Join me as I chat with producer, rapper and singer Jared Evan, as we discuss his creativity and his classic album Indigo.
Ché is UNSIGNED HYPE! In this interview, New York's rising artist Ché opens up about his independent music career and talks about: + How he transformed his love for writing and literature into powerful lyrics, eventually stepping in the booth to record his first tracks + his relationship with the producer, rapper, and singer Jared Evan, and how this collaboration helped him discover his dynamic, versatile sound + his experience with the "dark side of the music industry", leading to a year-long battle with writer's block, but coming out of it a stronger, more resilient artist ...and so much more!

Jared Evan (IG: @Jaredevan) is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and rapper originally from Great Neck, New York. He was signed to Zone 4 (Polow Da Don's label)under Interscope Records. The song "Frozen", which Evan wrote and produced, appeared on the LeBron James documentary soundtrack entitled Music Inspired by More than a Game. Jared also had a song featured prominently on HBO's hit show Entourage. In 2013, his album Boom Bap & Blues with Statik Selektah peaked at No. 8 on the iTunes Soul charts independently. He has been thriving as an independent artist since he left the major record label system and has a newly release project called "Dark Days" about his time in the traditional music industry. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS // + Nearly Getting Signed By Diddy + How/Why labels get excited about a new artist but just monitor it and don't make a move + Getting signed off of a song he made off his laptop + Meeting all of his musical idols during his come up and signing to Interscope + Jimmy Iovine wanting Jared to re-shoot his music video with the newly created Beats By Dre headphones + A new song he wrote, that he wasn't feeling, caught like wild fire within the building, and even though Jared wasn't feeling it, he went with it, Interscope pushed the song and it did not succeed commercially. + Getting to record with Dr. Dre for his highly anticipated / unreleased Detox album + A/B ing life as an independent artist vs. major label artist
After the last conversation with Jared Evan and I had a lot of thoughts we still wanted to unpack, so we sat down to do our first ".5". I'm not sure if this is a format that's going to stick or not, but we'll see. The obvious flaw with doing this sort of thing is that in discussing a guest's ideas (or trying to rebut their ideas) they don't have a chance to respond or correct us if we're missing something important. The cost is dwarfed by the benefit, though, I think, because it seems to be the case that almost every time we bring in a guest with a time limit, we end up scraping the surface of some really interesting ideas but end up running out of time before we can give those ideas their due. Rather than risk leaving untapped gold, I think taking a little extra time to chat after an especially good conversation is worth it even if our guests miss out on the fun. On the other hand, Jared, if you want to come back and push back on this point, I'd be more than happy to sit down for another conversation. Jared Evan, singer/songwriter/great human just dropped a record and it's pure fire. He's an old friend of mine in the entertainment industry but this is the first time we caught up in a long time. We had a blast talking about his creative process and studio experiences with Pharrell and Dre. Thanks for listening. ilu. (This conversation was recorded around the release this past November.) Btw. My favorite track on his new album is "Big Brother". If you have siblings you imitated when you' were growing up, you'll find this one enjoyable. This is the latest, BRAND NEW and extended episode of the syndicated FuseBox Radio Broadcast with DJ Fusion & Ausar Ra Black Hawk for the weeks of June 3 & 10, 2015 with some new and classic music from the international Black Diaspora, news and commentary. This week's radio show breakdown (by minutes/hours): 0:00 - 1:46:30 Introduction & Extended Commentary 1:46:30 - 2:53:25 DJ Fusion Mix 2:53:25 - 3:53:14 Black Hawk Mix The super extra long commentary this week (due to being back from Memorial Day vacation + being loop due to allergies last week) included talk about the recent events in McKinney, TX once again showing that there is no "post-racial America" (especially for Black folks) and the extreme need for systemic change in law enforcement and the U.S. population at large (along with some notes various incidents of wrongful imprisonment for decades of some Black men including one of the members of the "Angola 3", Kalief Browder [and his tragic passing], etc. + our annoyance at folks in denial about race and class issues in the U.S., especially from fellow People of Color during each of these news cycles), the passing of underground Hip-Hop legend Pumpkinhead, the insane hypocrisy on multiple levels with some of the TV "reality show" stars/"Christian" Duggars' family dirt coming out, tennis player Serena Williams winning her 20th Grand Slam, mini-movie reviews & ramblings about "Mad Max: Fury Road", "The Avengers 2" an assortment of 1980s action and horror movies and some other random things here and there. There is a brand new Black Agenda Report news mini-segment on this week's episode.
