14 TRUE SCARY NAVY FIGHTER PILOT HORROR STORIES Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Ryan joins us from his home in New Hampshire. Growing up as an avid reader and athlete, Ryan developed a passion for wanting to fly jets for the Navy. And that is precisely the world he created for himself. For several years he trained on the US East Cost and served overseas - operating from US aircraft carriers. For several years, he and his pilot colleagues were seeing unidentified objects in the air and on their radars. In this conversation, he also describes to us the shapes of these flying objects and their trajectories and maneuvers through the sky. After wondering why no action was being taken to formally address these phenomenon by his ultimate superiors, Ryan went public. He became the first active duty Navy pilot to speak out on these experiences. Today, he also serves as the first Chair of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Integration and Outreach Committee (UAPIOC), representing more than 30,000 members of the aerospace industry. The goal of UAPIOC is to serve as a neutral, scientifically-focused group enabling safer commercial and military air and space operations. Through his podcast Merged, his mission is to create a platform for other pilots to share their experiences and to explore what may be the truth behind what is sharing the skies with our planes. (Part 1): Kegan 'SMurF' Gill has been through things that would kill most people. As a US Navy F/A-18 Hornet Fighter Pilot, Kegan was forced to eject near the speed of sound (695 miles per hour) as his plane went down during a training exercise over the frigid Atlantic Ocean. During the ejection, Kegan sustained catastrophic injuries that literally ripped his limbs apart along with a severe traumatic brain injury. Through sheer will he fought back to the cockpit only to suffer another near mishap in the Hornetas a result of delayed PTSD. After being turned over to the care of the VA, SMurF's real horror began...
Episode 13! Not 12!Jacob spent 10 years in the Navy, with most of his flying with the F/A-18. He did a handful of combat deployments on carrier strike groups and a few tours instructing new Naval Aviators. He talks about what the day-to-day combat deployment mission looks like from the perspective of a fighter pilot, the underwhelming feeling of breaking the speed of sound, and transitioning to an airline pilot. He also gives advice to those thinking about becoming a pilot some advice on how to do that. And as always we talk about mindset, relationships with ourself and others, and more.Growing up I was the middle child between two sisters. But since meeting him I've had a brother too. Since marrying my sister yeeears ago, we've spent a lot of time together doing all kinds of stuff. Four wheeling in the mountains of Tennessee, going on family trips to Spain and Portugal, flying with him in a small Cessna (it didn't last long, I almost lost my lunch and wanted to go back on Earth). He's a great human. We recorded this episode in his garage, which for now he has converted into a workshop for building a kit plane.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cannondispatch/support This is a public episode. Captain Tammie Jo Shults is an American commercial airline captain, author, inspirational speaker, and naval aviator. Known for being one of the first female fighter pilots to serve in the United States Navy, active-duty Captain Shults became a pilot for Southwest Airlines. On April 17, 2018, as captain of Southwest Airlines Flight 1380, she safely landed a Boeing 737-700 after the aircraft suffered an uncontained engine failure with debris causing rapid decompression of the plane. She saved 148 lives that day. In Captain Shults' memoir “Nerves of Steel,' she shares her story from growing up as the daughter of a humble rancher to breaking gender barriers and receiving wings of gold to managing compound emergencies in landing Southwest Flight 1380 and revealing insight into true heroism. Captain Shults holds a split degree in PreMed and Agribusiness from MidAmerica Nazarene and is a Women In Aviation Advisory Board member working to empower women, especially young women, worldwide and at home. Today, we discuss Tammie Jo's “Nerves of Steel,” her experiences in the Navy, being one of the first women to fly an FA-18 Hornet and the flight in 2018 that changed her life.

