Trailblazing journalist and proud Gamilaroi woman Brooke Boney opens up like never before in All of It, her powerful debut essay collection. Like many millennial women, Brooke Boney is navigating a society that expects her to chase it all – career, success and personal fulfillment – while doing so under an unforgiving public gaze. In her highly anticipated essay collection, All of It, she reflects on the pressures of life in the spotlight as the first Indigenous host of Australian commercial breakfast television and now as an ambitious scholar striving to inspire others. With honesty and insight, she explores the competing expectations placed on young women today. In conversation with Jacinta Parsons, the charismatic and thought-provoking Boney delves into what drives her sense of purpose and meaning while grappling with the generational impacts of colonisation, love, friendship, fertility and ambition. This event was recorded on Friday 4 April 2025 at The Wheeler Centre. The official bookseller was Readings. Season 2: Episode Six Jacinta Parsons: On reclaiming your forever self, the wisdom of older women and lessons from living with chronic illness Reaching mid-life and reckoning with the ageing process can also be a time of invisibility and isolation, particularly for women. Living with a chronic illness can also be a lonely place. It can feel like the world is moving on around you while you're stuck in freeze frame. But what if these experiences were actually the birthplace for bringing forth the greatest version of ourselves? One that is truly at peace and comfortable alone. This week's guest has lived and researched both these topics and has many lessons to impart about the importance of finding our ‘forever self.' In a moving and intimate conversation, Jacinta and Jill get vulnerable as they dive into some of life's biggest topics. Jacinta Parsons is a broadcaster, public speaker, ABC Melbourne radio host and author of three books that delve into the complexities, frailties and wisdom of the human condition:Unseen: The Secret World of Chronic Illness; A Question of Age; and the soon to be released,A Wisdom of Age. You can follow Jacinta on Instagram: @jacintaparsons or visit her website here. To stay in touch with Well Enough Alone, you can follow us on Instagram @wellenoughalonepod or @jillstark__ or support the show and get subscriber-only, early and ad-free episodes on Patreon. Well Enough Alone is a Spare Room production. Middle age - it’s a phase of life often loaded with stereotypes, but what does it really mean to step into this season as a woman? In this episode, I sit down with the brilliant Jacinta Parsons for a raw and insightful conversation about ageing, feminism, self-awareness, and personal growth. We explore: • How feminism shapes the way we view ageing as women. • The impact of the male gaze and objectification on our self-perception. • The different archetypes of women and how they evolve with age. • The power of self-reflection and awareness in embracing midlife. • Why ageing isn’t just about loss—but about wisdom, strength, and transformation. Whether you’re in the thick of middle age or just thinking ahead, this conversation will challenge the narratives we’ve been sold and inspire you to redefine ageing on your own terms. The book is set in a not-too distant future Australia, where the eastern states have become the world's newest autocracy – a place where pop music is propaganda, science is the enemy, nationalism trumps all, and moral indecency is punishable by indefinite detention. Big Time is an anti-fascist ode to the power of pop music and a satire about art in the face of entropy, all wrapped up in an unforgettable road trip. Jordan Prosser was joined in conversation by Jacinta Parsons, broadcaster and author of Unseen and A Question of Age. Angry, much? Yep, we get it. Today we're talking to Jacinta Parsons about rage. The ABC radio presenter and author has written a sharp and clever book called A Question of Age. It's not an angry book, but she writes brilliantly about one of the most common - yet surprising - things about midlife: The fury. In this conversation, we talk about why anger might be a very rational response to many things about… life. Like many women, she lives with a chronic illness, is a parent, and has a big job, but now Jacinta's done pretending that everything is fine, and has made some big changes – to relationships, to work, and to how she handles her health -  to live a better midlife. We talk about all that, and why it's so complicated, dealing with the transition from “young” to “old”. So put down the mask, relax that forced smile, and join Holly Wainwright with Jacinta Parsons, for a peaceful chat about rage. When radio presenter Jacinta Parsons was in her early twenties, she began to feel unwell. The symptoms were insidious at first, and easy to dismiss. When she was eventually diagnosed with Crohn's disease, a severe and chronic inflammatory bowel condition, Jacinta was so unwell that she required multiple hospital stays, invasive procedures, and ultimately, an ileostomy bag.  Incredibly it was during this period, when she felt her body was failing her, that Jacinta discovered, with joy, that she was pregnant. Jacinta shares with us her journey to motherhood through her high risk pregnancy and birth.  She describes how her experience of living with chronic illness led her to tiptoe through her pregnancies, feeling like she had won a prize that could be taken away at any moment. With trademark empathy and insight, Jacinta shares how the hidden world of chronic illness can impact on all aspects of birth and parenting, from the physical challenges of parenting with an ileostomy bag, to the parenting guilt that is compounded for those living with an invisible illness in an ableist world.

Nearly half of Australians live with a chronic illness, but many of these conditions are invisible and endured in secrecy. Triple J presenter and How to Endo author Bridget Hustwaite teams up with ABC Radio presenter and Unseen author Jacinta Parsons to speak with Jamila Rizvi about living with hidden illness. They reflect on the challenging path to diagnosis—Hustwaite with endometriosis, and Parsons with Crohn’s disease—how the medical system ignores women, and the complex dynamic between those living with illness, their bodies, and society at large.Recorded for MWF in 2021.Support MWF: https://mwf.com.au/donate/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Australian authors Kylie Maslen, Fiona Murphy and Jacinta Parsons discuss their memoirs of living with invisible disabilities or chronic conditions and navigating the healthcare system. Kylie's wry and incisive Show Me Where it Hurts: Living with Invisible Illness details life with chronic pain and mental illness, and was named a stand-out book of 2020 by Guardian Australia. Fiona's The Shape of Sound chronicles how she overcame shame and secrecy to claim her Deaf identity, drawing praise from Helen Garner, who said, “I devoured this in a day, fascinated, enlightened, moved”. Jacinta's Unseen trains a microscope on the unique challenges of living with an invisible condition and was dubbed “a generous, brave, moving and deeply insightful work that will change lives for the better” by Clare Bowditch. The three speak with writer, producer, podcaster and illustrator Chloe Sargeant, co-host of the podcast Chronically Fully Sick.  Please note that towards the end of this podcast episode, there is a discussion around euthanasia.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
