Embark on a theological journey with us, where we peel back layers of Catholic dogma and faith with a touch of humor and deep insight. Our conversation dances through the concept of "faith alone" salvation, the implications of a "once saved, always saved" mindset, and the intriguing world of celebrity conversions. Alongside us is Jimmy Akin (disclaimer: this was a parody and impression), the esteemed Catholic apologist who not only shares his theological wisdom but also humbly acknowledges the limits of his expertise with refreshing candor. We veer into the whimsical and the profound, debating whether Italians are white, the proper snacks to serve at an alien gathering, and the morality of time travel attire—or lack thereof. Our dialogue takes an unexpected turn with a light-hearted critique on 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' and a contemplative reflection on the transformative power of miracles in affirming faith. Prepare for a lively mix of theological musings, laughter-inducing debates, and (parody) Jimmy's unique hydration strategies. As we look toward the future of the Catholic Church, we wrestle with the cultural shift towards orthodoxy and the challenges naturalism poses. We peer into the potential resurgence of traditional values among the youth, the looming specter of schism, and the enduring resilience of faith. Join us for these explorations and more as we navigate the beautiful tapestry of Catholicism's past, present, and future.Support the Show.********************************************************https://www.avoidingbabylon.comLocals Community: https://avoidingbabylon.locals.comRSS Feed for Podcast Apps: https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/1987412.rssSpiritusTV: https://spiritustv.com/@avoidingbabylonOdysee: https://odysee.com/@AvoidingBabylon

After last week's unintended break, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait return to take a big-picture look at Manchester United by reviewing three away games at once: one win, one draw and one defeat. Avoiding the obvious narratives around the Newcastle defeat, they consider the problems and potential solutions for Erik ten Hag's spluttering Reds. Breaking up our big-picture discussion is Guess the Player, the Academy Briefing, some top MUFC trivia and a preview of Wednesday's game against Chelsea. Learn more about your ad choices. Ensuring your plan possesses a genuine strategy is crucial, yet sometimes, strategic plans lack strategic essence. Here's why this happens and how to prevent it. Imagine joining a new management team and attempting to grasp the existing strategic plan. You ask for documentation due to the confusing explanations from your new colleagues. However, reviewing the outputs from the last planning project doesn't provide the clarity you seek. Instead, it overwhelms with numerous words and diagrams, leaving you feeling lost. The strategy fails to emerge from the pages.
In this eye-opening episode, Joey Pinz dives into the realities of entrepreneurship with special guest Anna Gomez. Don't miss this candid conversation that shatters the myth of "being your own boss" and offers valuable insights into the often-overlooked challenges entrepreneurs face.
#673. One step forward, two steps back. Maybe more. This was as poor a performance from United as we've seen this season. Insipid, lethargic, perhaps even lazy. What's going on? Ed & Wayne discuss defeat to Crystal Palace and then look ahead to Galatasaray on Tuesday night. Tagline Jim Morris is the author of Badvertising: An Expose of Insipid, Insufferable, Ineffective Advertising. Armed with a degree in philosophy and an unnatural fondness for hippos, Jim spent a decade in pursuit of rock and roll stardom. Failing that, he became copywriter and creative director at ad agencies from FCB to DDB Worldwide. For the past 25 years, Jim has enjoyed a thriving freelance copywriting business while teaching copywriting at Columbia College for 12 years and writing a monthly column for Screen for five years. He is currently nurturing an adjunct speaking career. Jim's accomplishments include authoring dozens of successful taglines, including “We are Flintstones Kids, Ten Million Strong and Growing,” the cornerstone of one of the longest-running campaigns of the last half century; and creating an international branding campaign for Lions Clubs International. Having self-published a collection of his non-advertising writing, his expose of the advertising industry is out. That whole thing about dogs and vomit and people repeating the same harmful things sends Ryan and Heidi talking about their own lives and where they are eating their own vomit and maybe a time or two they stopped. Enjoy the word vomit and hopefully let's all stop eating so much of our own vomit. (That's a lot of vomit.)
A quick little chat about fear and love and the here and now. You know… all that stuff.
A Bonus Holiday Podcast! Ryan and Heidi talk about thanksgiving and Ryan tries to say why he's not super happy with it, while Heidi tries to say he should maybe not be so negative and Ryan tries to explain it better and Heidi wonders if it's kinda of a downer but she admits she's tired and, yeah, by the end there seems to be some good news found.
All about the well analogy. The one that says it's not about the wells but the water. And it's definitely one of the best out there. We also could have gone with it is "well" with my soul for this one but that might have caused too much PTSD.
Some thoughts about two kinds of people and the way they see the world. Or want to see the world. Or think about the world. Or want to think about the world. Maybe it's just what is interesting.
Some thoughts about the small topic of the resurrection. Did it really happen, like that? Or is it possible there is, maybe, a better way that involves seeing more than empty tombs?
Ryan and Heidi are back! And they've got a whole quiver full of podcasts already recorded with them, so the good times are going to go for a while. The first episode is about Ryan being "angry at the church" and some explanations about why that's true or not. Warning: emotion in this one!