Becoming Your Best | The Principles of Highly Successful Leaders
The definition of success varies from person to person; for some, it means to be wealthy, for others to be loved, impact lots of people, or change people's lives. But what happens when everyone but us thinks we are successful? It might look fantastic from the outside, and still, we'd feel miserable. When success is not intimately linked with purpose, it feels empty. John Ramstead's company was doing great; everybody would pat his shoulder and congratulate him for his success, but he couldn't shake this smoldering discontent. He then realized he was living under the "tyranny of they." John was doing everything "they" considered fantastic, valuable, and he was showing up the way "they" believed he should. John knew he needed to make a significant change in his life, and then he got in an accident that almost took his life. Today's guest, John Ramstead, is a former Navy Fighter Pilot, Int'l Speaker and Podcast Host, Leadership Coach, and Author of On Purpose with Purpose. He is passionate about empowering leaders and their teams to reawaken the joy, vitality, and clarity eroded in their way to success. In this episode, John shares his inspiring story of profound change, driven by his unstoppable urge to become the best version of himself. We talk about recovering from adversity, inspiring others, and being a giver before asking for anything. We explore the power of mentoring, being a servant leader, how creating habits can change the course of our lives, and much more. He is currently a leadership coach, author, and host of the Eternal Leadership Podcast. He also has a new book called On Purpose With Purpose: Discovering How to Live Your Best Life. He shares his unique perspective and experience to help leaders unlock who they are at their core. Some of the best books are life books, and this is one of them. John has an amazing life story. Being a fighter pilot required a massive amount of learning. Each mission had hours of preparation and planning and then a review and feedback afterward. He had to learn as if everyone's life depended on it. This experience changed his perspective on business. He would create a game plan before every sales meeting. In 2011, he had a nearly fatal horseback riding accident, leading to traumatic brain injury, 25 surgeries, and two years of hospital care. He puts these life lessons in his book and shares many of them with us today. We get to learn about OODA or observe, orient, decide, and act. We discuss the fighter pilot's perspective on vision. John shares his long-term vision to help and inspire people. He also shares his story from fighter pilot to entrepreneur and how he suffered his near-fatal accident. He shares his quest to find the best version of himself and discover who he really is. We talk about creating in collaboration and more in this inspirational episode. This episode we travel to Spring Grove, Minnesota to visit a former Navy fighter pilot turned farmer and distiller. It’s not often you meet an organic farmer with a story as interesting as Christian Myrah’s. He went from flying fighter jets for the US Navy to driving tractors in small town Minnesota. And for the last five years or so, he’s been turning his farm produce into whiskey. Award winning at that. “Tractor’s don’t go as fast as F-18s but the lifestyle is pretty good,”The distillery is two miles away from where Christian grows the organic grains. It’s also down the road from the oldest water powered mill in Minnesota, Schech Mill, which still uses the original stones imported from France. The mill has been in operation since 1876 and for the last several years has been grinding Christian’s grains. RockFilter Distillery featured whiskey in RackHouse Whiskey Clubs box: - Experimental Test Acre Series- Rail Splitter Whiskey (named after Christians great grandfather who split 10,000 fence posts for a penny each...more on that in the podcast)Join RackHouse Whiskey Club at www.rackhousewhiskeyclub.comSupport the show (http://www.RackHouseWhiskeyClub.com)

Captain Gerald ‘Jerry’ Coffee (US Navy Retired) is a true American hero and important part of history. He was a Navy Fighter Pilot during Vietnam, and it was his 7 years as a POW in one of the most famous North Vietnamese prisons (Hanoi Hilton) that he is most famous for. But what few know, is that Capt. Coffee was the pilot who was flying and recording video over Cuba when Russian ballistic missiles, capable of reaching the United States and Canada, were discovered in 1962. These images and video were presented to President John F. Kennedy as proof that the Russians were staging ICBM’s in Cuba as a threat to the United States. But it is what happened on February 3, 1966 that would make Capt. Coffee a hero. After taking off from the US Navy carrier, the USS Kittyhawk in the Gulf of Tonkin, his RA-5C Vigilante plane was shot down. He, along with his co-pilot, Lt. Robert Hanson were immediately captured by the North Vietnamese and taken to Hanoi. Capt. Coffee found himself a prisoner of war for 7 years in what is considered one of the most dangerous and deadly prisons in the world. During his time in captivity, Capt. Coffee developed a communication system known as tap-code where he and the other prisoners could communicate using a series of taps on their cell walls. Every night, Jerry would tap the letters ‘G.B.’ (God Bless) or ‘G.B.A’ (God Bless America) for all the other prisoners to hear. Capt. Coffee was released on February 12, 1973 (7 years and 9 days after his capture). He was awarded numerous medals, including the distinguished Purple Heart (he actually received two Purple Hearts) for his service. He also authored a book, ‘Beyond Survival’ in which he documents his time in captivity. We believe his story and this book are the answers to helping the world heal today. Jerry is now 86 and has battled many health issues from his time as a POW, and we are honored to have him and his wife Susan tell his incredible story!
Biff talks about the discipline it takes to be a fighter pilot and some of his experiences as a pilot for the U.S. Navy.
When you think of basketball and Murdo, South Dakota , Harold Thune has to be one of the first things that comes to mind. Growing up, he was one, if not the best basketball player in the state. Harold Thune recently passed away at the age of 100, but his legacy as a player, a Navy Fighter Pilot, and then later a basketball coach, will live on in history forever.
Commander Guy Snodgrass is a famed TOPGUN pilot, instructor, and former Director of Communications & Chief Speechwriter to former Secretary of Defense James Mattis. Commander Snodgrass is celebrated as one of the most skilled fighter pilots in the U.S. Navy, directing combat jets over some of the most dangerous war zones in the world -- and he did it all using the lessons he learned at the Navy's Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN) that he reveals for the first time in his highly anticipated new book TOPGUN'S TOP 10: LEADERSHIP LESSONS FROM THE COCKPIT out September 15th. As a regular fixture on TV (CNN, Fox News, BBC World News), Snodgrass' practical, and direct account of real TOPGUN experience will inspire a new generation of leaders, according to one review. "Commander Snodgrass distills the most important lessons he learned and taught over the course of his career into a taut, engaging book for readers of all ages and experience levels," according to the reviewer. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/john-aidan-byrne0/support
The first time we hung out, Wingnut showed me footage of bombs he’d dropped on an ISIS mortar team that was shelling fleeing women and children from a village. Obviously, he’s a U.S. Navy fighter pilot. But more than that, he’s one of the sweetest, most thoughtful guys I’ve met. And I’ve always wanted to know, what is it like being a fighter pilot? The training. Landing on a carrier for the first time. What’s it like to break the sound barrier? What’s it like to drop bombs on human beings? So we got together and I asked him my questions. Like many in the military, he’s also a great storyteller. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
Biff is a Navy Fighter Pilot for the US Navy. Biff talks about some of the different fighters jets like the F18 or the F35. We are thankful for Biff's service and for him taking the time to share some of his experiences as a pilot for the US Navy.

