “When we play the long-term game, we have to understand that every decision we make has a consequence. Going back to the time value of money, a dollar today is worth way more than a dollar. A dollar loss today is worth way more than just a dollar.” [54:34] “I hated life insurance when I first started. And then when I truly understood it, I realized it's not the what; it's the how people are using it. It's how people are teaching it. And it can be an amazing foundational asset to store your capital and use it throughout your life.” About Caleb Caleb Guilliams is a financial prodigy who started his career at the age of 19. He founded Better Wealth Solutions, a company committed to showing people how to be more efficient and reach their highest potential through wealth. One on One interview with Shane Snow about his latest work, secrets, and details on his most famous books: The Storytelling Edge: How to Transform Your Business, Stop Screaming Into the Void, and Make People Love You, Dream Teams: Working Together Without Falling Apart, and Smartcuts: How Hackers, Innovators, and Icons Accelerate Success.
In our last +1, we spent some time with Tim Ferriss, setting some unusually large goals and thinking about the fact that those jumbo goals can often be, paradoxically, easier to reach than the “realistic” goals that everyone else is going after. Of course, as we dream big, we’d be wise to rub that audacious goal up against reality WOOP style. But… FIRST (!!!) we need to start with the wave-the-wand Wish of what you’d REALLY like to create. Too many people start with the “Obstacles” and, as a result, never give themselves the permission to really dream about what they’d like. So… Today I want to chat about another way to think about this idea. Let’s dig up our PhilosophersNote on Smartcuts by Shane Snow. Turn to page six, please. Final Big Idea of that Note. Here’s how Shane puts it: “The ‘high hanging fruit’ approach, the big swing, is more technically challenging than going after low-hanging fruit, but the diminished number of competitors in the upper branches (not to mention the necessary expertise of those that make it that high) provides fuel for 10x Thinking, and brings out our potential. ... Big causes attract big believers, big investors, big capital, big-name advisors, and big talent. They force us to rethink convention and hack the ladder of success. To engage with masters and to leverage waves and platforms and superconnectors. To swing and to simplify, to quickly turn failure into feedback. To become not just bigger, but truly better. And they remind us, once again, that together we can achieve the implausible.” Shane shares that wisdom on 10X Thinking in a chapter featuring Elon Musk and his commitment to colonize Mars. (!) Note: Every time I think about Musk’s commitment to COLONIZING MARS I laugh. ← THAT is some epic thinking. So… What’s your big goal? What’s a 10X version of it? Remember that, although technically more difficult, 10X goals are often, paradoxically, easier to accomplish than 10% goals. Once you stretch yourself to 10X thinking you might just—like Elon Musk’s rockets—leave the gravitational pull of more pedestrian ideas and enter rarefied air with fewer “competitors” and more opportunities to attract big support. That’s Today’s +1. What’s YOUR high-hanging fruit? And… What’s your next domino? And… What can you do TODAY to make some progress? Get on that. Give us all you got. TODAY. (Pretty please.) (P.S. Don’t forget the fundies. You’re going to need all the Energy and antifragile confidence and emotional stamina you can get as you go for it.)

Greetings, SuperFriends! Today's guest is an award-winning journalist, celebrated entrepreneur, and the bestselling author of a book called Smartcuts, of an upcoming book (by the time you hear it, a new book) called Dream Teams, and the co-author of The Storytelling Edge. He is also the co-founder of the content technology company Contently, and you've probably seen his work in Fast Company, Wired, The New Yorker, and dozens more top publications. His name, for those of you who are now wondering, is Shane Snow. In this wide-ranging conversation, we talk about lateral thinking, what it is and how you can utilize it. We also talk about teams, and how you can work better in them. We all work with other people (at least occasionally), and so we talked, Shane and I, about how you can leverage those connections to get more out of them, rather than being distracted and held back by the people you work with. That is a very important topic for everyone, and a very interesting topic for me particularly at this moment at the time of recording, as we are as always trying to grow and scale our business for you folks. And, to top these off, we talked about productivity hacks, life-hacks and health hacks that help Shane do so much with the same 24 hours that the rest of us have. I really enjoyed this conversation. You folks will notice that, lately, we've been doing slightly shorter conversations, and that is because I want you folks to spend less time with your digital devices, and more time in deep thought. Let me know if you enjoy that, or if you want us to go back to the slightly longer format. -Jonathan Levi P.S. Do you dream of starting your own business on the internet to achieve financial freedom, empower tens of thousands of people, and one day…one day… find yourself in the company of other great entrepreneurs and thought leaders like Ray Kurzweil, Peter Diamandis, Joe Polish, Dean Graziosi, Russell Brunson, and more? Well… What if that day was today?