Back 4 Blood Impressions | Special Guest Luke Lore aka Insipid Ghost Today we sit down with Luke Lore from the Xbox Expansion Pass Podcast. Are you ready to do some deep breathing? Not the kind you do after some huffy puffy or running to catch your chosen option of public transport...bugger that nonsense. We're talking about that other kind of nonsense breathing you do, you know, when you're desperately trying to centre yourself, finding your “moment of zen”, or just trying to keep on smiling and not scream, that kind of breathing. Em will talk you through it, plus she'll give you the ultimate excuse to keep listening to this pod while you work. Then we'll offer up a quick rundown on her side hustle of interior decorating, before we get into the bulk of this episode, working our way through the questions Emsolators demanded answers for via the Emsolation podcast Instagram page. Together Em and Michael will cover off heaps of this and that and such and such, but to get things started, we kick off with the Number One question everyone is keen to get an update on, which is, what did Michael think of the reaction he got to the debut screening of his new ABC TV show ‘The Newsreader' on Sunday night? Obviously it was a HUGE success and it also proved to be an entertaining highlight during a week that delivered some utterly awful news. That's why we've chosen to keep this entire episode light and fun by delivering up answers on everything from the TV shows that defined Em and Michael's High School experience (where we'll witness a not so shocking revelation that they both pick the exact same TV show, besties for life right) plus the show that Em's mum didn't want her to watch because it gave Em a “bad attitude”. We also find out which show Em would pick to perform at, if she could ONLY choose one between Madonna or John Peter Farnham. Then there's the question about if Em would ever act as surrogate for Michael and his husband Adrian, and also would Michael want Em to be their surrogate for a baby? They actually get heated and disagree over who's the hottest Disney Prince and why, we also help an Emsolator with some very tricky in-law dramas and Michael has to give his take on witnessing Em go through all the drama that came from her time doing breakfast radio again. There's also time for which of the Hogwarts Houses they'd belong to (fun fact, Em has thought about this A LOT) and should you help someone come out before they're ready to acknowledge it for themselves. Plus there seems to be A LOT of women in their 30's, who are single, watching time slip by as the pandemic continues, wondering how they will ever meet someone, thankfully Em and Michael have some great advice and experiences to share that will definitely help you if you're in that sort of headspace right now. Finally there's answers from Em about when she knew Scott was the one, which offers up a full rundown of how they met and their very first date, so prepare to feel ALL of the emotions and get some healthy distractions from any and everything you might be experiencing right now, you've got this and we've got you too, hugs beautiful. Kathy Clugston hosts the horticultural programme featuring a group of gardening experts. Chris Beardshaw, Christine Walkden and Anne Swithinbank are on hand to answer questions from the virtual audience. Away from the questions, regular GQT panellist Matt Biggs kicks off our feature series by giving a fervent tribute to his favourite tree, the Handkerchief tree. Danea (love_and_deconstruction on the Insta) has a story. From a pastor's kid in a Lutheran Church, to Mars Hill, to Jerry Falwell Jr. to… well, she just removed all the Bibles from her house. This is a powerful, raw, and very fresh story and it will connect on so many levels. Soak it in and let it sit. For real.
Badvertising: An Expose of Insipid, Insufferable, Ineffective Advertising by Jim Morris Jim Morris has been responsible for some of the most memorable ad campaigns in history. He knows best that bad ads don’t just create themselves. Part indictment on the advertising industry, part cautionary tale on what not to do with your ads, Jim pulls no punches to better advertising people everywhere. How can the ad industry even exist when almost all of the products that it produces fall on a continuum from flawed to failed? What is it about this industry and the process of creating, selling, and producing ads that cause so much advertising to be so bad? These are the questions answered in Badvertising. A provocative, truth-to-power exposé of ad agencies’ flaws, foibles, and failings—and why they matter to the consumer and to those in the business. Morris, an advertising legend known as “Tagline Jim,” surveys myriad advertising “agents of stupidity.” Hilarious, horrifying, and insightful, each chapter is a grenade lobbed into America’s ad bunkers. Badvertising is a candid, never-seen-before accumulation of real-world don’ts and more don’ts, providing valuable cautionary tales of advertising’s stupid side. Another awesome interview, this time with Karissa, the Angry Church Kid. You might think she's angry, because of her name, but she's actually very kind and inspiring and… well... yeah a little angry at some stuff too. Enjoy fireflies and summer camps and more!
Meet Abi (aka The Wanderer). She grew up in The Brethren Church. Being curious and a woman (in a world where women weren't allowed to have much of a voice) she started asking questions pretty early on and she hasn't stopped. From summer camps, worship music, and women covering their heads to… there probably isn't even a god. Or is there? Meet Abi. Enjoy.

Vulnerability is a strength not a weakness, the antidote to shame and an open hand to connection. When asked "How are you doing?" or "How was your day?" don't say "Fine" or "Yeh, good", just say the truth. Insipid responses dilute our potential to connect with others. So be open, be honest, vulnerable and strong and you'll find more sisters and brothers.
