This week's podcast is actually a lecture that went out in my online membership group The Hero Lab. Lots of members wanted to learn more about how to start working with other professionals. Such as medical providers wanting to start working with a gym or strength coaches wanting to get in with some gymnastics clubs in the area. Coaches want to know the factors or qualities they should look for in a medical provider, strength coach, sports psychologist, or nutritionist's because the reality is that it's challenging to find great professional experts in different domains that are highly qualified and interested in and understand gymnastics. I share my experience of what I did to establish successful working relationships but also what highly successful Colleges, National Staff, and Clubs do so that hopefully other people can replicate that model and gain the same performance benefits.

This week we move on to how to optimize our athletes training for the In-Season to hit meets, progress towards goals, and can mentally, physically, and emotionally handle the long demanding season. During the In-Season we're not trying to go crazy and build strength or an engine in our gymnast, with the latest research and my experiences with phenomenal coaches I'll share the strength conditioning, cardio system, and maintenance care work you should be doing.   I DISCUSS; The main goals of In Season.   Yearly planning and how to peak at the right time.   What strength and conditioning should look like In Season and example workouts.   When and how do you deload sessions.   Have your athlete got a wellness journal?   If you would like to see the full 4 lectures and slides head to my online group Hero Lab:   https://shiftmovementscience.com/theherolab/

I talk about strength conditioning and how to turn the strength gains from the offseason into explosive power that will show up in routines. Sharing important research, some of my favorite workouts, programs, and templates that I've used successfully with my own gymnasts but also Club, College, and Elite teams I have consulted with around the world.    I DISCUSS; the main goals of a preseason.   The best cardio routines you should be doing to get your athletes ready for harder routines.   What you can do in the preseason to really prepare athletes physically, mentally, and emotionally.   The hourglass analogy.   If you would like to see the full 4 lectures and slides head to my online group Hero Lab:   https://shiftmovementscience.com/theherolab/

This week on the podcast, we are kicking off an extremely exciting four-part adventure that has been highly requested by my Hero Lab members, about how to get the most success out of the competitive year in gymnastics. When you look at the competitive year it often becomes overwhelming with what should you be focusing on in the preseason versus the in-season versus the offseason? What is the best strength conditioning, cardio, or approach routine development? I don't have the golden answer that's going to fit everyone. But I'm fortunate over the last 10 years, I've worked with 1000s of gymnasts, as a coach, medical provider, consultant, researcher. Plus learning from phenomenal coaches, I have been able to practically take all of their experiences with my scientific background, and turn it into a successful model of how to approach the competitive year.  In this first lecture, I am going to take people through my state of the approach of what I do right now, starting with some background principles, things we have to know to be successful first, for all parts of the seasons.    I DISCUSS; the basic equation of human adaptation.   How do you find the optimal dose of stress?   Load and recovery cycles.   ALSO…   The 4 main categories you should be focusing on all year round.   If you would like to see the full lecture and slides head to my online group Hero Lab:   https://shiftmovementscience.com/theherolab/

This podcast is actually the audio from a recorded lecture I did for the entire staff on: an in-service related to assessing hips. Looking at the way people move for a hip function, hip mobility, what different tests can be done, who needs a different type of squat or exercise program, or what kind of mobility limitations somebody might have, and how you'd go about fixing those. A lot of people are interested in this kind of stuff so I wanted to share this audio version, but if you're really interested in seeing the test being broken down the full video version is on our online platform the Hero Lab and Shift HQ, which is essentially my monthly membership group where we have a massive amount of gymnastics medical providers, overall strength coaches and people in the community who are learning from me, doing lectures and also interacting with other likeminded people online.    If you want to see the video version of this click the link below: www.shiftmovementscience.com/theherolab   We DISCUSS; The "layers" of the hip from boney, to ligaments, to the kinetic chain.   Breaking down hip flexor, quad, and adductor soft tissue flexibility.   Understanding when mobility won't change based on bone structure.   How to assess hamstring tightness vs nerve tension.   ALSO…   How to change programs and exercises based on the table assessment.

In this Wrath episode, the heroes begin their first preparations for their invasion into the Ivory Labyrinth! But the meeting of a god could throw their plans into disarray! I've been waiting for this scene the entire adventure path. It was awesome. Please check it out, there's returning long-term characters, there's scenes with me arguing with myself - Hell yeah. No character sheets this session, Hero Lab is causing troubles.

Lone Wolf Development has been going for a number of years and Hero Lab has become the go-to application for a lot of people when is about character creation and campaign management. A hugely comprehensive set of stats and data, it makes the task of managing your character, campaign or adventure easier and with less things to remember. It has been a while since they released the Pathfinder Adventure Path to help you run your campaigns and now they are releasing modules, smaller adventures with everything you need to keep track of encounters, locations, treasure, NPCs… I thought a few questions were in order and Colen McAlister was the perfect person for that. Because he knows pretty much everything about Hero Lab and the company. You can download a free trial for Windows and Mac here. So here it goes… hope you enjoy the show!

This Thursday August 6th Dungeon Crawlers will be talking with Colen McAlister the Lead Designer of Hero Lab.   Hero Lab makes character creation a breeze, automatically tracking modifiers for every stat, ability, item, spell, and option you select. Our automated validation engine verifies that all prerequisites, minimums, and other requirements have been met, pointing out where your character is in conflict with the rules. Hero Lab also acts as an electronic character sheet at the game table, keeping track of your health, abilities, and more during the game. Once the adventure is over, use your experience to advance your character to the next level and beyond! Hero Lab supports Pathfinder, Shadowrun, and many other game systems - check the complete list to see if your favorite game is supported!

The General advice and discussion podcast from The Rpg Academy I am Michael and this is Dungeon Talk Episode 44 - Realm Works. Caleb and I start off the interview by chatting with Liz for a bit and making her feel welcome. We then move on the the meat of the show which is to discuss Lone Wolf Developments new program Realm Works  ( http://www.wolflair.com/realmworks/ ) which is  a complete campaign management program.  Liz was able to get Caleb and I review copies of the program, but because it is not currently available for Mac i was unable to get hands-on with the program.  Caleb did and LOVED it. If you search Realm Works on Youtube there are plenty of Demo videos available if you would like to see the program in use before you decide if it's right for you. Lastly, I asked Liz a question that she could not answer :  "What was the meaning behind the name Lone Wolf Development?"  She got me the answer the next day on e-mail and it's due to the owner of the company having started the company on his own and was its only employee for a couple years. Thus : Lone Wolf. Thanks for listening. We hope you enjoy. The gamers come back from their hiatus, which featured less gaming than any of them care to admit. Sildar talks a little Bioshock and rags on EA, then discusses the Ouya and tries to avoid thinking about the Steam Summer Sale. Delinquent talks about Hero Lab and the advantages of paper books over electronic for your pen and paper RPG needs, and waxes poetic about his experiences with modern shooters and multiplayer. Griffin talks about game difficulties and the future of consoles, and schools Del and Sil with some old-school knowledge. The gamers also discuss controller comfort and discuss their past console experiences before going off on bizarre tangents.
