Here at The Loudini Rock & Roll Circus podcast we love horror films and we love great rock and metal. Put the two together and it you  have two great tastes that taste great together. For this years Halloween "Spook-tacular" we will take you on a haunted tour of some of our favorite horror sound tracks that feature great rock and metal bands   What we did this week:   Lily: Kennywood, Disney on ICe,   Loudini: Azrael, Snakes on a plane Retrospective (Minty), Joe Brown on Ike & Tina (Art of Dialogue), Bands shooting themselves in the foot with YouTube (Rock Feed), The early days of MTV (polyphonic), Japanese words that Americans don't understand (Mrs Eats), Adams Family Retrospective (Minty), Joe Rogan OMG!, R.I.P. Phil Lesh & Teri Gar, A.I. and Loudini   1. Trick or Treat (1986) Synopsis: Eddie Weinbauer, a high school outcast and heavy metal fan, discovers that his favorite rock star, Sammi Curr, has died in a mysterious fire. When he plays one of Curr's unreleased albums backward, he unwittingly resurrects the rocker as a supernatural force seeking revenge. Soundtrack: The soundtrack features Fastway, a British rock band that composed most of the music for the film, giving it an authentic 80s heavy metal vibe. Background: This cult classic explores themes of rebellion and the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s, with cameo appearances by rock icons Ozzy Osbourne (playing a conservative talk show host) and Gene Simmons. 2. Queen of the Damned (2002) Synopsis: Based on Anne Rice's novel, this film follows vampire Lestat, who awakens from slumber to become a rock star, attracting the attention of other vampires and the ancient Queen Akasha, who wishes to rule alongside him. Soundtrack: Korn's Jonathan Davis worked with composer Richard Gibbs to produce tracks, with contributions from bands like Disturbed, Deftones, and Marilyn Manson. Background: The soundtrack was a defining feature, creating a unique, moody soundscape that reflects the gothic and seductive qualities of Rice's vampire world. 3. The Crow (1994) Synopsis: Eric Draven, a musician, returns from the grave to avenge his and his fiancée's murder on the night before Halloween. Guided by a mystical crow, he confronts the killers in a stylized, gritty urban landscape. Soundtrack: The dark and atmospheric soundtrack includes Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Rage Against the Machine, and Stone Temple Pilots. Background: The Crow became iconic, partially due to its haunting soundtrack, and remains influential for its combination of rock music with the film's themes of love, vengeance, and loss. 4. Bride of Chucky (1998) Synopsis: Killer doll Chucky is resurrected by his former lover, Tiffany. After a ritual goes awry, she's trapped in a doll's body as well. Together, the murderous dolls embark on a chaotic journey to find new bodies. Soundtrack: The edgy soundtrack features Rob Zombie, Slayer, Judas Priest, and Type O Negative. Background: Known for its dark humor, Bride of Chucky refreshed the Child's Play series, and its soundtrack added a gritty, punk-rock feel to the horror-comedy. 5. Return of the Living Dead (1985) Synopsis: When a chemical leaks at a medical supply warehouse, it causes the dead to rise and wreak havoc in a nearby town. A group of punk teens finds themselves at the center of the chaos. Soundtrack: The punk-driven soundtrack includes The Cramps, T.S.O.L., and 45 Grave. Background: Blending punk culture with zombie horror, this film is notable for its humor, gore, and punk soundtrack, which complements its rebellious, chaotic spirit. 6. Demon Knight (1995) Synopsis: A mysterious drifter named Brayker seeks refuge in a rundown hotel while being pursued by a demonic entity called The Collector, who wants a relic Brayker holds. Soundtrack: The soundtrack includes Pantera, Megadeth, and Ministry. Background: Part of the "Tales from the Crypt" film series, this movie's soundtrack and horror-action elements captured a blend of supernatural horror with hard-hitting rock. 7. Freddy vs. Jason (2003) Synopsis: Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, two iconic killers from horror franchises, come face-to-face in a battle, with teens caught in the crossfire. Soundtrack: The soundtrack features Ill Nino, Slipknot, Sepultura, and Spineshank. Background: Featuring a high-energy soundtrack, this crossover slasher appealed to metal fans and is known for its adrenaline-filled music. 8. House of 1000 Corpses (2003) Synopsis: Two couples on a road trip through rural America stumble upon a bizarre museum run by a man named Captain Spaulding. Their curiosity leads them into the lair of the Firefly family, where terror and madness unfold. Soundtrack: The soundtrack, curated by director Rob Zombie, includes songs by Zombie himself along with Buck Owens and The Ramones, adding a gritty, Southern rock vibe. Background: Rob Zombie's directorial debut is heavily influenced by grindhouse films and 1970s horror. The music complements its chaotic and disturbing tone, with Zombie's own tracks amplifying the twisted atmosphere. 9. Resident Evil (2002) Synopsis: Alice, an amnesiac security operative, teams up with a group of commandos to investigate a deadly virus outbreak in a high-tech facility known as The Hive. Their mission pits them against reanimated corpses and mutated creatures. Soundtrack: The soundtrack features Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and Coal Chamber, creating an industrial, high-energy backdrop for the action-horror elements. Background: Known for its intense action sequences and blend of horror with sci-fi, the soundtrack's industrial metal sound contributes to the futuristic, menacing feel of the film. 10. Dracula 2000 (2000) Synopsis: In this modern adaptation, Dracula is accidentally revived in New Orleans, where he targets the daughter of the man who once tried to contain him. The story intertwines classic vampire lore with contemporary themes. Soundtrack: Featuring bands like Pantera, Slayer, System of a Down, and Linkin Park, the soundtrack is heavy with rock and metal tracks. Background: This retelling of the Dracula story embraces a darker, edgier approach, with a soundtrack that enhances its themes of immortality and rebellion against tradition.   New & Notable:   Loudini: Trope; Planes Lily: Blacklist Union; Hey Mr. Superstar

