Hello all and welcome to Episode 69 of the Reet Big Wargames Podcast. My guest today is Arran Johnston, Arran works with the Scottish Battlefield Trust and the Battle of Prestonpans Museum increasing awareness of the History of conflicts in the Highlands, Lowlands and Isles. A specialist in the Jacobite Rising Arran has had a number of books published on that subject as well as Cromwells earlier campaigns in Scotland. On top of his day job he has also done some historical re-enactment, so as my grandma would say " He knows his eggs" Arran has a personal website covering his historical work here https://www.arranjohnston.co.uk/ The work he does with the Battle of Prestonpans Museum can be found here https://www.battleofprestonpans1745.org/ Recently Arran has begun to use Wargaming as a tool to tell the story of the Jacobite Rising and has chronicled the Campaigns in a series of "What If" videos on the museums YouTube Channel. The decisions made, by the Jacobites in the first run through and by the Government in the second have been made by members of the public which has been a really interesting experiment. You can tune into the campaign here www.youtube.com/@Prestonpans1745 I think all wargamers would love to be involved in such a well run campaign. My next guest will be Jared Fishman from the US Wargaming Podcast, 20 Sided Gamified Podcast. See you soon Regards Ken
Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005. Four years later, a young prosecutor in the Justice Department was drawn into examining a mysterious death after the storm. Henry Glover was found dead in a burned-out car two weeks after Katrina. And who he was last seen with became the center of controversy and reform. 538. This week we talk to Jared Fishman about prosecuting the case of a post-Katrina police cover-up in New Orleans. Jared, a "former federal prosecutor and founder of Justice Innovation Lab tells the story of his struggle to unravel the cover-up of a police shooting, and subsequent incineration of the shooting victim, in Hurricane Katrina–era New Orleans... Fire on the Levee tells the story of a young idealistic prosecutor determined to bring the truth to light. The case would lead to major reforms in the New Orleans Police Department and ultimately change our understanding of race, policing and justice in post-Katrina New Orleans and beyond" (HarperCollins). This week in Louisiana history. September 1, 1715. King Louis XIV died. This week in New Orleans history. This week in Louisiana. On September 9. 1967, the New Orleans Saints played their first game in New Orleans and had their first ever preseason win at Tulane Stadium, defeating the Atlanta Falcons, 27-14. This win earned the Saints a 5-1 preseason record -- the best ever for a new expansion team. It also began the rivalry between the two teams. Press accounts from that game, including the Rome (Ga.) News-Tribune and Los Angeles Times, referred to it as the "Dixie Championship." In recent years, the game has sometimes been referred to as the "Southern Showdown." Postcards from Louisiana. This week on Everyday Injustice, we are joined by former federal prosecutor Jared Fishman who is now the founder of Justice Innovation Lab. He tells the remarkable story of Henry Glover's murder in Hurricane Katrina–era New Orleans. Glover was killed by police officers following the hurricane, and his killing was thoroughly covered up. According to the book description, “In 2009, Jared Fishman was a young prosecutor working on low-level civil rights cases in the Justice Department when a file landed on his desk. “That folder contained two items: a story from The Nation magazine examining a mysterious death in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina, and an autopsy report for a man named Henry Glover, whose charred remains were found in a burned-out car two weeks after the storm. The autopsy report, bafflingly, listed no cause of death. But according to The Nation story, a gravely wounded Glover had last been seen in a car driven by a New Orleans police officer.” Fishman eventually flies to New Orleans to learn about what happened, and teams up with a rookie FBI agent, and together they started to track down anyone with information about what had happened to Glover on that day.

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. This weekly broadcast examines current events from across the globe to learn what's happening in all areas of people activity. We cultivate Counter-Racist Media Literacy by scrutinizing journalists' word choices and using logic to deconstruct what is reported as "news." We'll use these sessions to hone our use of terms as tools to reveal truth, neutralize Racists/White people. #ANTIBLACKNESS Nearly one year from the Buffalo TOPS' massacre which left 10 black people dead, a gunman opened fire in a Texas shopping mall killing 8 people. Reports indicate the gunman, Mauricio Garcia, posted online about his pending rampage weeks in advance and detailed his White Supremacist leanings and explicit dislike of black people. Many details have not been released about this slaughter. However, many of the Victims who've had photographs displayed in the media would be classified as non-white. We'll discuss the racial classification of the suspected gunman. We'll also review the manslaughter charges filed against Daniel Penny, a White Marine who choked Jordan Neely to death on a NYC subway. Gus will share a word on the Jared Fishman's recent visit and the nature of deceptive White people. #DeepInTheHeartOfTexas #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#
The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Jared Fishman, Suspected Racist. After working in the Civil Rights Division of the US Department of Justice for fourteen years, where he handled some of the nation's most significant cases of police misconduct, hate crimes and human trafficking, Fishman founded the Justice Innovation Lab, an organization that uses a data-informed approach to build a more effective and fair justice system. We'll discuss his newly published book, Fire on the Levee: The Murder of Henry Glover and the Search for Justice after Hurricane Katrina. Glover, a black male NOLA native, was shot in the back by a White police officer (David Warren). Other officials then burned a vehicle with Glover's body in the rear. Suspicousy, Glover's skull disappeared. Many aspect of Fishman's book reveal truth about the System of White Supremacy. However, the portion of the book that describes the pornographic stash of high resolution, "unofficial" photographs of Henry Glover's body and likens them to lynching postcards of the early 20th century is especially revealing. Gus T. asked if Fishman was aware of the recent $28.8 million judgement against the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department for callously trading pictures of Kobe Bryant's charred remains. #DelectableNegro #TheCOWS14Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

“FIRE ON THE LEVEE: The Murder of Henry Glover and the Search for Justice after Hurricane Katrina” is a new book by Jared Fishman, former federal prosecutor and executive director of the Justice Innovation Lab. Co-written with Joseph Hooper, this book tells the behind-the-scenes story of Fishman's battle to unravel the cover-up of the murder of a Black man by a notoriously corrupt police department in post-Katrina New Orleans. Jared Fishman tells us more about this new book, and what it says about police accountability and creating more equitable justice systems. Nationally, activists have called for stronger protections for cemeteries that hold the remains of those who were enslaved. In Louisiana, the same groups opposing new industrial development along the Mississippi River say companies looking to build plants should be required to do more thorough surveying of their proposed sites to ensure burial sites for the formerly enslaved will not be disturbed. The Coastal Desk's Halle Parker joins us today for more. But first, after a string of deadly tornadoes cut through Mississippi, residents in some rural towns said they didn't get enough advanced warning. For the Gulf States Newsroom, Danny McArthur explores how emergency warning systems are supposed to work and the gaps that exist in our region.
