Whether creating content on a blog, YouTube, or podcast, sending people to an email list enables you to promote to them continuously. By doing so, you insulate your business in case outside forces cause unexpected changes, such as algorithm updates or changes in policies. Chris sees each traffic source as an opportunity to bring interested people into his world, and he encourages his viewers and readers to join his email list regularly.Chris believes that while social media channels like YouTube and podcasts are great for promoting your brand, it is essential to have your own website or blog to insulate your business against external forces. By doing so, you can capture people's contact information, like email addresses or phone numbers, to continue to promote to them over time. Is it wise for you to invest in a 529 plan? In my opinion, you should invest in a life insurance policy instead. I will back up my view with facts in this episode. 529 plans are meant for college savings only and are invested in the stock market. The funds are based on the age of the child, and you do not control the money. One of the most significant shortcomings with 529 plans is that you do not have control over your money and if your child ends up not using the money, you risk getting penalized and taxed for you to access the money and taxed. So it became Chris’s sole purpose and responsibility to provide for them to the best of my ability. H did not want to take on another job, but his current one was not going to be able to cover everything they needed. After trying a few passive income opportunities online that didn’t work he started blogging and within about 18 months, was earning 5 figures a month. He was not only able to support his family but he was able to quit his day job to also be at home full time with my family.    What I love about Chris is that his story is so relatable. This season of episodes seems to reflect the season of life we are all experiencing right now. There is an undertone of seizing opportunities. Dr. Lyons, the late founder of Alltech, the company I worked for right out of college, used to always tell us to look for the opportunity in a crisis. He built an empire of natural animal supplements, multiple beer lines, liquor brands, coffee, and so much more. He never wasted moments moaning and groaning - he didn’t have time for it. He was always off to the next project. It kind of made me think about the quote “You can’t make people happy that don’t want to be.” You see, if you don’t want to be successful when a crisis arises in life, you definitely don’t have to be. If you don’t want to look for the opportunity and just keep operating the way you always have, you do you! What I learned from Dr. Lyons was you always have to be on our toes in business. You are always reading the room, anticipating what’s next. He did that time and time again. It was exhausting to think about how hard that man’s brain worked because we were all moving a mile a minute. I don’t always think it has to be something huge that we are looking to take on. For example, I took the momentary calmness of quarantine to invest in myself and take a deep dive course on Facebook Ads. This was a full immersion into how to work with clients and double and triple their revenue using ads. It perfectly aligns with the digital marketing work I am doing with clients so I am glad I took that chance. I have already had the chance to work with clients and they are thrilled with the results. You will find the guests I spoke with in Season 8 are very similar, they looked around, and said: “why not me?” We can learn from these leaders and how they looked for the opportunity in a crisis, raised their hands, and which allowed them to become who they are today. Libbie Summers knew brands needed help telling their story, so she raised her hand. Kim Woods saw first-hand in corporate America that leaders needed help tapping into their true potential, so she raised her hand. Christie Kerner, couldn’t find a mascara she liked, so she raised her hand. Chris Myles wanted to share with the world how to be an online entrepreneur, so he raised his hand. Diana Olynick never wanted a female to struggle in life and business like she once did, so she raised her hand.