This week on America's Podcast, we've got a lineup so heavy it might just be considered a gym day! Join us as we tackle the burning question: should we be bowing down at the altar of Metal Church or kicking back to watch football on Sundays? Spoiler alert: our guests Greg Naugle and Travis Perrotta are here to argue that neither activity should include wearing pants! We titled this episode “The Human Factor” because let's face it: we're all just humans trying to figure out if our Sundays should be filled with righteous riffs or touchdown celebrations. Can you have a mosh pit in front of the TV? And if you can, will someone please tell the neighbors? No spoilers on the tracks of the week—after all, we don't want to ruin the surprise of Marc picking “Fire And Rain” by Badlands, which is basically the soundtrack for those days you remember that you left the oven on…again. Mooger's choice, “Impact Is Imminent” by Exodus, sounds like the perfect anthem for your procrastination and potential future life choices. Meanwhile, Greg's picking “Another Day” by Fastway—not to be confused with “Another Day Without Coffee,” which is honestly just a crime. Travis is cruising down memory lane with “Starcarr Lane” by Alcatrazz, which probably has more nostalgia than your old high school yearbook! And Jerry wraps things up with “Nobody's Fault” by Testament, which should be the theme music for every time someone tries to blame you for something you clearly didn't do. So grab your air guitars, prepare your best headbangs, and remember: until next week, let the music do the talking and be as nice as a metalhead can be—meaning no heavy objects should be thrown, unless it's a perfectly good air guitar!

Featuring brief turns from Ozzy and Gene Simmons, a glam-tinged soundtrack from Fastway, and one of Michael Jackson's backup dancers, Trick or Treat has a little something for everyone. The Drop with Danno on GFN 광주영어방송