Navigating Peaks and Valleys In this week's episode of The Follower of One Podcast - Mike talks with John Ramstead. John is a Leadership coach, former Navy Fighter Pilot, International Podcast Host, and Author. For the past 8 years, John has been the CEO of Beyond Influence - a company designed for CEOs, Entrepreneurs, and teams to reach their goals rapidly. What does the Kingdom of God really look like? What is my next step after a setback? Learning to navigate peaks and valleys, find out on today's podcast! Episode Details: 1:15 - Meet John Ramstead 4:10 - John's story - How John got here 8:50 - The Accident 11:50 - God spoke to John 17:55 - Influence on culture 22:00 - How to build a relationship with God 27:00 - We take God's Kingdom with us 35:50 - How to get in touch with John Peaks and Valleys Peaks and Valleys, used almost synonymously in metaphors. These two simple nouns represent much more than just two things. We have all experienced peaks and valleys (highs and lows) in life and that does not make us different. What makes us different is how we react to the challenges themselves. Are we going to choose to not fight? What is next for me if I can't seem to get back to where I was? These answers don't come easily but thankfully, God is always with us. Listening to this week's episode we see where, without much hope at all, God spoke to John and let him know that there was something greater in store for him. So great, that John survived an accident that seemed insurmountable. What is in store for you? Can you hear God now? The more we speak to Him and trust Him, the more we can lend our ears to His omniscient plans. How Has God Wired You? How has God wired you? This is a really interesting question that John brings up in the podcast. While thinking about his next steps in life, it was a mentor (also a believer) who chose to bring a different light to the subject, "Why not let God lead you into what is next for you based on how He wired you?". Have you ever asked yourself how God has wired you? Everyone is meant to do something very specific in our lives - God has planned it that way. Yet, if we do not take a step back and focus on how God wired us in the first place, we might miss our calling altogether. "The peaks are filled with no air, it is then that we realize the valleys have the fruit in them, and not the heights". From Sea Level to C Level chronicles experiences seen through the eyes of former Navy fighter pilot, E. Matthew Buckley, call sign Whiz. Link to VideoPodcast: https://www.facebook.com/TalkGoldenToMePodcast/videos/2411945925798675/The book is also written in the words of a man who turned his naval experience into a hugely successful career in corporate America. Drawing upon the Navy's unparalleled approach to planning, execution, strategy, and leadership, Whiz has created a unique set of tools men and women in any profession can use to drive their careers to new heights. Unlike other military personnel who have tried to tie the military and business worlds together, Whiz has "been there, done that," and has done so with extraordinary success in both arenas. As one of the Street's youngest and hottest executives, he is the authority on the topic of execution and leadership.During 15 years as a Navy fighter pilot, he enjoyed nothing more than pushing the throttles forward to Max Afterburner with the engines of my F/A-18 Hornet, catapulting off an aircraft carrier (0 to 200 mph in 1.5 seconds) and flying in challenging and hostile environments around the world. These days – as a CEO, Entrepreneur, Trader, and Leadership Coach – He no longer driving my F/A-18. But gets that same feeling of power and exhilaration when he starts the engines of an under-performing company, rev up the employees and executive team, and watch them blow away the competition.People often ask me, “how did you catapult from the cockpit of an F/A -18 to the CEO corner office of a $2.5B Wall Street firm?”Basically I applied everything as a Naval Aviator – at supersonic speeds and combat sorties over Iraq – and as a Naval Officer leading hundreds of sailors and Marines and applied my Top Gun experiences to the challenge of turning around failing or stagnating businesses and starting successful new ones.I am passionately interested in the art and science of executive leadership, strategic planning and – most important – Execution.I've also had some exceptionally great business mentors who showed me how companies succeed (and how they fail). And I'm forever grateful to the Navy and my mentors for all of these challenges, opportunities, and rewards.Specialties: • Leadership Coaching: Exceptionally good at training Fortune 500 CEOs to make great decisions under extreme stress – and to manage and master crises as fast as a fighter pilot.• Startups: Created three successful businesses, starting from scratch, turning one into $25M in one year.• Turnarounds: As Management Consultant, quickly analyzed underperforming operations for numerous Fortune 500 clients.• Transformed the business culture of PEAK6 Investments, and a played key role in its explosive growth.
