Doug Stuart and Cody Cook talk about Cody's new book, The Pocket Anabaptist, an introductory work about the theology, history, and unique characteristics of the Anabaptist tradition.Cody shares what inspired him to write The Pocket Anabaptist, a concise and approachable systematic theology exploring the radical Reformation's legacy. Doug and Cody discuss the book's origins, the Anabaptist reputation for prioritizing ethics over systematic dogma, and the surprising depth and organization in early Anabaptist thought. The conversation delves into core topics like the relationship between anarchism and Anabaptism, the importance of the church-state separation, Anabaptist views on creeds, and how they interpret the Bible—especially in terms of Christ-centered hermeneutics and the difference between Old and New Covenants. They also tackle how Anabaptists approach missions, their global impact, and address common questions: Are Anabaptists Protestants? How do they relate to broader Christian traditions? What role does eschatology play, especially in light of the tumultuous events at Munster, and how do Anabaptists understand ruling alongside God?If you're curious about the intersections of liberty, systematic theology, and practical Christian living, or if you'd like a fresh take on how the Sermon on the Mount can be lived in the here and now, this episode is a must-listen. Send us a textWhat happens when religious institutions claim divine powers that Scripture reserves for God alone? Our conversation dives deep into Catholic doctrine, particularly examining the troubling claim that priests can forgive sins and transform bread and wine into Christ's literal body and blood. We unpack how these teachings directly contradict Scripture's clear message about who holds ultimate spiritual authority. As one participant notes, "I'm not lying when I say that the Pope thinks he is Christ on earth—that's their creed." This exploration isn't about attacking individuals but understanding how theological misconceptions impact our relationship with God.The discussion transitions to an equally profound question: What does true Sabbath observance look like for believers today? Moving beyond debates about Saturday versus Sunday worship, we examine what Scripture actually teaches about rest, worship, and the spiritual purpose behind this commandment. Participants offer diverse perspectives on what meaningful Sabbath practice involves—from focused worship and prayer to serving others as Christ did.A fascinating theological exchange emerges around the continuity between Old and New Covenants. While some argue the entire Mosaic Law has been fulfilled in Christ, others highlight the moral principles that transcend covenant boundaries. This leads to critical observations about how contemporary churches have often blended covenant practices, sometimes without biblical warrant. The conversation concludes with a preview of tomorrow's discussion focusing specifically on the theological implications of claiming authority to forgive sins. Join us as we continue examining these foundational questions that shape how we understand God's authority, Christ's finished work, and our place in His kingdom. The Balance of GrayGod, doubt, and proof walk into a podcast... it goes better than you'd expect!Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the show

Recorded in Oklahoma City as part of Reformed Forum's Redemptive History Seminar, this discussion examines how Scripture should be read and understood through the lens of God's unfolding revelation in Christ. Dr. Mininger provides fresh insights into Romans 1–3, uncovering the biblical theme of revelation and how it shapes our understanding of God's righteousness. The conversation also tackles Hebrews 6, a notoriously difficult passage, through a redemptive historical framework—showing why a return to the Old Covenant is both impossible and perilous. Throughout the episode, the panel reflects on the importance of a Christ-centered hermeneutic, the role of Scripture as its own interpreter, and how biblical theology helps believers grasp the grand narrative of redemption. The discussion concludes with engaging audience questions, further unpacking key interpretive challenges. This study by Pastor Anthony Uvenio delves into the book of Titus, drawing parallels with the opening of Ephesians. His discussion begins with an explanation of the first paragraph of Titus, emphasizing Paul's role as a servant of God and apostle of Jesus Christ, and his mission to promote Christian faith and knowledge. The concept of apostleship is explored, comparing Paul to Old Testament figures and highlighting the necessity of having seen the risen Christ and performed miracles. The lesson also addresses the topic of election, explaining it as God's choice and purpose, leading believers to embrace and persevere in Christ's grace. Various scriptures are cited to illustrate the idea of God's elect and the assurance of salvation being entirely from God. The discussion touches on the complexities of predestination and election, urging careful handling of these topics. The Old and New Covenants are