Radio host and TV personality Gus Worland is a ripper. I absolutely loved this chat with a great human who's doing great things to help other humans in need of someone to listen, care, support and occasionally, hug. Apart from being a well-known and highly-respected media performer (whose best Mate is Hugh Jackman), Gus is also the driving force behind Gotcha4Life; a charity working to prevent suicide and break the stigma around mental health issues. This was a warm, insightful and funny chat with one of the most inspired (and inspiring) people l've met in a long time. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today, microphones across Triple M's 49 radio stations will switch off for the network's annual No Talk Day, with a goal to create space for listeners to check-in with themselves and their mates. That's because every day, nine Australians take their own life – and according to Lifeline, on average, seven of those are men. Partnering with Lifeline, Triple M's goal is to build awareness and encourage fundraising for this vital national service. Now in its sixth year, between 6am and 6pm, Triple M will pause all shows, announcers and ads, along with all news and traffic reports, as a reminder to make mental health a priority and encourage listeners to start a conversation for themselves or with someone they care about. Gus Worland is no stranger to conversations about mental health. He was known as being one of the toughest men but, JK spent a lot of his rugby career paralysed by anxiety. During his time as an All Black, the conversation around mental health was very different to what it is today and JK was, at least in part, a reason that our understanding of mental health has shifted. In this chat we speak about what the early days of being an All Black were like; not much pay and the need for a second job! He played 63 test matches for the All Blacks from 1984 to 1994 and was part of the winning 1987 Rugby World Cup team. He also played for the Warriors and had success as a rugby coach, including on the international stage with Italy and Japan. We speak about JK's family and why he has such a deep connection to Italy.  In 2012, JK was knighted for his services to mental health – an honour & a life long responsibility as he says. How many people are in your village? It might sound like a silly question - as not many of us live in villages anymore, yet for the vast majority of our evolution - we lived in communities that we depended on for support and care, and communities that depended on us. Community-driven purpose was baked into our way of living and as our brains and bodies evolved expecting these things.Without that support or purpose, things can get out of balance.Osher is joined by broadcaster and the founder of Gotcha4Life, Gus Worland.
