Dr. Diana Londoño, a board-certified urologist, will explore the powerful connection between emotional states and physical health, emphasizing how our inner experiences directly influence disease and healing. She will explain how the nervous system responds differently to fear and love—fear activating stress pathways that can weaken immunity and contribute to chronic illness, while love and safety promote balance, repair, and overall well-being. By contrasting the physiological and psychological impacts of fear versus love, she highlights how our emotional patterns can either harm or support our health. Central to her discussion is the idea that gratitude serves as a transformative bridge, fostering abundance, deeper human connection, and improved health by shifting the body and mind into a more resilient and harmonious state. What does it mean when society begins to fear the very technology it creates? In this Free-Text First Friday episode, we examine artificial intelligence through a distinctly Lutheran lens. God's Word provides a framework for understanding our relationship to the tools we make, from the creation mandate to subdue the earth, through the fall and its effects on human work, to the redemption found in Christ. Along the way, we discover that AI is less a new problem and more a mirror reflecting the human heart back to itself. And Luther's explanation of the First Commandment reminds us that both excessive fear of AI and excessive trust in it can become forms of idolatry.  The Rev. A. Trevor Sutton, senior pastor of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Lansing, MI and author of Redeeming Technology, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe for this First Friday Free-Text edition of Thy Strong Word.  Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. Our Doubts Are Traitors #RTTBROS #Nightlight"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." — 2 Timothy 1:7You know, William Shakespeare wrote something that has stuck with me for years. One of his characters says, "Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt." Shakespeare wasn't a theologian, but he understood something profound about human nature.Doubt is a traitor. It whispers in our ear just when we're about to step out in faith. And here's the thing, that voice of doubt isn't just our own insecurity talking. The enemy knows that if he can keep us doubting, he can keep us from attempting the very things God has called us to do.I think about Peter walking on the water. He's actually doing it, defying gravity, moving toward Jesus. But then Matthew 14:30 tells us, "But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me." The doubt crept in, and suddenly what had been possible became impossible in his mind.Satan doesn't have to defeat us if he can just get us to defeat ourselves. All he needs to do is plant a seed of doubt, and watch us talk ourselves out of the very thing God is calling us to do.Think about all the "almosts" in your life. The ministry you almost started. The person you almost witnessed to. How many of those were stopped not by actual obstacles, but by the traitor of doubt? Here's what God says: He hasn't given us a spirit of fear. He's given us power, love, and a sound mind. That means when doubt shows up and starts whispering its poisonous lies, we have the authority to reject it.What would you attempt for God if you knew you couldn't fail? Even if we stumble like Peter, Jesus is right there to catch us. Don't let doubt rob you of the good you might win. Step out in faith and watch what God can do when you refuse to let fear have the final word.Let's pray: Father, forgive us for letting doubt talk us out of what You've called us to do. Give us courage to step out in faith and trust Your power more than we fear our weakness. In this personal episode, Esther opens her heart and shares a journey that has shaped her over the past seven years — the journey of being single, of rediscovering her worth, and of learning what love truly means when it comes from within. After years of independence and strength as a single mom, Esther realized something profound: being strong is beautiful, but being soft is transformative. At a Tony Robbins event, surrounded by thousands of people, she had a powerful awakening — one that made her see her role not just as a woman, but as a mother, a role model, and a mirror for her two sons.In this episode, you'll hear why being single can be the most sacred time of self-discovery,The moment Esther understood that healing herself means healing generationsHow masculine and feminine energies can become unbalanced — and how to restore harmony Why vulnerability is not weakness but the birthplace of loveEsther speaks with raw honesty and compassion — about growing up between a strong father and a fragile mother, about wearing the armor of “the strong woman,” and about the courage it takes to finally lay it down. This episode is an invitation to every woman who has ever felt she needed to do it all alone.  It's for the strong ones who long to feel held again. It's for the hearts that are ready to open — slowly, softly, bravely. Because love isn't lost. It's always been there — quietly waiting for you to open the door.BOOKS:

Loneliness is not simply a symptom. It is a strategy—an unconscious, defensive medicine against the terror of intimacy. We often assume people “suffer” from loneliness, but for many with insecure or avoidant attachment styles, chronic or pathological loneliness is less an affliction than an unconscious solution. In other words: loneliness is the antidote they have chosen against the unbearable poison of love.