contrasted, with the Old Covenant's repeated sacrifices and curses juxtaposed against the New Covenant's final sacrifice of Jesus and the writing of God's law on human hearts. The study emphasizes the sufficiency of Christ and the greater glory of the ministry of the Spirit over the ministry of condemnation.Pastor Anthony also explores the idea of being chosen by God, not based on personal merit but on God's mercy and grace. It critiques the notion of baptismal regeneration and stresses that union with Christ is solely due to God's action. The episode concludes with a personal testimony, a critique of self-centered questioning of God's actions, and a final prayer of gratitude for God's grace. In this episode of the Biblical Anarchy Podcast, host Jacob Winograd explores eschatology, Old Testament prophecy, and covenant theology. Jacob delves into how the Old Testament passages foreshadow the New Covenant and the messianic reign of Christ. He emphasizes the fulfillment hermeneutic, which sees Christ as the ultimate fulfillment of these prophecies. By examining key passages from Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Isaiah, and Joel, Jacob explains how the messianic kingdom is characterized by spiritual transformation rather than a physical, coercive rule.Jacob also discusses the role of Christians in the current era, highlighting the importance of focusing on internal spiritual renewal through the Holy Spirit, rather than relying on external pressures or political power to enforce righteousness. He challenges common interpretations of eschatological passages that suggest a future physical reign of Christ, advocating instead for an understanding rooted in the internal and spiritual nature of the New Covenant.Full Shownotes at https://libertarianchristians.com/episode/ep-75-what-kind-of-kingdom-did-the-old-testament-prophets-foresee-earthly-or-spiritual/Additional Resources:Title: The Transformative Power of the Gospel in SocietySummary: This episode explores how the gospel transforms culture and society, emphasizing the role of the Holy Spirit in the New Covenant era.Link: http://biblicalanarchypodcast.com/episode/transformative-gospelTitle: Covenant Theology and Christian EthicsSummary: Dive deeper into covenant theology and its implications for modern Christian living and political engagement.Link: http://libertarianchristians.com/podcast/covenant-theology-ethicsTitle: Understanding the Continuity of the CovenantsSummary: A comprehensive discussion on the relationship between the Old and New Covenants, and how they shape our understanding of the Bible.Link: http://libertarianchristians.com/episode/continuity-covenantsThe Biblical Anarchy Podcast is part of the Christians For Liberty Network, a project of the Libertarian Christian Institute. Religion is a distortion of redemption. Religion always turns the symbols of our salvation into the substance and the sources. The message of Hebrews is to stop putting your hope in the rituals and symbols and start putting your hope in the true sources of salvation—the reality of what Jesus did at Calvary! What did both the Old and New Covenants have in common? 1.) Both the Old and New Covenants were ratified by blood. 2.) The Old Testament saints were saved on the same basis as those in the New—the shed blood of Christ. 3.) Under both covenants, people are saved by God's grace alone through their faith alone—not by their works. Our freedom from sin's penalty is not in the rituals, symbols, and shadows of our salvation, but rather in the source—the blood of Christ. He substitutionary death in our place is what saves us. The Jewish followers of Jesus tried to embrace the New Covenant (Grace) while still hanging on to the Old Covenant (Law). Elements of the Old Covenant were merely “shadows” of the reality of the New Covenant. The contrasts between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant: 1.) We have a better Priest. 2.) We have a better Tabernacle. 3.) We have a better Mediator. 4.) We have better promises. How does the New Covenant make new and better promises? 1.) It is an internal covenant. 2.) It is a personal covenant. 3.) It is a final covenant. God never intended for the first covenant to be the final covenant. The New Covenant makes better promises because God promises to cleanse our sins completely. The Old Covenant could picture forgiveness, but it could not give forgiveness. The New Covenant is final because, in Christ, our sins are completely forgiven. Join Pastor Phil Hopper as he discusses the differences between the Old and New Covenants and why Jesus is better because His sacrifice completely covered our sins. Dr. Michael Weis with Zion's Hope reminds us of the first 2 elements and then zeroes in on the next topic: that the Northern and Southern Kingdoms of Israel will be reunited in the Kingdom. Dr. Weis connects this with the Abrahamic and New Covenants, and helps us apply principles for reconciliation in our own relationships.  He then turns to how the Jewish people will be in a place of prominence in the Kingdom, where God will fulfill all of His promises to them, proving this from various texts.