#134: We often peek inside the world of business to look for lessons about how to simplify, optimize and innovate. But what can we learn when we examine world-class people who are hacking the system in any field -- including sports, politics and music? What can we learn when we're radically curious about everything? And how can we apply this knowledge to helping us lead more deliberate, curated lives? Today, we tap Shane Snow's brain for answers. Shane Snow is a co-founder of Contently, a company that matches freelancers with publishers. But we're not going to talk about that today. We're going to explore bigger themes. Because Shane isn't just a tech entrepreneur. He's also an award-winning journalist, which is another way of saying that he's an inquisitive person who lives in the world of storytelling and big ideas. His first book, SmartCuts, explores how people avoid climbing the normative career ladder. It showcases people across a variety of industries who hack the ladder, often by making unconventional lateral moves. And that is exactly the kind of thinking that appeals to anyone building financial independence, and trying to design a meaningful, autonomous and unconventional living. His latest book, Dream Teams, explores what it takes for a group of people to come together to create something amazing. How can the whole be greater than the sum of its parts. And he looks across industries, at everything from hockey teams to businesses and beyond, to find the universal threads inside these stories. A few accolades before we begin: GQ Magazine described Shane's work as "insanely addicting," and The New York Times refers to Shane as a "wunderkind." (I had to Google that term -- apparently, it refers to someone who achieves great success at a young age.) He has also, somehow, appeared on Gossip Girl and beat Super Mario 3. Let's find out what Shane has to say about innovation, curiosity, teamwork, and hacking the system. Oh yes, and kangaroos. Shane Snow is author of “Dream Teams: Working Together Without Falling Apart” and the bestseller, “Smartcuts.” Shane is also an award-winning journalist, celebrated entrepreneur, and co-founder of Contently. When thinking about great teams we often think of just the best players. Shane uses the success of the Soviet Union’s 1980’s hockey team as an example and sheds light on what made them so uniquely successful. It was not the individuals that defined the success of the team, it was the collective team as a whole. Their team wasn’t about having a guy that could score a lot of points. Each player was dedicated to doing whatever they needed to do to get the hockey puck in the goal. That 1980’s Soviet hockey team also fostered a diverse set of minds. Historically we reduce classifications to what we can see. Having a diverse team doesn’t just mean having people of a different race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. If you want a group to be smarter than its smartest member, you need a team of people who all think differently. This is where cognitive diversity is important – the best ideas often come from a round-table of minds debating. However, it can be easy to go too far when building a diverse team and end up with a group of people trying to destroy each other rather than cultivating innovative ideas. What is the leading cause of failure in business and relationships? Communication. Combining various perspectives from people are what often adds up to one great new innovation. Looking at new angles is the only way to break new ground. Unfortunately, a lot of what we think is crazy gets shut out. Those crazy ideas are what need to be heard the most.

Shane Snow and I talk about accelerating business growth and use examples from his recent book Smartcuts. In this episode we talk about how he raised $11M in funding for his business Contently. Shane explains why it was easier to raise $11M in funding than raising $100k for his startup. We also talk about how you can 10X your business growth by applying lateral thinking. We take a listener question about scaling a service based business. He does a case study of how he would grow their business and applies examples of how he grew Contently. Episode edited by the great J Scott Donnell Shane Snow Bio From Amazon.com Entrepreneur and journalist Shane Snow (Wired, Fast Company, The New Yorker, and cofounder of Contently) analyzes the lives of people and companies that do incredible things in implausibly short time. How do some startups go from zero to billions in mere months? How did Alexander the Great, YouTube tycoon Michelle Phan, and Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon climb to the top in less time than it takes most of us to get a promotion? What do high-growth businesses, world-class heart surgeons, and underdog marketers do in common to beat the norm? One way or another, they do it like computer hackers. They employ what psychologists call "lateral thinking" to rethink convention and break "rules" that aren't rules. In Smartcuts, Snow shatters common wisdom about success, revealing how conventions like "paying dues" prevent progress, why kids shouldn't learn times tables, and how, paradoxically, it's easier to build a huge business than a small one. From SpaceX to The Cuban Revolution, from Ferrari to Skrillex, Smartcuts is a narrative adventure that busts old myths about success and shows how innovators and icons do the incredible by working smarter--and how perhaps the rest of us can, too.