As broadcast April 14, 2023 with plenty of extra groans.  Tonight we welcomed Matt Scotch (no way that's a real name, get outta here) and Hank Smith (also fake, obvioiusly) from the LA-based UGHH, which is the newest band on the illustrious Poor Man Records roster.  These two obvious alias users kicked their band mate out of his own house then joined us for an interview and playlist selection of their favorite tunes while we highlighted the joints from their new 7" single.  It was a lot of fun, although Danno went home and changed the locks to his house immediately, it must be duly noted.Tracklist:Part I (00:00)Motorhead – OverkillDrinking Boys & Girls Choir – Linda LindaOtoboke Beaver – S'il vous plaitRUMKICKS – Punk rockerYura Yura Teikoku – YURA YURA TEIKOKU DE KANGAECHU13Steps – We Turn DownKegawa No Maries – (injung) Part II (31:28)Jerry Reed – Amos Moses X – Dancing with Tears In My EyesM.A.M.I – Chico EmpresarioPigeon – RelentlessDry Cleaning – Scratchcard LanyardBicurious – I Don't Do Drugs I Just Sweat A LotPart III (58:45)UGHH – THE LENSBria – Don't Come Home A-Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind)Macrodose – Bury the SimsSuper Structure – DespairThe Nerves – Many Roads to Follow (demo)Motorhead – Love Me Like A ReptileFastway – Stand Up Part IV (93:25)UGHH – SICKKing Woman – GolgothaSlender Gems – Bring It All Back HomeLIIEK – DynamiteViagra Boys – FrogstrapGEL – Mental Static

These happen to be familiar songs that you hear at every HALLOWEEN party this time of year! Most of these are in the mainstream pop world… scary!!! However, what vile and twisted interpretations can be made by our rock n' punk n' metal ambassadors??? Listen if you dare…What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Robert is forced to test his endurance and provide feedback, as he has no idea what he will be subjected to every week. What the Riff?!?

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 29, 2022 44:15

Zebra is one of the great underrated bands of the 80's.  Randy Jackson (lead vocals, guitars, synthesizers, piano), Felix Hanemann (bass, keyboards, backing vocals) and Guy Gelso (percussion, backing vocals) formed Zebra in 1975 in New Orleans before moving to Long Island.  They were originally a cover band, playing rock with a prog rock bent from groups like Led Zeppelin, Yes, and Jethro Tull.  The band took the name Zebra after seeing a Vogue magazine cover featuring a model riding a zebra.  It would be eight years from their founding before this eponymously named album would be their debut.  Zebra the album would become one of the fastest selling debut albums in Atlantic's catalogue, peaking at number 29.  Jackson's high vocals paired with both acoustic and electric guitars, supplemented with synthesizers and special effects would create a commercial success straddling the hard rock and prog rock genres.Unfortunately, their debut album would also be their high water mark.  Zebra would produce a follow-up album which would hit the charts at number 84, then two more which would not chart.  Zebra took a brief hiatus in the early 90's, but the power trio would get back together and are still touring as of this podcast.Rob brings us this album. Who's Behind the DoorThis single hit number 61 on the Billboard Hot 100, and number 10 on the US Rock charts.  The lyrics question death and what may lie beyond.  It starts with an amazing 12-string acoustic riff and ends with an epic space-aged wall of sound.  Jackson's high tenor parts are prominent. When You Get ThereThis deeper cut takes a humorous approach to infidelity and a one-night stand.  “You wake up in the morning and you're not feeling quite the same.  You feel a gentle hand upon you, but you seem to have forgotten her name.”The La-La Song This song goes back many years to their touring days.  It has a distinctive prog rock feel. Tell Me What You WantIn our minds, this opening track from the album is reminiscent of the Alan Parson's Project or Def Leppard.  Its minor key and angst-filled lyrics depict the struggles a boy has with a girl to whom he gives everything and finds it is not enough.  ENTERTAINMENT TRACK:Maniac by Michael Sembello (from the motion picture “Flashdance”)This dance movie starring Jennifer Beals hit the screen in 1983. STAFF PICKS:Never Gonna Let You Go by Sergio Mendes Bruce starts off the staff picks with a ballad that Rick Beato calls "the most complex pop song of all time."  Originally written in 1982 by Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann and recorded by Dionne Warwick, there are 7 key changes by the time the chorus is reached.  Sergio Mendes would take this song to number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100.Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) by Journey  Brian brings us the first single off the "Frontiers" album.  It is a break-up song written by Jonathan Cain and Steve Perry while they were on the road.  It was inspired by band members going through difficult divorces, and was premiered during the "Escape" tour.  The video...well, it leaves something to be desired.Say What You Will  by FastwayWayne rocks out with a one-hit wonder from their debut self-titled album.  Fastway is a heavy metal band from Britain, and band members have connections to Motorhead and UFO.  The name comes from the combination of guitarist "Fast" Eddie Clarke and bassist Pete Way.  Dave King is on lead, and would move on to the Irish band Flogging Molly.True by Spandau BalletRob's staff pick is a staple of the 80's.  PM Dawn sampled this song, and gave the original a second life.  The lyrics were written as a tribute to Marvin Gaye - "Listen to Marvin all night long.  This is the sound of my soul."  This was the 6th biggest selling single of 1983 and Spandau Ballet's biggest hit. COMEDY TRACK:Intro to Monty Python's The Meaning of LifeThe third Monty Python motion picture “The Meaning of Life” is great just because it had something to offend everyone.