Have you ever given your heart to someone… only to feel like it wasn't enough? I open up about the fears that show up in our closest relationships—the fear of not being enough, the fear of loving too much, the fear of being left without explanation.I've been there. Again and again. I gave love, and I got silence. I trusted, and I was abandoned. I hoped, and I was disappointed. And maybe you've been there too.Maybe you're still carrying the unhealed patterns from your childhood—your parents' way of relating, the rules they never spoke but lived by. I know I did. And I kept wondering: What am I doing wrong? Why do I always end up hurt? This episode isn't just about pain. It's about awakening. It's about learning to ask the hard questions. And about learning to give love without losing yourself.I share stories about past relationships, my parents, my brother, and the brave steps I had to take to free myself from the cycle of blame and fear.If you've ever felt like you cared more… If you've stayed silent because you feared the answer… If you've taken it all against yourself… This episode is for you. You're not alone. And if this touched your heart, I would truly love to hear from you—on Instagram, YouTube, or by email.BOOKS:

Why would anyone in 2025 spend any time reading Deuteronomy, Israel's covenant renewal book?  Maybe the only answer is because Jesus did.  Yet did not Jesus in Matthew 19: 1-9 declare Deuteronomy 24 : 1-4, a teaching on divorce, to be an accommodation to human hard heartedness?  It sounds like that for Jesus Deuteronomy is “out” and Genesis 2:4-6 is “in.”  But, wait a minute!  Also in Matthew, chapter four, Jesus at one of the great crisis moments of his life, in answer to Satan's temptations in the wilderness quotes Deuteronomy authoritatively three times as the word of God for Jesus.  Jesus was immersed in the Old Testament scriptures and quotes Deuteronomy as a well taught child would quote Deuteronomy as the word of God for his life. So maybe Deuteronomy is not a waste of time! 2 Timothy 3:15-17, written to a Christian believer by an apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, says of the Old Covenant Scriptures, “You have been taught the holy scriptures since childhood, and they have given you wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus.  All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true.  God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” (New Living Translation) So we are called to read Deuteronomy and all Scripture, Old and New Covenant, through the lens of Jesus the Lord, and in the power of the Spirit. Come join us as we submit ourselves to Jesus who promises us that Deuteronomy will “prepare and equip us for every good work.”

In this episode, Dr. John unpacks Deuteronomy 6:1-9, exploring the profound connection between fearing God, loving Him with all our hearts, and living faithfully in obedience to His commands. Through Moses' call to a new generation of Israel, we see how reverence for God shapes our actions, how love drives our devotion, and how faithfulness secures God's blessings. Discover what it means to live a life fully submitted to God, trusting Him for the future.Living the Moral Law: A Guide for Every Generation: We begin a new series on Deuteronomy 5-11 entitled, "Living the Moral Law: A Guide for Every Generation." Before Israel entered the Promised Land, Moses reminded them of God's Covenant and instructed them to adhere to God's Law, which is absolute and perfect. The blessings of the land would only be fulfilled when Israel lived according to God's Word. The law does not supress life's joy; it releases it. It's a lesson for us today.