A raw discussion between Matt & Josh that started as a call about the book Smartcuts by Shane Snow. Learn about the things we believe can help shortcut your success in business and why we believe most common business advice is complete BS.

Susan Baroncini-Moe is this week's guest. She spends her days as an Entrepreneur and Executive coach. Working at writing and improving herself. She paid her way through graduate school by teaching web-design and converting printed materials and helping companies take their printed material and begin selling it as marketable materials online. Inspiration: The work Susan was doing early in her life was extremely keyboard intensive. However it was starting to affect the health of her wrists. The doctors told her either change the career or it would be surgery. So she hung up the keyboard and became one of the first successful coaches out there. Rather quickly she was able to start attracting clients that aligned best with her earlier experience with web-design and web-presence. Challenge: Businesses tend to grow slower than you might want. Susan found that almost right away and along with that the recession was starting right when she was getting rolling. Susan felt that one of the biggest hurdles was her own personal 'brain junk'. Things like self-doubt and second guessing herself were some of the biggest challenges. She also fights against her ADHD, which only seems to be getting worse. Her Assistant helps keep her on task and nailed down so that she can work through any challenge that comes up. Passion: Susan is most passionate about her clients and working in the 'brain junk' space. She spends a good amount of time quantifying and analyzing the data in the digital market space so that she can make real improvements Vision Susan doesn't think that she needs to dominate the world. it would be nice, but not what she is really looking for. She likes the idea of live events, but is currently shying away. Ultimately her goal is to continue to build the brand and grow her business. She wants to keep investing in herself and her business and her team. Advice: "Do what you say you are going to do, when you say you are going to do it." - Larry Winget "Or faster, or better!" is Susan's little addition to that. It's important that people get the results they are looking for, simply by doing exactly that. Personal Growth With every year that goes by Susan feels more and more humble, but even more confident. she has come to know that the business isn't just for her, but to help create the life that can be possible. Gadgets & Tools Susan has a love/hate relationship going on with technology. "[It's] become so ingrained in our lives that we are loosing ourselves in the gadgets." That being said, Susan's phone is attached to her at all times and she would be lost without her MacBook Pro. They are the ultimate tools that she cant live without. Looking Back: Susan says simply, "Hang in there, don't worry and honestly when success comes it doesn't mean you don't have to be frugal!" Remember to get your finances managed and don't squander your resources. books blogs podcasts Mike Michalowicz - Profit First a fantastic book on accounting. Not only is it captivating, it's a very unique approach and it's a really great resource. Bob Burg - The Go-Giver Series Anything by Larry Winget Grow A Pair is an excellent choice. and of course Susan's own book - Business in Blue Jeans Shane Snow has a great book called Smartcuts that is simply a phenomenal book. Entrepreneur and journalist Shane Snow (Wired, Fast Company, The New Yorker, and cofounder of Contently)discusses his new Harper Business title, Smartcuts, with @HarperAudio_US Producer Erin Wicks. This episode also includes an excerpt from the audio edition performed by the author. ABOUT SMARTCUTS Entrepreneur and journalist Shane Snow (Wired, Fast Company, The New Yorker, and cofounder of Contently) analyzes the lives of people and companies that do incredible things in implausibly short time. They employ what psychologists call "lateral thinking: to rethink convention and break "rules" that aren't rules. These are not shortcuts, which produce often dubious short-term gains, but ethical "smartcuts" that eliminate unnecessary effort and yield sustainable momentum. In Smartcuts, Snow shatters common wisdom about success, revealing how conventions like "paying dues" prevent progress, why kids shouldn't learn times tables, and how, paradoxically, it's easier to build a huge business than a small one. From SpaceX to The Cuban Revolution, from Ferrari to Skrillex, Smartcuts is a narrative adventure that busts old myths about success and shows how innovators and icons do the incredible by working smarter—and how perhaps the rest of us can, too.
In this episode, entrepreneur, journalist, and author Shane Snow stops by to discuss his body of work, how his company was born, and what he learned while writing Smartcuts. The book analyzes the lives of people and companies that do incredible things in implausibly short time. Shane and I cover why hard copy books are better than e-readers, what we want to add to our bucket lists, and the virtues of being an independent thinker. It was awesome.