Who does that???LikesThis 250 feels more like a 300 - yesterday I was lugging the crap out of it on the trailssimple, carb bike, not many frills... Just runsStarts Really fast - that is a breath of fresh air after coming off some of the other bikesFeels really agile in the front end even though the forks are pretty low in the triple clamps. I could raise them even more and get it to feel even lighter. Since I'm running Mnt single track this summer, I might try that since generally the speeds are slower there.Comes with factory installed radiator fan - great! It runs a lot when riding the slower stuff, don't get to program when it comes on, but it also shuts off when the ignition stops. Good.Don't like as muchI honestly think the suspension is valved a touch stiff for the really rocky nasty stuff - it's more in line for faster desert stuff, but the geometry feels like it's designed to go slowVibrates a lot more than the counterbalanced Austrian bikes - you get used to it though.Clutch feels heavier than on a KTM/Husky/GasGas bike. Finger fatigue More of a cramped feel in the cockpit. I think it would be great if you are 5'10" and under. I'm 6 feel and it feels too small.Pegs take getting used to, but I installed the Fastway pegs and they create another problem with my feet - pressure pointDon't like the Michelin tires that come on the bikeGrip compound is hard for me. I will likely try to find some short bar risers to get a little more comfort therehas great bottom end power, but seems to sign off quicker, or get flatter quicker than my KTM 250 XC. Fuel petcock is in a weird spotSupport the show

Top o' the mornin' to ya! This week we turn several shades of green as we celebrate the emerald isle and St. Patrick's Day! We here in the good ol' US of A have completely bastardized this whole affair into a day of wearing ridiculous amounts of green, pretending to be of Irish descent, and getting extremely drunk while listening to U2, those single songs by The Cranberries and Thin Lizzy that everyone knows, and any host of Celtic-based punk rock (Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, etc…). Not on this episode!!! We are going to go deeper into true Irish rock n' punk n' metal that should be added to your St. Paddy's Day playlist and celebrated all year round! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we listen to some artist that throw a little traditional Irish into their mix and others that just simply rock! Here's to a long life and a merry one. A quick death and an easy one. Do you like being scared? We certainly do, and that's why Wet Tee Shirt Podcast is kicking off October with four weeks of Halloween, beginning with the Dangerous Toys classic, "Scared". Candace the Clown has some pretty specific criteria when it comes to music she's up for playing this month, so the songs all have to have something about them that works in a Halloween playlist! Thankfully, Dangerous Toys make playing this game easy...once we get past our spooky news segment, we start off with Jason McMaster's former project, Watchtower, and a song from their only record with him, "Asylum"! Then we make our way into the band that we all know him for, and after watching the "Scared" video, we also catch "Bones in the Gutter" from the same debut album, "Demon Bell" from their contribution to the Wes Craven's "Shocker" soundtrack, we go to 1994's "Pissed" and let things get a little "Strange" before we finish our tour of the Toys' catalog with a listen to "Monster Man" from 1995's "The R*tist 4*merly Known as Dangerous Toys" record. This episode is full of carnival sounds, costumes, finding ways to keep talking about "No More Tears", and spooky ooky things! We even finish you off with Fastway's "Trick-or-Treat". It's time to clown around! Take mommy's lace and the whiskey off the top shelf, rent yourself some spiders, snakes, and rats, and don't forget to allow your hair to dry without a dedicated part!