This conversation with Gareth Higgins is an exploration of how storytelling, empathy, and a commitment to love can transform even the most entrenched conflicts. Gareth shares his personal journey growing up in Northern Ireland, where the dominant narrative was one of division, fear, and violence. But through the transformative power of films like 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,' Gareth discovered the importance of seeing the humanity in those we might otherwise label as 'other.' He realized the need to become an ally - not by imposing his own vision, but by listening and allowing those he seeks to support to define what true allyship looks like. Gareth goes on to unpack a profound insight - that all conflict is rooted in fear, and beneath that fear lies love. By learning to love and accept ourselves, we open the door to a new kind of storytelling, one that moves beyond 'us vs. them' narratives and towards a vision of liberation, reconciliation, and interdependence. This conversation is a masterclass in the power of imagination, empathy, and a willingness to embrace the complexity of the human experience. Whether you're navigating personal struggles or seeking to understand the roots of societal conflict, Gareth's wisdom offers a roadmap towards a more just, compassionate, and connected world. So join us.Gareth Higgins was born in Belfast in 1975, grew up during the northern Ireland Troubles, and now lives in the US. He writes and speaks about the power of storytelling to shape our lives and world, peace and making justice, and how to take life seriously without believing your own propaganda. He has been involved in peace-building and violence reduction in northern Ireland and helping address the legacy of conflict, received a Ph.D. in Sociology from Queen's University Belfast, and helped teach the world's first graduate course in Reconciliation Studies at Trinity College Dublin. He also helped found the Wild Goose, New Story and Movies & Meaning festivals. Gareth leads retreats in North America and Ireland; and he founded The Porch Magazine. Brian McLaren says Gareth's new book How Not to be Afraid is “a beautiful book”, Kathleen Norris says it's “a necessary book”, and Micky ScottBey Jones says it's “a much-needed resource for skill-building through our fear and trauma, so that we might create the belonging and communities we desire”.  Find out more at www.hownottobeafraid.comHis newest book "A Whole Life in Twelve Movies: A Cinematic Path to a Deeper Spirituality", co-authored with Kathleen Norris explores movies and the meaning of our lives.Gareth's Book:A Whole Life in Twelve MoviesGareth's Recommendations:Sun HousePerfect DaysJoin Our Patreon for Early Access and More: PatreonConnect with Joshua: jjohnson@allnations.usGo to www.shiftingculturepodcast.com Follow on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Threads at www.facebook.com/shiftingculturepodcasthttps://www.instagram.com/shiftingculturepodcast/https://twitter.com/shiftingcultur2https://www.threads.net/@shiftingculturepodcasthttps://www.youtube.com/@shiftingculturepodcastConsider Giving to the podcast and to the ministry that my wife and I do around the world. Matthew 10:26–39 Have No Fear [26] “So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. [27] What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. [28] And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. [29] Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. [30] But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. [31] Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. [32] So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, [33] but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven. Not Peace, but a Sword [34] “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. [35] For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. [36] And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. [37] Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. [38] And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. [39] Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (ESV)

Romans 13:1 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God's servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience. 6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor._____________________________Portions of our service are from Christian Worship, Christian Worship Supplement (NPH Electronic Ed.), and  Luther's Catechism (Revised) and are reprinted under One-License.net License #A-723544 and CCLI Copyright License #20992728 & Streaming License #20992735. Welcome to another episode and another season of Celestial Citizen Podcast!Today, we will be discussing all things asteroids – especially fitting given the recent successful NASA DART (or Double Asteroid Redirection Test) mission toward the end of 2022.  We'll be speaking with astronomer Dr. Martin Elvis and diving into his book – Asteroids: How Love, Fear, and Greed Will Determine Our Future in Space – it's a fascinating and informative read for anyone interested in learning more about how asteroids could influence the future of space exploration. On today's show we are joined by Dr. Martin Elvis.Dr. Elvis is an astronomer at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory which is a collaborative research effort alongside Harvard University and it is now known as the Center for Astrophysics.  Dr. Elvis has obsessed for years over how supermassive black holes come to be seen as quasars, sources so bright that we see them out to the greatest distances and earliest times in the universe.  For his PhD, Dr. Elvis discovered that quasars emit X-rays.  And at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, using a fleet of space and ground based telescopes he mapped out the spectrum of quasars from X-rays to ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths, and was able to suggest their inner structures.  Concerned about the growing expense of space telescopes, Dr. Elvis has turned to researching how astronomy is needed to enable asteroid mining.  He has since published widely on issues related to asteroid mining and the space economy, law and ethics, and even has Asteroid 9283 Martinelvis named after him.We also want to extend a big thank you to our sponsors this year for supporting our show!
