When we experience some kind of conflict in our lives; when we experience disappointment, we have two choices. We can allow ourselves, through clinging and aversion, to become dysregulated and act out in anger and resentment. Forgetting the consequences of shame, guilt, and embarrassment for a moment, let's look at what happens in this place of dysregulation. In this dysregulation, you are blind and deaf to what is going on around you and when life reaches out to you in the form of a loved one, friend, or even some kind of opportunity, you are not there to meet it. But what if we intentionally practice kindness in this moment, in spite of whatever level of disappointment or anger we might feel entitled to? If we practice kindness in this circumstance, we make a connection to the person involved in the conflict. In this connection, we make ourselves more healthy and increase our own well-being and become more open to connecting to the rest of what's going on around us. Which would you choose? Mel got a new microphone. So first of all many apologies for the sound difference of sound in Ashely and Mel's mics. Hopefully we will have this corrected by a sound engineer in the next week or so, so if it is bothering you, please come back in a week and try again. Otherwise, enjoy! Ashley Clark grew up to become the person we all, all meaning little girls who lived in winter places, dreamed about being brave enough to become. Ashley is has been and is forever an ice skating princess, character, master, and Jane of the jungle fire dancing goddess, on ice. This episode is going to inspire and shock you with her incredible career path stories. Ashley and Mel Rose met in Costa Rica literally chasing waterfalls. Both ladies realized the other was a long lost now found seastar and spirit animal for the other. Both hail from 100% italian mothers, and both have a deep passion for living their own life, growth, courage, love and of course...waterfalls. When Mel found out that Ashley is not only an incredible ice skater but someone who chases her dreams fearlessly, Mel needed to get her on the podcast for all of you to hear from. Listen to her wild story of begging her mom for her destiny in the form of Ice Skates when she was 4 and a half, to trying out for Disney on Ice while skipping school with her bestie and landing the job on the spot, to marrying the man of her dreams. Ashely's best advice to anyone listening is to: Just say Yes and Figuring it out later. She is also a master of turning Nos into Yes'. Her ability to think outside the box with her career path, hello Scar!, and to embracing her feminine qualities with new jobs, and her love of adventure and helping other people realize their greatness is just the best mentality to come across and an inspiration to us all. Check out her links here for the shows she talks about. Ashley's winning performance with LED love in the 2016 U.S. Open for Ice Skating Another amazing Fire and Ice performance with her spinning poi on fire while skating. Ashely backflipping on ice! Try using Overdrive to read for free. All you need is a library card! Write down and download all the book recommendations in this podcast for continued listening and exploration of this topic. Ashley's current read and suggestion is Untamed by Glendon Doyle.
Hackaday editors Elliot Williams and Mike Szczys travel through the greatest hacks the week had on offer. Charge up your ice skates (literally) by adding spiked electric motors to push you across the frozen pond. If that's too cold for early March, snuggle up with a good book under the warm light of a clever lamp made from a rotary-dial telephone. We discuss CAD and CAM in your browser, and a software tool to merge images with PCB gerber files. The episode wraps up with a discussion the balance of quality versus speed when prototyping, and digesting the environmental impact of the Bitcoin network.
